  • Women standing in the breach

    It’s not really surprising when an American woman earns a Silver Star – heroic, yes (most men have never earned a Silver Star) but not really surprising. Americans have always had women willing to pick up arms to defend their homes and families – it’s part of our national character, the character of a traditional liberal society. But now other women are taking up the job that their men can’t always do.

    From Grim at Blackfive, Iraqi women are giving coalition forces information on the people who are terrorizing their neighborhood and they’re organizing. The Sisters of Fallujah are bringing down desperate terrorists in that city and saving lives;

    It has become desperate times for the insurgents in the al Anbar province. Backed up against the ropes and badly beaten, they are trying to resort to any dirty trick that they can come up with… even if it means sneaking bomb-making material with women and children past the Coalition and Iraqi forces’ security.

    These tactics have proven to be futile thanks to the brave women known as the Sisters of Fallujah who selflessly help protect their city and stop any insurgents’ attempt to harm their community.

    The Sisters of Fallujah, a program which started Dec. 15, has local women working along-side Marines and Iraqi Police at each Entry Control Point, which allows inbound traffic and people into the city. They are at the forefront of their community’s defense where every woman, child and their belongings are searched by them.

    As are the Daughters of Iraq;

    Officials late Friday announced that some 30 Iraqi women would comprise the first “Daughters of Iraq” group to be formed in areas south of Baghdad. The U.S. military had dubbed the armed groups — which include nearly 100,000 members throughout the country — as the “Sons of Iraq.”

    While mainly Shiite, some of the groups are Sunni-led. The U.S. military says they are instrumental in guarding their neighborhoods, setting up checkpoints and finding roadside bombs.

    Officials with the 3rd Infantry Division, which commands U.S. troops south of Baghdad, called the formation of the first women’s group within the so-called “Sons of Iraq” a “bold step in its evolution.”

    Halfway around the world, the Damas de Blanco (The Ladies in White) are standing up to the Castro regime in Cuba (h/t Babalu Blog). 9 were arrested yesterday (Christian Science Monitor link);

    When Laura Pollán’s husband, a journalist, hosted his colleagues at their house in Havana, she busied herself in the kitchen making coffee. When their talk turned “too political,” she left.

    But since his imprisonment, the former high school teacher is now at the center of discussions, prayers, fasting – and a rare, impromptu street protest Monday. Ms. Pollán is a leader of the “Damas de Blanco” (Ladies in White), a group of wives, mothers, and sisters of 75 dissidents, many of them reporters, jailed after a sudden sweep of arrests nationwide in March 2003.

    On Monday morning, Pollán and nine other Damas were roughed up by a mob and arrested near the offices of President Raúl Castro. “We are here to demand the release of our husbands and won’t leave until they are free or they arrest us. We have waited long enough, we want to talk to the new president,” Pollán said, according to Reuters.

    Moments later, a bus pulled up and about 20 female corrections officers tried to arrest the women, who sat on the sidewalk, clasped arms, and refused to move. A mob of about 100 Cuban government supporters, mainly women from nearby government buildings, joined the fray, picking the Damas up, throwing them into the waiting bus, and yelling insults, Reuters reported.

    A video of the Damas de Blanco;

    I know that in my house, when the women get defiant men should stand aside and do their bidding. The world’s tyrants and oppressors can, from this moment forward, never say I didn’t warn them.

  • Muslims want to distract McCain and voters

    In this morning’s Washington Times, Rowan Scarbourgh writes that the Islamic Society of North America is attempting to change John McCain’s descriptions of the terrorists against whom we’re fighting;

     A coalition of American Muslim groups is demanding that Sen. John McCain stop using the adjective “Islamic” to describe terrorists and extremist enemies of the United States.

    Muneer Fareed, who heads the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), told The Washington Times that his group is beginning a campaign to persuade Mr. McCain to rephrase his descriptions of the enemy.

    “We’ve tried to contact his office, contact his spokesperson to have them rethink word usage that is more acceptable to the Muslim community,” Mr. Fareed said. “If it’s not our intent to paint everyone with the same brush, then certainly we should think seriously about just characterizing them as criminals, because that is what they are.”

    Here’s a hint Mr. Fareed;  It’s probably true that not all Muslims are terrorists, but all of the terrorists are Muslims.

    They use the Koran as an excuse to kill massive numbers of people, and they claim they do it for the prophet of the entire Muslim religion and point to passages in his texts as justification for their evil deeds. They’re recruited by supposed holy men of the Islamic religion and recruited in the places of worship of Islam. That makes them Islamic terrorists.

