  • Battle of Wanat revisited.

    Since the removal of the letters of reprimand there is been some protests. This one caught my eye that was posted by Thomas E. Ricks.

    He has been posting articles about the families of those who where involved.

    Scores of men who were at Wanat have testified that they were down to one bottle of water. When they did get resupplied at the end, the water was so laced with iodine it was almost impossible to drink in the 100 degree weather. Yet because the commanders, trying to save their own skin, told Campbell that the troops had enough water, he took their word for it. In his sham investigation Campbell apparently interviewed only the three commanders being charged. That’s not an investigation, it’s a whitewash.
    Part 1

    “Was it absolutely necessary that Wanat be occupied given the economy of force mission, terrain and obvious scarcity of resources? Did the Battalion and Brigade allow themselves to become overextended, continuously putting their soldiers in unduly high-risk situations?”

    Part 2

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

    There too much without quoiting the entire website. But the one on part three is something else. It was claimed that it was written by the father of one of the Soldiers that was killed in the battle, Cpl Pruitt Rainey. Yea it is one of those that you have to read it for yourself.

    Now trying to figure out the truth in any of this is going to make finding a needle in a haystack a cake walk.

  • Fewer airstrikes as ground combat intensifies

    USAToday reports that coalition forces are using their main asset in the war in Afghanistan…air power…75% less than they were three years ago;

    So far this year, jets have dropped bombs on only 10% of their combat support missions, compared with almost 40% in 2007, Air Force records show. The decline coincides with the arrival of most of the additional 30,000 U.S. troops ordered to Afghanistan by President Obama. Attacks on U.S. and allied troops — as well as deaths — are at all-time highs.

    So, the administration gives commanders fewer troops than those commanders say they need to win the war and then hamstring them with rules of engagement which won’t let them give the troops the support they need.

    They sure know how to make me an anti-war blogger.

  • Obama Administration: al Qaeda is racist

    Apparently, the Obama Administration thinks that al Qaeda’s whole problem is that they’re racist. This from ABC News’ Jake Tapper;

    Speaking about the Uganda bombings, the president said, “What you’ve seen in some of the statements that have been made by these terrorist organizations is that they do not regard African life as valuable in and of itself. They see it as a potential place where you can carry out ideological battles that kill innocents without regard to long-term consequences for their short-term tactical gains.”

    Wait. Wait. The explanation of that statement from “an official” of the Obama Administration:

    “In short,” the official said, “al Qaeda is a racist organization that treats black Africans like cannon fodder and does not value human life.”

    Is there anyone who isn’t racist? That comes from the useless practice of navel-gazing about why terrorists kill us. If the Obama Administration spent as much time killing terrorists as they do explaining to wach other wht they do it, maybe we’d win this thing sooner.

    After all, isn’t the fact that they terrorize more serious than the answer to the why?

  • Younger Taliban give US troops pause

    Reuters is reporting that our troops in Afghanistan is noticing a younger enemy than 10 years ago;

    Whether or not Ahmad and his 15-year-old friend had been laying homemade bombs or had even fired weapons at U.S. troops before, Best’s men will probably never find out, but the arrests illustrate a worrying trend reported from soldiers on the ground: that they are encountering an increasingly younger fighter.

    “Over the last eight to nine years there has been a dynamic change in the age of fighters. Most fighters now are between 14 and 18 years-old,” said Lieutenant Colonel Guy Jones, commander of 2-508th Parachute Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, based in Arghandab.

    “In 2002, fighters were 22 to 30-years-old and commanders were between 32 and 40,” said Jones who is on his fourth tour in Afghanistan.

    This probably indicates that the Taliban is running out of recruits and so they drop thei target age for the new fighters. I know I’d take an extra second or two before pulling the trigger on a 15-year-old.

  • “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day” inspiration on an execution hit list

    Molly Norris, the Seattle cartoonist who first had the idea for “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day” and then changed her mind, was told by the FBI that she’s on an al Qaeda hitlist these days, thanks to the American-born Muslim cleric who is said to have inspired Nidal Hasan, the Fort Drum Hood murderer and the Detroit underwear bomber.

    In an English-language Al Qaeda magazine that calls itself “Inspire,” Awlaki damns Norris and eight others for “blasphemous caricatures” of the Prophet Muhammed. The other cartoonists, authors and journalists in Awlaki’s cross hairs are Swedish, Dutch and British citizens.

    “The medicine prescribed by the Messenger of Allah is the execution of those involved,” writes Awlaki, 39, a Las Cruces, N.M.-born American citizen.

    “A soul that is so debased, as to enjoy the ridicule of the Messenger of Allah, the mercy to mankind; a soul that is so ungrateful towards its lord that it defames the Prophet of the religion Allah has chosen for his creation does not deserve life, does not deserve to breathe the air.”

    That’s probably why Ms. Norris decided not to have her name attached to the Draw Muhammad Day. Pretty damn sad that folks who mostly can’t give up their goat-roping roots are terrorizing people around the world for having a different opinion – yet they’re the ones who scream the loudest about being oppressed. And the media gives them the megaphone with which to do it.

    By the way, I drew the shit out of Muhammad, and then resourceful guy that I am, I wrapped my fresh bacon and pork chops in the drawings.

  • Shocker: al Qaeda kills most civilians

    Don’t get me wrong, every accidental death of a civilian is a tragedy, but the Associated Press tells us this morning than al Qaeda has killed more than Americans this year

    [T]he share of accidental deaths by coalition and Afghan government forces – which can turn people against the government and foreign troops – is falling, the Afghan rights group said in a report.

    It said international forces were responsible for 210 civilian deaths from Jan. 1 to June 30 this year – about 20 percent of the total, down from 26 percent for the same period last year.

    You wouldn’t think so reading the media’s reports and listening to Harmid Karzai’s complaints. One must also wonder how accurate that 20 percent number is given the difficulty of determining the combatant status in this war.

  • Three arrested in Norwegian terror plot

    The Washington Post writes that three members of al Qaeda were arrested this morning in Europe for plotting a bombing attack in Norway.

    Kristiansen said one of the men was a 39-year-old Norwegian of Uighur origin, who had lived in Norway since 1999. The other suspects included a 37-year-old Iraqi and a 31-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan, both of whom have permanent residency permits in Norway.

    Officials believe they were planning attacks with portable but powerful bombs like the ones at the heart of last year’s thwarted suicide attack in the New York City subway.

    So how’s all that dhimmi BS that Norway has been playing with “asians” working out? Apparently terror is going to be a political tool of muslims no matter how much countries cave into them.

    Officials said it was not clear the men had selected a target for the attacks but they were attempting to make peroxide bombs, the powerful homemade explosives that prosecutors say were attempted in both New York and England.

    It’s like stomping on an anthill, you might kill most of them but a few will always get through. The West is running out of luck.

  • What’s in a name (or a report)

    Well one of the newest thing going around thanks to the group Rethink Afghanistan. The report is this one by a independent group titled The Effect of Civilian Casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq. So of course Rethink Afghanistan jumps all over it with this follow up story.

    Yea like we are not trying to do this already.

    Also the photo is worth a look.

    A few things come to mind. The first is a absolute desire from the person taking the photo to cause the viewer to become distanced from the Solider. Following that it is trying to do the opposite with the children in the photo. Lastly, does it not look like there is a cap on that M16?

    It is just frustrating I mean that people do not see things like this. I mean how would it change the story if they used a photo like this instead?

    Oh if that was not enough, Russia media is now claiming that the US military sent “Hardcore Neo-Nazi’s” to Iraq and Afghanistan.
