  • Sunday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us a link to a couple of feel good stories for your morning coffee consumption. The first is from New Orleans when a couple was walking along a street then they were confronted by three gentlemen turning their lives around;

    According to police, two people were walking in the 3100 block of Ursulines Avenue on Thursday about 9 p.m. when they were approached by three men, one of them armed with a handgun. The men ordered the victims to the ground and told them not to move, but that’s when the tables were turned. The male victim, who was carrying his own firearm in plain view in a holster around his waist, removed his weapon and fired it in the direction of the robbers. A short time later, Smith and Carter were stopped by police and arrested in the 1000 block of Hagan Street, police said.

    The third robber, who remains at large, was described as being tall and thin,

    Yeah, they probably should avoid folks who are carrying the weapon openly next time. They’re lucky that there may be a next time though, because the would-be victim only fired warning shots;

    The next story is from Wichita when a man found another fellow trying to break into his home, seeking to turn his life around;

    Police say the man living in the home saw the break in happen. He tried to stop the burglar, and the burglar took off and got into a car with two other people.

    Police say the resident then fired a shot, hitting the suspect. He called 911 and gave a detailed description of the vehicle to police.

    Police stopped the car near Maple and Elder and found the suspect with a gun shot wound. They also found stolen items in the car. The suspect went to the hospital in serious condition. The two other people in the car were arrested.

  • Saturday Feel Good Story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story for today from Houston when three people forced their way into a house in order to turn their lives around. they forced the homeowner to the floor while they had their way with his stuff. When they finally left his house, he grabbed a shot gun and gunned down a 47-year-old woman as she got in her car. Her two playmates escaped in a pick up truck;

    Investigators said the man was home when three robbers kicked their way into his home. The homeowner grabbed his gun.

    The homeowner ran outside and shot a 47-year-old woman through the window of a car.

    “I totally defend his decision,” said neighbor Doreen Hodgson. “Homeowners are tired of working hard and people feeling you can just take what you worked hard for.”

  • Friday feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us a link to our feel good story from Norcross, Georgia in which a homeowner heard someone trying to turn their lives around by smashing in his front door just before noon, so he went to investigate;

    “Moments later he heard somebody crashing open the back window,” said Gwinnett County police Cpl. Ed Ritter.”He called police and apparently was on the phone with 911 at the time this was happening and at that time he fired the weapon at the suspects.”

    The robbers ran from the home and eventually the injured suspect was dropped off at Gwinnett Medical Center.

    Police identified the suspect at the hospital as Tajh Guillont, 22. A second suspect left the hospital in a black passenger car. Police released photos of the man seen wearing a blue shirt and camouflaged shorts.

    The Gwinnett Daily Post says that young Tajh caught the bullet with his face and he’s in serious condition and that his playmate is still on the loose.

  • Thursday feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our Thursday feel good story from Kalamazoo, Michigan this afternoon, wherein a homeowner came home to a bunch of people turning their lives around in his house;

    The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was called to the 900 block of Stockbridge Avenue near Portage Street just after 4:20 p.m. Wednesday to reports of gunshots fired.

    When officers arrived at the scene, a resident told them he had shot one of several intruders.

    An 18-year-old Kalamazoo resident soon showed up at Bronson Methodist Hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

    Authorities soon connected that person to the home invasion.

    The 18-year-old then rolled over on his playmates and the police made more arrests, so now they can all reunite in the chow line…well, when the eighteen-year-old get out of the hospital.

  • Wednesday feel good story

    Open Channel D sends us a link from Washington State with our feel good story for today about a former Marine who helped a man turn his life around when the man tried to steal the Marine’s truck at gun point;

    “All I heard were gunshots, then I came outside and the man and woman were trying to drive away but the car wouldn’t go,” [Kristen] Hague gets emotional talking about what happened next. She says the male passenger stood up with a weapon.

    “Keenan yelled ‘gun’, and he pushed me to the ground to protect me,” said Hague. She says that’s when shots were exchanged. “He did it to protect me. He loves his aunt.”

    Hague performed CPR on the suspected thief and put pressure on his bullet wounds, but he did not survive.

    The two criminals showed up at the scene in a stolen vehicle and the survivor had felony warrants on her ass, so no tears here.

  • Monday feel good story

    UpNorth sends us the story today of Bennie Hill who attempted to turn his life around with the money from a convenience store. In fact, I heard Benny Hill music in my head while I read the story from Tifton, Georgia;

    “We estimate around 8:53pm, a tall, heavy-set black male had come into the store wearing a do-rag to cover part of his face, a dark blue shirt and gray pants,” said Lt. Lee Dunston of the Tifton Police Department.

    Officers say the suspect, later identified a 35 year-old Bennie J. Hill, was carrying what appeared to be a gun wrapped in a cloth.

    “He confronted the store employee near the back of the store and demanded money,” Dunston said. “The employee pulled a handgun and shot multiple times at the offender. The offender was struck multiple times.”

    Hill ran out the door with an undetermined amount of money and drove off, but got into a wreck five blocks away from the store near Old Ocilla Road and East 12th Street.

  • Daughter Reunited with Father’s Purple Heart Follow-Up

    In a follow-up to Jonn’s post on September 19th, Daughter to be united with father’s Purple Heart and his only words to her, yesterday the Patriot Guard Riders and Donna Gregory made good on the delivery. Via the AP/Yahoo News;

    A World War II soldier’s heartfelt letter to his daughter has finally reached her, seven decades after it was written.

    In case you missed the original story;

    The father she never met wrote the three-page letter shortly after she was born and shortly before he died in Italy in June 1944. He sent it while stationed in Texas, just before he was sent overseas.

    Donna Gregory of St. Louis found the soldier’s letter and other World War II memorabilia in a box 14 years ago while helping her then-husband clean out his grandparents’ home in Arnold, Mo., a St. Louis suburb.

    Gregory tracked down Smith in June after a search that involved libraries and the Internet. Both women cried during their initial phone conversation that left the daughter shocked by the items’ discovery.

    Sunday, the medals and letter were delivered by Donna Gregory and the Patriot Guard Riders;

    purple heart reunited

    Peggy Eddington-Smith received the letter penned by her father, Pfc. John Eddington, as well as his Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals, during an emotional ceremony Saturday in Dayton, Nev., about 40 miles southeast of Reno.

    Gregory’s voice cracked with emotion as she read the letter Saturday, bringing tears to Eddington-Smith and many in the crowd of about 150.
    The soldier devoted the first page to his wife, saying he hoped she did not find it “silly” that he was writing a letter to a child who could not read.

    Not so silly, I think… If your monitor hasn’t blurred over yet, check your pulse.

    Job well done Ms. Gregory and the Patriot Guard Riders.

  • Friday feel good story

    UpNorth sends us a link to today’s feel good story from Tulsa in which we learn that if you’re intent on turning your life around, pick a partner with enough common sense to help you in that regard.

    [Police] said [Aaron] Warner and Elbert Hendrickson robbed a man at the Georgetown Motel Thursday. The robbery victim chased after them and caught up with Warner, who police said he tackled and caused to drop the loot from the robbery.

    Police said Hendrickson continued running, until he realized Warner had been caught. They said Hendrickson went back and fired several rounds at the robbery victim, but missed him and hit his accomplice instead.

    The two stooges fled the scene. Hendrickson dropped Warner at his girfriend’s house and she was supposed to take him to the hospital but Warner died on the way.

    Hendrickson, who was captured stowing away in the trunk of someone’s car, has a record of burglary and weapons charges, no word on the deceased, well, except that he’s still dead.
