Too many good men and women lying in these places. Too many families changed forever as a result. That these men and women for a time walked among us never ceases to amaze me, this Monday is their day, when a nation should quietly remember them and consider the dedication of these fine men and women, our honored dead.
Perhaps Monday’s observation will inspire some folks who have received the benefits of the nation without ever making any sacrifice to take some action on Tuesday to help those service members who yet live but whose lives are altered forever through their wounds.
Just seeing that woman sitting on the ground in front of that headstone is difficult, as her loss lingers forever. Let’s make sure that her loss has meaning for the nation and honor the memory of her loved one in an appropriate fashion.
To my Brother and Sister in Arms. May your Memorial Day be filled with all that you have given to this great country. To our Honored Lost, I promise to Remember and will never forget. Rest in Peace We have the Watch!!!!

To all my brothers ans sisters here who served. Please let us remember the fallen comrades this Memorial day. It has in someways become a day to remember all family members, veteran or not, who have passed away. That is sad to me. It is a day set aside to remember and honor in the highest the men and woman who gave “the last full measure”. Those lost in military service are all our heroes. Now and God willing, forever. May the spirit of the “Tomb Of the Unknown Soldier” be lifted to the highest of esteem this weekend and on that day. For those that are “Unknown, still to this day”, in that tomb and lying in unmarked graves the world over. God bless them all, God bless their service to our country and God bless their loved ones. May they all find peace someday.

My grandfather, father and uncles all have U.S. Army grave markers and one day I will be buried underneath my own.

Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As taps began to play.
The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.
They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here ‘neath the sand.
I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.
Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,
Thanks for what you’ve given
No one could ask for more.

I thought some of you might be interested in reading some information about MSG Timothy L. Martin, whose name is on the headstone in the picture just above.
“Let us, then, at the time appointed, gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of springtime; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence review our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon the nation’s gratitude . . . ”

Sadly Memorial Day has become nothing more than a day off from work to cook out to a large number of Americans. Thankfully my unit is going out this weekend with the American Legion and honoring those that went before us by placing flags at their resting places.
