Stewart Fenton; homeless phony on the street

Stewart Fenton

Someone sends us a link to the UK’s Telegraph which tells the story of Stewart Fenton, who claimed to be a homeless veteran of paratroops and Iraq who came back from the war to find his wife sleeping with Jody – so he ended up on the street.

He wore a maroon jumper commemorating the D-Day landings and held two cardboard signs claiming he had served in the 7th Parachute Regiment of the Royal Horse Artillery.

The first sign, written on cardboard with black marker pen, read: “25810961 – 7 PARA RHA. Ex-armed forces. Just need a little help! Council a waste of time. Thank you, God Bless.”

A second said: “Hi guys. Look, this is embarrassing sitting here but I have no family or support. Please don’t judge me. I’m a genuine nice guy. Thanks.”

Fenton, a father of 16-month-old twins, sat in a sleeping bag with a duffel bag next to him in the centre of Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

He was busted when one of the cops who saw him on the street was called to his house for a disturbance – hint; homeless people don’t have houses, it’s in the job description. Then they checked with the military and he’d never been in the service. The judge gave him a 16-week prison sentence and suspended it for two years and then hit him with some fines and court costs.

If you think he learned his lesson, nope;

Outside the court Fenton, who was with an unidentified woman, refused to apologise for his actions.

He said: “It was not a sign made by me. I was sat with someone else that was a genuine man of the armed forces.”

We’ll read about him again.

    It would have been intensely tragi-schadenfreudetastic if a passing Londonistani jihadi saw the phony sign and proceeded to lop his head off…

    38 years old. No job. On welfare or whatever they call in in the UK. Lying about military service to solicit money from people. A real stand-up guy. The funny thing is that the judge fined him. Any guesses as to how he will, acquire the money to pay the fine?

      Maybe he’ll borrow some kneepads from the guy whose sign he was holding. ..

        Nice scarf. If I had to guess, it was he that was sleeping with “Jody.”

    Hmmmm … not unlike Sherlock Holmes’ Adventure 6: “The Man With The Twisted Lip.”

    Partial Wiki synopsis:

    …Later in his life, he returned to the street to beg for several days in order to pay a large debt. Given a choice between his newspaper salary and his high beggar earnings, he eventually became a professional beggar. His takings were large enough that he was able to establish himself as a country gentleman, marry well, and begin a respectable family. His wife never knew what he did for a living,…

    Interesting. It seems it is easier in the UK to find out when a phony is a phony.
