Nine Years Ago

Our buddy, Parachute Cutie, reminds us that nine years ago today “The Herd” jumped into Iraq at Bashure Airfield when Turkey wouldn’t let the 4th Infantry Division invade from the north. There’s always a way around you Hussein-lovers. But go read her link. I’m thinking if I joined the 173rd, she might have a thing for me, too.

BABE…I’ve had a thing for you since the first time I laid eyes on you.

Thank you for sharing this about “my” Paratroopers.

You are no Jay, but you’re right up there with him, Jonn. 🙂

  3. Why would anybody jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

  4. ROS

The AF has perfectly good airplanes?

Can I just say Tax season sucks! Leta, If I were a dude,I’d have a mancrush!! Just sayin’, you rock!

  6. defendUSA

    And so does the 173rd!!

DoD pays a paratrooper ~$110 to jump out of a ‘perfectly safe aircraft.’

DoD pays the flight crew several thousand a year to land in it.

It pays to fly when the silk’s your ride.

Looks like Lt Colonel William Mayville Jr, now Major General Mayville was/is quite the bad ass.

defendUSA – aw shucks. Thanks. Hey, I’ve missed you! And how darn lucky am I? Right?

CI Roller Dude: knowing how (and having a ‘chute) gives you an option if the plane breaks. It’s not really something you want to do “for record” the first time with no training.

Its true that 173rd’s role in the north kinda of gets obscured after the jump. They didn’t have one of the better reputation’s, they just had the misfortune of being wedged(chronologically and geographically) between the 101st, which had an excellent reputation, and the 4th ID, which had a very poor one.

Meant to say they “did” have one of the better reputation.
