Jefferson was a Democrat in a round about way. As a slave owning hypocrite he founded what eventually became the Democratic Party, although it went through a number of name changes on the way. He is also on Mt Rushmore. There was talk of removing him and Washington or even all of them for various reasons but they are a part of our history.
I hope Rushmore has room for The Don