    Changing the language doesn’t make that any less true – it only distracts from the obvious.
    Refusing to admit the obvious is what brought us to this place in our shared history. Americans tried to be tolerant of what was going on under our noses, and we got killed for it. It seems to me that if Muslims were upset about the language we use, they’d do something about what happens in their own communities instead of trying to force their will on the rest of us over words and, instead change the realities in their communities to prevent more attacks on their FELLOW AMERICAN CITIZENS.

  • Iowahawk warned us

    Back in January, Iowahawk tried to warn us about the trend of journalists who’d reached the end of their ropes, snapped and turned to a life a crime. In Bylines of Brutality he wrote;

    A Denver newspaper columnist is arrested for stalking a story subject. In Cincinnati, a television reporter is arrested on charges of child molestation. A North Carolina newspaper reporter is arrested for harassing a local woman. A drunken Chicago Sun-Times columnist and editorial board member is arrested for wife beating. A Baltimore newspaper editor is arrested for threatening neighbors with a shotgun. In Florida, one TV reporter is arrested for DUI, while another is charged with carrying a gun into a high school. A Philadelphia news anchorwoman goes on a violent drunken rampage, assaulting a police officer. In England, a newspaper columnist is arrested for killing her elderly aunt.

    And he formed a not for profit organization and a public service message to inform the public of this scourge;

    2206776011_934651cc25_o.jpg

    And yet the problem continues according to Confederate Yankee;

    Today, another media victim has apparently cracked under the pressure in my own backyard. Well, not literally my backyard, but close:

    Eric Ralph Watson, 34, of 201 Old Grove Lane in Apex, was charged with one count of secret peeping. He was arrested shortly after 6 a.m. in the Brittany Trace subdivision, about a mile from his home.

    Yet another from Bostonmaggie;

    CNN personality Richard Quest was busted in Central Park early yesterday with some drugs in his pocket, a rope around his neck that was tied to his genitals, and a sex toy in his boot, law-enforcement sources said.

    Quest, 46, was arrested at around 3:40 a.m. after a cop spotted him and another man inside the park near 64th Street, a police source said.

    Well, CNN should have known better than to hire a guy with a gay porn star name anyway.

  • Anger for the sake of being angry

    06saudi550.jpg

    This morning, the Washington Post runs an article that tries to explain why Muslims mistrust the Pope;

    On Sunday, the pope will visit Ground Zero, perhaps the most poignant symbol of the divide between the West and the more extremist elements of Islam. But interviews in New York and elsewhere indicate that even those Muslims who do not hold such radical views are critical of the pope.

    Many still recall the pope’s September 2006 lecture at the University of Regensburg in Germany, in which Benedict quoted a Byzantine Christian emperor saying that the prophet Muhammad brought “things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”

    That lecture sparked days of protests in Muslim countries, some of them violent, and an Italian nun in Somalia was killed in retaliation. The Pope repeated several times that he regretted the offense his speech caused, and that he has deep respect for Islam. But the remarks have caused lingering damage, according to Muslims and some Catholic scholars interviewed.

    “I don’t think he did enough to apologize,” said Omar T. Mohammedi, a member of the New York City Commission on Human Rights.

    Ya know what, screw you guys. I’ve pretty much stayed away from this discussion, but this “Religion of Perpetual Outrage” crap really should end. Ya’all Muslims sound like a bunch of pussy-ass crybabies. The Pope was QUOTING another Pope from a few hundred years ago first off – how does that justify murdering an Italian nun? How does it justify the violence? How does it justify ya’all being angry about it two years later?

    He’s going to Ground Zero to speak – if ya’all are ashamed about Ground Zero, let’s hear some apologies. Apologize for the governmen-funded education that led to the act, apologize for the reaction in much of the Muslim world after it happened. And those “moderate Muslims” the Post writes about wouldn’t be moderates anywhere in civilized society. While the rest of the civilized world is expected to apologize for every perceived sleight against Islam, who’s demanding apologies from Islam for the atrocities that Muslims commit around the world?

    You say you want a dialogue – but that’s completely false – you want to dictate to the rest of the world how we should treat your backwards, inbred culture and how we should assuage your never ending outrage. If you wanted a dialogue, you’d make overtures without the preconditional apologies that never get accepted.

