Pleasanton police fatally shoot man suspected of domestic violence

By Andres Picon
Pleasanton police fatally shot a domestic violence suspect Thursday afternoon after an hours-long standoff, officials said.

Officers responded to an apartment building at 4899 Willow Road around 11:50 a.m. after police received a call from a victim of domestic violence, Pleasanton police Lt. Erik Silacci told reporters during a press conference.

The suspect was inside the apartment and refused to exit until around 3:39 p.m. The suspect walked out of the apartment holding a knife and was fatally shot, police said. Between the original call and the shooting, officers were trying to make contact with the suspect, Silacci said.

Man shoots would-be robber in North Memphis, family says

by: Melissa Moon
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Neighbors say an attempted robbery led to a shootout that sent two people to the hospital in a North Memphis neighborhood.

Memphis police are saying very little about the double shooting Wednesday afternoon at the corner of Stovall Avenue and Hyde Park Street.

“The guy got in the car and pulled the gun on him, and he jumped out of the car,” said the woman who did not want to be identified. “He was running from them. He was shooting at him. That’s how all this got shot up.”

“Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy … censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it’s subjects, ‘This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,’ the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.” –Robert A. Heinlein, “Revolt in 2100” (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing)

I wonder,,, in many of these cases, what would happen if the cops could just fire some sort of grenade that when it goes off, would release a cloud of the worst smelling, most gag inducing, most puke producing, gas imaginable. Like a supersized, super strong, Fart Spray.

      1. Methyl Mercaptan is what’s added to Natural gas while Butyl Mercaptan is added to Propane.

    1. But can you imagine what the house/apartment would smell like afterwards? And would the smell ever dissipate enough to be able to live in the place again?

  2. Knife 2 gunfight + nutjob = DRT.

You’d a thunk, what with Bedford Forrest and his wife’s bodies being removed, along with his statue, from Memphis, that all of the problems would be solved. Maybe statues aren’t the problem after all.

Good job on getting me lost in that linky, First Class. You knew it’d do it, didn’t ya!

If the USA waits til 2100 to revolt, it will be way yonder too late. Headbutt the Hangman.

  3. Great quote from Heinlein. A lot of what he wrote along with George Orwell is very pertinent to today both here and n Canada.

  4. Was life more pleasant in Pleasanton after the domestic violence perp was rendered more pleasant DRT?
