Springing Snake

On a rainy day in the rainforest of Agumbe, India, a green vine snake reacts to what it perceives to be a threat. “They are very hard to spot because they blend into their habitat, usually bushy vegetation,” says Your Shot photographer Vinod Nicholas. “When they feel threatened they puff up giving them a green white checkered appearance.”

Technically you’re second because for some dumbass reason I posted “FIRST” twice.

      1. Wilted Willy

Congrats on your being first, you stopped me from getting a record 3 weeks in a row in the TAH book of firsts! Now I have to start beating my F5 key again for another 3 weeks! Enjoy your week of being First!!

        1. jonp

Re-reading – Mick is still 3rd, I’m still 4th, and still in need of a 5th of good Scotch.

  9. Country Singer

I just sent this to Jon, but I’ll post it here, too.

Fake Ranger Mike Sleeper is being challenged for his school board seat by a retired, prior-enlisted MI Major (that I just happen to work with). George is also a conservative Republican.

    1. Ex-PH2

      Way to go!

    2. A Proud Infidel®™

Heheheheheheheh… Hey, STILL NO DD214 or proof of service in a Ranger BN from Mike Sleeper!

    3. AnotherPat

Saw the same thing, Country Singer and shouted ” Halleluah!!!”

Hope George Bratcher wins since he is a Retired US Army Officer. Here is a short Bio on him:

      https://www.george4georgia.com

But then again, if Pam Tucker wins, that would wonderful as well.

Have this feeling Sleeper’s days in office are numbered. It been 9 months and he has yet to be able to provide any records, to include his DD214. Am speculating that he is trying to go before the Army Board of Corrections to “fix” his records, but if he does not have proof, then it’s Masalama Sadiki.

Besides, if he had proof, he SHOULD have no problems sharing it with the people he serves, since he is a public figure…..uh, wait a minute, I need to take that back (brings back memories of BHO and his Birth Certificate).

  10. Ex-PH2

They’re all still piqued over at the Bergdahl section, so I’m self-declaring in the Top Ten Tenancy, too.

  11. Commissioner Wretched

    Number 19 overall! Joy.

  12. Wilted Willy

Ex, you are always first in my book!

How did you know I have a beard? I swear that isn’t me in the background??

      2. Ex-PH2

        Hah! Prove it!!!

  13. A Proud Infidel®™

Top thirty and Honorary First once again.

  14. While y’all were beating your F5 keys, I was watching “Sully”. I don’t go to theaters, nor rent many movies, but I did pick this up at my local library. Excellent movie, showing both government and humans being, well, uh, government and humans.

  15. Sapper3307

Book deal for Bergdahl and Osama sex tape soon.

  16. Showing the ineptrocracy of the bureaucracy, the Florida Department of Corrections shows Stolen Valorist, Kyle C. Barwan not in the Polk County Jail, but in the Hillsborough County Jail, N. Orient Road, Tampa. The Hillsborough County Jail Inmate check says “Who?”, while the Polk County Jail shows him being in their jail, under the watchful eye of “68 Bullets” Sheriff Grady Judd. I will go with Polk County’s listing.
Location: CENTRAL COUNTY BLD 3 DORM M

    1. Wilted Willy

Hi Frankie, I hope the asshole formerly known as Kyle C. Barwan has plenty of friends at the Deli? I hope he stays there for life! Now, if we could only get my pos brother David “Doc” Shrum locked up in prison as well? I can only dream can’t I??

      1. AnotherPat

Hope you are feeling better, WW.

Speaking of your brother, has he ever been sandblasted by the TAH Wall of Shame?

Never give up on “Doc” getting his Karma. Look what happened to #42265 (sorry, sj, I forgot the his former #). And look at “Stretch”, AKA KCB.

One Trillion Tons and the size of Delaware?

      That just blows my mind..!

      1. Hack Stone

To be fair, Delaware is not that large of a state.

        1. AnotherPat

          Yes, you are right.

Am just imaging an iceberg the size of Deleware compared to other icebergs and the “wow” factor kicks in….?

Al Gore’s Global Warming…(sarc it to me)

          1. Hack Stone

Now, if they said it was an iceberg the size of Daniel Bernath’s hemorrhoids, that would be impressive.

    1. Reverend Pointy Head

Lars finally got busted for indecency?

  19. Reverend Pointy Head

    That’s a gorgeous specimen.
Dad warned me that the jungle held a ton of weird shit but something that’s elusive as a high-lighter is nightmare fuel considering its surroundings.
Here’s to the weekend, folks. Hat I’m gonna get greased and gassed.

    1. Reverend Pointy Head

*Hat = RGQ congrats on making first post.
How “Hat” came of it may be a combination of fat fingering and a shitty internet connection.

      Cheers to you, brother.

    2. Dennis – not chevy

There are more weird things in the jungle than all that’s holy can track. I remember when a rhinoceros beetle came into our camp for a visit. The LT told me to get rid of it; so I did. I borrowed a magazine from my buddy, scooped the critter up, and moved him down range where he could live happily ever after. The LT laughed and told me I didn’t have a hair on my backside. I told him the critter had pincers for feet and I don’t like to get critter bit. I noticed the LT did not charge after the critter to show me how it was supposed to be done.
Yes, I know rhinoceros beetles are harmless and I know people keep them as pets, it’s just getting critter bit gives me the all-overs.

