    Taliban apologize for blowing up prisoners

    Johann sends us a link from Tolo News in regards to an apology that the Taliban issued the other day after they attacked the prison at Bagram and ended blowing up the folks they intended to rescue;

    Militant rocket attacks on Bagram Prison in Parwan province mistakenly injured 20 Taliban insurgents detained there, officials said on Saturday. The Taliban has released a statement expressing regret for harming their fellow militants.

    Attacks on Bagram Airbase, which houses the prison, have increased in recent weeks. But this is the first of such attacks that the Taliban has expressed remorse for.

    In response to the Taliban’s statement expressing sympathy for the Taliban prisoners wounded by their onslaught, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has said the Taliban should apologize to the families of all those civilians they have killed in their attacks.

    Too bad, so sad. The Taliban should rescue more of the prisoners, more often.

    There’s this fellow, Musa al-Gharbi, who happens to be what he calls a “research fellow” at the Southwest Initiative for the Study of Middle East Conflicts, he’s also an instructor at the University of Arizona’s Department of Government and Public Service, his alma mater.

    al-Gharbi wrote a piece in that misnamed anti-war, anti-US website for stank-ass hippies called “Truthout“. Mr. al-Gharbi writes a comparison of US troops to the thugs in ISIS, of course, he arrives at the conclusion that US troops are no worse.

    He uses links to popular culture sources to support his contention. For example in this paragraph;

    However, over the course of that war, and the subsequent 2003 war in Iraq, US soldiers and contractors repeatedly used rape as a weapon of war, both against prisoners and the local civilian population. But perhaps more disturbing than the crimes committed by US personnel against Iraqis and Afghans were the atrocities committed by servicemen against their fellow soldiers.

    To support that paragraph, al-Gharbi links to an Asian Tribune article that was supposed to provide pictures of US soldiers raping an Iraqi woman but was later proven to be screenshots of a staged porn movie. Really, really weak research for a research fellow.

    He goes on and on pointing out the Abu Gahraib thing, the “Kill Team”, the old one-in-three women in the military are raped canard. He uses the “urination Marines”, the old LA Times photos of troops mugging with body parts from suicide bombers. He also claims that Obama is waging a war against Islam, that white Christian Americans are on a another Crusade. Yeah, we;re doing a pretty poor job of even doing that in this country. All of which resulted in people doing time or in some way being punished, but with nothing other than his words, he claims that there are many more incidents which aren’t prosecuted.

    All of that is to support his vacuous point. Which I guess is that we should just let ISIS have their way and establish a caliphate for him and his pals to splash around in and play jihadist.

    I’d point out that al-Gharbi also wrote a piece in al-Jazeera that blames Israel for starting this last war between Hamas and Israel, so his head isn’t screwed on real tight. He’s kind of single-mindedly anti-West and he’s protected by academia.

    Our buddy, Jeff Schogol at the Military Times sends us a link from the Marine Corps Times in regards to some ISIS leaflets found in the town of Quantico, Virginia near the Marine Corps’ base.

    A government employee came upon seven leaflets on Wednesday afternoon while running through the town of Quantico, Bormann told Marine Corps Times. The leaflets have a reversed image of the Islamic State group’s flag and writing in Arabic that is translated as “We are here from Mexico and came by train,” Bormann said in an email.

    “Security personnel from the base informed the town of Quantico, the FBI and NCIS,” Bormann said. “While these leaflets may be a hoax, base officials are taking their discovery seriously.”

    Investigators are working to determine if the leaflets are authentic, he said. The leaflets have not been found at any other Marine Corps installations.

    Other blogs are reporting that the leaflets were found on the base, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I lean towards hoax, but at least folks seem to be taking it seriously. If they’re going to check out everyone who came from Mexico in Northern Virginia, that’ll take a while.

    Jihad Watch says that the lettering is upside down and reversed – coulda fooled me.

