  • Matthis in your school talking to your kids (Video updated)

    This is from a session Matthis had with high school students in Brattleboro Union High School in Brattleboro, Vermont [(802) 257-7335 131 Fairground Rd, Brattleboro, VT];

    Elaine Brower changed the settings on the original video so we couldn’t watch it, but, thanks to NotSoOldMarine who sent me a copy of the video, I put it back on YouTube and updated the description;

    Notice that he’s still allowing people to call him an “Afghanistan veteran” without correcting them. I wonder what parents would say if they knew a drug-addled, admitted rapist was in their schools trying to influence their children.

  • SEAL clubbers

    Stars & Stripes/Associated Press writes about some of our friends today – the guys who expose phoney SEALs.

    A retired Navy SEAL from Virginia who devotes much of his time to outing the phonies said he’s receiving 40 to 50 inquiries a day from people suspicious of claims by friends, neighbors or colleagues who say they’re SEALs. Their doubts are usually confirmed with just a few checks.

    The Naval Special Warfare Command also receives a steady stream of inquiries about possible SEALs, the vast majority of which are debunked, said Lt. Cate Wallace, spokeswoman for the command in California.

    And Larry Bailey, a retired SEAL from Chocowinity, N.C., estimates he and friends who are former SEALs have exposed 35,000 phonies through the years.

    “There were about 500 SEALs that operated in Vietnam, and I’ve met all 20,000 of them,” Waterman joked.

    In fact, I just contacted Larry Bailey the other day when one of you sent me a link to a guy who claimed to be a SEAL. Captain Bailey confirmed the guy was legit saving us some embarrassment. That’s happened several times over the years.

  • Matthis wants to slap you for saying you’re non-violent

    Matthis is such a giant pussy he won’t even threaten you to your face;

    Somehow, Matthis thinks that all Americans are violent because we pay our taxes, yet he remains morally above the rest of us while he uses tax-payer-funded VA benefits.

    I wonder how he explains this picture of him pretending to be a real GI Joe firing blanks through a machine gun;

    I got that picture from his Facebook profile. I think the next time I hear Matthis call himself an Afghanistan veteran, I’m going to slap the shit out of him.

  • Phony SEAL pastor in PA fools media

    Penn Live went out to get the story on local SEALs after the bin Laden assassination last week, and unfortunately for them, they did an interview with a local pastor who had been claiming for years that he had been a SEAL during the Vietnam War. Today they admit their mistake, but they don’t take responsibility for their error;

    The Patriot-News regularly interviews veterans to tell their stories. We do not regularly ask those we interview for proof of their service, believing these men and women would not lie and dishonor those who have fought bravely defending our country. Unfortunately, this time we were deceived, and we will discuss steps to try and ensure that it does not happen again.

    An honorable person has no reason to lie, however a dishonorable person will lie every time they’re asked a question. A real veteran has no problem proving their claims, as I’ve done countless times without being asked usually.

    PennLive still has the initial article up with the disclaimer. But if they had done their due diligence in the first place, they wouldn’t have to admit to their failures. They had to be told by their readers that Moats had lied to them.

    So what do they do? They write an article about the phonies and how hard it is for phonies to ply their trade in the age of the internet;

    The FBI estimates that for every true Navy SEAL, there are 300 impostors.

    One was on the “Dr. Phil” TV show in March, claiming that being a SEAL ruined his life. Another is on death row in Florida. Actress Halle Berry was stalked by a phony SEAL. An impostor named Charlie Andrews has an upcoming reality show about jousting.

    If it’s so hard for phonies, why aren’t journalists doing their job and asking for some proof?

    In Moats’ case, [TAH buddy, Don) Shipley knew hours after the story was published — before the newspaper was aware — that this was another case of fraud.

    “They’re weird. They have a mental problem, it’s as simple as that,” Shipley said. “They’re not quite right. … A long, long time ago, I’m sure there were a lot of guys who claimed to be in Valley Forge with George Washington. This is the new thing.”

    Why did Shipley know before the journalist? Because Don does his job. I’m still waiting for a journalist to ask me why one State which has 15 DoD-recognized POWs living there is paying POW benefits to more than 600 to the tune of $36k/year.

  • NV rep’s proposed Stolen Valor Act changes

    Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev. proposed changes to the federal Stolen Valor Act in order to curtail the burgeoning number of phonies and to get around the Ninth Circuit’s freedom of speech blather(from the Las Vegas Review Journal);

    The bill adds a section to the existing law that makes it an offense for anyone who, “with intent to obtain anything of value, knowingly makes a misrepresentation regarding his or her military service.”

    “If the misrepresentation is that such individual served in a combat zone, served in a special operations force, or was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor,” then the offender will be subject to a fine, a year in prison or both, states the measure, which has 31 co-sponsors.

    I think the “obtain anything of value” is arbitrary. What is value?

    If you get laid because you lied to a chick in a bar who wouldn’t have otherwise slept with you if you hadn’t told her you were a door gunner on the Space Shuttle, did you receive something of value?

    In the case of Rick Strandlof, reportedly, he didn’t profit from his lies, but he became a hero in the anti-war community – was that of any value to an otherwise anonymous dork?

  • Iowa governor signs “Stolen Valor” Law

    This bit of news from Iowa;

    Gov. Terry Branstad on Thursday signed into law legislation that creates a criminal offense for anyone impersonating a decorated military veteran with the intent of deceiving others for monetary gain.

    The so-called “stolen valor” bill makes it a criminal offense to impersonate a decorated military veteran with the intent to deceive another person for the purpose of any real or anticipated monetary gain.

    The new crime is a serious misdemeanor punishable with a fine of at least $315 but not more than $1,875 and up to one year in prison. S.F. 397 defines a decorated military veteran as a former member of the U.S. armed forces who has been awarded any medal, decoration, badge, ribbon or button authorized by Congress or a military branch for meritorious service but struck language creating criminal offenses for falsely claiming receipt of certain military medals or decorations.

    Good on Iowa. Other states like Nevada are also pushing their own stolen valor laws through their legislatures. New Zealand and Australia are also contemplating laws to combat phonies.

  • Where Did All the Anti-War Protestors Go?

    John Stossel asks the same question that we here at TAH have been asking since 2008 “Where Did All the Anti-War Protestors Go?“;

    …the war in Afghanistan ramped up after Obama was elected. American fatalities shot up in 2009 and 2010.

    The protesters have remained silent over Libya.

    And I’m struck by the hypocrisy of the supposedly “anti-war” politicians who voted against Iraq, like Nancy Pelosi. Since Obama was elected, she has voted to continue the war in Afghanistan … and supported the attack on Libya.

    After the anemic Code Pink/IVAW/ANSWER protest in March of 2008, we asked where the protesters have been. It seems that they weren’t really anti-war at all, but more anti-Bush. The fact that the Geezers For Sitting On Our Hands (VFP) are still trying to impeach Bush (and Nixon apparently) more than two years after he left office is proof.
