The death of a Columbia man who was shot by a sheriff’s deputy Saturday night is under investigation, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Irvin D. Moorer-Charley, 34, was killed in a shooting involving officers, according to Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford.

Moorer-Charley was fighting with deputies when he was shot and killed, the sheriff’s department said.

At about 6 p.m., deputies responded to Heyward Brockington Road to a report of domestic violence involving a weapon, according to the sheriff’s department. That’s in Columbia, in the area between Monticello and Fairfield roads.

Moorer-Charley was armed with a wooden stake when he was killed, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said at a news conference.

County deputy fatally shoots suspect during wanted person search

A Cascade County Deputy fatally shot a suspect Saturday afternoon during a wanted person search, according to a press release from the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office. CCSO says there is no current danger to the public.

The deputy will be placed on administrative leave and the Great Falls Police Department is conducting the investigation into the shooting.

The CCSO release details the following narrative.

Just after 1 p.m. deputies found the suspect, in what appeared to be a disabled car, on the 1400 block of 7th Ave South. The suspect had active warrants and was a person of interest in a fraud investigation. The release did not specify the details of the warrants.

While a deputy was speaking with the suspect, the suspect “pulled a gun on the deputy,” after which the deputy shot the suspect.

A wooden stake? Meth is a real MF’er. Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

    1. It’s rumored that several heads of garlic were found on Mr.
      Moorer-Charley’s person.

  1. I guess when Columbia burns this time, it can’t be blamed on ‘Cump Sherman. Mr. Moorer-Charley mighta shoulda called Buffy if he wanted to slay a vampire.

Best way to not get killed by the popo is (a) don’t do stoopid stuff (b) if you do stoopid stuff, go along with what they tell you do to.

Sounds like Seneca “the younger” had some good home training from Seneca “the older”. The grubermint musta been trying to pass some common sense sword control laws in his time.

    1. Once you have heard that kack-kack sound from the business end of one on full-auto, you will never forget it.