    According to Fox News a few dozen Guantanamo alumnus have gone to Syria and joined their buds in ISIS and the al Qaeda units there.

    Some of those former Guantanamo detainees were released within the last three years.

    Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., said in a statement the development “underscores the risks we face when Guantanamo detainees are released based on a misguided desire to close Guantanamo — rather than the national security interests of the United States.”

    She urged President Obama to suspend further transfers “at least until a thorough review can be conducted to better understand how many former Guantanamo detainees have joined ISIS and what we can do to prevent such an outcome in the future.”

    US intelligence sources estimate that 180 Gitmo grads have returned to the fight worldwide, according to Jennifer Griffith in this video.

    Obviously, we’re just kicking the terror can down the road and it’s coming back to bite us in the ass much sooner than this administration had hoped.

    The Washington Post reports that 11 Iraqi police officers were hospitalized when ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State troops used chlorine gas in their battle for Duluiyah.

    The police officers, all members of the Sunni Jabbour tribe, which has turned against the Islamic State, were guarding a line in the town’s north. After an exchange of fire, they said, they were surprised to see Islamic State fighters retreating from their position about 150 yards away.

    Suddenly there was a boom in the area the extremists had just vacated, said Lt. Khairalla al-Jabbouri, 31, one of the survivors. “It was a strange explosion. We saw a yellow smoke in the sky,” he said. The wind carried the fog toward their lines. The men say it hung close to the ground, consistent with the properties of chlorine gas, which is heavier than air.

    “I felt suffocated,” Jabbouri recalled. “I was throwing up and couldn’t breathe.”

    Another officer, Ammer Jassim Mohammed, 31, who suffers from asthma, said he passed out within minutes.

    The four physicians who treated them said there was no question that chlorine gas was to blame.

    One physician on the team, Hassanain Mohammed, had treated similar cases­ before. In 2006 and 2007, al-Qaeda in Iraq, a group that later morphed into the Islamic State, carried out a string of chlorine bombings in the country.

    I’m guessing that the stocks of the chemical weapons that we’ve known were in Syria for decades are the source for ISIS’ weapons, you know those weapons that we knew existed but did nothing about, through several presidential administrations. They weren’t pointed at us and there were members of Congress who told us that Assad was a “reformer” and someone we could deal with;

  • NY police officers attacked by fellow with a axe

    A fellow by the name of Zale Thompson attacked a group of NY City Police Officers with an axe. In keeping with the training of the department, the officers shot a passerby while defending themselves from this fellow, and one officer, Kenneth Healey has a fractured skull as a result of the axe attack. According to Fox News, terrorism hasn’t been ruled out in the incident. I wouldn’t rule it out either. The above picture is a screen shot of Mr. Thompson’s Facebook profile header.

    Thompson was a “very educated” proponent of “black power” and a graduate of the College of New Rochelle in Harlem, one classmate who asked not to be identified told the Post.

    “He always spoke positively,” the source said.

    But former neighbors at Thompson’s Brooklyn address said he had become “weird” and argumentative in recent months before moving to Jamaica earlier this year.

    Sources told the Post that Thompson held the hatchet in two hands — like a baseball bat — and swung three times. The first swing broke the cop’s arm, while the second was a miss. The third struck Healey in the back of the head, sources said.

    I guess we’ll have to wait.

  • Getting It Exactly Wrong

    FOX News is reporting that the Canadian government is responding to the terrorist attack in Ottawa by ordering all Canadian service members to avoid wearing their uniforms in public so that they do not present themselves as available targets. The order is in response to ISIS’s recent public urging to its minions in Western societies to seek out and murder military men and their families, as well as yesterday’s shooting of the unarmed ceremonial soldier at the Canadian monument paying tribute to past soldiers’ sacrifices and military achievements.

