The district attorney in Douglas County provided an update Tuesday afternoon on the case of a 21-year-old man who was found shot dead in a car in January, with the family alleging someone confessed to the shooting.

Malachi Mitchell was discovered in the car during a traffic stop. Authorities said the driver of the vehicle — believed to be the person who shot Mitchell— was taken in for questioning and later released.

On Tuesday, District Attorney Dalia Racine said the driver acted in self-defense and will not face any charges.

Mitchell’s mother, Kenya Mitchell, has previously spoken out on several occasions as the circumstances of Mitchell’s death have remained murky.

  1. It appears that the driver demonstrated the proper performance of the pistol to Mr. Mitchell. I’d say that so far according to the info, Mr. Mitchell chose……. poorly.

  2. In addition to the Gerber MkII, I’d like to add the KaBar to my tool kit.
But were I to be confined to just one of the two, the Gerber would be my pick.

      1. Excellent choice. My Gerber was stolen; so I took the eminently useful Camillus Army pocket knife to the Viet of the Nam.
