  • Lewis-McChord soldier stabbed to death

    You folks have been stuffing my inbox with the news of 20-year-old Tevin Geike who was stabbed near Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) when he was walking with a couple of his friends.

    From the Seattle Times;

    When one of the soldiers yelled back a comment about treating combat soldiers with disrespect, the car turned around and stopped next to them in a parking lot in the largely industrial area.

    Five men climbed out of the car, and surrounded the soldiers as the verbal confrontation continued.

    When the driver determined the men really were combat veterans, he summoned his passengers back to the car. As they were returning to the car, one them appeared to bump Geike, who fell to the ground as the car sped away.

    “It was then that they discovered the victim had been stabbed and was bleeding profusely. Geike died at the scene,” Lawler wrote in a news release.

    The video report is below the fold because I can’t turn off the autoplay;

  • SEIU astroturfs World War II Memorial

    Patrick Poole from PJ Media reports that he was there today when two more groups of veterans defeated the Park Police barriers at the World War Two Memorial. He writes that about an hour after the veterans entered the memorial some paid protesters from the Service Employees International Union swarmed the media that was there covering the veterans’ invasion.

    In the video below these protesters were marching towards the press gaggle and I was asking them to show their federal IDs to prove they were in fact federal workers. No one wore their federal ID and none would provide it to prove their claim.

    Then, remarkably, a guy carrying a sign passed by wearing a McDonald’s employee shirt, which I noted. I then began asking them how much they had been paid to protest, at which point the guy wearing the McDonald’s shirt came back and admitted he had been paid $15 to attend the protest.

    Here’s the video;

    The fellow who admits that he was paid a whopping $15 for his antics appears to have a fine career ahead of him driving a mop bucket. Poole adds that the group’s handler explained to him and Jake Tapper that the man worked at a McDonald’s in the Smithsonian. Regardless, they shouldn’t have been there hogging the lime light from the veterans who were the story, not a bunch of crybaby professional protesters taking advantage of the media’s presence for their political tantrum.

  • EPA “Secret Squirrel” Fraudster Pleads Guilty – and THEN Invokes the Fifth!

    Jonn wrote about the EPA’s Secret Squirrel fraudster, John-boy Beale, the other day.  He’s the guy who defrauded the EPA out of around $886k in unearned salary alone – plus over  $500k in “retention bonuses” – over a period of 13 years by claiming to work on “special projects” for the CIA.  He even managed to get a “special project” approved requiring extensive travel – then used that project to fund personal vacations.  The lying bastard “wonderful individual” even used government $$$ to travel first class due vice to nonexistent “back injuries”.  One ticket to London reputedly cost $14k (coach class for the same flight was about $1k).

    Beale’s lies included stolen valor.  He claimed nonexistent service in Vietnam (he only served stateside) and to have contracted malaria while serving there (he didn’t have malaria) – using the latter bogus claim to obtain a handicapped space at his EPA job.  (But remember – stolen valor is a “victimless crime”, right?  Yeah, right.)

    Beale pleaded guilty to fraud recently.  His plea deal stipulates that he pay Uncle Sam back just short of $1.4M and will spend between 30 and 37 months in prison.

    Beale was recently called to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.  The Committee wanted to ensure that his methods of defrauding Uncle Sam were well understood and weren’t being used by others.

    Beale invoked the Fifth Amendment and refused to answer questions.  His lawyer claimed it was because Beale’s “plea agreement did not require him to cooperate with lawmakers“.

    There’s really only two reasons I can see that anyone who’s already pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing for a Federal felony would piss off a Congressional Committee that bluntly.  One is that they’re simultaneously both monumentally arrogant and incredibly stupid.  The other is that they have something else to hide.

    Seems to me it might be a good idea for Federal LE to take a closer look at Beale’s friends/relatives/associates in the DC area (where he worked) – and in both SoCal and Mass, where he had relatives (SoCal) and a vacation home (Mass).  Sounds to me like there just might possibly be something else yet to be uncovered besides $1.4M of fraud.

