  • The war? That old thing.

    The Stars & Stripes reports that, even though Americans have stopped paying attention, there’s still a war going on.

    More than a decade since the U.S. launched Operation Enduring Freedom on Oct. 7, 2001, there are still 54,000 American troops in Afghanistan. That is more, by far, than at any time during the first seven years of the war, yet these days, they garner scant news coverage. Most recently, Syria’s civil war and the use of chemical weapons as well as the federal government shutdown have buried Afghanistan news, even as Americans continue to die — four were killed within a week in so-called insider attacks just at the end of September.

    “There is a bloody war happening, and no one is talking about it,” said Ahmad Majidyar, an Afghanistan expert at the American Enterprise Institute and a frequent adviser to the U.S. Army.

    The U.S. role is diminishing and casualties among members of the U.S.-led international coalition are down as the Afghan security forces take over more of the fighting. But Americans are still fighting — and dying.

    Yeah, well, who can expect us to know all of that without Code Pink stomping their angry little feet in front of the White House daily? Code pink is more concerned with helping Iran build their nuclear program and wiping out Israel than any war their President is fighting. IVAW, the anti-war group who complained daily about the war in Iraq and then shifted focus to Afghanistan when they started being irrelevant when Iraq left the front page are now more worried about Syria and poor little traitor Chelsea Manning than the 102 soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan this year.

    Public ambivalence about Afghanistan stems in part from the failures of the past few years, which, despite the surge of foreign troops, saw a sharp rise in casualties; violence remained above the pre-surge levels after the additional forces left, Smith said.

    “The short attention span of the West is such that if the problem hasn’t been solved by now, maybe they figure it’s unsolvable, which is too bad because I think what Afghanistan needs right now is continued engagement,” [Graeme Smith] said. “In a lot of ways, a lot of Afghanistan’s future depends on whether Western nations feel guilty enough about the mess they made to stay involved.”

    Yeah, well, “the failures of the last few years” happened because before the surge in Afghanistan even began, this administration was making plans to withdraw. The President wouldn’t give the generals the number of troops they asked for, despite CIA and DoD predictions that what is happening would happen, and now because the president’s compromise staffing has failed the country, failed the troops who served in Afghanistan, he doesn’t want to talk about, the pliant media follows suit, and it all falls off the national radar.

    “The mess they made” can be laid at the feet of this Administration and it’s failure to make any commitment to destroying our enemies. A scant few months ago, we were told that al Qaeda has been “decimated”, yet we see evidence of the fact 13 years hasn’t even put a dent in their activities. We were told that the drone program has limited them, but the last few weekends have been full of news of al Qaeda.

    It’s war as a campaign platform, with a real cost in lives and national security that doesn’t seem to matter to anyone. It’s a serious lack of leadership.

  • Kokesh gets ripped off by hippy pals

    One of our ninjas sent us a video, you probably don’t want to watch. It’s Kokesh’s girlfriend Carey who has the most irritating Valley Girl voice, but the most important part of the video is her announcement that someone ripped off Adam’s defense fund.

    So, who knew that hippies rip each other off? Yes, Kokesh is still in jail learning his lesson that there are limits to what the DC government will accept when it comes to civil disobedience, and loading a shotgun a couple of blocks from the White House seems to be outside those limits. I tried to tell him.

  • Kokesh rots in jail

    One of our good friends sent us a link to the Washington Post which announces that Judge Patricia A. Broderick has denied bond for IVAW member Adam Kokesh yet again citing the fact that he violated a bond on previous arrest a few weeks before his latest arrest.

    Kokesh, 31, has been jailed since his July 25 arrest, after he posted a 23-second video on YouTube of himself apparently loading a shotgun in Freedom Plaza on July 4.

    He requested a change in his no-bond status during a hearing Aug 13.

    In her ruling, Broderick also cited that Kokesh had no verifiable employment and authorities found several weapons and illegal drugs inside his Herndon home.

    I guess being an itinerant hippie has it’s down side. The DCist reports that whoever is keeping Kokesh’s Facebook page assures us that Kokesh is in “high spirits”.

  • CBC recommends Sheila Jackson Lee for DHS

    DSC_0010

    Yes, you read that right, the Congressional Black Caucus has recommended Sheila Jackson Lee to the President to fill the gap that will be left when Janet Napolitano leaves her post as the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, according to an article sent to us by ROS from the Washington Times;

    A letter dated July 25 and signed by Rep. Marcia Fudge, Ohio Democrat and caucus chairwoman, urges President Obama to consider Miss Jackson Lee for the position, calling the Democrat a “voice of reason” that the agency could stand to gain, the Houston Chronicle reported.

    “Representative Jackson Lee would serve as an effective DHS Secretary because she understands the importance of increasing border security and maintaining homeland security,” the letter reads.

    Yeah, because she thought her home planet, Mars, was where the Apollo mission left a flag, so she knows a lot about geography and borders and stuff. I think she complained because there weren’t any hurricanes with names of African-American women. Whatever that means. So she really has the important issues at the top of her agenda.

    Personally, I learned while living in DC, if a woman spent more time on her hair than she did in the gym, there’s some drama coming.

    By the way, the above photo is an actual TAH file photo. I took it when the IVAW was trying to convince Congress to defund the war in Iraq in 2008 – she was one of their greatest defenders, so yeah, she knows all about homeland security.

  • Detention hearing for Adam Danger (Updated)

    A DC judge has decided that our buddy, Adam Kokesh, is a danger to the community and he’s been confined for three days awaiting a detention hearing, according to CNN;

    District of Columbia Magistrate Judge Lori Parker said Kokesh “poses a danger” and went “out of his way” to violate the district’s laws.
    2012: F-bombs attack anti-swearing law

    Kokesh’s attorney, Peter Cooper, said after the appearance in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia that his client is making a “political statement,” but argued the government is doing the same thing.

