  • Collins proposes gun deal

    Collins proposes gun deal

    Fox News reports that Susan Collins, a member of the Republican party and who represents Maine in the Senate, has proposed a bill that fulfills the whining Democrats’ cry for “do something” in the wake of the Orlando terrorist attack on a nightclub. She proposes offering the Democrats a chance to vote on a bill that restricts folks on terrorist watch-lists and no-fly lists from buying a gun and it offers those erroneously posted on those lists a way to restore their rights;

    The government’s overall terrorist watch list has 1 million people on it. Collins’ measure would let federal authorities bar gun sales to two narrower groups: the no-fly list with 81,000 people and the selectee list with 28,000 people. Selectees can fly after unusually intensive screening.

    All but a combined total of around 2,800 people on those lists are foreigners, who are mostly unable to purchase firearms in the U.S.

    Under Collins’ proposal, Americans denied guns could appeal their rejections to federal courts. The FBI would be notified if someone who’s been on the broader terrorist watch list in the past five years buys a gun, but could not stop the purchase.

    Due process is always a good idea.

    Of course, Dingy Harry Reid approves of the bi-partisan attempt at a compromise, but he still won’t endorse the deal, because it has Barely-a-Republican Collins’ name on it. Chuck Schumer thinks it’s an indication that the NRA losing it’s grip on the Senate GOP. Actually, there’s not much that the NRA could not like about the bill. I doubt Collins was ever in the NRA’s grip anyway.

    But, of course, the bill will fail because Democrats need a gun issue in November.

  • The “Rectification of Records” Continues

    Well, it appears that the Department of Justice will soon release a transcript of the conversations the radical Islamist terrorist bastard in Orlando had with police while he was murdering dozens of people.

    Sort of.

    You see, it also appears that the US Attorney General has announced that DoJ will scrub all references to the loathsome terrorist bastard’s religion, Islam – as well his declaration of loyalty to Daesh – from those incomplete transcripts.  Why?

    Well, I’m not sure.  But acknowledging this as an act of terror doesn’t seem to fit this Administration’s agenda.  And it does allow this       gang of political prostitutes who shamelessly use the deaths of innocents as political capital        Administration to use the incident to focus attention away from that fact and onto other unrelated issues.

    The Attorney General also stated that “a key goal of the probe was to determine why Mateen targeted the gay community.”  I guess knowing that is more important than facing the fact that it was an act of war committed by a supporter of radical Islamic terror.

    In fact, it seems to me as if they don’t want the American public to know the full truth – and are deliberately pulling out all the stops to mislead the public by hiding facts that are “inconvenient”.  But maybe that’s just me.

    Fox News has a good article this morning detailing the underhanded scam that DoJ’s pulling here.  It’s worth a read.

    The Rectification of Records continues.  Only this time, it doesn’t seem to be Orwellian fiction.

  • Bad Moon Rising

    It was dusk and the end of another hot day. Suzie-Q and I settled on the back porch to listen to the quiet. After a few minutes, we began to notice the fireflies lifting off from the grass. Seems there were more than usual. It is a spectacle that still fascinates old kids like us. With their tails momentarily ablaze, they would fly off into the growing darkness. Soon, all there was to see was an occasional small streak of light zipping by. It is calming to observe and admire such a natural occurrence without having a single thought and no feeling except calm.

    As the fireflies mostly burned out and went about doing whatever it is that fireflies do, a very bright full moon began to show itself through the tree tops further up the hill. That sight itself causes you to scoot a little closer to whomever you are sharing the view with. No words are required. But something ruined the moment’s serenity. From another time combined with the thoughts of the day, something popped into my mind. The words from a CCR tune, Bad Moon Rising.

    I see the bad moon arising.
    I see trouble on the way.
    I see earthquakes and lightnin’.
    I see bad times today.

