  • Nidal Hasan sentenced to Death

    FORT HOOD, Texas — Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist convicted in the November 2009 shooting rampage that left 13 dead and 31 wounded, was sentenced to death Wednesday by a military jury.

    Prosecutors had sought the death penalty, saying Hasan’s murderous rampage at the sprawling military base here left tragic and devastating loss for victims and loved ones.

    Hasan, 42, was convicted last week on 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 charges of attempted premeditated murder. He appeared expressionless upon hearing the verdict, which came less than two hours of deliberations.

    The death sentence required a unanimous verdict by the jury of 13 military officers. At minimum, Hasan faced life imprisonment. Still, while Hasan could be the first serviceman executed by the military since 1961, the appellate process could take years.

    Before an execution date is set, there will be automatic appeals at military courts for the Army and the armed forces, said Victor Hansen, a military law expert at the New England School of Law. Hasan could also ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review his case and file motions in federal court. Moreover, the president must eventually sign off on a military death sentence, which would be carried out by lethal injection.

    Family members of Hasan’s victims supported the sentence.

  • A Patriotic Portrait of Liberal Stupidity

    A Patriotic Portrait of Liberal Stupidity

    Most of us shake our heads in wonder at the insistence of Hollywood in making movies and television series that are so relentlessly politically liberal as to alienate nearly half their potential customers. In a business that rarely produces the Hollywood Blockbuster of old, an industry that constantly faces meager ticket sales and declining television ratings, common sense should dictate that it just might improve the bottom line if that industry would quit insulting the politics and beliefs of so many of its prospective viewers.

    But no, the disdain for conservative views and conservative people continues as in this picture now appearing at Breitbart and across the Internet just in time for our nation’s birthday:

    The Hollywood genius pictured is one Debbie Gilpin who plays a wrestler in a Netflix series, GLOW, about the 1980’s women’s’ wrestling scene in Los Angeles. Gilpin, whose wrestling and acting persona wears patriotic colors and is dubbed Liberty Belle, tweeted the image with this:

    Liberty Bell wishing the GOP a happy 4th! pic.twitter.com/DFd0rHfqhI
    — Betty Gilpin (@bettygilpin) July 4, 2017

    While most Hollywood liberals are content with just showing contempt for conservatives and their beliefs, Little Debbie, visibly demonstrating her limited math skills, takes it a step further in quite clearly saying “F**k off!” to a potentially huge segment of her television audience. A significant number, like yours truly, certainly intend to heed her instruction. It might behoove Gilpin to seek out the numero uno Republican for both some wrestling advice and tweeting tips.

    As a much more famous, and no doubt wiser, entertainer used to say, “What a maroon!”

    I haven’t paid a whole lot of attention to the twitterpating going on in the media, the WH or otherwise. But it appears to me that the liberal side of the journalistic bench is more interested in trying to destroy the United States government by bullying Trump than they are in reporting the real news.

    I think that part is quite plain. It’s six months into his administration and they still haven’t unseated him. It must hurt their feelings that they can’t bully him into leaving on a Friday. Filing and reporting fiction as news is merely one symptom of their spoiled brat behavior. They want to be in control, but are not, and they are showing us how butthurt they are about it. If you can’t see that, you’re not paying attention.

    I know how much the lefties despise him, and how much the lefty media really hate his guts. They’re as transparent as glass about it. But the leftist media don’t have to like him. A critic with opposing views is a legitimate stance. It’s as necessary to have critics as it is to have ‘all ahead full’ on the dial.

    In a free society like ours, the liberal media have the right, as observers, to criticize his policies and his rather boorish behavior. I wish he’d put a sock in it, myself. They don’t have the right to lie their asses off about him just to get attention and try to destroy his administration. It tells us how desperate they are to get rid of him by the use of verbal assassination and imaginary tales of villainy.

    He isn’t Richard Nixon. No matter how much they want to turn him into Tricky Dick, it ain’t gonna happen.

    Mr. Trump is a lot tougher than they are or could possibly imagine being. They think he’s as weak as they are. Unless I miss my guess, he’s laughing up his sleeve at them, and letting the rest of us know by all that twitterpating. Since I don’t do twitterpating, I miss that silly stuff unless someone posts it somewhere. He’s making very good use of their own weapons against them and they can’t stand it. It’s the ‘right back at ya’ response. It must hurt to be beaten at your own teenybopper gossipy little bitch game.

    The conniving by the leftist media to destroy Trump is a symptom of  their growing desperation.. If that weren’t so, would they be making up stories about him and those around him that are obvious fiction, or engaging so heavily in character assassination by publicly perjuring themselves?

    They’ve forgotten one simple rule that they should have learned, but ignored or dismissed: in a free country, freedom of speech and freedom of the press do not give them the right to lie about someone and state it as fact just because they hate him, especially when there are enough people watching their nonsense who can easily and quickly debunk it with real-world facts. Those who are checking and debunking leftist media’s reports are the curbstrap on the bit that gets the runaway horse’s attention.