    And while that’s ongoing, maybe the Committee’s lawyers should review Beale’s plea deal in detail.  I’m guessing it requires cooperation with Federal investigations – and Congressional Committee hearings would seem to qualify.  If so, then maybe the Committee should pursue a complaint on charges of Contempt of Congress against Beale.  An a new charge that could get him an additional 12 months behind bars might get his attention.

  • Contract killer vet

    Rambo Hunter

    Pinto Nag, Green Thumb and Gregg all sent us a link from NBC in regards to a contract killer and veteran, Joseph “Rambo” Hunter, I guess he gave himself the “Rambo” nickname. What a moron. He took a contract for a hit on a DEA agent from folks he thought were drug cartel members, but DEA agents themselves. Rambo had a team of four including another US Army guy and two Germans and a Pole.

    The cabal went to Thailand in March, the African nation of Mauritius in April, and the Bahamas in June to perform surveillance and soon signed on for a more nefarious undertaking: the murder of a law-enforcement officer, officials said.

    Hunter enlisted two of the men, German sniper Dennis “Nico” Gogel and U.S. Army veteran Timothy “Tay” Vamvakias for what he called a “bonus job” — a plot to murder a Drug Enforcement Administration agent and an informant in Liberia for $800,000.

    Visas and plane tickets were obtained, a submachine gun and .22 caliber pistols were ordered, and sophisticated Hollywood-style latex face masks, which could make someone appear to be of another race, were shipped to Africa.

    With Hunter “quarterbacking” the operation from Thailand, Gogel, 27, and Vamakias, 42, flew to Liberia earlier this week with plans to carry out the twin assassinations, Bharara said. By then, the DEA “had seen enough” and took them down, the prosecutor said.

    The article gives Hunter the dates of service from 1983 to 2004 and they say that he is “highly decorated” but it’s hard to imagine someone highly decorated through that period, unless they think that 7 Good Conduct Medals and two National Defense Service Medals is highly decorated. They quote the indictment as saying that he was “serving as a sniper instructor and senior drill sergeant” and that he “earned awards for expert marksmanship” while he was stationed in Puerto Rico 2002 – 2004, so I’m guessing he missed the whole war on terror. There wasn’t much opportunity to be “highly decorated” from 1983 – 2004, if he was in Puerto Rico 2002 – 2004.

    By the way, I “earned awards for expert marksmanship”, too. In fact, I’m pretty sure most of you did, too. It’s not a big deal to hit man-sized targets at various ranges 36 out of 40 shots.

  • Washington Post: Alexis had honorable discharge

    The Washington Post dug into Aaron Alexis’ past a little deeper today and it turns out that he did indeed have an honorable discharge;

    But the Navy clarified Tuesday that while the service had originally sought to kick out Alexis with a general discharge, those proceedings were moving slowly, and it was unclear whether the Navy had sufficient cause to push forward. So when Alexis applied on his own to leave the Navy in early 2011 with an honorable discharge, the service granted his request, the official said.

    The Post also reports that his military record was pock-marked with misbehavior;

    Alexis was cited at least eight times for misconduct for offenses as minor as a traffic ticket and showing up late for work but also as serious as insubordination and disorderly conduct, said a Navy official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the gunman’s personnel record.

    In addition to shooting the tires in Seattle, shooting the ceiling in Fort Worth, it seems that he shot through the wall in room in which he was living with his boss. But, you see, everyone let him off. If he had been prosecuted for just one of those incidents, he would have been unable to buy a gun. If the Navy had not given him an honorable discharge out of convenience, he probably wouldn’t have a contractor job.

    Police contacted him in Virginia and he told them that voices were coming to him through the walls and ceilings of his hotel rooms after a verbal altercation with someone on a flight from Virginia to Rhode Island.

