    Officers were originally dispatched to the Movies 8 near San Mateo and Lumber in response to a call about a security guard being shot, possibly by a homeless individual.

    While officers were heading to the shooting, a homeowner called 911, indicating a person in a security guard uniform tried to break into his home. He says he fired at the intruder.

    Officers say it appears the security guard was burglarizing a home, was shot, and drove to the Movies 8 to report being shot while on duty.

    They say the gunshot wound does not appear to be life-threatening.

    From Hemby Bridge, North Carolina;

    Brittany Haughwout…crediting her pitbulls, Hoss and Stella for protecting her and her boyfriend’s family after men with guns tried to break into their home on Idlewild Road in Hemby Bridge.

    “His dad came running in with his hands tied behind his back and he said ‘we are getting robbed, we are getting robbed. They have guns, They have guns,’” said Haughwout.

    According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office it needs help looking for three black men in a silver car. They believe they are involved in four different home invasions, three in Union County and one in Monroe.

    One of the victim’s included the stepmother of former Independence/UNC/NFL player Hakeem Nicks.

    Brittany said her boyfriend’s dad was in the garage when he was attacked and the suspects were asking for money.

    “I was hiding in a bathroom and I had to army crawled to get my shotgun in the closest. It was just a terrible feeling of vulnerability,” said Haughwout.

    From Joelton, Tennessee;

    According to police, 58-year-old Zane Friend was outside taking a break when the armed men reportedly started running at him.

    Friend was armed with a pistol. He told police one of the suspects pointed a gun at him, so he shot the suspect in the stomach.

    The two other suspects reportedly ditched their friend who had just been shot.

    According to police, Friend then ran inside, grabbed towels and tried to help the man who had just tried to rob him. Friend said he performed CPR on the suspect and called 911.

    Friend is a veteran of the Marines and has been working at this gas station for 19 years. He told News4 this is the first time anyone has ever tried to rob him.

    The suspect, 18-year-old Gabriel Gonzales, remains in critical but stable condition at TriStar Skyline Medical Center.

    From Anderson County, South Carolina;

    Shore said a man had a confrontation with two people at a home on Grady Hall Road around 6:30 a.m. Shore said that during that confrontation, a man at the home was injured and a woman at the home was kidnapped.

    “The man who kidnapped the woman, the car he had broke down, so he carjacked another car,” Shore said. Shore said the man had stopped to get gas at Marathon when he was shot.

    “The accused kidnapper was shot,” he said.

    Neither the coroner nor the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office immediately released details about who is believed to have shot the man.

    An update to the article reports that the kidnap victim shot the criminal;

    [Rodney] Nixon and the victim were traveling in a vehicle, with the victim driving and Nixon allegedly holding a gun to her. When the vehicle started running out of gas, they stopped at a Marathon gas station on Highway 29 South.

    Nixon got out of the vehicle to pump gas, and the victim was able to get the gun away from him. She then shot him in the chest while he was pumping gas, killing him.

    From Bakersfield, California;

    A south Bakersfield business owner fired a single round at a burglar who broke into his establishment Thursday evening, according to sheriff’s officials.

    A deputy heard the gunshot and found and detained the suspected burglar, 48-year-old Peter Marquez, who had a mask covering his face.

    Marquez had broken into a business in the 1800 block of South Chester Avenue shortly after 8 p.m., according to sheriff’s officials. The owner was inside and fired a single round at Marquez.

    The round was later located by deputies; no one was injured during the incident.

    Marquez was arrested on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest. No criminal charges are pending against the business owner, deputies said.

    St. Louis Police said a homeowner shot a suspected burglar in the leg overnight in South St. Louis.

    It happened on Iowa just north of Arsenal and Gravois. Police said the homeowner heard an alarm in his garage about 2:45 a.m. Thursday.

    The homeowner and burglar got into a struggle, before police said the homeowner shot the suspect.

    He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The homeowner is cooperating with police.

    From Robeson County, North Carolina;

    According to a press release from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement was called to the Oakridge Grocery and Fish Market on Wiregrass Road in the Orrum area for a report of an armed robbery on Monday afternoon.

    When deputies arrived, they received a vehicle and suspect description. The car, a 1990 Buick, was found on Interstate 95 South at the six-mile marker with two suspects inside, the release stated. One had been shot.

    Deputies charged 25-year-old Gregory Eugene Davis, of Fairmont, N.C., with felony counts of robbery with a firearm or other weapon; simple assault and battery; possession of a firearm by a felon; kidnapping; and conspiracy.

    Davis remains in the Robeson County Detention Center under a $1 million bond, according to the press release.

    The second suspect, and gunshot victim, is 24-year-old Daniel Wilson Bethea, of Richland County, SC. He faces felony charges of armed robbery; conspiracy to commit robbery; assault by pointing a gun; kidnapping; and conspiracy.

