Hegseth says US struck 3 alleged drug-running boats Monday, killing 14

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the U.S. military carried out three strikes Monday in the waters of the Eastern Pacific against boats suspected of carrying drugs, killing 14 and leaving one survivor.The announcement, made on social media Tuesday, marks a continued escalation in the pace of the strikes, which began in early September spaced weeks apart. This was the first time multiple strikes were announced in a single day.

Hegseth posted footage of the strikes to social media in which two boats can be seen moving at speed through the water. One is visibly laden with a large amount of parcels or bundles. Both then suddenly explode and are seen aflame.

The smugglers have to stay close to shore. Their boats aren’t made for long sea voyages. Makes ’em easier to find.
I’m not a Navy guy, but I understand the waters of the Caribbean & Gulf are much calmer than those of the Pacific as a rule.
Of course, Rand Paul is clutching his pearls, mumbling something about “due process”.
As long as they haven’t set foot on US soil I guess they got all the process they need. There was a process for loading the boat. I’m thinking they may hire legal counsel from among the top schools of fish.
Interesting that rhinos and the media keep saying that they are fisherman and how does the Mil. know they are transporting drugs on those boats, so why doesn’t the Navy recover floating packages afloat and show them to the public like the Coasties do on a drug haul.????????
To my way of thinking due process must be guaranteed only to those who are breaking the law who are actually on our soil.
The exceptions listed in the 5th Amendment include “…in time of War or PULIC DANGER.” [Emphases mine].
Importing dangerous drugs illegally to the United States strikes me as “Public Danger”.
Rand Paul wanted to issue Letters of Marque and Reprisal as is allowed in the Constitution.
General Dynamics and HII Ingalls were “on board” with that. Just think? Elon Musk or Richard Uihlein could buy a few lightly used “like new” Littoral Combat Ships and attack helos and then “get Colonial” with the cartels. They would pose no threat to a real navy but could sink drug boats all day long.

Much as I have no problems with drug runners getting smoked, and as much as I have absolute confidence these strikes are backed by appropriate intel/target decks I wish they, the DoW, would come out and lay out some of the behind the scenes details. Not that I doubt, but I’d love something to shut these Lib whiners up. Think the modern equivalent of Schwartzkopf or someone laying down the details. “Here’s how drug trafficking works. Here’s Pedro leaving his house. Here’s Pedro loading the boat with THESE drugs. Here’s their communications. Here’s the route drug smugglers normally take. Here’s Pedro and crew following that same route, and watch as they exhibit these seven other indicators of a drug smuggler. Now, here’s Pedro getting smoked. And here are the drugs we recovered from the water.”
Also, I’d prefer to see Pedro’s boss’s boss getting smoked.