    This is nothing more than grade school bullying by a bunch of little kids in adult bodies. Not one of them has had an original idea since they left 4th grade. They are stupid enough to believe their own drivel, and think everyone else is as stupid as they are, which is a massive failure on their part. Their ‘mob action’ is less about reporting than it is about being in the spotlight.

    I said several months ago, before the November elections took place, that at some point, the political pendulum had gone as far to the left as it could. I said it would start to slowly swing in the other direction. In physics, Newton’s laws of motion hold true. They also hold true in the political arena. I was right. When Trump was elected, the political pendulum began its swing toward the right and will eventually center itself.

    Remember the kid who cried ‘wolf!’?  The leftist media are doing a fine job of discrediting themselves with their antics and fallacious reporting. If they do enough fake news reporting, then when one of them stumbles across something real and reports it, no one will believe them.

    The leftist media are not paying attention to what is really important: the pending recession that I brought up yesterday. It can put a lot of overpaid people out of work, including them. And frankly, I would not mind seeing a long line of them bunched up behind each other at the entrance to a Depression-era soup kitchen, like those guys  lined up in the photo.

  • The death throes of journalism

    This last week, CNN finally admitted that they have been pushing the story about links between the president and Russia purely for ratings, not because of some calling to inform the public. When the story fell apart, they accepted the resignations of some of their employees in order to appear as if the network had been duped. So, at USAToday, Paul Schiff Berman writes that CNN should have stood by their reporters and producers;

    But should the three journalists involved have resigned? That seems pretty extreme given the type of error involved. After all, unraveling the financial dealings of Trump and his associates with various individuals connected with the Russian government is an exceedingly complex task that will undoubtedly take time and result in at least a few missteps along the way. As journalism professor Phillip Meyer has written, “A newspaper with a zero level of factual errors is a newspaper that is missing deadline, taking too few risks, or both.”

    […]

    That’s why CNN and all other media organizations now more than ever need to support their journalists. The White House is clearly coming after them, going so far as to label news organizations an “enemy of the American people.” So, correct errors where they occur, of course. But stand behind your people and send a message to this administration that you will not be intimidated. Democracy, at this moment of peril, demands nothing less.

    If I make even a spelling error here, I get pummeled, I can only imagine what would happen if I got a story completely wrong. But, then I’m not a journalist, am I? I do publish original stories, and if I want to continue doing that, I have to give you the truth, but I guess that’s why I’ll never be a journalist.

    Meanwhile, the President retweets a video that he didn’t create, that he snagged from Reddit user and CNN lost their mind.

    The original video was from a 2007 WWE encounter between Trump and WWE chairman Vince McMahon and modified by a Reddit user. Some CNN reactions to the video;

    CNN issued a fiery response on Sunday to President Trump sharing a doctored video of him beating up the cable news giant, saying the clip “encourages violence against reporters.”

    “It is a sad day when the President of the United States encourages violence against reporters.

    In this video, CNN’s Brian Stetler calls it “scary, dangerous”. Such hyperbole I’d expect from gradeschool playground tattle-tales trying to deflect blame from thier own actions – not professional journalists who have been involved in the systematic mistreatment of an administration elected by the People of the United States.

    From CNN Money;

    “It’s not just anti-CNN. It’s anti-freedom of the press,” CNN political analyst Carl Bernstein said on “Reliable Sources” on Sunday. “It’s very disturbing. There’s nothing lighthearted about it whatsoever.”

    CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post have been some of the president’s recent targets.

    On Saturday Trump tweeted that he wants to rebrand “Fake News CNN” as “Fraud News CNN.”

    Horseshit. What is disturbing is that the media has become the misinformation bureau of the Democrat Party. It’s also disturbing that CNN reanimated Carl Bernstein as if he has something relevant to say on the subject.

    The President followed his video retweet with this;

    Not holding my breath.

  • Military Judge Upholds Misbehavior Charge In Bergdahl Case

    Task and Purpose is reporting Col. Jeffery Nance, the military judge in Sgt. Bergdahl’s court martial, has denied a defense motion to dismiss the misbehavior before the enemy charge. They argue the charge doesn’t state a specific offence and should be dropped.

    Bergdahl was charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy by endangering the safety of his command by walking off a remote Afghanistan post in 2009, purportedly to alert higher ups with what he thought were serious leadership problems in his unit. He was captured and held by insurgents for five years before being exchanged.

    “We’re continuing to prepare energetically for trial on both charges,” said Eugene Fidell, Bergdahl’s civilian lawyer. “Where things stand is, this will be an issue on appeal if Sgt. Bergdahl is convicted on the misbehavior charge.”

    Prosecutors allege Bergdahl deserted his post without authority, causing search and recovery operations. In his ruling, Nance said the misbehavior charge does state an offense.

