  • Friday Feel Good Stories

    Chief Tango sends us the first of three feel good stories to enjoy with your Friday morning coffee; the first is from Orlando where three people crashed a birthday party;

    Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said two men and a woman, one of whom had a shotgun, broke into a home at the Villa Tuscany apartments on Sherwood Terrace Drive in Orlando.

    Three people were inside the home celebrating a birthday and a scuffle broke out, said deputies, adding that one of the residents grabbed a gun and shot an intruder.

    The three assailants fled the scene and drove off but were quickly apprehended by deputies after a neighbor called 911, officials said.

    The next is from North Carolina, where two gentlemen welcomed a couple home with an assault;

    Grantham said when the wife came into the house, she noticed glass from a glass door on the ground. It was then, Grantham said, the two burglars came from the back of the house, one of them attacking the husband.

    “In the exchange, the husband was hit in the head and received a cut on the hand. He then was able to retrieve a pistol he was carrying and shot one of the burglars,” Grantham said. “The other suspect fled the scene.”

    He said the burglar who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene by responding authorities.

    The third story comes from Chief Tango and David and happened in Texas, where two gentlemen attempted to steal another fellow’s chickens and instead ended up worm food;

    Deputies on Sunday night received 911 calls about gunfire, then found one man dead on a road and a second person deceased at a residence.

    Trevino says preliminary information indicates two people drove to the home, inquired about buying some roosters, then flashed guns. The sheriff says the homeowner retrieved his own weapon and shots both individuals. All three guns have been recovered.

  • Thursday Morning Feel Good Story

    AmyJ sends us today’s feel good story from Houston where an enterprising young man tried to turn his life around with the money he could get from two men he saw parked in a parking lot outside an apartment building;

    As the men waited for a girlfriend to come outside, the would-be robber walked up and pushed a gun through the driver’s window.

    Police said the driver, an off-duty reserve deputy from Louisiana, pulled out his gun and opened fire. The suspect was shot in the neck and was sent to the hospital in critical condition.

    After the shooting, HPD said the deputy sped away and called 911.

  • Shinwari: Wheels Down on US Soil

    Jonn’s written multiple times (here, here, and here) about Janis Shinwari, the Afghan interpreter who saved the life of a US soldier and later applied for a US visa under a special program.  Shinwari initially got a visa, sold most of his belongings and prepared to move his family to the US – then was notified that his visa had been “frozen” without explanation.

    Turns out the story has a happy ending.  A few hours after the US government shutdown ended, his visa was reinstated.   He and his family landed in the DC area earlier today.

    Kudos to Matt Zellar – the former MI officer whose life Shinwari saved – for bulldogging this one on Change.org.  I’m guessing Shinwari would still be in limbo (or worse) if not for Zellar’s efforts.

    The Army Times has more details.  IMO it’s worth taking the 5 min to read their article.

  • Tuesday Morning Feel Good Story

    Average NCO sends us a feel good story this morning, but, unfortunately, there is no firearm involved. It comes from Mississippi where Bridgett Bolen was tanking up her Toyota at the local filling station. Anthony Harris made the poor decision to relieve her of her purse, while she was getting ripped off at the pump;

    “I saw the man standing over there and he just looked creepy,” Bolen said.

    Bolen had the doors open on her Toyota Camry and was vacuuming the floor behind the driver’s seat, when Harris approached and took her purse and keys off the front passenger’s seat.

    “I looked up and he was getting my purse and keys and I said, ‘Ahhhh, no you didn’t,”’ Bolen said. “I don’t know how I got to the other side of the car, whether I flew over the hood or what. I guess I ran around the back of the car.”

    When Bolen caught up to the 6-foot-4 Harris, he was near the front-right panel of her vehicle.

    “I yelled ‘Sir’ and he turned around and I kicked him between the legs,” Bolen said. “I was trying to pull my keys away and when he bent over and got about eye level, smack.”

    Bolen delivered a right jab to Harris’ left eye.

    “When he grabbed his face, I grabbed my keys and purse and ran,” she said.

    She ran into the station restroom, locked the door and didn’t come out until Mobile police officers, who were quickly on the scene, assured her it was safe to emerge.

    Harris was being sought by police for pulling the same trick on a 72-year-old woman. Bolen noticed that her hand was swollen from smacking Harris and went to a local doctor who treated her for free remarking that she was his hero. Oh, yeah, Harris had some pot on him when he was arrested – smart guy.

  • Sunday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us a link to this morning’s feel good story to enjoy with your coffee. This one comes from Dallas when a 21-year-old woman was at home alone when she was in her parents’ home alone;

    She confronted the two burglars as they ascended the stairs and shot at them several times.

    The two ran out the front door and one collapsed from a gunshot wound. Police later recovered a gun at the scene, “indicating at least one of the suspects was armed.” Nobody has been identified.

    A witness at the scene said she’s a friend of the resident, a 21-year-old who lived with her parents. The witness said the woman called her and told her she shot a home invader. Police investigators were questioning the friend in a squad car at the scene.