    Last week, I sat down to write about the state of our Armed Forces. It is a topic I have been writing about for a long time. In July 2011, I wrote, I Remember Carter’s Army. After talking about some of the Commanders in Chief I served under during my Army Time, I concluded that by the time the Obama administration ended we may be longing for Carter’s Army. Well, here we are. In March 2012, not quite a year later I wrote, Just Another Vietnam, concluding that liberals (and frankly I probably need to amend that to read Washington politicians) were going to turn military successes in Iraq and Afghanistan into just another Vietnam along with abandonment and the rise of forces willing to fill mass graves. Well, here we are. Over the years, I wrote much about the many social engineering projects that are negatively impacting the force and with it readiness. Now we have added women to combat arms and soon to follow, trans-genders. With the cuts to our Armed Forces leaving them at pre-WWII levels or worse, we are sitting ducks. I never thought I would see the day when I, as an American, would necessarily ponder whether I am prepared to defend my family and my homeland. But, here I am.

    I did not write that essay, because I was a little angry with the Orlando attack and the response of the political hacks who call themselves our leaders. It is never a good idea for me to write when I am angry. Keyboards can be damaged and words sent out across the world wild net are there to stay. As time went on, the anger did not subside although my thought process may be a little more rational.

    We are in a Presidential election cycle. Although it seems like I have heard the words every single time there was an election, this one is certainly the most important in my lifetime. I will decide the fate of our nation.

    Sitting in the Whitehouse, we have a petulant little man who is also an Islam apologist. Just like all of the others, it was not a murdering Islamist that walked into the Orlando night club and killed 49 people. It was a rifle that did it. So instead of an all out war on ISIS, not a drone strike here and there that kills one cockroach that is replaced before the sun sets on the dead one, he declares war on semi-automatic rifles. We must get those “weapons of war” out of the hands of citizens. Do know what weapons of war are Mr. President? They are box cutters in the hands of Islamic terrorists intent on killing Americans and who succeeded in murdering 3000 non-combatants. All the terrorist murders were from Saudi Arabia to whose king you bowed. And there would have been more on that day if some Americans had not said “let’s roll.” And who is in the wings to replace you? Another wholly owned by the Muslim Brotherhood with millions of dollars paid into her foundation from at least 10 Islamic countries – where they execute homosexuals.

    And what do we have on the other side? We have a candidate who is a racist and bigot because he suggests a pause in Muslim immigration until they can be properly vetted. Members of his party are working harder to defeat him than they ever did to defeat the petulant one – the Speaker of the House the worst among them. I despise these knee-jerk hacks as much as I despise the idiots on the other side. I do not like it when people play with my life and the lives of my grandchildren. It is time for the adults to assume control. Either they come together with an inoculation for terminal cranial rectal inversion syndrome or we get another wholly owned Islam apologist, military hating, Marxist in the Whitehouse. And this one wants all of the guns. And she will get them with a majority progressive Supreme Court. And America is done. Understand that Republicans. Done! Let’s roll?

    Hope you got your things together.
    Hope you are quite prepared to die.
    Looks like we’re in for nasty weather.
    One eye is taken for an eye.

    Mitch Albom; Detroit columnist; scary black rifles are Nazi

    Mitch Albom

    Andy11M sends us a link to the Detroit Free Press to a column written by Mitch Albom in which he points out that Hitler and his Nazis created the first scary black rifles;

    The assault rifle traces back to Nazi Germany. Did you know that? The Germans were trying to develop a more effective weapon for their soldiers, one that rivaled the firepower of a submachine gun but had better accuracy in more confined spaces.

    Kill faster, closer in. That was the idea. Adolf Hitler, according to some accounts, even named the weapon: Sturmgewehr. It means “storm rifle.”

    Tuck that somewhere in the back of your mind. The first people to really utilize this weapon were Nazis. Not our forefathers. Not Thomas Jefferson. Not George Washington.

    Yeah, the Nazis also created the Volkswagon – they even named it the “People’s car”, but I’ll bet it doesn’t stop Albom from driving one to get his daily fat-free, glutten-free latte a lait. So, what exactly is his point? Well, it’s that defending the availability of scary-looking black rifles isn’t American – it’s 1930s National Socialist to want to own a scary-looking black rifle.

    In fact, you might ask, why even write about this issue at all? You’re just asking for abuse. Don’t believe me? Wait a few hours and check the comments. I’ll be called every name in the book, a moron, a bleeding heart, ignorant of firearms, many other juicy words.