    He always carried a gun and he always drank heavily and no one saw how the two could be a problem along with his breaks with reality. His actions yesterday were completely Alexis’ actions, he remains solely responsible for it. But there were signs that no one was willing to report or prosecute. There’s certainly no case for writing new laws here.

  • Stolen “Service dog” Valor

    There have been a growing number of articles these days about veterans being thrown out out establishments for bringing in their service dogs – I know because you guys send me the links to stories almost everyday. There’s an article in the Daily News today that probably explains why they’re getting tossed – some companies are capitalizing on the use of service dogs by making fake vests and tags for people who just want to take their dog out on the town with them;

    “Companies skirt the law,” [Robert Misseri] explained. “As long as someone says they have an injury, like PTSD, these guys are capitalizing.” Fake and imitation service dog vests can be purchased on eBay, ranging from $29 to $149.

    […]

    “People are going to restaurants thinking it’s cute to bring their boutique dogs to the restaurant,” the former narcotics agent, 61, [Jack Garcia] told The News. “It’s a trend that’s becoming worrisome, since service dogs were created for people who are in need of these animals, like the soldiers who put their lives on the line.”

    Garcia now volunteers for GOR, helping Misseri crack down on fake service dogs. He told The News that the practice is not only hurting veterans, it could hurt the public at large.

    Just like veterans’ valor being questioned, business owners are questioning the legitimacy of service dog claims – and like always, it’s veterans who suffer as result.

  • MD Rabbi Alam

    MD Rabbi Alam 1

    You might remember this guy from the picture yesterday of the poorly attended Million Muslims March. His name is MD Rabbi Alam and he’s the founder of the American Muslim Political Action Committee and lead organizer of Million Muslims March. He was indeed a sergeant at one time in the Army, but that’s not how he left the Army according to his FOIA;

    MD Rabbi Alam

    Apparently, towards the end of his career, he had a lot of problems and it looks like he got two or three Field Grade Article 15s (Non-Judicial Punishment) and busted all the way back down to E-1. You can read his statements in regards to his busts here, but it’s since mostly just from his side of the story, it’s not very helpful. It looks like he rode sickcall and the appointment mill and his unit got tired of it.

    It also looks like he did a five month tour of OIF in 2003 as a supply sergeant in an ADA brigade, not that it matters, but it probably needed to be pointed out. But, apparently, he’s run for political office, city councilman in Kansas City, Missouri trying to pass himself off as an honorably discharged sergeant;

    MD Alam Army Values Flyer 1

    I don’t even know if that’s legal, but it’s definitely a lie. If he liked that sergeant rank so much, he should have tried harder to keep it.

    Thanks to Pat for all of the research he did all day today.

  • “Artist” arrested for defacing 9-11 memorial

    Andy sends a link from The Advertiser about local artiste Salvador Perez Jr. who thought it would be cool to deface the 9-11 Memorial in Lafayette, Louisiana on, you know, 9-11.

    Police were notified at 8 a.m. Wednesday that two cardboard cutout images of crashing planes and former President George W. Bush holding a remote control had been placed on the 9/11 Memorial.

    The planes were marked “NWO,” a reference to the New World Order conspiracy theory — the Eye of Providence and the initials “NWO.” For some, this theory includes the belief that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by the U.S. government. Next to the monument was a cutout of Bush holding a remote control in one hand and a fist full of money in the other, police said.

    I’m sure his defense will be somewhere along the lines of the contention that his First Amendment rights supersede our First Amendment rights, because he’s an artiste, and the proletariat should just feel honored that he graced us with his towering intellect. Obviously the people of Lafayette, LA take their memorial seriously. It was dedicated on 9-11-02 and they put a lot of thought into it;

    The local monument is a smaller scale of both the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The structure includes three beams from the World Trade Center, limestone from the Pentagon, and soil from the Shanksville, Pa., field in which Flight 93 crashed.

    There’s video at Yahoo. Oh, yeah, he’s not an artist, he’s a vandal.