    Pound sand. If ya’all don’t want to be part of the civilized world, suffer the consequences.

    behead2.jpg

    Why don’t you get outraged over stuff like this, instead;

     Most of the boys — 90 percent, the study found — are sent out to beg under the cover of Islam, placing the problem at the complicated intersection of greed and tradition. For among the cruelest facts of Coli’s life is that he was not stolen from his family. He was brought to Dakar with their blessing to learn Islam’s holy book.

    In the name of religion, Coli spent two hours a day memorizing verses from the Quran and over nine hours begging to pad the pockets of the man he called his teacher.

    It was getting dark. Coli had less than half the 72 cents he was told to bring back. He was afraid. He knew what happened to children who failed to meet their daily quotas.

  • Obama, guns and beer

    Suddenly, Barak Obama is a good old country boy. The Washington Post reports that after touring a steel mill in Pennsylvania he headed across the street to soak up cheap suds with the guys;

     Obama and Casey emerged from the factory to find a crowd of about 30 people had gathered across the street at the Erie Beer Co., a local wholesaler. Apparently they had been waiting all morning.

    “The steel was interesting, but beer!” Obama exclaimed. The senators crossed the street. “What’s selling best right now?” Obama asked the group. “Bud Light!” most people responded. “We like beer,” Obama declared, gathering everyone around him for a photo with his buddy “Casey,” who as usual appeared to be having the time of his life.

    Yeah, I’m sure him and Michele sit around the house and drink Bud Light from cans while they watch reruns of “The World According to Jim”. Jeez, they’re just exactly like us, aren’t they? Naw, it’s an attempt to beat back the effect of his “Bitter speech”.

    This week, to prove that Obama’s bitter just like the rest of us, his campaign even announced that Obama belongs to a pro-gun group (The Washington Times link);

    The Obama campaign the next day touted an endorsement by the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), a national group that promotes some new gun control measures and describes itself as an alternative to the NRA’s “radical” gun rights views.

    Critics say the group is a front for the gun control lobby because it promotes outlawing some caliber of guns and certain types of ammunition and the abolition of firearm sales at gun shows.

    Actually, American Pundit says it’s much worse than that;

    Bob Owens [The Confederate Yankee] notes that the “American Hunters an Shooters Association” is actually run by a Daily Kos diarist. The diarist, Ray Schoenke, doesn’t exactly have a history of pro-gun rights:

    Schoenke, a failed Democratic candidate for governor of Maryland, has donated thousands to Handgun Control, Inc, a virulent anti-gun organization that was the forerunner of Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence. He has donated thens of thousands more to anti-gun Democratic politicians including Ted Kennedy.

    AHSA executive director Robert Ricker has testified as a paid witness against the gun industry and consults for several anti-gun groups, and John Rosenthal, President of the AHSA Foundation, is a former member of Sarah Brady’s Handgun Control, Inc, and is leader of Stop Handgun Violence, a Massachusetts anti-gun group that has contributed to that state’s intolerant anti-gun guns.

    Say Uncle has more on their background;

     When you follow the money, they read like a who’s who of gun grabbers. They are a front for the anti-gun Democratic Leadership Council so that anti-gun politicos can say they belong to a group that sounds pro-gun.

    Members (five of them that they disclose) of the AHSA are anti-gun lobbyists.

    They’re basically a shill group set up so that anti-gun candidates can try to woo the hunting crowd.

    So, try as he might to convince Americans that he’s just like the rest of us, Obama just can’t help but be what he is – just another elitist, gun grabbing Leftist.

  • Union thugs beat nurses in MI

    seiuprotest2250.jpg seiuprotest4230.jpg

    Gateway Pundit reported earlier today that hundreds of Service Employees International Union thugs busted up a Michigan nurses conference, forcing their way into the meeting and sending at least one to the hospital;

    When the chanting protesters entered, waving noisemakers, they and others quickly formed a double line in front of the doors, linking arms to block the way. Some participants were thrown to the ground by larger SEIUers. One protestor broke through the first line and, finding himself trapped between the two lines, flailed wildly. Former Labor Notes office manager Dianne Feeley, a retiree from American Axle, was pushed and fell, cutting her head, and was treated at an emergency room. Protesters continued to try to advance toward the doors, some nonviolently and others more aggressively.

    Hotel security and Dearborn police eventually made their presence felt. They made no arrests. After chanting “we’ll be back,” the protesters returned to their buses (according to hotel security there were six buses).

    The New York Sun reported that the SEIU denies the report from the staff of Labor Notes;

    SEIU officials disputed that account, but they acknowledged that a skirmish took place. According to their version, 800 members — mostly women — showed up at the conference for a peaceful protest.

