Selfie kills

According to the Skagit County Herald, a man in Washington State killed himself while taking a “selfie” while holding his firearm.

The man and his girlfriend were at a residence in the 46000 block of Baker Loop Road taking photos of themselves with the gun when the incident occurred, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Patrol Chad Clark said.

According to The State, he carefully unloaded the gun each time he took a picture of himself. I guess he carefully pulled the trigger during the photo session. According to the article 27 people worldwide have died from selfie-related accidents. So be careful out there.

I’d submit that more accidents occur with unloaded guns carelessly. Instead of just unloading your gun, also don’t point the gun at your empty noggin, or any other useless appendage on your body, or any other person’s body. FFS.

Do you suppose that the family will have that last photograph with his brain mattered splattered blown up as a poster for the memorial service?

  2. Hack Stone

The only way to prevent tis would be o institute a mandatory thirty day waiting period before allowing people to take selfies.

  3. JacktheJarhead

What an idiot! I hope he did not breed. Dumbass.

    1. B Woodman

Amen! Gotta start throwing more bleach into the gene pool.

  4. 2/17 Air Cav

Authorities have not identified the genius. Well, he’ll be the guy whose obit appears in tomorrow’s Skagit County Herald saying he died suddenly.

    1. Hack Stone

But not unexpectedly. The obit may even mention that amazingly he was able to survive as long as he did.

I’m confused which one is dead;Beavis or Butthead?

    1. Hondo

My money’s on Beavis. Butthead was the smarter one of the pair.

Darwin had no comment on the article. But he was observed to smile and write a note to himself reading, “Another qualifier for the award – get name when available.” (smile)

  6. Fjardeson

Definitely a candidate for a 2016 Darwin Award. Egad, pointing a gun at yourself?

    1. Graybeard

      +1

    2. Ncat

Actually, seeing as more than one person has done this, we would have to have a special category and decide between the deceased candidates. The one who did himself in in the dumbest or funniest way would be the winner. Who knows, maybe there’s a dingus out there who actually racked a shotgun he knew to be loaded before taking the selfie.

      DARWIN AKHBAR!!!

  7. Peter the Bubblehead

I’d really like to know how the picture turned out.

  8. IDC SARC

I guess his GF is suddenly single, eh?

    1. B Woodman

If she’s “that bright” to allow deceased BF to point a firearm at himself, then I wouldn’t want her for my GF.

    2. I’d hit it !!!
Best time to take advantage of her is right after the funeral !!!
He did do her a huge favor you know…….

I used to live in that area (if I remember my geography right, he lived just outside of Concrete, WA) so I know the… flora and fauna pretty well. I hope you like fatass meth-mouths.

If only they’d aim at the right body part. Then the loss to the gene pool would be less tragic, but very definite.

    1. nbcguy54ACTUAL

Wrong Ex-PH2. Then they would want to be Ted Cruz’s Secretary of Tranny Affairs…

  12. David

Jonn, I’d argue with your comment about unloaded firearms… unless you club someone an unloaded firearm won’t hurt you. Now, the ones that some dumbass thought was unloaded and was too negligent to properly check – them things are lethal. Gotta watch out for them.

    1. billy.hill

You share the same logic with a guy at walmart who ended up on the floor when he decided to point an unloaded m4 at me. I disagreed with him violently on that fact when I tried to escape his muzzle as quickly as I could and he happened to be blocking the clearest path to safety.

FWIW I hadn’t played rugby in 10 years but I would have made my coach proud…

    2. That was my point.

      1. Hack Stone

The most dangerous thing in the world is an “unloaded” weapon. During the Robert Zimmerman trial, I cringed when the prosecutor causally handed the gun that Zimmerman used to the witness, with neither ensuring that it was unloaded.

    3. Hack Stone

Assuming that a weapon is unloaded without checking it first is just as stupid as assuming that an airplane has enough fuel to get you to your destination without verifying your fuel level. You would have to be some kind of idiot to do that.

