Phonies’ fear

The wife of William Joseph Trumpower, who we profiled when he stood on the stage with DICK Blumenthal to show support for the lying turd has been circulating an email of an article from “Veterans Today” , the hiding place of Gordon Duff.

The email from an article written by Jere Beery (pictured above in his phony finery), whose bio sets off warning bells, charges that our friends at POW Network are targeting PTSD Veterans.

There is currently a group of self-appointed “government agents” targeting veterans receiving disability compensation from the VA. Their objective is to locate and prosecute disabled veterans that are receiving VA disability compensation that they are not entitled to. Their main focus is on veterans with a PTSD rating. They claim that the VA healthcare system is being bilked dry by phony PTSD claims. However, they cannot provide data to support their outrageous accusations. They operate with the full support and cooperation of the VA Inspector General’s office and other major law enforcement agencies. According to Chuck and Mary Schantag of Skidmore, Missouri and owners of the POW Network, they have friends within the VA and DOD that will provide them with any personal information on a veteran they are investigating.

I wish that were true. There are hundreds of Gulf War I veterans who claim they were POWs and get treated as such by the VA, but there were only a handful of POWs from Desert Storm. If the DVA were cooperating with POW Network, they’d release the names of all of the people getting benefits from the DVA as POWs so Mary and Chuck could weed out the phonies and save DVA a ton of money. That’s not happening, though.

I’ve also had Mary and Chuck warn me about subjects they thought were suffering from PTSD – they go out of their way to protect veterans. You really have to read every word of this email to read that the author Jere Beery has an axe to grind since POW Network conducted an investigation into his background. He filed charges against the Schantags with the DVA OIG, which exhonerated POW Net of any wrong-doing. So then Beery takes aim at Larry Bailey. Beery claims that Captain Bailey is just out to deny veterans their benefits, when Bailey has made it clear that his targets are phonies.

That makes me think that Beery is a phony since I’ve only seen them work on real phonies. Beery writes;

It is unknown if the Schantags or anyone else in the group receives anything in return from the VA for the veterans they turn in.

Then why would you say it, numbnuts? The only people who should be worried about Captain Bailey and the Schantag’s investigations are people who have something to hide. I’m sure they’ve checked on me and I ain’t worried.

“They claim that the VA healthcare system is being bilked dry by phony PTSD claims. However, they cannot provide data to support their outrageous accusations.”

When you’re handing out free money, everybody wants some. Is that so hard to understand?

People fake service-connected disabilities because there’s a payoff involved. I can’t believe I have to throw in this disclaimer, but I will–just because some people are faking doesn’t mean all people are faking. That being said, it’s not that difficult to fake PTSD. All you have to do is look up the symptoms in a book and then go tell the VA shrink that you have all of them. Being the easiest service-connected disability to fake, lots of people do it. I’ve been encouraged to do it by a representative of the DAV who just wanted me to get the money I’m “entitled to”.

And this guy makes it sound farfetched to say that people would abuse a system that hands out free money. Yeah, no one would ever conceive of getting a check in the mail that they’re not entitled to! Never!

I’ve been encouraged to file for it as well, on more than one occasion, but I won’t. A check from the tax payer isn’t going to make things in my life any better, and my symptoms don’t keep me from working and living my life. I am familiar with people who are currently recieving compensation for PTSD, who in my humble opinion should not be, and am also familiar with a couple of cases where it was a hellish battle for someone to actually recieve those benifits when they truely deserved them.

The system is huge, lumbering, and less than perfect, I applaud any effort to keep it clean. And so should this idiot.

There ought to be more people doing what the Schantags do.

Ref #2, I just recently tore up my right knee and like you, the first thing anyone said was “You ought to try and get the VA to up your disability.”

It happens all the time in my world, but apparently it doesn’t happen in this guys world.

From what I’ve seen in my family, I can say that the VA doesn’t throw money at you. The process that is gone through for a disability rating is long (our administrative process took 2 years, start to finish)and you have very specific steps to take and in a certain order, or you risk starting all over again from the beginning. And that’s only the paperwork; the medical tests and procedures they use to “establish” a disability are now comprised of some of the most advanced medicine available (CT, MRI, PET, and all medical specialties, Neurology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, etc.)
Also, the VA retains the right to re-investigate a disability rating at any time, and for any level of disability. Now the reality is, they only very seldom reduce a disability rating, but they are able to do it, if necessary.
Our claim didn’t involve mental health issues, so I can’t address that directly.

My disability is of the physical nature. It is harder to “fake” those, but PTSD is very hard to prove or disprove. POW status would be very easy to prove if the VA would look into the claims of POW status closer.

I was at the VA just yesterday for my poking and prodding appointments. I don’t feel worthy to be there and think that there are those much more deserving that me. I am humbled to be in the company of those fine people. I say that, because I don’t understand how some people would game the system like they do in order to get a higher percentage. Claiming POW status? That just pisses me off. I have a friend that received 100% and deserves every cent for what he went through then and goes through now. He didn’t claim anything extra, his was all documented by the military in his medical records, same as mine, however, as I said, I didn’t/don’t feel worthy and waited over 20 years to file my claim and it took the prodding of 2 retired CSMs and a retired General to get me to do it.

  7. Mustache like that, in a beret, HAS to be fakery involved.

    It just don’t fit….

    #6 OldTrooper:
…and it’s usually the “old troopers” who wait longer than they should to receive what they truly did earn…
    Thank you for your service.

  9. Old Trooper: PTSD is relatively new diagnoses as listed in the DSM. 1980, if memory serves?

Then every so often the Headshrinkers and bureaucrats get together and modify the DSM.

