  • McChrystal and guns

    McChrystal guns

    Yup, if you say things like assault weapons (whatever those are today) shouldn’t be in schools, I’ll agree with you every time. That’s why none of the guns I own have ever been in a school – because the law tells me that I can’t take guns (of any type) into schools. But, then, I’m a law abiding citizen.

    This load from McChrystal is exactly that…a load. I’ve stayed quiet since the discussion about his book began, because I really did respect the job he did in the Middle East, but honestly, I think he’s a tool. Obviously, he didn’t like the job that the Obama Administration was doing in Afghanistan, but he kept his mouth shut after he was effectively fired for what others told a reporter. Soldiers in Afghanistan died while he kept his mouth shut. McCrystal had the horsepower and the capital to spend while soldiers were being shot while the administration disarmed in the face of the enemy.

    And now, he wants to jump in behind the Obama Administration on gun control? Seriously? He let the Obama Administration disarm our troops on the battlefield, and now he wants to disarm the folks at home?

    In this link, sent to us by FrostyCWO, McChrystal says;

    “I spent a career carrying typically either an M16 or an M4 Carbine. An M4 Carbine fires a .223 caliber round which is 5.56 mm at about 3000 feet per second. When it hits a human body, the effects are devastating. It’s designed for that,” McChrystal explained. “That’s what our soldiers ought to carry. I personally don’t think there’s any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America.”

    Yeah, I spent a career carrying an M16, too. I like the feeling of it, it feels comfortable. Like I said, I don’t take mine around schools – I take it to the range, like I did during my career. While I agree that there’s no need, per se, there’s also no need for a Porsche or a Ferrari on the street. But there they are.

    Yeah, this is more of McChrystal’s blind obedience to Obama, regardless of the consequences.

  • Burlington city council votes to solve a problem that doesn’t exist

    I used to live in Vermont when I taught ROTC at the University of Vermont in Burlington, but I lived in St. Albans. There was a saying outside of Chittenden county that went; “the nicest thing about Burlington is that it’s so close to Vermont”. At the time, communist Bernie Sanders was mayor and there was a Republican governor and they were always at odds. Folks who live outside of Burlington are generally libertarian and scoff at the flatlanders who moved to Burlington from New York City – like Sanders and Howard Dean.

    A local TV station reports that the Burlington City Council has voted to approve an assault weapon ban in the city even though none of the weapons they call assault weapons have been used in crime in the city;

    Burlington Police Chief Michael Schirling said most gun crime in the city involves hand guns, not assault weapons.

    Burlington Police could not provide statistics on how many crimes involves assault weapons as that information was not readily available.

    But the citizens of Burlington know;

    “How many semi-automatic rifles have been shot in the city of Burlington with people injured? None,” said Bob Reid. “How many large capacity magazines were used in those rifles? None.”

    Well, that doesn’t really matter, because all that’s important to liberals is that they be seen as “doing something” no matter that there’ll be no effect on the particular issue. It’s their intentions that are paramount.

    Luckily, for the residents of Burlington, they’ll get a vote on the scary-looking gun ban in their city, but, they should fire their city council in the interim.

  • Kokesh and the anti-gun clowns

    You all know how little I like Adam Kokesh, but this 12-minute video that he did on some anti-gun protesters at the Willard Intercontinent Hotel, a few blocks from the White House, shows just how vacuous and immature they are. I recognize some of the protesters from the Bethesda chapter of MoveOn from my days in DC covering anti-war and anti-energy protests.

    Some of the protesters seem to have a problem talking to Kokesh because of their past relationships with him and the fact that he doesn’t agree with them on this issue.

    I have a problem with the congregation protesting the NRA (representing private citizens), but they can’t seem to summon the courage to protest the Administration (the people who enforce the laws).

    Thanks to Thomas for the link.

  • Feel good Sunday stories for the “national discussion”

    Brandon at Liberty and Such finds twelve recent stories of folks who defended themselves and their families with guns. As he says, the media isn’t covering these stories of the good guns do, so it’s up to us to spread them around, you know, in the interests of this “national discussion” we’re supposed to be having.

