Apparently the dickweed is now claiming he served in Vietnam, too.

We discussed John Spodofora, Stafford, NJ mayor here, here and here in the last few weeks. During his press conference last week, he announced that he was withdrawing from the upcoming election. But I guess he figures four days is long enough;
In an email to club members Friday night, the Republican club’s screening committee said it was notified Thursday evening by Spodofora that he had withdrawn his request for the club’s endorsement in the November election.
Before the vote on his nomination Monday, the club’s screening committee approved Spodofora’s endorsement 5-2.
The full club membership overwhelmingly approved Spodofora, who was the only candidate nominated by the club to run in the June 5 primary election for mayor.
Yeah, because all politicians lie, this one just happened to get caught. That’s why the Republican Party is advancing this particular liar to the ballot box. It was only lies that he used in his campaign for office, so what’s the big deal? It’s not like he’d lie to voters and constituents about anything else, right?
I hope the voters are a little bit brighter than the “Republican Club”.
Sparky sent us a link to an article in SeaCoast Online about Robert McDowell, who was discharged from the Navy for faking his award of 3 Purple Hearts for service in Vietnam and during the Gulf and pretending to be a doctor so he could get prescription medication. Apparently he used a tenant’s name, the tenant being a Marine deployed to Afghanistan, to write politically-charged letters and to endorse McDowell’s girlfriend to political office;
Police allege McDowell used [Paul Mahoney]’s name and old cell phone number on letters he wrote over a two-year period, urging recipients and readers to close Fire Station 3 and to cut the school, police and fire budgets.
When contacted by police, Mahoney said he “has never given anyone permission to write under his name,” according to a police report.
“I would like to see full charges be punished,” Mahoney is quoted by police.
So, like our buddy Doug Sterner says, Stolen Valor phonies always commit other crimes and they all bear watching.
Ok it has been awhile but I figured that this was worth the time. Granted with the poser bar being raised on a daily bases, I am not sure it will have the same “Shock and Awe” as some of our others phonies. But it should be enough to give a general WTF theme going on here. I present you newest Wedding Poser: Daron Soard.

Ok, lets see. Here he is wearing a Ranger Tab on BOTH shoulders. His Rack is completely out of order. In there I see a Afghanistan Campaign Medal, but no Combat Stripes on the right arm. Also according to his Facebook page he is a Scout and is Airborne certificated.
POWNETWORK have been following him since October of last year. But I considering the photos of his way out of regulation uniform would be worth writing about.
Update:Seems that he also has a criminal history too.
Our buddy, Don Shipley, phony-SEAL clubber and a former SEAL himself, thinks he’s struck on the perfect legal weapon with which to put an end to the phonies which have multiplied over the past few years. Shipley owns “Extreme SEAL Experience“. Shipley and his lawyer, Gene Odom have filed their first law suit against Barry “Bear” Silverman, who runs a business called “Tactical Deterrence”, Apparently, Silverman is a phony SEAL according to POW Network and uses that lie as part of his business model. Shipley says the fake SEAL is hurting his business;
Shipley, a 24-year Navy veteran, spent 19 years as a SEAL before retiring in 2003 as a senior chief petty officer. The suit says his business is being harmed by men falsely claiming to be SEALs; it also claims Silverman is using the likeness of the SEAL trident without permission.
“The number of new customers has decreased as a result of prospective customers associating the quality of plaintiff’s business with the Defendant’s illegitimate knockoff,” the suit claims.
So whether the Stolen Valor Act passes muster or not at the Supreme Court is irrelevant – the phonies will get their comeuppance either way. By the way, the Tactical Deterrence website is down, so the lawsuit is having the desired effect.
Thanks to the two bazillion people who sent me the link.
Average NCO sent us a link this morning as well as forwarding it to POW Network, Captain Larry Bailey and Don Shipley. The link is to an obituary of one Daniel L. Newman who claimed the following;
Danny retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer 4th Class. He proudly served the country he loved in Vietnam on Seal Team 3 (Class 151). During his career in the Navy he received 7 Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars and 2 Silver Stars.