    “The accused is on fair notice that he must defend himself for leaving Observation Post Mest alone and without authority, thereby wrongfully causing search and recovery operations,” according to the ruling. “Certainly this notifies him that he has to defend himself from the charge that he has intentionally committed a series of interrelated acts before the enemy, which, even if not particularly proscribed by some other criminal statute, are without authority and wrongful and, thus, criminal.”
    “There is simply no way the accused could not reasonably have understand that his conduct was proscribed,” he wrote. “Furthermore, the alleged conduct cannot even be said to be ‘marginal’ misconduct. The government avers that the accused left his combat outpost intentionally, without authority and for the purpose of causing search and recovery operations, which he ultimately did cause. The specification alleges that all of this was done ‘before the enemy’. How could such alleged conduct be characterized as anything other than misconduct under any definition of the word?”

    The court-martial is scheduled to begin Oct. 23 at Fort Bragg. Bergdahl could face life imprisonment if convicted of misbehavior before the enemy.

  • USS Texas (BB-35) is in trouble.

    The USS Texas, the battleship that served in during World War One and on both fronts during World War Two, is not in her toughest fight yet.

    For the past few decades the Texas Parks & Wildlife staff and volunteers that take care of the century old dreadnought have been fighting against salt water, flooding and time to keep her above water. Recently things have taken a turn for the worse. In this case, when it rains, it pours.

    “The Texas is as old as the Titanic.The Titanic launched a month before the Texas,” said Bruce Bramlett, executive director of the Battleship Texas Foundation. “She’s been in the water for over a century and water always wins that fight — sooner or later.”

    Water poured in earlier this month, and officials say they can’t keep up with it

    In order to keep the ship sustainable for years to come, officials say it’s going to take $40 million. That is why they’re sounding the alarm now.

    This is not the first time the USS Texas has faced similar a crisis. But this time may need more then just another patch job, it needs to be put in dry dock. Unfortunately most of the funds and donations have only been able to handle buy time and not permanent solutions. Currently the dry dock is in phase two, but it is expected to be eighteen months before the plan is completed.

    “You can’t move this ship anymore,” Bramlett said. “We don’t want to reach the point where it’s just you have to cut her up right where she sits and haul her out of here on barges.”

    Battleship Texas officials say the state will have to put up $30 million just to scrap the ship, so they’re hoping they can raise the extra money necessary and get help from federal officials as well.

    The “S” word has me concerned and worried. I have been to the USS Texas as kid and as a father with my son. I have the USS Texas in my fleet for World of Warships. I first heard of the ships from shooting at coke cans advertising the aluminium recycling drive to help restore her back in the 1980s. So the idea that may have to be scraped is a signification event. So I wanted to acknowledge original message that I saw on Facebook, the that inspired me to make this post.

    If you want to help, please call the Governor’s (Greg Abbott) office at 512-463-2000 and tell them to appropriate the funds for a dry berth now. The state is going to spend $30M one way or the other (if scraping becomes necessary), so they might as well spend the money the right way. Call every day! Please share this with your other battleship fans…and CALL TODAY!

    So that is the message, help spread the word around.

    Save the battleship Texas.

  • Andrew Rosas; Fire bug burns flag – arrested

    Andrew Rosas; Fire bug burns flag – arrested

    Mick sends us a link to Fox News which reports that some little fellow set fire to a flag flying on Jim Tanner’s porch in Richmond, Virginia. At first the coward tried to untie the flag, but when that failed, he lit it afire where it hung – endangering Tanner’s wooden house;

    Tanner’s biggest concern was the man’s ignorance. The homeowner said front porch is made of wood and the fire could have damaged his entire home, had it spread.

    “He endangered my property, myself and my neighbors,” Tanner told WRIC. “These houses are 115-120 years old. They go up real quick. They’re tinderboxes.”

    I don’t think it was ignorance, it was more like malicious disregard.

    It happened in Richmond, Virginia, the former Confederate capitol.

    NBC12 says that 26 years old Andrew Rosas was arrested for the arson after he turned himself in to police.

  • Falling short is no reason to lie.

    I often think of those with whom I have served.  Too many men, better than I, fell short of completing their tour.  Injured in training, a family hardship, disease, and so much more.  Through no fault of their own, they fell short of their mark and returned home to no applause.   There are others of course, who made a bad choice and were sent out the gate with cause.  What becomes of those men who live with remorse and have to go on about their lives?

    Too often we find them reinventing past lives with badges and patches and pins…oh my.   But there are great men, better than I, who fell short of the finish line.  Do they live with remorse of what went awry, or do they stand up and hold their head high?

    To those who have served and think they fell short and never appear on our site, hold your head high you are a brother of mine, regardless of what you might think.  We should recognize those who fell short of their mark and silently live with remorse.

    There is no reason for that,  if they went on with life and did not embellish… that which they  knew was a lie.  They did more than most, and too many times, it could have been I who fell short… and went on to live with remorse.

    “There is no person so severely punished, as those who subject themselves to the whip of their own remorse.”