      1. Ex-PH2

I always thought that the name for the deathwatch beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum) would make a great name for a villain of some kind, if shortened somewhat.
But then, when you look for the biological name of the rhinoceros beetle, it’s just as cool: Chalcosoma moellenkampi.

How about Chalco Moellenkamp and Xesto Rufovillosum get together and plot the destruction of – dare I say it? – the Sino-Russo-American Space Coalition? But only on Tuesdays, because they’re busy scamming people with robocalls and fake FBI mail the rest of the time.

The Air Force (of which I’m a veteran) will have to come up with a new medal for door gunners defending the ISS.

          1. Ex-PH2

            How about SPASGunners?

            1. Reverend Pointy Head

I believe it. Dad told me sober about his time in Vietnam about the rigors of Jungle living. That was pretty much all considering he was a Corpsman. When we’d drink together the time he had there was difficult enough to change subjects.
Then he had me and I became an Avionics geek in the Air Force but he still loves me. 😉

  21. The Other Whitey

Not sure if anyone has been following it, but there are more efforts underway to save USS Texas, the world’s only remaining dreadnought battleship, from the scrappers. Amongst other fundraisers, they are currently selling a limited run of commemorative Henry rifles. I’m calling tomorrow to order one. For those gamers out there, Russian game developer Wargaming.net (these particular colluding Russians are history nerds who have done similar fundraisers for museum ships in the US, UK, and Russia; they previously helped fund the restoration of the USS Arizona Memorial) is is also fundraising on their online game World of Warships, donating %100 of their premium content sales to help save the old gal. It is also possible to donate directly to the museum foundation. They’re a legit 501c nonprofit, so it’s tax-deductible. If anyone has any spare cash laying around, this is a worthy cause to help save a unique and irreplaceable piece of history.

    Should be an interesting weekend.

We lost power at Casa de Sparky Sunday night, but was back in under 24 hours. Sadly, a lot of people have gone a lot longer without power.

  23. Twist

I spent about 2 hours today plowing the snow with my 4-wheeler out of my driveway and made the mistake of making a negative comment about it being a pain in the ass. My wife replied “Honey, we live in f*cking Alaska, what do you expect?”. I love that woman.

    1. Sapper3307

Did the snow get rid of the mosquitos, or did they put on a winter coat?

      1. AnotherPat

That there was funny. The Alaska State Bird: Mosquitoes.

Funny how no ones believes that “they are this big” until they get stationed there…

Same with snow in Hawaii..until they train on the Big Island…

Tonight/Tomorrow a majority of America observes Daylight Saving Time, setting their clocks back one hour, which gives them an extra hour of sleep. Not only that, but it also means that Daniel Bernath and Kyle Barwan spend an extra hour getting some jailhouse loving.

    1. Ex-PH2

Ooops! I think I hit the ‘report’ button by mistake. My bad! Sorry.

  25. Ex-PH2

It’s the weekend, right? It’s recipe time again! So here’s your basic breakfast quiche, which is egg and bacon (or other stuff) pie.

    Ingredients

1 refrigerated pie crust, softened as directed on box
1 cup half-and-half or milk – whatever makes the eggs creamiest
    4 eggs, slightly beaten
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
8 slices bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled
1 cup shredded cheese, Swiss or Cheddar or whatever you like (4 oz)
    1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon chopped onion, if desired

Heat oven to 350°F. Place pie crust in 9-inch glass pie plate as directed on box for One-Crust Filled Pie.

In medium bowl, mix half-and-half, eggs, salt and pepper; set aside.

Layer bacon, cheeses and onion in crust-lined plate. Pour egg mixture over top.

Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes; cut into wedges.

You might want to use a piece of long pasta like cappelllini as a tester.

That’s your basic breakfast egg & bacon pie/quiche recipe. Where you go from here is your adventure.

The frittata is done this way:

Prepare the fillings first, and use a cast iron skillet to cook them. Put the skillet lid on the stove next to the burner to heat up. And use your imagination on the fillings. I like bacon, sausage, Spam, onions, potatoes, and some vegetables.

Beat 4 to 6 eggs and season them. Add shredded cheese if you like, then pour the beaten eggs over the cooked stuff in the skillet. Let that cook over the heat for a few minutes, then put the lid on the skillet, and turn off the burner. You can top the frittata with more shredded cheese if you like, before you cover the skillet.

Make some toast or biscuits or muffins or whatever, have tea and/or coffee and juice ready to go, fill your plate and enjoy your breakfast with other people.

    1. clamsgotlegs

Saw a video yesterday using sliced potatoes instead of a pie crust. They peeled and sliced the potatoes…lightly covered with olive oil, seasoned and baked. Then covered with egg/quiche mixture and rebaked. Can’t wait to try it!

    2. Ex-PH2

      That sounds quite good!

    3. Eden

I need to come up with a no-carb crust for that.

Where in the world did you find the nomenclature for the H&MF C-Rats?

      1. Claw

Right there on the can lid.

Of course, once you choke down the meal, (provided you had lots of Tabasco on hand) on the inside bottom of the can, it states ” CONTENTS OF THIS CAN NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.”

But don’t tell Sparks that. Sparks loves him some Ham & MFers./Smile

        1. AnotherPar
