Midweek Open Thread

Ready for tomorrow? There are calls to “decolonize” Thanksgiving, and to see that day as “a day of mourning.” These folks seem to forget the story where the settlers invited the Native Americans to their Thanksgiving dinner. After the settlers lost people the previous year, the Native Americans taught them how to deal with North American winters, how to effectively fish, and how to effectively grow crops. The settlers subsequently invited the Native Americans to what is considered the first Thanksgiving meal. Enjoy your midweek!

  1. You want to think (HA! As if!) of Thanksgiving as a “colonizing” holiday?
Well, then, you can UNcolonize yourself from my dinner table. No Thanksgiving for you at my house.

      1. Can’t be one of the hallowed few who can post articles on TAH, ’cause they can see when it is scheduled to drop.

        I think that is it.

    1. I believe i got a HOT 1st once. I will say, everyone played nice together, I didn’t get any calls to bail anybody out, and nobody became the subject of a Monday morning safety briefing. All in all, a very successful stint.

  2. Note the wine glasses are half polished off but no one has
sliced the bird yet. And those rolls….pass the butter please.

  3. GB Clan working up to a good Thanksgiving Day tomorrow.
Middle brother’s 70th b-day is tomorrow as well. Navy Brother and AB Brother will be joining us at AB Son’s house for the celebrations.

Favorite Son-in-Law is currently working his cajun magic on the turkeys and will be adding a pot of gumbo. The Ladies of the Clan fixin’ all the other multitudinous sides and desserts.

Had to rent a handicap van to get Middle Brother there, but had to rent it for the weekend so, for the FIRST (h/t BlueCord Dad) time in years he will get to attend church in person Sunday.

I pray your Thanksgiving is blessed, your plates full, and your naps restful.

        1. Apparently, they also believe in close inbreeding, from original stock of donkeys and swine.

    1. The Seditious 6 Ring Leader Mark Kelly is posting This is horrific. I’m thinking of the families of these two National Guard members who lost their lives while serving the day before Thanksgiving. Thank you to the first responders who’ve brought a suspect into custody.” This bald fuck (sorry to any of follicle challenged posters) is playing the sympathy card in public while him and his cohorts practically orchestrated these Guardsmen’s executions. Fuck you Kelly! Stay far away from these grieving families. You’ve been calling them the Gestapo for months, but now you’re trying to score political points on the corpses of patriots. I can’t say FUCK YOU enough! As of 1946 EST his post on X has 13K comments. 99% are fucks you, blood on your hands, and this your fault.

PS: Shooter is reported to be an Afghan national that entered illegally during The Auto-Pen Administration.

  4. Half-day today. All told, it’s not too bad. Sure, I’m only getting paid for four hours at my base hourly rate, but all I had today was a DOT physical, and this year I managed to get a two-year certification (I was on BP meds last year and had to get an annual cert).

Six years ago, the CPT I worked alongside was calling Thanksgiving “Indigenous People’s Day”. It’s a generational thing, for better or worse, and it’s not hard to imagine that in a few more decades Thanksgiving celebrations will be all but gone.

I’ve waxed and waned on Thanksgiving myself over the years, but have had some interesting ones, to be sure. In 2013, only a couple of months back from Afghanistan, my siblings and I cooked dinner in a motel room as our dad was in the hospital. It’s amazing what you can do with a toaster oven and hot plate. The following year, I lived in Happy Acres trailer park in Hinesville, GA, having never gotten fuel to run the stove or heat. I used my Big Easy oilless turkey fryer that year, smoke a ham on the charcoal grill, and used the gas grill to make casseroles and such. An entire Thanksgiving dinner cooked outside for my kids and me. In 2021, my last Thanksgiving in uniform, I had my final big gathering, running two fryer setups and frying at least six turkeys total. I cooked two for the meal and invited guests to bring their own for me to fry and send home with them. I think it was 2016 or so, when I was on the Trail, that I simply got a few turkey TV dinners and my dog and I enjoyed them.

I volunteered to work tomorrow. It’s my youngest’s birthday, so we’re postponing traditional Thanksgiving dinner to the weekend. It should be a short day for me as the banks and many businesses are closed. But given the lack of work ethic some of my coworkers have, I won’t be surprised if we have a lot of rescheduled ATM replenishments they just “couldn’t” get to today, knowing they’ll be off tomorrow.

    1. God bless you and keep you safe (I’d add “and sound’, but….since you post on this site, we have our doubts about that).
Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day, and remember to thank The Supreme Creator who gave you everything, good (to bring you joy and happiness) and bad (to test and strengthen you).

    2. Hinesville! Haven’t been there in decades….

“The Hitchin Post” was a noteworthy dive.

  5. It wasn’t enough to accept the “Happy Thanksgiving” sentiments I received from the women I have talked with this week. I had to go one step too far. I told them I checked the holiday rotation and it’s my turn to prepare the feast. All of them said something to the effect of, “This should be interesting!” It is indeed, said I. I have a wonderful recipe for take out pizza. If you don’t hear from me for while, know that at least one of the women has caught me.

      1. 2 Killed in Action in DC because the Leftists have just declared war. Rest in Peace.

Dems got what THEY WANTED…VIOLENCE!!! Don’t let anyone lie to you and say that ‘s not what they wanted. They will quickly pivot and call it “right wing” violence in 3, 2, 1…
Dems have been spewing daily violent screeds and committing more and more brazen attacks. It was only a matter of time.

      2. May God comfort their loved ones and swiftly bring curses upon those who attacked them, both instigator and perpetrator

        1. Not just them, upon the whole crowd of stirred-up useful idiots a well as their herders and handlers all the way to the top echelon of those planning and funding the whole damned left-wing commie insurrection.
