    A 63-year-old man with a concealed carry license shot an attempted armed robber Monday evening in the South Chicago neighborhood.

    The man was walking with another person at 6:19 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Oglesby when the 16-year-old boy and his three accomplices pulled out weapons and demanded their property, according to Chicago Police. The man then pulled out his own gun and shot the boy in his knee, at which point the other suspects ran off.

    The boy’s weapon turned out to be a replica handgun, police said.

    He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

    From Battle Creek, Michigan;

    Troopers report a 26-year-old Burlington Township man forced his way into a home where he was met by the 38-year-old home owner.

    The two men knew each other. A struggle ensued which led to a 22-year-old from Litchfield who was in the home to come to the aid of the homeowner. The Litchfield man was armed with a handgun and tried to subdue the suspect from entering the home by striking him with the butt of a handgun. But the man who was trying to break into the house overpowered and strangled the 22-year-old to the point of unconsciousness.

    The man who came to the aid of the homeowner sustained numerous lacerations and bruising about the face and neck. He was taken by Lifecare Ambulance to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

    A 20-year-old female and a ten month old infant were also in the home during the incident and were uninjured.

    The 26 year old Burlington man was lodged at Calhoun County Jail charged with Assault, Great bodily harm less then Murder and Home Invasion.

    From Petosky, Michigan;

    Authorities say a man has died after apparently cutting himself on shattered window glass after breaking into a home in northern Michigan.

    WPBN-TV reports authorities on Monday identified the man as 36-year-old Vincent Parnell Reynolds, who recently moved to Petoskey from the Saginaw area.

    Officers found Reynolds bleeding the morning of May 27 on the home’s roof. Police say he left a party, eventually broke into a house and tried to escape through a window after a brief confrontation with the owner.

    The other day we wrote about the homeowner who shot to death two criminals in Memphis, Tennessee. Today we learn that he used a scary black rifle to balance the scales in his favor;

    As the shooting went on, the homeowner pulled out a weapon of his own from a closet – a “personal” AK-47 rifle.

    “I don’t know what’s going on but I know I’m going to defend my life to the best of my ability,” he told WMC. “I just let loose, not knowing it hit both of them,” the man told Fox 13.

    When officials arrived, both 28-year-old Azell Witherspoon and 17-year-old Demond Robinson were pronounced dead, according to the Commercial Appeal. Police detained the homeowner but concluded that the shooting was in self-defense and did not press charges, according to the paper.

    The homeowner told WMC this wasn’t his first brush with violence, and that his home had been shot up less than a year ago.

    From Park County, Colorado;

    According to the sheriff’s office, after the attempted carjacking, the victim was able to escape and flagged down a ranch employee for help. The employee tracked down the suspect during a confrontation, the suspect was shot at least one time while the ranch employee was stabbed several times.

    Despite his wound, the suspect ran when deputies arrived. They chased him and arrested him around 5 p.m. Sunday. Deputies attempted to control the bleeding from his gunshot wound, but the suspect died before Platte Canyon Fire and Flight for Life arrived.

    No deputies fired their weapons, Jones said.

    A Vicksburg man was killed Saturday night while participating an apparent attempted home invasion at a house in the 3100 block of Valley Street, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

    Deangelo Eli Fields, 21, was declared dead at the scene by deputy Warren County coroner Kelda Bailess. His body was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

    Edwards said police responding to a call of a possible home invasion about 10 p.m. Saturday arrived to find Fields lying in the street with a gunshot wound. The homeowner said several men were trying to break into his house when Fields was shot.

    From Evansville, Indiana;

    One man is dead after a homeowner shot back during an attempted home invasion robbery in Evansville.

    “I was sitting in my car minding my own business,” said next door neighbor Sayda Bushrod.

    Coker, a usually quiet street, became the scene of a fatal shooting Saturday after 46-year-old Eric Thomas came armed to a home just before noon.

    “Then out of the blue it scared me half to death these girls were screaming bloody murder across the street,” said Bushrod.

    “When the homeowner came to the door he was armed with a handgun, during the encounter he felt threatened for himself and his wife and juvenile daughter,” said EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum.

    According to Evansville Police, the homeowner and Thomas knew each other, but it’s not confirmed how.

    “There was some type of exchange between him and the alleged home invasion robbery suspect there was an exchange of gunfire,” said Sgt. Cullum.

    Police arrived on scene and believe Thomas was attempting a home invasion robbery.

    He was shot multiple times by the homeowner and taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

    From Salt Lake City, Utah;

    The Wyoming Highway Patrol is praising an Iraq War veteran for his role in apprehending a suspect and helping a trooper who was in danger of being shot.

    Trucker Darren Phillips of Taylorsville, Utah, pulled over after seeing an altercation between a trooper and a suspect Thursday near Green River, Wyoming, about 140 miles northeast of Salt Lake City.

