I’m sure you remember Lt. Col. Gerald H. Green III in the picture above who was busted by folks when he was assigned as the commander of the Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning. Originally, he was busted for his Ranger Tab and his Sapper Tab. Investigators looked more closely at his uniform, according to the Army Times;
The investigation found Green hadn’t earned his Combat Action Badge or his Army Commendation Medal with valor device, wore air assault wings despite not graduating from air assault school, and “wrongfully certified his … personnel record that he had received the Expert Infantry Badge and a Presidential Unit Citation,” wrote the investigator, whose name was redacted.
I’m wondering, at this point, if he’s authorized to wear the buttons on his uniform. According to the article, Green claims that there was “a discussion of being put in for” a Combat Action Badge, so he just decided to pin it on. He dropped out of Air Assault School twice so I guess he figured that’s just like graduating from the very physical course.
The allegations against Green are being handled “through non-judicial and administrative action,” Fort Benning spokesman Gary Jones said in an email. “Charges under the UCMJ were not preferred against LTC Green. The Privacy Act precludes us from releasing the precise details of that action.”

Green remains on active duty at Benning, according to a spokesman with the National Guard Bureau. Details on his duty status were not immediately available, Jones said, and Green was away from the base the week of March 23.

Well, he called me yesterday. Hold your breath, because you won’t believe it…..but every other Oregonian/Californian in the world is suing me, so Tim is joining their hallowed ranks. Yup. Right before he hung up he said “See you in California court.” Which is awesome, because not only does California have a great anti-SLAPP statute, they went a step forward, and you can even slap them back. Now, I’ll likely end up with nothing, but it’s the ride that’s the fun part.

I said yesterday to some people that this guy is the worst person in the world. That might be hyperbole, but he’s certainly the worst person I can think of right now. I realize this video is long, but at least watch long enough to see what this guy did to his veteran employees.
Let’s start with Leatherby. When he says that the governor of California hates him, the immediate reaction from knowing that the guy lies incessantly is to assume that that also is made up. It may or may not be in this case. Leatherby was a sort of guest of the governor for a while, if you consider being incarcerated by the state, and then filing a frivolous million dollar lawsuit against the state. It seems Mr. Leatherby did time in the California Penal system, and alleges that it was because the state manufactured evidence against him, falsified documents and generally conspired against him. In a show of remarkable ineptitude he employed himself in the roll of attorney, and the judge eventually tossed the entire thing because he kept failing himself as a lawyer. (He neglected twice to actually serve the Defendants.) So off he goes to Oregon.
But his trail of disaster also branched out into Florida, where he allegedly scammed his father in law, a veteran himself, out of $15,000:
John Tillis is a Vietnam veteran, retired for 37 years. He says his son-in-law stole $15,000 from him.
“A Navy chief is usually pretty sharp. Maybe I’ve lost a little bit of it over the years, but I’m really embarrassed,” Tillis, from Cape Coral, said. “He can lie so good and he researches it.”
It all started with an idea and a plumping tool.
“He had planned he would assemble them up on the farm in Ohio using nothing but veterans,” Tillis said. The company is called Leatherby Tools, run by Tim Leatherby.
Leatherby told the former Navy chief he wanted to give back to those who served with him.

David sends us a link to MSN which reports that Eddie Routh’s lawyers have filed an appeal to his conviction in the murder of Chad Littlefield and Chris Kyle last week;
Routh’s attorneys said after the Feb. 24 verdict they would appeal. J. Warren St. John, one of Routh’s attorneys, said the notice of appeal was filed Tuesday. St. John also filed a motion for a new trial, arguing the conviction and sentence were contrary to law and evidence.
So, I guess that they’re going to continue to smear war veterans by claiming that Routh suffers from PTS that he caught in the arms room – he probably caught it from an improperly cleaned rifle that still had PTSD residue on it from a real firefight.
I mean, his lawyers admitted to the court that Routh killed Littlefield and Kyle, so that’s not the evidence that the lawyer is talking about. The only thing left is mitigating the murder with Routh’s diminished mental capacity. But, let’s just ignore the fact that he was blazing a doobie with his loving family right before he went to the range with the ill-fated pair. Not that smoking pot made him kill, but it’s indicative of his long-term, unchecked drug abuse.