I helped a number of Nam vets get through the system during the 80’s, and it was no picnic.

Point is… I wonder if things have changed mostly because of various headshrinkers, bean counters, and bureaucrats – rather than simply more people gaming the system?

  10. Old Trooper

Yeah, ponsdorf, it was around 1980. Before that time it was called “shell shock”. You could be right about how they diagnose it thes days, changing their standard for what constitutes PTSD. What gets under my skin and what I was referring to in my “gaming the system” comment was Jonn’s comment on POW status. Then, to have morons like Matthis yelping that he has it really pisses me off.

Anybody that knows Larry Bailey knows how much he supports our troops and the allegation that he is “out to deny veterans their benefits” is laughable. I let Larry know about this fool again and he sent that jackass an email. That douche reminds me of Kokesh. Kokesh threatened a friend of mine and wrote that he couldnt wait to meet him in person and when my friend saw him in the subway in DC he walked right up to Kokesh and pronounced himself ready to rumble and Kokesh, being the little turd that he is, immediately backed down.

  13. Those that say Jere Beery is not the real McCoy need to do their homework. Jere is one of the bravest sailors I served with in the River Patrol Force in Vietnan. He was stationed with River Section 511, at Binh Thuy on the Bassac River in the Mekong Delta.

For those that are not aware, the River Patrol suffered the highest casualty rate of any organization during the Vietnam War. Our casualty rate was a little over 200%. This included killed and wounded.

Not to take anything away from the Marines, but their casualty rate was 26% for the war. The Marines are to be respected for their outstanding heroism as well as the Army. Both served herocially. Ours was eight times higher than the Marine Corps per capita.

We had one person wounded seven times before he was forced out of country against his will. Why was this the case? It is because we were all volunteers and have never met a man that served that regrets it.

For those that talk shit about Jere need to go fuck yourself. I served with Jere, share the same sharpnel in both my arms, both legs and my face that he has in his body from one end of his body to the other all these years. For those of you that talk negative about this true American hero need to evaluate your basic self. Who are you? What kind of person would question Jere’s heroism?

  14. WOW Dick! Thanks for the kind words of support. I had know idea I was so popular. Jere Beery

  15. Notice that the author of the orginial post didn’t have enough guts to sign his hatch job.

  16. Jacobite

Look a little harder there Jere, his name is right there at the end of the post under the advertisement, he’s the blog owner. And why should he require ‘guts’ friend? Is that an implied threat? Is he supposed to believe he has something to fear for posting what he did?

  17. There is the truth, and then there are liars. The truth is the Shantags are not licensed to do what they do. They are not federal agents, they are trouble makers. We have several government agencies quite capable of tracking down phonies. For every phony Chuck and Mary turn in, there is a dozen veterans harassed by their questionable tactics. As for me, I will put my military combat record up against any of you clowns. You guys have way too much time on your hands. I suggest you do a little research before you take me on. JERE BEERY

  18. JERE BEERY, USN(Ret.)

Go find someone else to slander and gidhonor. This is exactly why I despise the POW Network.

  19. Jonn Lilyea

Still Googling your name like a twelve year old girl, Jere?

  20. Old Trooper

Mr. Beery; are you saying the Shantags are lying about Trumpower? Are you saying that they should give up outing phonies and concentrate on hunting down illegal aliens that our government has no intention of doing anything about? What purpose would that serve? In your article, you give the impression that outing phonies isn’t that important, kind of like our current administration’s view on illegals.

What are you suggesting the Shantags should do? Do you want them to just quit and go away, so that no one looks at phonies ever again? If that’s your position; then how could you, in good conscience, not only be a member of DAV, but also a Post Officer of that organization, knowing you really don’t care if someone is getting benefits they didn’t earn and may, in fact, be a member of DAV based on a lie?

I’m just asking, because I would like to know what your position really is. I don’t know what your problem is with Larry Bailey, who is a retired O-6, but it sounds like you don’t like that he started by outing phony SEALs and continued on to more types of phonies.

Last thing; I don’t know where you got the impression that we are all clowns that need to brag about our records or that we went after you. The only person that I know of, from reading the original thread, that questioned you was the author of the piece. You mention it was a “hatch job”, yet that’s exactly what your article about the Shantags is. You despise them and mention there are several government agencies that do the job that POW Network does; okay, name them and list how many phonies they have uncovered in the last few years. Last I checked, you don’t need to be an agent of the bloated federal government in order to file a FOIA request on someone’s military records. You don’t even have to be an agent of the government to blow the whistle on fraud, or do you think that you are the only one with such powers?

I know of a few fakers. Unemployability is the other way to collect. All you have to do is go for an interview, show yourself as unwanted and BINGO 100% VA Disability. I will be keeping in touch.

  22. Jason Anderson

Cute how Beerey showed up immediately after a guy he supposedly served with came to tout him as a genuine hero.

Even cuter that the douche nozzle claiming to share shrapnel with Beerey decided to throw around a bunch of numbers and historical figures to further push along his point.

You fucks are so transparent it’s down right disgraceful, there’s a special place in hell for stolen valor faggots. Taking it up the ass from VC – since you seem to want to have lived in a hell most would be happy to forget in your time on earth.

Get off it, this world would be a better place without you. Do us all a favor and eat a bullet, at least the taxes on it contribute to this country.

Jere Beery may have fought and been wounded in Viet Nam and may certainly be deserving of our appreciation for his service. However, he and his Area 5301 and OFFE bunch have done nothing but cause hurt and damage to Veterans who have bought into their BS about not paying spousal support and child support. He should just shut up and stop hurting people.