      1. Usafvet509

        BAHAHAHAHA Bernath joke! Love it!

      2. Bill M

Where have I heard about something like that before?

    4. Peter the Bubblehead

First rule of gun safety: Treat every firearm like it’s loaded!

      1. Hack Stone

First rule of aviation: Treat every aircraft as if the fuel tank was empty.

  13. JohnE

I humbly submit a new rule pertaining to gun ownership. Prospective gun owners must demonstrate that they are significantly smarter than the firearm itself. Those who cannot will be issued a Super Soaker.

    1. IDC SARC

      and will likely soon thereafter….drown

      1. JohnE

That is a risk I for one, am willing to take.

cuts down on collateral damage and preserves them as organ donors.

One can at least hope their kidneys and such aren’t stupid.

  14. Jason

So either he forgot that there was one in the chamber, or he unloaded 5 bullets from a 6 shot revolver. Or he could have saved himself the trouble and just pointed the gun in a safe direction at all times. No need to unload.

  15. Aysel

wonder if this guy gets a Darwin Award or an Honorable Mention….he kinda deserves it…

  16. nbcguy54ACTUAL

    His name was Hee Shootie-Selfie.

    Musta been Chinese…

    1. L. Taylor

Doesn’t even sound Chinese. Two many syllables and some of those sounds do not even exist in Chinese or Cantonese.

If you are going to be a racist ass you might as well make it clear you have a clue what Chinese sounds like.

      Something he “He Shu He”.

That name would be plausible. Almost would work for a Korean name too.

      1. nbcguy54ACTUAL

Never claimed to be a good racist ass but I appreciate the help.

I’ll get it right some day…

Oh, just join your Chinese pals for one of their holidays when they WOK the dog! ??

At what point in one’s life does someone think it’s a good idea to point ANY firearm at ANYTHING they don’t intend to kill?

    1. Peter the Bubblehead

Because very few people participate in gun safety training like I did since I was very young. Always assume a firearm is loaded and never point at anything you don’t intend to kill were the first two lessons my father (an NRA certified safety instructor and former US Marine) taught me.

  18. clamsgotlegs

    Pics or it didn’t happen.

    Too soon?

  19. AW1Ed

    Darwin grins.

    Cleaning out the gene pool.

  21. Jarhead

The newspaper at the top reported the police listed the death as accidental. Isn’t it time for a new Selfie-loving fool find out the meaning of STUPIDENTAL. Any day now I expect to see where some GED flunky committed suicide by loading one round into a single shot Derringer and added to the suicide obituaries. Maybe a nice departing prize should be considered. Something like a ride in a hearse with square wheels while the deceased’s lady friend was visiting in the back of the hearse with Thunderstixx.

    1. Hack Stone

So, would a recently disbarred attorney/failed radio host/failed TSA agent/failed tour guide/incompetent pilot consider this a case of “self-murder”?

      1. Jarhead

Now Hack…..There IS a difference between self murder and Moron Termination. The former is Doing Himself A Favor. The latter is Doing The World A Favor. The former will be greatly missed by himself. The latter will make the earth a more safe and sound place to live, while nobody gives a shit.

      2. Silentium Est Aureum

        He got disbarred already?

Just checked. Sadly, not yet official.

First keg is on me when it does become official.

    2. 2/17 Air Cav

Hey, watch that “GED flunky” business. I have a GED. I also have two college degrees and a law degree. BUT, I was a high school dropout who acquired his GED through the US Army before those other items.

  22. L. Taylor

Loaded or not how the hell do you shoot yourself with your gun while taking a selfie? Was he putting it up to his head?

How could putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger be an accident?

    1. HMCS(FMF) ret.

Check the stories out Lars… dude was stupid enough to put the gun to his head.

      1. L. Taylor

        Yeah. Mind-blowing stupidity.

        Literally.

  23. HMC Ret

EVERY gun I have ever handled or seen, I treat as if it was loaded. NO exceptions.