    An Oakland judge has issued an injunction against the SEIU to prevent them from harassing members of the California Nurses Association stemming from the Michigan incident (SF Gate link);

    The two-week temporary restraining order by Jon Rantzman of Alameda County Superior Court names SEIU International President Andy Stern and requires that SEIU members keep 100 yards away from organizers of the nurses union, which is headquartered in Oakland.

    The order, issued Wednesday, followed a petition filed Tuesday by the CNA National Nurses Organizing Committee alleging that SEIU members violently disrupted a Michigan labor meeting Saturday attended by CNA members.

    The nurses’ petition also claimed that groups of SEIU agents have appeared at the homes of CNA leaders in the past week demanding in “a very loud, menacing fashion” that the CNA leaders come outside.

    The SEIU is the strike force for Democrats and the Left in general. They were bused into DC from New York City for at least one anti-war protest a year ago last January to boost numbers. I was unfortunate enough to be on one of their subway trains packed full by their wranglers whom I watched them prevent another private citizen from taking pictures of them in their garish purple attire. SEIU Nevada is being investigated by the Labor Department for irregularities in their own elections.

    The SEIU also sends protesters to Walter Reed every Friday night to harass the wounded troops returning from Iraq.

  • Car found with bomb and Iraqi cash in NM

    Gateway Pundit writes that a car was found in New Mexico containing a bomb and Iraqi cash and the odd story of how the thieves were discovered (from KOB.com);

     The car was reported stolen last week. After the theft, the car’s owner was fueling his motorcycle when he spotted his stolen car.

    “While he was refueling his motorcycle, low and behold, the vehicle that he had reported stolen that belongs to him happened to pull into the gas station area also,” said Los Lunas Police Captain Charles Nuanes.

    The car’s owner pulled the keys out of the ignition of his stolen car and the people in the car fled.

    But the oddest part of the story is that although the car found to contain an explosive device and Iraqi cash;

    FBI agents say that they have ruled out terrorism.

    Is that just the standard line from the FBI these days, or what?

  • Hoffa: Obama is Tiger Woods of politics

    Teamster Union president Jimmy Hoffa (the one whom we can locate) in an interview with the Washington Post called Barak Obama the Tiger Woods of politics;

    Hoffa, son of legendary Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa, who disappeared in 1975, said that since the 1.4 million-member union’s February endorsement, he has encountered little resistance to Obama on racial grounds, adding that he sees Obama as the Tiger Woods of politics. As “unusual” as Obama is, Hoffa said, he offers a huge opportunity because of his ability to draw millions of new voters and thousands of new donors.

    Now, there’s a direct comparison of the two mixed-race gentlemen. But on Tuesday when Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, while introducing John McCain to a group of Vetrans of Iraq and Afghanistan made reference to Tiger Woods, without even mentioning Barak Obama and the namecalling started, from Rochester, NY’s WGRZ;

    Batavia resident and Iraq war veteran David Bellavia says he’s not apologizing for comments he made at a rally for Senator John McCain.

    “You can have your Tiger Woods. We’ve got Senator McCain,” is the comment he made that some are now calling racist.

    At the very least, Canisius College political analyst says it makes you wonder what he meant.

    “You had to think what was he trying to say here?” Kevin Hardwick asked. “Obviously you think race because Barack Obama and Tiger Woods are obviously these guys of mixed race.”

    The video of Bellavia’s comments Tuesday;

    [youtube zek-Hbsqc48 nolink]

    So is anyone going to ask Jimmy Hoffa (the one we can locate) what he meant by the comment? Will the media drag out shocked pastors?

    “My children will emulate and admire people who risk their lives in the duty of their profession,” Bellavia explained. “Soldiers like John McCain, firemen, policemen, not sports figures and celebrities. That’s where I used Tiger Wood’s name.”

    Buffalo Pastor Darius Pridgen says he was initially shocked by the comments; but, upon further review, he says they were insensitive, not racist. At the same time, Pridgen doesn’t buy Bellavia’s explanation.

    “I think he’s just trying to explain away the obvious. That you linked up black heroes. Why didn’t he call out any other name?” Pridgen questioned.

    Look, if we have to change the way we talk these days, someone needs to send out a memo. If we can’t mention Tiger Woods, unless we’re Obama supporters, they need to vet the sportscasters. Are there any other mixed race people we need to avoid mentioning unless we support Obama? It seems to me they’re like land mines out there just waiting for us.
