Armed man in bank shot dead by police. They say he wasn’t a robber.

Jermont Terry
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — A man stormed into a bank branch in this Chicago suburb, started shooting and took hostages Tuesday afternoon, only to be shot dead by police, CBS Chicago reports.

But they say he wasn’t robbing the bank.

The drama unfolded at the Fifth Third Bank, beginning at 3:40 p.m.

Bank employees were ordered to call 911 by the armed man, authorities said. Dispatch audio also indicated he requested a chair be placed front of the door.

Romeoville police came to the scene after getting the call.

“It was chaos out here today,” said Lisa Coleman, who lives nearby.

The Will County Sheriff’s office SWAT team, which also responded, kept Coleman and neighbors away.

“I came out and I saw the two SWATs standing over here with a rifle on them. It was very scary, because it’s too close to home,” Coleman said. “This is happening way too close.”

The gunman never asked for money, authorities said. He barked orders at gunpoint and fired off several rounds but never shot anyone.

Suicide by cop.

Cops: Alert resident stops crook in his tracks

Larry Hobbs, The Brunswick News, Ga.
An alleged one-man crime spree came to a screeching halt before dawn Saturday, interrupted by an alert Arco resident who called police after spotting him fiddling with her vehicle’s door handles, according to Glynn County Police.

Responding police established a perimeter around Poplar and Cahoon streets, after which county police dog Roxy flushed the alleged suspect out of hiding in a thick residential hedge, according to the police report.

Police arrested Roger Elliot Singleton III and charged him with four counts each of entering a vehicle to commit a felony and possession of tools to commit such a crime.

Additionally, Singleton was wanted by county police on warrants for battery and criminal trespass, as well as a third warrant from the county sheriff’s office for failure to appear in court.

  1. Too bad, that your life is so sad that you can’t even kill yourself, you feel the need to “hire” your suicide out to the police.

    1. “Suicide by cop” is exactly what I thought also on reading the article concerning the incident in IL.

      1. I only give you a downvote due to that being A Bad Dad Joke. Bad Dad! Bad Joke!

    2. They may not have had the opportunity to us a tranq if he was behind glass, but sure wish they could have.
      He needed help.

  2. Reading about the bank nutjob, my FIRST (ht2 Hack Stone) thought was Pappy, The Stranger, had gone to the bank to get his Third Fifth of the week out of the safety deposit box. Then my dyslexia vision cleared up. Suicide by cop? Mission accomplished!

After a glorious rendition of the designs from HMS JMB (HBHN) yesterday, I guess it’s only fair that we be subjected to a Plasticized Abomination today. Oh well, equal rights and all of that. Least it’s not a fugly gunz.
