  • Guantanamo Theater; Wear Orange Day

    Since today is the sixth anniversary of the first group of terrorist thugs to arrive in Guantanamo, the ACLU and Amnesty International pooled their resources in DC and organized Wear Orange Day to protest the isolation of murderous thugs from the rest of the world. And this blogger was there.

    It began down on the National Mall on 12th Street in the pouring-ass rain

    The theme was “Counter Terror With Justice”, which was a pretty phrase for infantile disregard of the realities of the world. Especially since the jihadists are countering justice with terror.

    Of course, those are fake Guantanamo detainees on the stage (out of the rain) but they had extra detainee uniforms if you didn’t have your own. And apparently they had psychologists if you needed one of those, too;

    There was a lot of speechifying about how we’ve lived under a dictatorship for the last six years, and how the people dressed in detainee clothes was the future of the country if we don’t have some change soon. There was even some guy who claimed to have been a prisoner in the Philipines and somehow his imprisonment there for some unspoken crime gave him insight to the torture in Guantanamo the detainees were “suffering”. I missed his point but he got big applause for his bravery.

    After standing in the rain for an hour or so, they announced that everyone who borrowed their detainee suits should turn them in – apparently because they’ll need them again. Then after a half hour of herding cats, they got everyone lined up two-by two and marched the half-mile to the Supreme Court, carrying five coffins.

    I don’t know why there were five – only four have died out the hundreds of detainees. Three from suicide and one because of colon cancer (at the age of 68).

    This one of the evil US troops (hippie pretending to be an evil US troop) that herded the hooded actors to the Supreme Court;

    And her pony-tailed partner

    Taking Capitol Hill with the media in the lead;

    When I first got to the Supreme Court, there was a guy singing “Guantanamera” (YouTube link) I guess he thought the song set to lyrics by Jose Marti (who inspired the revolution against Spain) was appropriate. But other than the name, it has nothing to do with Guantanamo. Lucky for you, my readers, I turned off the camera before he started harmonizing for himself and decided to try and rap the song in English. You’re welcome.
    In this video (YouTube link), we learn that the detainees are poets, which makes them human – I guess their humanity was a product of their imprisonment because be fore they arrived there, they were thugs and murderers.
    Well, the Capitol police were waiting for us when we got to the Supreme Court Building;

    For good reasons – the organizers and the police had collaborated to stage arrests. There’s a YouTube video link here – I think my camera was wet but the important is part is the “Arrest George Bush” rants. More video of the crowd here – serious cases of BDS. The worst I’ve witnessed in person.

    I got some pictures of the most orderly arrests in history (since the perps were already handcuffed when they got arrested);

    But it was all very carefully crafted. While I was taking pictures behind the podium, one guy ran up to another and said “OK, the police want to go ahead and arrest them now”. That was a pretty good hint to me.

    Associated Press reports 81 people were arrested. Not while I was there. I doubt there 81 protesters – but the only people I saw arrested were the 15 or so who went up the steps of the Supreme Court Building against the warnings of the Capitol Police. The Washington Post writes about the arrests;

    They were charged with violating an ordinance that prohibits demonstrations of any kind on the court’s grounds. Those arrested inside the building also were charged under a provision that makes it a crime to give “a harangue or oration” in the court building. The maximum penalty is 60 days in jail, a fine or both.

    BBC has pictures of events around the world.

    Michele Malkin (whose work Thursday alerted me to the protest on Friday) has more on the protests in rest of the country. And now, Michele has linked to this post – thanks tons. Thanks to the Gateway Pundit for linking, too. Welcome readers of other gracious bloggers who’ve also linked here; my buddy the Bloodthirsty Liberal, Jay at Stop the ACLU, Pirate’s Cove, and Darcey at Dust My Broom.

  • Bush Screws Israel

    There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967. The agreement must establish Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people. These negotiations must ensure that Israel has secure, recognized, and defensible borders. And they must ensure that the state of Palestine is viable, contiguous, sovereign, and independent.

    Thus spoke President George W Bush.

    The occupied territories, have been occupied by Israel since Israel whipped the combined forces of seven Arab nations. This is important, because, historically, conquest is how nations acquire land.
    The US, with the Louisiana Purchase from France and the purchase of Alaska from Russia, is one of the very few, if not the only nation to have expanded it’s borders by purchasing, rather than conquering lands. That Israel has been, for the past sixty years, the only democracy in the region, should be enough of a reason to side with the Israelis on this question. That they are hated for the race and religion of their populace should bring liberals screaming out of the woodwork to defend them. That Arab nations have funded the “palestinian” campaign of terrorism against Israel is another reason the US should stand with Israel.

    Not too long ago, President Bush stated that other nations are either with us or are with the terrorists and that the United States would fight terrorism and those who support it anywhere and everywhere it is found. Well, damn, George, what happened to that? The Israelis have tried, time and again to negotiate a peace with those Arabs who call themselves palestinian. The palestinians and their supporters, the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah have bombed, murdered and fired rockets into Israel in direct violation of treaties they begged and pleaded for.LV Sun/AP story

  • Iran’s Hormuz feint not out of character (Updated)

    Image from the Wall Street Journal

    The Wall Street Journal reported this morning that the Pentagon released a video of the the Islamic Republic’s feint against US warships in the Gulf of Hormuz;

    Tehran acknowledged that the boats were Iranian and denied that its sailors had behaved recklessly.