    So why do it? Because, like many of you, my heart breaks watching these families bury their children and cry out for some kind of reform. And I guess I’d rather ignore criticism than ignore their tears.

    Yeah, the truth is that he just wants the attention that the Kuntzmans and the Steinbergs are getting this week for making outrageous claims about guns, gun owners and gun dealers. Albom is just another attention whore whose career is in the crapper and he thinks he can make a name for himself by claiming assault weapons are Nazi, hinting that those of us who own one are Nazis, too. And it’s all for the children.

  • Army may change sleeve policy

    Army may change sleeve policy

    Sleeves

    I know you’ve heard it before, but the Army Times says that you Army folks may be able to roll your sleeves up. The Times plays it like it’s some big issue that Army is caving to because of popular demand. But, seriously, who f’n cares;

    You’ve asked for it, and the Army has heard you.

    Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley on Thursday announced during a trip to Fort Hood, Texas, that soldiers will be able to roll the sleeves on the Army Combat Uniform.

    But don’t start rolling your sleeves just yet, Army officials said. Milley is calling for a 10-day pilot at Fort Hood with the intention of continuing it for the rest of the Army.

    Milley’s announcement is so popular that soldiers at Fort Hood are already rolling their sleeves, Army officials said.

    “Feedback from soldiers resulted in us wanting to do a trial over the next 10 days to see the feasibility of updating [Army Regulation] 670-1 and incorporating these changes in the future to give commanders flexibility in wear based upon their unit’s mission,” said Lt. Col. Jerry Pionk, an Army spokesman.

    Your pay won’t get a COLA that keeps pace with inflation, out-of-pocket medical costs are going up, the commissary is closing, your housing allowance is being cut, but hey, you can roll up your sleeves.

    You win!

    Yay!

  • Senates votes to register women for draft

    The New York Times reports that the Senate voted this week to register women born after the year 2000 for the draft after January 1, 2018;

    The shift, while fiercely opposed by some conservative lawmakers and interest groups, had surprisingly broad support among Republican leaders and women in both parties.

    The United States has not used the draft since 1973 during the Vietnam War. But the impact of such a shift, reflecting the evolving role of women in the armed services, would likely be profound.

    Under the Senate bill passed on Tuesday, women turning 18 on or after Jan. 1, 2018, would be forced to register for Selective Service, as men must do now. Failure to register could result in the loss of various forms of federal aid, including Pell grants, a penalty that men already face. Because the policy would not apply to women who turned 18 before 2018, it would not affect current aid arrangements.

    I’m against the draft, even though it probably does have a purpose in a national emergency, but, you know, if it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander.

    Jimmy Carter reinstituted the draft registration in 1979 to respond to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, just seven years after Richard Nixon presided over the last draft lottery. The hippies filed a law suit that they thought would end the selective service by demanding that women should be drafted, too, souring Americans on the whole idea (remember this was in the days of the Equal Rights Amendment).

    In 1981, the Supreme Court in Rostker v. Goldberg decided that since women were excluded from combat, there was no compelling reason for Congress to draft them. Well, that restriction has been lifted now that the social justice warriors have prevailed in the halls of the Pentagon.

    If the social justice warriors want equality, the good stuff comes with the bad stuff. It’s all political theater anyway – no one has been drafted since December 1972.

  • A seriously sissified shooting story

    I’m an old guy who grew up playing rough-and-tumble from an early age, fighting when necessary to maintain my place in the upper-middle of the testosterone-fueled hierarchy in my small southern town, a kid who couldn’t wait to get his first gun and go hunting and was later equally eager to learn the professional use of many lethal military weapons in combat against a deadly enemy. So it’s really difficult for me to believe that any man could publicly and apparently proudly proclaim himself to be such a totally emasculated milquetoast, and an ill-informed one at that, as New York Daily News reporter Gersh Kuntzmann has done with this error-filled hit piece on the AR-15 rifle – which was, of course, timed to take advantage of the atrocity in Orlando.