    Armed Bystander Rescues Woman Being Held At Gunpoint

    From Bay City, Michigan;

    [37-year-old Eric R. Weiler]’s conviction stems from a crime in the wee hours of Jan. 22 at the Admiral station at 2626 Center Ave. He entered the store and asked for cartons of Pall Mall and Newport cigarettes, which the 61-year-old male clerk put in a bag and rang up for $129.96.

    The clerk tried running a credit card provided by Weiler, at which point Weiler grabbed the shopping bag and headed for the door. The clerk grabbed Weiler’s arm and a scuffle ensued, with the older man getting the upper hand.

    Eventually, Weiler managed to free himself and ran outside, only to be pursued by the clerk. When police arrived, the clerk had Weiler pinned on the pavement.

    The clerk told police he had pain in his left side and upper right leg, but declined medical treatment. Weiler had injuries to his right cheek and above his right eye and complained of trouble breathing, so he was taken to the hospital.

    From Jackson, Mississippi;

    The suspect who died in a Wednesday morning officer involved shooting has been identified as 30-year-old Elliot Reed.

    The second suspect involved in the shooting has been identified as 26-year-old Chauncey Reed. Chauncey Reed was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and capital murder.

    The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. at the Valero gas station on Cooper Road. According to Sgt. Roderick Holmes, several shots were fired from both the suspects and the officer.

    Elliot Reed was taken to the hospital where he died.

    From Estill County, Kentucky;

    WKYT-TV reported that Bobby Ray Osborne was talking to two men about a car they were supposedly interested in, but then they told him they had a flat tire and needed a jack to change it.

    Osborne told the television station that when “the big boy” went to get the jack, “the tall, skinny guy” grabbed him from behind, got him down on the floor and began beating him.

    “Then he yells to the big boy, ‘Get his money! Get his money!’” Osborne told WKYT. “The big boy is the one that reached his hand in and got the money. Soon as they got the money they took off.”

    When a woman inside the business told the men she’d call the police if they didn’t give the money back, they returned $200 to Osborne. He said they kept $300.

    But Osborne wasn’t finished.

    He managed to pull a handgun on the two men.

    When one of the men said, “Don’t shoot me,” Osborne said he replied, “I ought to kill you.”

    He fired one shot but did not hit either of the men, who ran off.

    State police were looking for the suspects Tuesday. One of the men reportedly left his driver’s license behind.

    “I was putting up a pretty good fight to be 78,” Osborne told WKYT.

    From Horry County, South Carolina;

    The woman told Horry County police that she, a man and her baby were in the bedroom of the home Sunday night when an intruder broke in through a locked door.

    She said when the man told the intruder to get out of the house, the intruder began to assault the man. The woman said she grabbed a samurai sword and stabbed the intruder in the arm.

    The woman said the intruder left the home, so she and the man closed the bedroom door and pushed a dresser in front of it. She said the intruder returned, armed with a knife, and pushed his way into the room, knocking the dresser over.

    The intruder then stabbed the man multiple times “all over his body and face” while the woman hid in a closet with her baby, the police report said.

    The man who had been stabbed by the intruder jumped out a bathroom window to get help, the report said.

    Officers located the intruder and held him at gunpoint until he could be taken into custody, police said.

    Both injured men were taken to transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, the police report said.

    From Gainesville, Florida;

    Officers say the victim was coming home from a movie theater with family members, and while they were parked Arkeem Bennett approached them with a handgun in an attempt to rob them.

    The victim who holds a concealed carry permit took out his gun and shot at Arkeem in self defense, one of the bullets struck Arkeem but he was able to get away in his car with another person driving.

    The victim informed 911 about the incident, and they later found Bennett dead.

    From Orlando, Florida;

    A man in his 60s was at the Wells Fargo location at 4549 Hoffner Avenue, near Conway Road, when a man in his 20s tried to rob him at gunpoint, spokeswoman Jane Watrel said. The older man had a gun, for which he has a concealed weapons permit, and exchanged shots with the suspect, Watrel said.

    He drove away and called 911, then returned to the scene, Watrel said.

    The suspect was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition and later was pronounced dead.

    However, police are currently investigating a death in that same area.

    On April 27 a man allegedly broke into a couple’s home on the same block and died.

    Police say the alleged intruder was fighting inside the house with the homeowner and when officers arrived, he was found deceased.

    The homeowner and his wife were outside with minor injuries.

    From St. Louis, Missouri;

    Just after 4:30 p.m., police said a man in his 20s was shot in his side after attempting to rob a man in the 900 block of Switzer Ave. He was taken to the hospital and listed in critical, unstable condition immediately following the shooting but was later pronounced dead.

    The victim was shot in the neck by the alleged robber and is stable condition.