    “I put my brakes on, and I jump out. And by this time, the trooper is on his back and the guy is on top of him,” Phillips told KSL-TV, Salt Lake City. “The trooper saw me running over and as soon as I got up to him, he says, ‘He’s going for my gun.’ ”

    Phillips put the suspect in a chokehold. A Facebook post from the TV station quotes Phillips: It was the “craziest thing” he’s ever done despite serving two tours in Iraq.

    Phillips said his training in the Marines and Army National Guard helped him subdue the man and pull him off the trooper.

    New information about the two men shot and killed in East Memphis.

    Police said the duo broke into a house on Myrna Street, and the homeowner shot them.

    It happened Friday night.

    “It’s a good neighborhood,” said Charles Harris, who was rattled by the blue lights he saw. “They kept me awake pretty much until midnight or a little longer than midnight.”

    Next door to Harris is where police said a burglary turned into a shooting that left two people dead.

    We spoke to the man who lives in that house.

    He was too traumatized to do an interview, but told WREG he came home from the barber shop around 7 p.m. He saw his door pried open and heard his dog barking like crazy.

    He says he then saw two men snooping through his house.

    The men reportedly aimed a gun at him. He grabbed his weapon and opened fire.

    Police said the attempted burglars were shot and died at the scene.

    The homeowner was taken into custody but later released.

    In Salisbury, North Carolina;

    The man shot by a Salisbury police officer after he stabbed a business owner following an alleged bank robbery and chase Thursday has died.

    Jerick Raheem Gray, 42, of High Point, died Thursday evening at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, according to the Salisbury Police Department. Gray was identified as the driver of a vehicle officers pursued after a robbery at First National Bank on Innes Street in Salisbury on Thursday.

    Wes Anderson, the co-owner of Anderson R/C hobby shop in Thomasville, remained hospitalized Friday recovering from stab wounds.

    The victim stated the suspects came to his residence and one of the suspects began kicking the door attempting to gain entry. The victim said as he opened the door to his residence he spotted the suspects pulling out their guns and that is when he shot at them. The suspects also shot back striking the residence numerous times.

    One of the suspects, 28-year-old Robert Bexley, was treated at the hospital and released. Bexley has been booked in to Metro Jail and is charged with burglary first degree, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a short barrel rifle.

    The second suspect is still in the hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition.

    From Choctaw County, Mississippi;

    The adolescent was alone in the house when Jerry Lee Robinson arrived with the weapon, Choctaw County Chief Deputy Lee Upchurch said, according to The Associated Press.

    After the adult made a threatening move, the juvenile fired at Robinson, Upchurch said. Authorities reportedly discovered that the man, who was non-responsive and later pronounced dead, had been shot in the chest.

    The juveniles’ mother, Rachel Cork, told WCBI that her 16-year-old son “defended himself” against Robinson. The teen was identified as a relative of Robinson’s.

    “Yeah, my son defended himself,” Cork told the outlet. “It could have been the other way around. It could have been my son, I’m the one I’m picking up and having to bury, but it wasn’t.”

    From Grand Junction, Colorado;

    A husband and wife who live in the 2100 block of 45½ Road told law enforcement that they “were happy they didn’t have to shoot” a man high on methamphetamine who kept trying to get in their home early Tuesday.

    Mesa County sheriff’s deputies arrested Robert Ortego, 53, after they found him on the back porch of a residence just after 4 a.m. The homeowner called authorities after Ortego allegedly tried to force open the back door, this after circling the home looking for a way inside. During the call, a dispatcher could hear the homeowner in the background “screaming he would shoot him,” according to an affidavit for Ortego’s arrest.

    Ortego was fidgety and incoherent at times, and he showed other physical signs of being high on methamphetamine, deputies noted. Ortego allegedly admitted to recently shooting up, according to deputies, and made numerous paranoid and nonsensical statements during questioning.

    The husband and wife who confronted Ortego as he tried to break into their home in the middle of the night told deputies Ortego got on their back porch and attempted to force open the back door.

    “(The homeowners) stated they were both terrified of him getting into the house but happy they didn’t have to shoot him,” an arrest affidavit reads.

    A judge issued Ortego a $5,000 cash-only bond on Wednesday.

    Ortego was on parole at the time of his arrest, and previously served a five-year sentence for a drug-related case.

    From Wales, Wisconsin;

    According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a burglary-in-progress in the Village of Wales around 6:20 p.m.

    Officials say a 76-year-old male homeowner was involved in a physical altercation with a 33-year-old man. The 33-year-old man became unresponsive during the altercation and was later pronounced deceased.

    At this time, names are being withheld pending notifications and further investigation.

    From Harris County, Texas;

    Deputies say a robbery suspect is dead after he showed up to a hospital in north Harris County.

    Authorities tell Eyewitness News this all began as a gunfight between the robber and a resident in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 16700 Kuykendahl Rd. around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

    Investigators say the victim told them that the suspect shot at him first, so he pulled out his gun and fired back.

    That’s when the suspect was injured. Officials say he drove himself to Kindred Hospital.

    He was then transferred to Houston Northwest Hospital due to the severity of his injury. We’re told that’s where he died.