    If Kuntzmann has masochistic tendencies, then today he must be basking resplendently in the utter contempt and ridicule being directed his way from millions of American gun owners who read his article, opening with this sentence: “It feels like a bazooka – and sounds like a cannon,” about a lightweight sporting rifle that is so easy to handle that it is popular enough with teenage female shooters to be manufactured in hot pink Barbie versions. But an admittedly “terrified” Kuntzmann goes on to proudly parade his ignorance by inferring that such a weapon can fire a forty-round “clip” in less than five seconds.

    Barbie AR

    Right here I’ll wager Kuntzmann any amount he chooses that he can’t possibly fire forty rounds from an AR-15 in less than five seconds, because an AR-15 is a semi-automatic weapon, which requires the trigger to be pulled back fully to firing position for every individual round fired. Even with his pinky finger fully extended, Gersh just ain’t that good a gunner. He simply can’t operate that trigger that fast. By the way, you can always tell a liberal writer expounding on firearms because they invariably use the term “clip” rather than the correct term “magazine.” And, Kuntzmann, magazines are typically configured for 20 or 30 rounds, not 40, as anyone with minimal knowledge of firearms knows.

    But it is in the actual firing of the weapon that Gersh seriously sissifies himself:

    The recoil bruised my shoulder. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions – loud like a bomb – gave me a temporary case of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

    I gotta tell you, Kuntzmann, you had millions of American gun owners guffawing with that bit of hissy-fit histrionics. Thousands of teenage girls fire the AR-15 routinely, and they can tell you, the recoil is minimal compared to most sporting rifles. And those unbruised young ladies have the presence of mind not to let themselves become disoriented by those absolutely icky brass shell casings flying past as they steel themselves not to be overcome by the smell of destruction, whatever the hell that is, and the bomb-like muzzle blasts that gave you temporary PTSD, whatever the hell that is, and made you anxious and irritable for at least an hour.

    Good grief, Kuntzmann, don’t you have a clue what a complete pantywaist you have described yourself to be? It’s not just real men who are laughing at you – it’s real women as well.

    If there is a lesson to be learned from this silly bit of reporting it is that editors should not send silly twits to cover issues of which they have no knowledge or experience. Being the old politically incorrect dinosaur I am, I’d just say, “Don’t send a girl to do a man’s job.”

  • Harry Reid’s “Terror loophole”

    Harry Reid’s “Terror loophole”

    Harry Reid, that simpleton from Nevada, just issued a press release in which he calls for cheaper explosives or something;

    “Terror groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda are using America’s guns law against America. These murderers are calling on their radical followers to exploit loopholes. Why? Because firearms are easier to attain in America than making their homemade bombs.”

    Maybe the terrorists like guns because every time they use guns, Harry Reid and his crowd call for disarming Americans, to make the terrorists jobs easier – the terrorists win twice. Harry continues;

    Terrorist leaders are urging lone wolves to exploit our nation’s gun laws, buy assault weapons and murder Americans. But Republicans have blocked our every attempt to address the deficiencies in our nation’s gun laws. Last December, Republicans blocked legislation that would close the so-called “terror loophole,” which allows suspected terrorists to enter a gun store and legally buy firearms and or explosives – or both. Republicans also blocked legislation that would close the “gun show loophole,” which allows criminals and terrorists to purchase guns without having a background check.

    Maybe Republicans blocked the legislation because when you’re faced with a criminal, the dumbest thing to do is toss away your gun. Harry should ask his armed body guards about that.

    As I’ve said here before, I’ve bought guns at gun shows and went through the same background checks that I would have endured at a gun shop. The FBI says that they interviewed criminals as to where they had purchased their guns and less than 1% bought guns at gun shows. None of the guns used in the headline news stories about these “mass shootings” were bought at gun shows. The killers all avoided detection by the NICS system at gun shops.

    Democrats can wait no longer. We are going to demand solutions to our nation’s gun violence epidemic. On Monday, I stated that we would demand a vote on the terror loophole. That is our obligation. We must try at every opportunity to say to Republicans: The American people – not the NRA, not the Gun Owners of America – should be their obligation. There is no excuse for allowing suspected terrorists to buy guns.

    Yeah, Harry, the NRA and the GOA actually represent millions of Americans, while you want to disarm millions of Americans. But, yeah, strike while the iron is hot – you can’t afford to waste a tragedy.