All three phony hunters responded that Newman was FOS. Captain Bailey responded;
If it were a simple matter of his falsely claiming to have been a SEAL, I’d say let it go, but TWO Silver Stars? Give me a break! And Class 151 graduated in June 1988. And Team 3 wasn’t commissioned until 1983.
Mary says that she’s already filed the FOIA paperwork in early March when Don Shipley first brought it to her attention so we’ll have that shortly.
So the victimless crime of Stolen Valor claims another family whose dearly departed leaves them the last memory of him as a liar.
We mentioned secret squirrel, John Spodofora, the mayor of Stafford Township, NJ earlier this month. He’s been sticking to his guns that he’s a Vietnam Veteran and his records are classified. Yet, here, they are;
Funny, no Vietnam Service medals.
From the Press of Atlantic City;
“I’m in a tough spot of violating military security because of the questions I am being asked. Right now, I feel like I’m being punished because I volunteered for a classified Naval position and these missions, knowing I couldn’t disclose certain things,” Spodofora said.
Yeah, he couldn’t disclose “certain things” yet he can post it on his campaign website.
The Republican mayor said he plans to address tonight, at Township Council’s 7 p.m. meeting, what he calls false accusations leveled against him by township Republican Club president and former township employee Martha Kremer. He says he won’t be able to tell everything, because many of his records remain classified.
Martha Kremer is the widow of a REAL Vietnam veteran who served in the 173rd Airborne, but she’s being made the target instead of this phony baloney airhead dickweed, whose email address is John.Spodofora@twp.stafford.nj.us. I noticed that his official website has been changed from describing him as a Vietnam Veteran to a Vietnam Era veteran, which is what his records show.
But all of the talk about him being a “spook” is ludicrous.
Here’s his assignment records. The only things that have been blacked out is his personnel evaluations (that’s not FOIA info). Click to enbiggenate;

NSOM sent us a link that’s about a month-and-a-half old from Poynter.org in which they reported on how Leo Webb, the sniper/baseball pro, got his fabricated story on the air. We first wrote about Leo when two observant readers heard his bullshit story on their local public radio station. Then again when the media outlet took the story down.
But the Poynter folks went back and asked the producers at Marketplace and KQED how Leo slipped through their obviously rigorous vetting process. Basically they answered what we expected they would; he said the things we wanted to hear;
“We have a mission and big push on right now to make sure that voices that aren’t always heard on public radio are heard,” he said, noting this can include people who are marginalized or disenfranchised by society.
Deborah Clark, the executive producer of Marketplace, said her program also has a goal to “bring in a diversity of voices that aren’t heard very often.” (Walton and Clark also spoke with Erik Wemple today.)
This drive to find untold or ignored stories helped Webb get on the air. Clark said in the case of her program, Webb’s tale “didn’t receive the standard editorial vetting from us that it should have.” She said it would be standard procedure for the program to contact the military to verify Webb’s claims prior to airing his words. That didn’t happen.
Walton said KQED also didn’t contact the military prior to airing the piece, nor did it check any databases of minor league baseball players to confirm Webb’s account that he played Double A ball for the Chicago Cubs.
“There is a [vetting] process and part of it is that the person does work worth the editor of the piece quite a bit, so you generally have an idea that person is who they said they are,” he said.
Yeah, there is a “big push” for “a diversity of voices”. That’s a good excuse. In other words, we’re in a hurry to push the “crazy vet” image on the public and we’ll put anyone on the air who facilitates that meme.
Just looking for the shitbag on Facebook might have raised a few flags, since the only mention of the military on his page is the fact that he likes NCIS, but he lists the two semesters he spent at community college.
So Marketplace got their “diversity of voices” that they were seeking. A lying POS poser. And just because he’s a lying POS poser outed by people who would recognize a lying POS poser when they see one, there are still people out there who would prefer to believe him. Why let the truth get in the way of a generally accepted meme.
And clearly others are disappointed that his story isn’t true.
