  • AG Lynch: our most effective response to terror is…love

    The Washington Times reports that Attorney General Loretta Lynch told reporters in Orlando, Florida that her plan to defeat Islamic terrorism is so simple a caveman can do it;

    “To the LGBT community — we stand with you,” President Obama’s attorney general said. “The good in this world far outweighs the evil. Our common humanity transcends our differences, and our most effective response to terror is compassion, it’s unity and it’s love. We stand with you today because we grieve together, and long after the cameras are gone will continue to stand with you as we grow together in commitment and solidarity and in equality.”

    ABC News says that Lynch also said that we may never know what the animal’s intentions were in that night club;

    “Whenever you look at someone’s motivation or intent, whether living or whether they’re dead, you look at their actions and their activities surrounding the event,” Lynch said today. “You look at what they said, you look at what they did, you look at how they behaved. And you come up with the most reasonable interpretation, the one that fits the facts there. I cannot tell you definitely that we will ever narrow it down to one motivation. People often act out of more than one motivations – this was clearly an act of terror and an act of hate.”

    It looks like the Feds can’t find the animal’s ex-wife now, Noor Salman, the one who took special ed classes in high school, according to the Sun-Sentinel;

    Seddique Mateen — father of the Orlando massacre shooter Omar Mateen — said Wednesday morning that Omar’s wife Noor Salman was “no longer here” and that she was no longer in the area. He would not say where she had gone.

    […]

    At about noon, St. Lucie County sheriff’s deputies arrived, went into the [Mateen] house for a few minutes, then left. The deputies who came and went did not comment.

    Yeah, I’m getting the sense that no one is really serious about this investigation.

    Report: ISIS cross-dressers busted trying to escape Fallujah

    The six captured were attempting to evade Iraqi troops approaching Fallujah.  Per the Iranian Fars News Agency, the six were wearing makeup, dresses, and were reportedly “beautiful”.

    No word on whether the six captured are being deported to Afghanistan as bacha bazi..  Regrettably, there’s also no word on whether any of them were wearing spandex.

  • Guns and laws

    Andy11M sends us a link about a CBS news producer who made a straw purchase of an AR-style rifle to prove how easy it is to buy a gun in Arlington, Virginia, on the outskirts of the nations’ capitol. Then she proves how easy it is to break gun laws – after filling out the ATF form 4473 and telling the Federal government that she was buying the gun for herself, she gave it to someone else;

    ATF 4473 page 2

    Of course, nothing will happen to the ditz, because gun control laws are about control, not gun safety and a CBS news segment about how easy it is for a person without a criminal record to buy a legal item from a legal distributor somehow contributes to the “control” aspect of the whole thing. Now, if we’re all equal under the law, the producer should be made an example, but no prosecutor wants to spend his money on prosecution of the media.

    Meanwhile, we find out that a legal gun dealer in Orlando reported the gunman who shot up Pulse last Sunday morning and actually refused to deal with him and reported his contact to the Feds, according to Fox News;

    Robbie Abell, who co-owns Lotus Gunworks in South Florida, said Mateen was asking about the highest-level body armor.

    Abell said the salesman knew that this was “not a question that a normal civilian would ask.”

    He said that when Mateen was told the store doesn’t carry that product, he started texting and talking to someone on his cell phone in a Middle Eastern-sounding language.

    He then asked about bulk ammunition before leaving the store empty-handed.

    Abell said staff were concerned, so they contacted the authorities about the shopper’s suspicious behavior

    They couldn’t provide a name or a photo of the man to the Feds, so the Feds dropped it. Of course, the Feds could have showed Abell pictures of Middle Eastern men that they were monitoring in the Orlando area and those pictures might have included the Orlando murderer – but that would be racist or profiling or something.

  • Obama rethinks withdrawal from Afghanistan

    According to ABC News, the President is having second thoughts about slashing troop levels in Afghanistan this year like he’d planned;

    British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon said Wednesday that “Carter told us the troop numbers and the dispositions are being looked at again.”

    The American reassurance to NATO allies comes on the heels of Obama’s decision last week to give the military wider latitude to support Afghan forces against the Taliban, both in the air and on the ground.

    Far from ending the two wars he inherited from the Bush administration, Obama is wrestling with an expanded set of conflicts as his presidency nears an end, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Libya and Syria, with no end in sight. In Afghanistan, a Taliban resurgence has upset Washington’s exit strategy, which called for troop reductions from 9,800 to 5,500 by the end of 2016.

    But Carter told reporters that Obama has indicated his willingness to re-examine force levels based on the intensified fight against the Taliban and Carter expects Obama to do that as the year goes on.

    Yeah, Obama didn’t “inherit” the Afghan War from Bush, he inherited it from the Taliban, and the reason that there’s no end in sight to any of this mess is because this administration hasn’t taken the war against terror seriously for even one minute – except when they thought that it could benefit their own legacy. The Military Times says that the Taliban controls more of Afghanistan now than at any other time since 2001;

    The Taliban’s warm-weather offensive has shown the insurgents to be bolder and better organized, holding more territory now than at any time since 2001, when their regime was overthrown by the U.S.-led invasion, according to recent U.N. estimates.