    In Farmington, New Mexico;

    Hours after sending an alert saying they sought a suspect shot with a bow and arrow, San Juan County deputies say they they found him.

    Eric Tillerson faces charges of aggravated assault, trespassing and cruelty to animals. Deputies say a homeowner shot Tillerson after Tillerson threatened him and began shooting the homeowner’s dog with a pellet gun.

    Tillerson reported walked out of the intensive care unit after being taken for treatment.

    From Harvey, Louisiana;

    The shooting occurred around 6 a.m. in the 400 block of Maple Avenue. The man entered the homeowner’s residence, and the two began to fight, according to Rivarde said.

    During the scuffle, the man brandished a gun. He and the homeowner struggled over the weapon, which fired, striking the man in the abdomen. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died, Rivarde said.

    Sheriff’s Office detectives are still interviewing witnesses. But the homeowner had not been arrested or booked on any criminal charges as of Wednesday afternoon, Rivarde said.

    From Carroll County, Kentucky;

    The Carroll County Coroner said 37-year-old Shaun Corley of Carrollton kicked in the front door of a home on Sycamore Circle just before 6 a.m. on May 29. That’s when the homeowner reportedly shot and killed Corley.

    Lakeland Police Department spokesman Gary Gross said the woman, 32-year-old Sheena Lawson, told responding officers that 26-year-old Ronald Williams of San Gully Road has repeatedly threatened her. She has been having friends stay with her because she was afraid of Williams.

    Gross said just after 5 a.m., Williams broke the bedroom window of Lawson’s apartment on Kansas Avenue and climbed in. Williams’ friend, Kristasia Coby, ran to get help, knocking on a neighbor’s door and telling them to call police before Coby ran back to the apartment.

    At 5:22 a.m., Officer Stephen Richburg arrived at the apartment building and was attempting to locate the address of the disturbance when he heard two gun shots.

    Richburg saw Williams come out into the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the right knee. Richburg and other officers moved Williams and they took cover. Williams was driven to a safe location, where an ambulance transported him to the emergency room. Other officers cordoned off a crime scene and secured the area.

    About ten minutes later, Coby and Lawson came out of the apartment. Lawson told officers that Williams was her ex-boyfriend and that he had broken her bedroom window and climbed into her apartment. Lawson had armed herself with a handgun and, in fear for her life, she fired at Williams several times, hitting him in the buttocks and the leg. That’s when Williams ran from the apartment and encountered Richburg.

    Williams, who remains in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling with battery on an occupant, and battery (dating violence).

    From Saginaw, Michigan;

    Michigan State Police Special 1st Lt. David Kaiser said officers responded to a tip and located, interviewed, and arrested the second suspect the night of Monday, May 28. Officers recovered a gun with the man, Kaiser added.

    The man is lodged in the Saginaw County Jail on charges of assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion, and felon in possession of a firearm.

    The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Vermont Street in the early hours of Sunday, May 27. Three men kicked in the door of a porch-area and were attempting to kick in the house’s main door, when the homeowner shouted he had a gun and would fire, Kaiser said.

    Saginaw police officer and Michigan State Police troopers responded May 27 to the 1700 block of Vermont Street and learned three suspects attempted to kick in the home’s door.

    At least one of the intruders fired several shots through the door. The homeowner returned fire, discharging several rounds from a handgun, Kaiser said.

    One of the suspects took a bullet to the arm and then he and his cohorts fled the scene. The wounded man went to an area hospital for treatment, where he was interviewed by a state police investigator. He was then arrested on charges of attempted armed robbery, home invasion and assault with intent to murder.

    From Quincy, Illinois;

    Adams County Coroner Jim Keller confirmed late Monday night that the suspect in an Adams County shooting, Logan Graham, 19, died at Blessing Hospital from injuries in the incident.

    The Adams County Sheriff says what started as a call of a home invasion ended with the suspect shot.

    It happened around 2:45 p.m. at a home near Highway 104 and East 1330th Street. An Adams County Chief Deputy said deputies were called to a home in the area to deal with a male suspect in his 20s.

    “When our deputies arrived on scene, they did witness the suspect leaving the area, a short chase ensued but was terminated. He was lost.” VonderHaar said. “A short time later we received another call that the suspect was back at the house. Deputies arrived in seconds and found the subject had been shot.”

    Sheriff VonderHaar said Monday evening that the public wasn’t in danger, no one has been taken into custody and the person who pulled the trigger has not been identified.

    From Charleston, South Carolina;

    The clerk at the Rivers Market Citgo convenience store on Rivers Avenue told officers the robber shot her in the arm after she questioned his motives, and that he tried to shoot her again, but the gun jammed.

    Police say a witness told them he heard a gunshot then saw the robber run out the door. The witness told police the clerk chased the robber out of the store, and threw the stapler at him, hitting him as he ran off.

    The robber was still able to get away, and according to a police report no one could identify him. The robber was reportedly wearing all black clothing with a white T-shirt covering his face.

    The store clerk was treated at MUSC for non-life-threatening injuries.