    Iran seemed certain to dominate Mr. Bush’s coming meetings with Mideast leaders even before the confrontation, because every nation on Mr. Bush’s itinerary — from Israel to Sunni Arab powers Egypt and Saudi Arabia — is alarmed by Iran’s rising influence over the region.

    Many of the countries, most notably Israel, also worry that the Bush administration may be adopting a softer line toward Iran after the release of an U.S. intelligence estimate that concluded Tehran had halted its nuclear-weapons program.

    It is unclear if the latest incident will reassure the Israeli and Arab leaders or alarm them further, since the U.S. sailors — while warning the Iranians that they would take “defensive measures” if the small boats didn’t turn around — allowed the Iranians to pull within a few hundred yards of the U.S. warships.

    Gateway Pundit has the video, still shots and narrative. The Islamic Republic denies anything out of the ordinary happened (Associated Press link);

    Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar called Western news reports that the boats threatened to blow up the U.S. warships “mischief.”

    “(Iranian) navy units … asked them to identify themselves. They responded accordingly and continued their path,” the official IRNA news agency quoted Najjar as saying.

    He said the encounter was normal.

    “The identification of vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian navy units is a natural occurrence,” IRNA quoted Najjar as saying. “Islamic Republic of Iran navy units always put questions to passing vessels and warships at the Strait of Hormuz and they need to identify themselves. This is in accordance with the normal procedures.”

    Persian language blogger Haji Washington (translation by Kamanzir the Archer) speculates that it was a tacit Iranian endorsement for the Clinton New Hampshire campaign;

    If the US is telling the truth and if IRGC vessels have gotten close to the American ships, without any legitimate reason, I would argue that the IRGC likes to see Hillary Clinton as the next president of the united states of America. But why do I say so?

    When Clinton voted in the senate for the recognition of the IRGC as a terrorist organization, Obama criticized her for helping those who like to start the war. The same criticism was made by Edwards and had a great impact on increasing the popularity of Obama against Clinton,. Now that Obama has won Iowa and is leading with his 39% popularity, as opposed to Clinton’s 29%, and is going to win in New Hampshire on Thursday, this report can be the winning card for Clinton.

    I do hope that Clinton’s aides do not get the point.

    The Islamic Republic has a history of tempting the Great Satan for political advantage. It was a few months short of twenty years ago that the Iranians flew an Airbus 300 at the USS Vincennes and disregarded warnings to avoid the heavily armed Navy craft. 300 Iranian civilians were killed in that accident (BBC link);

    However, [then-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff William Crowe] said, the Airbus was four miles west of the usual commercial airline route and the pilot ignored repeated radio warnings from the Vincennes to change course.

    Less than an hour before the shooting down of the passenger jet, he added, the Vincennes was engaged in a gun battle with three Iranian gunboats after a helicopter from the Vincennes was fired on.

    Given the mileage the mullahs got over the accident twenty years ago, I don’t blame the Navy crews for holding their fire this last weekend – they showed remarkable restraint. I’m sure the pucker factor was at critical levels, but their restraint snatched another small victory from the Islamic Republic.

    Update: Kamangir the Archer translates a rather nuanced denial from the Islamic Republic that those are IRGC boats (after admitting that they were IRGC boats).

  • We’re winning the war at home, too (UPDATED)

    I got wind a few weeks ago that ANSWER was planning a protest in DC on March 15th. So my immediate reaction was to check the Gathering of Eagles forum – and they had already planned a counter-protest. Well, that was good news for me because protests always raise my traffic through here.

    Today, I went back to ANSWER’s website and there was no mention of the March event. Strange. So I went to GOE’s forum and lo and behold, ANSWER had cancelled their protest;

    Do you ever think that we’re spinning our wheels in fighting the America-hating moonbats? Well, consider this:

    A.N.S.W.E.R., MoveOn.org, and their affiliated purveyors of political puke have canceled their planned March 15th event! They are increasingly intimidated by the prospect of us and our allies confronting them in the streets wherever that might be, in Hometown, USA, or Washington, DC.

    Accordingly, we will not have the “Americans Standing Up” rally in DC on the weekend of March 15th, as there will be no opposition to confront, and you KNOW we love to intimidate those misguided souls and their anti-American leaders like Cindy Sheehan and George Soros!

    In a nutshell, WE ARE WINNING THE BATTLE! And we will win the war for the soul of America!

    Now you have to remember these clowns had anti-war protests in DC planned BEFORE 9-11, and now they’re canceling events during the war. They just might be getting it that they’re not accomplishing anything.

    Adam Kokesh and the IVAW haven’t gotten the news yet apparently because they still plan to have their John Kerry-style theatrics called Winter Soldier II. But it may just be that they’re is too lazy to update their websites. When I hear more, I’ll post more.

    UPDATE: Gathering of Eagles is planning on being in town for the Winter Soldier II thingie, so your blogger will be there, too. Good excuse to take a coupla days off from work. You up for it, Kate?