    Hiding its warriors is exactly the opposite of the tactic that a nation with any sense of national fortitude, not to mention dignity, should be using when it comes under attack by terrorists. Instead of kowtowing to terrorist threats and ordering his soldiers into hiding, the Canadian prime minister should order all Canadian reserve forces onto national active duty and instruct Canada’s military command that all active-duty personnel will be required to carry a loaded military-issued weapon – at the very least a prominently displayed sidearm, either hip-mounted or in a shoulder holster.

    In support of such a display of arms, the Canadian military should immediately present to its forces up-to-the-minute classroom and range instruction on how to respond to a terrorist event that unfolds in their presence, with heavy emphasis on immediate and permanent elimination of the threat to innocent Canadian citizens. They should be taught to shoot to kill, to destroy in the shortest possible time the threat to them and other citizens. They should be taught to disregard the ingrained tendency to shout commands to halt and desist and instead put rounds on target.

    Good grief, Minister Harper, where the hell is the strength that built your huge frontier country? Are you so neutered by political correctness and fear of violence that you would instruct your military forces to hide among your helpless civilians? Sorry, Harper, but that is a weasel’s response when your country is threatened. It is time, man, to set loose your sheepdogs to protect your sheep.

    ISIS has declared its intent to bring death to America by urging traitors among us to murder military service members and their families. The evidence indicates that these Muslim terrorists have mounted such attacks on American service members in the past and, on the occasion of the Fort Hood shooting, their families as well. But this is the first time that we have seen a general public call by any jihadist organization for American embeds to attack the families of our warriors. We, as a country, should consider that call for miscellaneous murder of innocents to be a major change of the rules of engagement and respond accordingly.

    I predict that the day the first American soldier’s family is murdered by ISIS thugs will be the first day of the eventual, but total, destruction of this deadly Islamic infestation.

  • 3 Denver teen girls stopped from joining ISIS

    The FBI stopped three teen age girls — two sisters, ages 17 and 15, and their 16-year-old friend — from going to Turkey, possibly to become ISIS brides, when they flew through Frankfurt, Germany last weekend. The girls skipped school on Friday and their families claim they didn’t know what they had planned, according to the Associated Press;

    Another U.S. official called the case “concerning” both to the community and to the country in general. The official said the evidence gathered so far made it clear that the girls were headed to Syria, though the official said investigators were still determining what sort of contacts they had in that country. The official said investigators would be trying to figure out whether there were “like-minded” friends and acquaintances in the girls’ social circle.

    They weren’t the first, and they probably won’t be the last. Lee Smith tries to explain the phenomenon in the Tablet;

    A Washington Institute for Near East Policy poll last week showed that the Islamic State has more support in Europe than it does in the Middle East. The poll reported that only 3 percent of Egyptians, 5 percent of Saudis, and under 1 percent of Lebanese “expressed a positive opinion of the IS.” On the other hand, 7 percent of U.K. respondents had a favorable view of the group, as did 16 percent of French polled—with 27 percent of French citizens between 18-24 responding favorably.

    So, why given a choice between a comfortable, if somewhat boring, life as a pharmacist in Hamburg, or fighting and dying in the desert, are thousands of Western Muslims opting for the latter?

    Because, for all the awesome social services and consumer goods it can offer, Europe has become incapable of endowing the lives of its citizens, Muslim or not, with meaning. A generation of young European Muslims are giving up their relatively easy lives in Malmö, Marseilles, and Manchester for the battlefields of Syria and Iraq, because Europe is devoid of values worth living—or dying—for. They are leaving for the same reason that Europe’s Jews are moving to Israel: Strength and a sense of purpose can be found elsewhere, whether it’s ISIS, Vladimir Putin, Ali Khameni, or the IDF.

    Yeah, it’s the culture – the more shock that you can elicit from your peers, the more accepted you become. Whether you’re Miley Cyrus or Ron Jeremy swinging on a wrecking ball naked. ISIS is the most shocking organization that you can join, so there you go. I’m actually surprised that Madonna hasn’t joined them yet. We can only hope.
