Driver in road rage shooting incident alleges self-defense, HPD says

HOUSTON (KTRK) — A driver beating on the car in front of him for driving too slow was shot in an act of alleged self-defense in north Houston, HPD says.

The Houston Police Department said it responded to a road rage incident around midnight on Saturday at the N. Main Street entrance ramp of I-45. When they arrived at the scene, HPD says they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound.

“The driver got upset that the vehicle in front of him wasn’t moving fast enough and he got out of his vehicle and started beating on his car,” Lt. Khan with the HPD said. The driver of the vehicle in front warned him that he had a gun and ended up shooting and striking him once, Lt. Khan added.

HPD says responding officers rendered aid to the victim before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is said to be stable.

Houston police confirm the shooter stayed at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. The shooter told the officers he was acting in self-defense and has not been charged, HPD says.

    1. ‘Stable’, relative to what?

      A Shaolin monk? Probably no.

A University of California, Berkeley attendee?
      Without a doubt.

        1. But nitroglycerine is more fun to play with…so I’m told. Not that I’d ever do anything dumb with explosives or anything…..

          um…what was the question?

  1. If the road rage driver thought he was going too slow, and would arrive at his destination late, well, look at where you are now. How late will you be when you’re released from the hospital, then jail?
I sense that intoxicants played a role in this poor decision making process.

  2. “midnight on Saturday at the N. Main Street entrance ramp of I-45”

I am very familiar with that grid square. When I worked private security in Houston that was just outside the wire for me.
A good place not to be at midnight any day of the week, but Saturday is a prime-time “nope!”
While intoxicants are quite possible, for that AO they are not required for this behavior.

  3. I’m not sure about Texas law, but that’s a bad shoot in Indiana. Lethal force can be used to prevent unwanted entry into your car, but not to prevent damage.

I hope the shooter gets a good lawyer.