    Past months have also exposed flaws in the Afghan military — weak leadership, lack of professionalism, complacency and corruption, analysts say.

    Both Afghan and U.S. military officials expect the summer fighting to be deadly for Afghan troops, who suffered a 28 percent increase in fatalities in 2015, compared to the year before, when around 5,000 were killed.

    They’ve been half-assing the war in Afghanistan since that non-surge in 2009, now all of a sudden, it’s a problem.

  • Daesh Inspires Terrorist Attack in France

    In an act of barbarous terrorist violence, two police officers in France were murdered yesterday. Outside his home in Magnanville, northwest of Paris, a 42-year-old policeman was stabbed to death by Larossi Abballa, 25.

    Abballa then went inside and took a 36-year-old female policewoman (the slain policeman’s “partner”, per news articles) and their 3-year-old son hostage.

    Abballa later slit the policewoman’s throat. He was killed in a raid that terminated the incident. The 3-year-old was not physically harmed, but is described as being “in shock”.

    Abballa was known to French LE as a criminal, having spent 2+ years in French jails. He’d also recently been investigated in connection with a network recruiting jihadists to fight in Syria. However, though recently under surveillance Abballa had reportedly given French authorities no reason to believe he was planning an attack.

    At the time of the attack, Abballa was also apparently carrying a “hit list” of persons to be targeted. The list reportedly consisted primarily of police, journalists, and rappers.

    Abballa told negotiators during the incident that he was responding to a call by Daesh leadership to “kill infidels, at home, with their families.” But I guess this must just have been a reaction to French “police brutality”. After all: it can’t possibly have been a terrorist act perpetrated by a radical Islamic extremist in an attempt to expand the Ummah.

  • Apaches used in Mosul

    Apaches used in Mosul

    Apache

    According to Fox News, Apache attack helicopters have been used for the first time against ISIS in the battle to take back Mosul.

    A pair of Apaches were flying together, and one of them took the shot, the official said.

    There was no immediate word how many ISIS fighters were killed in the U.S. strike.

    The U.S. attack happened near the Iraqi city of Qayyarah, roughly 50 miles south of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city and an ISIS stronghold where the majority of ISIS fighters reside inside Iraq, according to defense officials.

    Seems like a long time in coming to me. “Defense officials” told Fox that the Apaches would only be used in Mosul and no where else in the battle for to take back Iraq from ISIS.

  • Jihadist in Orlando?

    Jihadist in Orlando?

    Pulse

    ABC News reports that a man went into a night club last night in Orlando, Florida with a rifle and a handgun and took hostages. He killed 20 people and wounded 40 more.

    At a press conference on Sunday at 7 a.m., FBI assistant agent in charge of the agency’s Tampa division Ron Hopper was asked if the shooter, who was shot and killed by police, had ties to Jihadist terror groups. “At this time we’re looking at all angles right now.” the official said. “We do have suggestions that that individual may have leanings towards that, that particular ideology. But right now we can’t say definitively so we’re still running everything around”

    CNN says that the club, “Pulse” was a “gay nightclub”.

    “It’s appears he was organized and well-prepared,” the chief said, adding that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and “some type of (other) device on him.”

    Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror. The FBI is involved.

    The shooting began around 2 a.m., and an officer responded, Mina said. The officer engaged in a shootout outside the club, after which the gunman ran into the club.

    “That turned into a hostage situation,” Mina said. Authorities were getting calls from people inside the club but away from the gunman, the chief said.
    More police rushed to the scene and broke down a door with an armored vehicle, helping some 30 clubgoers flee to safety, Mina said. At that point police shot and killed the gunman, he said.

    From the New York Times;

    The gunman was not from the Orlando area and was organized and well-prepared, the police said.

    The gunman was found dead inside the Pulse nightclub, one of the largest gay clubs in Orlando, about 5 a.m. after a shootout with officers who were attempting to rescue dozens of people who were being held hostage, said Chief Mina. He confirmed that the gunman had been killed by the police.

    The chief said it was difficult to assess the number of clubgoers who had been killed because many of the bodies had not been removed.

    UPDATE: According to CBS News, his name is Omar Mir Seddique Mateen;

    Law enforcement sources told CBS News the gunman has been identified as Omar Mateen, a U.S. citizen from Port St. Lucie. Mateen was born to Afghan parents in 1986. CBS News reports Mateen has no apparent criminal history and that authorities are investigating whether he had ties to Islamic terrorism.

    Gateway Pundit says that ISIS warned of an attack in Florida three days ago. Lucky guess?

    Live from the White House;

    According to the President, it’s about gun control, not terrorism. Restrict law abiding citizens from protecting themselves. The man who committed this tragedy was investigated twice by the feds as a terrorist, but the NICS failed us, once again. And it’s legal gun owners who will pay the price. “Is this the kind of country that we want to live in?”

    Headline says it all.

    Hackers spamming ISIS supporters on Twitter with graphic PORN

    Apparently they’ve managed to take down or degrade a number of well-known Daesh Twitter accounts. Seems that Daesh members find the images “haram” and either make the accounts private – or drop the accounts entirely.

    Whatever works.