If you’re a CIA analyst who talks to reporters, you might end up serving 30 months in federal prison or facing more. Even a reporter could end up being named a co-conspirator by prosecutors. But if you’re a decorated general, a former CIA director, and a former member of the Cabinet, you might get off with a $40,000 fine and two years of probation.

In Petraeus’s case, there was no proven harm to national security, but prosecutors said the type of breach he committed, especially from the head of the CIA, was serious enough to merit prosecution. His plea deal makes it easy for naysayers to think there’s a double standard on who gets a slap on the wrist and who gets sent to a cell.
The charge against Petraeus is Title 18 of the United States Code section 1924 which reads;
(a) Whoever, being an officer, employee, contractor, or consultant of the United States, and, by virtue of his office, employment, position, or contract, becomes possessed of documents or materials containing classified information of the United States, knowingly removes such documents or materials without authority and with the intent to retain such documents or materials at an unauthorized location shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.
(b) For purposes of this section, the provision of documents and materials to the Congress shall not constitute an offense under subsection (a).
(c) In this section, the term “classified information of the United States” means information originated, owned, or possessed by the United States Government concerning the national defense or foreign relations of the United States that has been determined pursuant to law or Executive order to require protection against unauthorized disclosure in the interests of national security.
It is punishable by a $100,000 fine and a year in prison, so a $40,000 fine and two years of probation sound pretty good. But, Petraeus also sentenced everyone under the pay grade of 0-3 to eight hours each of SHARP and SAEDA PowerPoint presentations quarterly.
The article claims that Petraeus wants to return to public life, he can do that, but not with my support. He may have been a good general, but the whole Broadwell thing shows that he has a propensity for poor judgement, so I’ll never trust him again.
You remember Ed Snowden, right? The fellow who leaked reams of classified documents to the media while claiming that he’d “begun” special forces training (he actually never finished Army basic training) before he became a spy for the media. Well, his lawyer says that he’s ‘ready to return” to the US;
“He is thinking about it. He has a desire to return and we are doing everything we can to make it happen,” Anatoly Kucherena….
Isn’t that nice of him? I wonder why he’s decided to return now.
Kucherena’s comments came at a presser where he presented a thriller loosely based on his encounters with Snowden.

Reuters reports that the fellow who we’ve been keeping an eye on since he deserted back in 2007, Andre Shepherd, must prove to the European Court of Justice that there war crimes committed in Iraq which provoked him to desert from his Army job and his upcoming second deployment as a depot helicopter mechanic.
That will probably be difficult for Shepherd since his work mates told us that they put him in charge of the dayroom, or whatever they call them these days. It seems that he was so incompetent, that even his POG buddies didn’t want him working at his POG job and they put him in charge of the fussball table in their recreation room during his first deployment.
Shepherd, who served in Iraq between September 2004 and February 2005 as an Apache helicopter mechanic in the 412th Aviation Support Battalion, deserted in 2007 after being ordered to return to Iraq. He applied for asylum in Germany, where he was based. He remains in Germany.
“When I read and heard about people being ripped to shreds from machine guns or being blown to bits by the Hellfire missiles I began to feel ashamed about what I was doing,” Shepherd told a news conference in Frankfurt in 2008.
“I could not in good conscience continue to serve,” the army specialist from Cleveland, Ohio, said.
Shepherd believed he should no longer participate in a war he considered unlawful and in war crimes he believed were committed in Iraq. He said he risked criminal prosecution in the United States because of his desertion.
Yeah, well, he will be prosecuted when he returns, but mostly because he broke the law. Shepherd tried to convince the German courts that he could be executed for deserting the military even though no one has been executed for desertion since 1945. He didn’t want to deploy because he was afraid that Jody would take his fraulein away while he was in Iraq. It had nothing to do with his conscience or the Iraq War.
Shepherd was a pot-smoking derelict living in his car before he joined the Army, so prison life will be an improvement for him.