    Speaking of the “national discussion”, the Washington Post reports on the discussion below this picture;

    National Discussion

    I don’t see anyone at that table representing me in this discussion we’re supposed to be having. The Post writes;

    To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses. White House aides have also been in regular contact with advisers to New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I), an outspoken gun-control advocate who could emerge as a powerful surrogate for the Obama administration’s agenda.

    “Work around the NRA”? Really? Then how is it a discussion? And regularly talking to Nanny Bloomberg? Is he going to recommend that gun owners be forced to breast feed? And Wal-Mart is so easily influenced in this “discussion”, like they’ve always been because their business doesn’t depend completely on firearms sales. Yeah, I have a lot of confidence in this discussion.

    I also see seated at the table former police chief of DC Charles Ramsey who presided over one of the highest murder rates in that city in it’s gunless history. His excuse was that too many criminals were serving their sentences in jail and then going back to their lives of crime afterward. His solution was making gun laws tighter in the surrounding counties of Maryland and Virginia.

    So, I guess because the administration is looking for ways to “work around” the NRA, the millions of gun owners that organization represents are being left out of the conversation. So how is that a conversation? It sounds to me like we’re being dictated to instead.

  • Joshua Boston, Marine answers Feinstein

    We saw the open letter that Joshua Boston wrote to Dianne Feinstein and was posted on CNN iReports a few weeks ago. Boston is a real Marine veteran (it’s sad that I have to say that), we checked him out when the ladies of Victory Girls asked us if he was real and it turns out that he served with our own StrikeFO.

    But, the basics of his letter is that he considers unconstitutional Feinstein’s proposal to ban those weapons that she considers to be “assault weapons” and force those of us who already own scary-looking guns to register them and be fingerprinted. Boston says that he won’t register his weapons.

    He holds up very well against an obvious onslaught from the CNN reporter this morning;

    The Huffington Post provides a mixed bag of comments in regards to Boston’s open letter.

    But it illustrates what is at stake here. Americans who believe that the Constitution protects us from government will suddenly find themselves considered to be criminals in the eyes of their representatives.

    The fact that Democrats have had to keep their mouths shut about gun control since the 1994 midterm elections in order to keep their jobs, demonstrates that the majority of Americans don’t want to restrict gun ownership more than it’s been restricted already.

    If their so-called assault weapon ban is passed, Democrats will suffer in the midterms again. That’s why there’s so much confusing information coming from the investigation of the Connecticut school shooting – to keep the electorate ignorant.

    Boston makes an excellent point that we don’t have to worry about violating Feinstein’s ban because no one is interested in enforcing the law in regards to David Gregory’s blatant violation of DC’s gun laws, so no one is going to enforce laws against the rest of us, right?

  • Jackson-Lee wants you to turn in your weapons

    Inspired by Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sheila Jackson-Lee took to the floor of the House to encourage us to turn in our weapons. From The Hill;

    “I would personally just say to those who are listening, maybe you want to turn in your guns,” Jackson Lee said on the House floor. “Oh no, I’m not going to take your guns. But look at what Dick’s Sporting Goods did … they wanted to be part of the solution and part of America.”

    So, I guess the “solution” is to goad legal gun owners to just surrender their weapons and their rights to The State.

    So, my answer; I just ordered a Remington Model 700 Long Range Tactical rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum. Just the sort of weapon that will drive the liberals wild. It’s got a detachable box magazine and in the military style, but it’s a bolt action rifle, so it looks scary, especially with the muzzle brake and the bullets are huge. It’s not for hunting anything smaller than water buffalo, I bought it just to keep me occupied. It’ll be delivered Monday according to FedEx.

    So, yeah, I’m not turning in my weapons, Sheila…besides who would we be turning those weapons into, anyway? Didn’t completely think that out, did you?