    The woman’s father said that he taught his daughter how to shoot;

    “Intruders came in and kicked our door and I was glad I taught her if the alarm went off, it was a problem,” Brown said near the crime scene. “She got one of them. I hate she didn’t get both of them.”

  • Saturday Morning Feel Good Stories

    Chief Tango sends us three feel good stories for your morning coffee. The first is from Gig Harbor, WA where a man drove down a long driveway with his truck, ignored the homeowner and walked into the man’s house;

    The man’s wife and children were inside the house. Police say the man kept going and went in the front door; the homeowner fired one shot and hit the man in the back. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma.

    Detectives spent hours investigating and collecting evidence. They were working to find out who the man is and why he went to the house in the first place. The homeowner told deputies he did not recognize the man.

    In Tampa, a couple came home after a night out and they were followed into their house by another couple;

    The couple entered the home, located at 1804 24th Ave., after the two victims returned home at around 8:45 p.m.

    Inside the home there was a confrontation and the homeowner armed himself with a handgun and shot the male suspect, police said. The man — who police later said has a history of mental illness — and woman both ran out of the house.

    Police found the male suspect not far from the home. He was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

    Police didn’t release a description of the female suspect.

    The third story is from Tennessee where two youths thought that it would be easy to turn their lives around with the proceeds from a jewelry store where the owner was in a wheelchair, they found out differently;

    The Alcoa Police Department says two suspects went inside the the store. While one suspect was asking about merchandise, the other jumped the store’s counter and ran to a backroom.

    Alcoa PD Detective Kris Sanders said both suspects then tried to leave with some money. The store’s owner then shot one of the men in the stomach area with a handgun.

    Sanders said authorities arrived to the scene within minutes of the incident. He said they then arrested the two suspects inside the store.

    “Everybody has a gun permit nowadays,” Sanders said. “So, I don’t think it’s safe to assume you’re going to go into a business where there’s not a weapon.”

    From the Blount County Daily Times, the store owner got the attention of the other two fellows after he shot the first and was able to hold them in the store until police arrived.

  • Friday Feel Good Stories

    Chief Tango sends our feel good stories today – a twofer. The first is from Arizona when two men who had hung with the homeowners in the past forced their way in the house;

    The suspects were armed with guns and assaulted the victims while demanding items from the home, according to Jacinto.

    At some point, the male victim grabbed a gun from one of the suspects and reportedly shot him in the leg. The two suspects then left the home and drove away with a 26-year-old woman, Jacinto said.

    The three were later found by Phoenix police after they called 911 to report the 23-year-old suspect’s gunshot wound.

    The second story comes from Ohio when a burglar was shot while trying to rob a family;

    13abc.com Toledo (OH) News, Weather and Sports

    The burglar is now enrolled in his local vocational school held at the county jail, well, after he gets out of the hospital.

    Here’s a bonus story from War On Terror News, it’s a few months old, it’s still a good story. It happened in South Bend, IN when a burglar struck twice in 12 hours, but the second time was one too many. The second time the husband was home and began to struggle with the burglar, while his wife grabbed a kitchen knife and turned the burglar’s life around for him;

  • Feel Good Stories

    Chief Tango sends us three, count ’em, three, feel good stories today, the first from Redford, Michigan where a pizza delivery guy turned around the life of a thief. It’s a sad state of affairs when our pizza delivery guys have to carry a gun;

    When James Wethers heard three gunshots around 11:00 p.m. Monday night, he looked outside and saw a frantic pizza delivery driver and a man face down on the driveway across the street from his home on Gaylord in Redford Township.

    Redford Police say the pizza delivery driver opened fire as he was being robbed by 20-year-old Tajuan Boyd.

    Yeah, Tajuan didn’t get up.

    The next story comes from Wichita where a woman was awoken by someone ringing her doorbell. It’s very polite that criminals are doing that now – I should get one of those doorbell things;

    A 28-year-old woman said she woke to someone ringing the doorbell twice. When that stopped, she heard someone at the backdoor. Her 8-year-old and 2-year-old daughters were still asleep, so she grabbed her handgun and went to investigate.

    She then found a man standing in her living room who said, “How are you?” She told him to get out of her house, and he started walking towards the back door. She said that as the man was leaving, he reached for something in his pocket and that’s when she fired a shot.

    The third story is from Florida, where a man went to investigate an intruder in his backyard;

    After grabbing a flashlight and his .357-caliber Magnum pistol, the 68-year-old Abele crept quietly outside and shouted to the would-be intruder that he had a gun. But the creature crawling on his deck in the moonlight was the last thing he expected to see.

    The same could probably be said of the 200-pound, 6-foot alligator that suddenly sprang toward Abele from the shadows.

    The next few moments happened in a heart-pounding flash, Abele recalled Wednesday.

    “I was crouched down and looking around when he hit me hard enough to knock me into a planter,” he said. “The next thing I knew he coming at me with his jaws open, so I pulled the trigger with the gun barrel about 3 inches from the side of his head.”

    Another happy ending brought to you by your local firearm distributor. I wonder if he’ll have a holster made for his new best friend from the ‘gator hide?
