Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer Shoots, Kills Armed Teen During Attempted Robbery

A 16-year-old boy was killed and another teenage boy was in custody after allegedly trying to rob an off-duty Chicago police officer at gunpoint Thursday morning in the Arcadia Terrace neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

At 2:23 a.m., the CPD officer was sitting inside his personal vehicle parked in the 5800 block of North Talman Avenue when the two teens walked over, CPD Deputy Chief Al Nagode said in the press conference after the shooting. The 16-year-old allegedly pointed a handgun and announced a robbery.

The officer handed over his belongings, Nagode said, but the second boy reached in the car and patted the officer down for more items.

He located a second wallet that contained the officer’s police star, Nagode said. The 16-year-old allegedly pointed his gun at the officer and told him not to move.

“The officer, knowing that he’s armed, was forced to pull out his weapon, and he fires at the individual,” Nagode said.

After he shot the 16-year-old, the other boy ran away with the officer’s belongings, Nagode said.

Broken Arrow Homeowner Shoots Suspected Burglar, Police Say
    By: Emory Bryan

TULSA, Oklahoma – Five people are in jail after Broken Arrow police say a group of intruders tried breaking into a home. But, the homeowner shot one of them.

Police have not said if the suspects and the homeowner had any dealings before but said it was unusual for that many people to show up to burglarize a house during the night.

The neighborhood woke up early on Thanksgiving. It was about 4:45 in the morning when gunfire came out of a house near North 31st St. and Kenosha.

“It woke me up and they were rapid, one right after another 5 or 6 shots, and it scared me. It sounded close like it was right here,” said neighbor James Larkins.

The shots were close; right next door. The homeowner fired the shots, according to police, who said he was shooting at a group of intruders.

“The suspect was at the door when he was shot. What you see here in the street was where he was moved for lifesaving measures,” said Detective Sergeant Ian Buchanan.

Police said the man who was shot was hit several times, had a critical injury, and needed surgery. There were several other men with him, but they were not hit, and the bullets didn’t hit nearby houses.

Police said they were unsure why a large group would target this house early Thanksgiving morning.

Warren homeowner shoots man who had broken into his house
    By ED RUNYAN

    WARREN

Kenneth York, his wife, Heather, and their dog woke up to noises outside of their Hall Street Northwest home at around 1 a.m. Tuesday. They were sleeping on the first floor.

Kenneth got up and armed himself with a handgun he was keeping not far away and headed toward the noises at the back door.

It was dark there, but Kenneth could see a large man breaking a glass panel in the door, apparently with a shovel.

“I asked, “What the hell are you doing? Get out of here,’” Kenneth recalled Tuesday afternoon.

“I mean he came in anyway, so I backed up behind the refrigerator that’s in the other room, stuck the gun out and said, ‘I got a gun. I’ll shoot you.’

“And he come right at me. He kept coming at me. I said ‘Stop, stop,’ so I backed up a little bit. He come through the doorway, and I shot him. He went back in the kitchen.”

As if that were not enough, then the burglar said to Kenneth: “What size a gun is that?’ I said, ‘big enough to kill you.’ And he come at me again. And then his arm started hurting and then he must have got dizzy or something. I said ‘Sit your [butt] down.’ And he kind of collapsed in there.”

Man shot in Gulfport walked into pawn shop with a sledgehammer, broke glass, took a gun, worker says
By John Fitzhugh and Robin Fitzgerald

Gulfport — Workers at a downtown pawn shop say they fired shots at a robber who then found himself being shot at by police on Monday night.

The man walked into 24 Hour Quick Cash & Pawn with a sledge hammer and said he wanted to look at TVs, said a pawn shop employee who gave only his first name, John.

Pawn shop workers didn’t think anything about the man coming in with a sledge hammer Monday afternoon because the shop buys tools, he said. John said he followed the man to the TV section.

“But we didn’t make it that far back. He stopped immediately at the guns and smashed a glass cabinet with the sledgehammer and grabbed a gun and started running.

“We let off about four rounds and then we heard about three more rounds coming back to us,” John said. “I assumed he was shooting back at us.”

John said he hadn’t been worried about the man firing at them with the stolen gun.

“The gun had a gun lock on it,” he said.

It’s unclear whose shots wounded the man, identified as Anthony Moody.

Official says deadly shooting Tuesday morning was justifiable
    By: WBRZ Staff

BATON ROUGE – Officials believe a shooting that allegedly stemmed from a domestic dispute early Tuesday morning was a justifiable killing.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on North Marque Ann Drive. Police say 44-year-old Kendral Muse was shot at the home and taken to a hospital where he later died.

“It appeared this woman was put into a situation where she was injured and was required to defend herself,” District Attorney Hillar Moore said. “We believe this point as much as we know now that she took justifiable action.”

A police spokesperson said a female suspect was taken into custody and questioned. That person, who police said was dating Muse, has since been released.

The exact details surrounding the shooting are unclear, but this time of year authorities typically see an increase in domestic violence.

Homeowner shoots man who allegedly used boulder to break into home

Brings a rock to, well, you know.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A would-be burglar smashed into a home using a giant rock, but he didn’t know the homeowner was inside with a gun, prepared to protect his family.

The homeowner is so scared, he went to get his concealed carry permit Monday.

“I looked at my phone and it was like two o’clock in the morning. Nobody should be here,” said Bill Wright, who was caught off guard over the weekend by an unexpected visitor. “He started banging on the doors really hard and aggressively, started punching the doors.”

Wright is still dealing with the effects of last week’s ice storm, with no power and no lights.

“When he ran around the back and disappeared around the back I thought, this is going up another level,” Wright said. “And that’s when I went and got my gun.”

The man behind the burglary, according to police paperwork, is Dustin Miller. According to police paperwork, Miller tried to kick in Wright’s door. When he didn’t get too far with that – he walked off.

When he came back, the homeowner claims he picked up a boulder, threw it into the door and shattered all the glass.

“I was only eight feet from him,” Wright said, which is when he said he fired two warning shots. But Miller continued to aggressively charge toward the him.

State Sen. Kim Ward, ‘red-blooded woman,’ went for gun to ward off intruder
    Gideon Bradshaw

Within hours of when she’d been prepared to shoot an alleged intruder if he came through the kitchen door of her mother’s Chartiers Township home, state Sen. Kim Ward was ready to joke about the chain of events that had threatened to erupt in violence.

“At 4:00 AM I woke up to pounding somewhere on the side of the house, followed by frantic bell ringing of the kitchen door bell,” Ward wrote in a “totally true, almost” Facebook post just before 7 a.m. Sunday. “As any red-blooded American woman would do I jumped out of bed (and) grabbed my gun… When I got to the kitchen I knew the situation was under control because my brother was standing by the kitchen door aiming his cane and ready to pounce.”

Soon after the scare at Ward’s mother’s home, Anthony M. Buchanan, 24, of Washington, was arrested at another house nearby. He’d allegedly forced his way into the attached garage, where the homeowner held Buchanan at gunpoint until a township police officer spotted them.