  • Politics of gun control

    In the wake of the shootings by evil doers lately, politicians are doing their best appear to as if they’re doing something. In Connecticut, one politician contemplates releasing the names of legal and registered gun owners in the state for some stupid reason. Another noodles about controlling ammunition instead of guns;

    State Rep. Stephen Dargen, a Democratic legislator from West Haven, wants the names and addresses of about 170,000 handgun permit holders in the state to be made public.

    Names of gun owners are now confidential, but Dargen believes if people know how many guns are spread across communities, they’ll be safer.

    State Senator Martin Looney, of New Haven, is proposing ammunition control legislation, which would prohibit anyone barred from owning a gun from owning bullets or any other kind of ammunition.

    “A gun without ammunition is only a club. We really need to restrict access to ammunition,” Looney said.

    Um, aptly-named-Looney, didn’t you read the bit about the FBI claiming that more people are killed with clubs and hammers than rifles? Are you trying to make a bad situation worse?

    Old Trooper sends a link from the Washington Examiner which reports that gun control legislation in Illinois was stopped late last night;

    The Illinois Senate pulled the plug on legislation to ban assault-style weapons and high-capacity ammo clips late Thursday, a stinging rebuke to Democrats and a wake-up call to the president and his supporters who think the Newtown, Conn. school child slayings will make it easy to pass gun control.

    NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told Secrets Friday, “This was the first of many challenges gun owners and hunters will face this year. We will face many more and we need to keep our focus on those upcoming challenges.”

    Gun advocates predict that the Illinois Senate will offer watered down legislation next year, likely limiting the number and types of guns to be restricted. “This is in no way a victory and nobody is doing a victory dance,” said a state gun advocate. “This is a minor win and we have to keep on.”

    I wish they’d stop mentioning hunting – that’s what fuels that specious thing about semi-automatic rifles which they call “assault weapons” not needing high capacity magazines. I used to hunt since I was 14 years old when the state of New York said I could, but my interest in weapons aren’t for the purpose of hunting these days.

    But like I said, politicians aren’t in the business of solving problems. Since the Left is having a massive melt down because of the sorrow they feel for the children of Newtown, and since politicians don’t have the wherewithal to actually do something successful about nuts with guns, they’ll be happy to stage a little theatrical performance and do their level best to write more rules that will affect only the law-abiding and then pat themselves on the back afterwards about how they stopped the NRA from committing another mass murder.

    And it’s not really about the children, it’s about their own selfish feelings – they don’t want to be confronted with the thoughts of more children in danger. It’s perfectly acceptable to them to disarm the law-abiding, because that’s something they can accomplish. And if criminals have guns, well, that’s the fault of the evil corporations who somehow make a profit giving guns to criminals.

  • Crime in the US vs. the UK

    Chief Tango sent us a link to mega-moron Eugene Robinson’s latest hand wringing column in the Washington Post pleading for a ban on weapons. Like most liberals, he strains at the confines of facts;

    Hence the unbelievable response by NRA chief Wayne LaPierre to the Newtown killings. The solution isn’t to take assault weapons out of the hands of madmen, LaPierre argued, it’s to put armed guards in the schools so there can be a great big gunfight when the homicidal madmen show up. Never mind that armed officers at Columbine tried, and failed, to stop that massacre. Just be paranoid. Fight guns with more guns.

    This must be the year when America says: No more.

    The solution certainly is to take assault weapons out of the hands of madmen. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) pledges to introduce legislation banning assault weapons and large-capacity magazines as soon as the new Congress convenes. This should be just the beginning.

    In other words, everyone who owns a weapon is a madman, according to Robinson. He holds up Britain as the shining example for America, irrespective of our antecedents’ successful attempt to flea that country, Robinson thinks we should mimic them with our own gun laws now.

    Well, Brady sends us this video from a guy who appears fairly bright and he breaks down the real numbers and arrive at the real problems in the two countries, in the US and the UK;

    So if Robinson wants to cling to his “58 gun deaths in the UK” line, then I guess we can cling to the violent crime rate in the UK that is 3.5 times that of the US.