    “Their allegation about danger, I believe, is unwarranted,” Cooper said.

    It’s been my experience that if a person doesn’t want to be treated like a nut, they shouldn’t act nutty.

    From the Washington Post;

    The judge said he found “probable cause” that Kokesh did violate the District’s gun laws. ”I consider your client a very dangerous man,” Sullivan said. “You don’t make a political statement with a gun.”

    The hearing often became contentious as Cooper and Sullivan argued. At one point, one of Kokesh’s friends sitting in the audience was ordered out of the courtroom.

    Yep, that’s how you get a sympathetic hearing for your client – argue with the judge, that always end well.

    UPDATE: Chip sends us a link to the DCist which reports that Kokesh was denied bail today.

    A D.C. judge called Adam Kokesh a “very dangerous person” in denying bond to the gun rights activist on a charge stemming from a video Kokesh posted in which he appears to load a shotgun while standing on Freedom Plaza.

    I’m sure your lawyer can get in another argument with the judge and get you thrown in the hole, Adam. He’s due back in court on August 13th. Remember to sleep on your back, Adam, otherwise, it’s just an invitation.

  • Kokesh goes to court in DC

    According to the Washington Post, Adam Kokesh is currently in the custody of the DC police to answer charges that he had a loaded shotgun in the District for the video he posted on line on July 4th.

    The spokesman, Bill Miller, said Kokesh is expected to be arraigned in D.C. Superior Court Friday afternoon. Court documents show that Kokesh is being charged with one count of illegally possessing a shotgun related to the video.

    By the way, The Post calls Kokesh a Libertarian. Obviously, they don’t know the difference between a Libertarian and a Libertine/Anarchist.

    According to WTOP;

    Kokesh was allowed to post bail and leave jail ahead of his trial for felony drug charges in Fairfax County. Bond was set at $5,000.

    I hope he got that money from his hippie buddies. They deserve to be separated from it.

    The Post reports that a shotgun wasn’t the only weapon they found in Kokesh’s house;

    The court documents say police found nine other guns in the house, including rifles and semiautomatic handguns.

    Well, and some mushrooms. With gun such a hot button issue, I wouldn’t recommend anyone try to be the Gandhi of gun rights. While I disagree with the laws in DC, you’ll never see me carrying a weapon there. When I go to the range in Maryland, I never take weapons that are illegal in Maryland – it’s all part of being a responsible gun owner.

    Someone posted on Kokesh’s blog;

    “These costumed thugs ransacked Adam’s home, and committed numerous civil rights violations in the course of their dubious search- both against Adam and the members of his crew who were present at the time. The officers would not identify themselves, and had covered their badges and name tags.”

    Yeah, because they’re so scared of Kokesh and his minions.

    Thanks to Chief Tango, Chip and Jerry920 for the links. And screw you Washington Post for limiting my access to your stupid paper. I didn’t pay for a subscription when I lived in DC, why would I pay for it now?

  • President Adam Kokesh; letters from Fairfax Jail

    WTTG Fox5 in DC interviewed Adam Kokesh in his Fairfax County, VA jail cell.

    Surprisingly, Kokesh says the drugs found in his house when it was raided the other day weren’t his and, of course he says the drugs were planted by police. I guess he figures that might work against him during his upcoming presidential campaign;

    In an exclusive jailhouse interview, Adam Kokesh denies any connection to the drugs. Here is part of the transcript of that interview with Kokesh: “If they found a stash of magic mushrooms in my house, they were not mine. ANY IDEA WHOSE THEY WERE, OR WHY THEY WERE IN YOUR HOUSE? I’m pretty confident that, whether or not they found anything, the full paper bags that [U.S. Park Police] brought into my house would insure that they had charges to bring against me. ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT THOSE DRUGS WERE PLANTED? Yes.”

    Kokesh, who has been arrested several times before by U.S. Park Police, says that agency has a “vendetta” against him, but he believes the evidence in the drug case is weak.

    Federal officers have now filed a weapons charge against Kokesh for wielding the shotgun in D.C. on the Fourth of July. Here’s more of the interview: “WAS IT A REAL SHOTGUN AND WERE THEY REAL SHELLS GOING INTO IT? Yes. ON THE VIDEO YOU POSTED? Yes. YOU DID KNOW THAT WAS ILLEGAL IN D.C.? It’s called civil disobedience.”

    Well, people get jailed for “civil disobedience” all of the time, that’s why it’s called disobedience.

  • That ‘shroom eating gun nut is on the street

    One of our friends sent us a link to the latest news on Adam Kokesh who was busted for loading a shotgun on the streets of DC and for having “Medicinal” mushrooms in his apartment is out of the hoosegow on $5000 bail according to the DCist;

    The outspoken gun rights activist Adam Kokesh is out of jail on $5,000 bond, but a Fairfax County judge has ordered that he await trial under a condition that might come as difficult to him…[Kokesh] was prohibited from possessing guns pending the completion of his case, WJLA reports. The 31-year-old former marine was also placed on pre-trial probation, and will next appear in court on Oct. 2 for a preliminary hearing.

    […]

    Kokesh had spent most of the past week in Fairfax County lockup following his arrest last Tuesday night by Herndon police. At hearings last week, Kokesh refused to answer a judge’s questions or submit to fingerprint scanning and a photo, thus prolonging his detention.

    Knowing Kokesh like I do, he won’t sit still for this. I predict that he’ll be arrested for something else in the near future. I also predict that one his tongue-bathers will be in here to defend him.