    From Tucson, Arizona;

    Sgt. Dugan with TPD says the male suspect walked inside the store on Sunday and immediately pulled a mask over his face.

    When the suspect pulled out his handgun, another customer pulled out his own handgun. That’s when Sgt. Dugan says gunfire exchanged between the suspect and the customer inside the store.

    Some of the windows of Metro PCS were shot out during the gunfire.

    Police say multiple rounds were fired by both people. The suspect ran away and it is unknown if he was injured by the gunfire. No one inside the store, including the customer who fired his handgun, were injured.

    From Baker, Louisiana;

    According to Police Chief Carl Dunn, the victim was working on a house he’s been building when a man with a handgun rode up to him on a bicycle.

    The armed robber forced the victim go to an ATM to get cash, but Dunn said the robber was not satisfied with the amount of money he got.

    The victim then told the robber he had another ATM card at his house in Baker. They went to the house and the robber allowed the man inside to get the supposed second card. But, the robber got antsy while waiting and went into the house. Police say the victim had his own gun inside the home and shot the robber once as he walked inside.

    Dunn said the victim showed quick thinking and restraint.

    “This guy to me is a hero,” Dunn said.

    He kept a cool head under pressure, protected himself and then stopped firing when the threat was removed, Dunn said.

    When the attacker dropped his gun, the victim stopped firing, Dunn said.

    After being treated at a hospital and released, the robbery suspect is expected to be booked into Parish Prison.

    Miguel Smith, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, tried to leave Safeway on Saturday morning with around $15 in groceries he hadn’t paid for, according to D.C. police.

    An officer confronted Smith, who made a grab for the officer’s gun.

    The gun came partially out of the holster, then went off. Smith was hit in the leg, but still managed to limp away on foot.

    Police found Smith at the Rhode Island Avenue Metro stop after police received a call that someone had been shot.

    D.C. police said they determined that Smith was the suspect from the Safeway robbery.

    He was taken to the hospital for treatment and then arrested on charges of theft and assault on a police officer.

    From Philadephia, Pennsylvania;

    An alleged would-be burglar called the cops on himself after an off-duty officer’s mother apparently shot at and struck the suspect, Philadelphia police said.

    The unidentified suspect ran to a nearby car wash after the shooting early Saturday, climbed to the roof of the business and called 9-1-1, police said.

    He suffered injuries from broken glass and a possible graze wound from a bullet, police said. The 43-year-old man was being treated Saturday at Hahnemann Hospital, where he was held in police custody.

    The initial alleged burglary occurred sometime before 5 a.m. on Poplar Street near Watts Street in North Philadelphia, police said.

    Officers found the suspect a couple blocks away on the rooftop near North Broad and Brown streets.

    The suspect is stable at the hospital. The city police officer was not involved in the shooting, cops said. A weapon was recovered, police said, but it is not clear if it is the homeowner’s or the suspect’s.

    From Corpus Christi, Texas;

    A man in his early 20s is dead after investigators say he attempted to break into a home through a window. That break in happened early Saturday morning just before 1 a.m. at a home on Kimbrough Drive near Airline Road.

    According to detectives, the victim was shot several times by a friend of the homeowner who was visiting at the time. Detectives believe the victim was trying to break into the home to see a girl living there. The man died at the scene before first responders could arrive.

    From Hamblen County, Tennessee;

    The Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office arrested Derrick Logan Jefferson Thursday, who’s suspected of attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault and aggravated burglary.

    Deputies said they were called out to a burglary on Oak Lane. The homeowner said the suspect had went upstairs and state he had a gun. Officers said the homeowner fire a shot into the wall and then ran from his home before calling 911.

    When officers arrived and made contact with the suspect in an upstairs bedroom closet, they said the suspect fired a single shot at them and tried to fire again when his firearm malfunctioned.

    Officers said Jefferson told them he intended to kill them. Officers were able to arrest him without injury and booked him into the Hamblen County Jail.

    From Dallas, Texas;

    It happened around 12:40 a.m. Friday at a Race Trac gas station in the 18500 block of Marsh Lane. Police said a man opened fire when he saw someone trying to drive off in his black Honda.

    The man wounded the suspect, who turned out to be a teenager. The teen got out of the car and ran about a mile before asking for help.

    He was taken to Children’s Hospital under guard and is expected to face charges for unauthorized use of a vehicle.

    His wounds are not life-threatening, police said.

    From Bountiful, Utah;

    One person is dead after a shooting at a pawn shop in Bountiful Friday morning, police said.

    Two armed individuals attempted to rob Bountiful Pawn and Sales at 135 S. 500 West when it opened around 10 a.m., according to Bountiful police Lt. Dave Edwards. A scuffle between the two men and the pawn shop store employee ensued, and one of the men was shot and killed.

    The other man fled from the store and police are asking for the public’s help in locating the man.
