  • Thursday morning feel good story

    OIF ’06-’07-’08 & Flagwaver send us a link to this morning’s feel good story from Nebraska about Ramon R. Matlock who kicked open the door of Ronald Green, 66 who was peaceably watching his television.

    Matlock swung at Green, and Green fired a shot into Matlock’s chest and another into his lower back, authorities said.

    Authorities said Matlock ran out the door, but only got as far as the front yard. The Omaha Fire Department pronounced Matlock dead at the scene.

    Kleine said Green has been cooperating with authorities, even turning over the firearm, which is properly registered to him.

    Kleine deemed the shooting justified, saying that Green was fearful for his life, wasn’t the one to provoke the incident and had no place to go.

    Matlock’s family says the incident is a misunderstanding and that the 19-year-old wouldn’t have broken into someone else’s house without a reason.

    The family, of course, claims that Ramon didn’t need money so the whole thing must have been a misunderstanding. Neighbors say Ramon was a fixture in the neighborhood and always for the wrong reason. You should click over and watch the video report.

    Chief Tango sends you his feel good story this morning, this time it happened in Tennessee where a good son saved his mother’s life;

    Kenny Guffey said he was driving home from work around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when he called is 83-year-old mother, Christine Guffey.

    “We were talking probably ten minutes and then all of the sudden her voice panicked and she said, ‘What are you doing in my house, oh no, he’s got a knife. What are you doing with the knife?’” said Guffey.

    Luckily, Guffey was only two minutes away from her Balsam Road home. When he got there, he went inside with his gun drawn.

    “I went through the door and [Colin Patrick Lynch, 29] was standing over her with the shovel, I didn’t see the knife, it was dark in there,” said Guffey.

    Guffey said the intruder used the shovel to knock his gun out of his hand. He said he then tackled the man and got his gun back while his mother called 911.

    “I sat on top of him and held him down and was able to grab my gun and put it to his head and told him not to move. And I looked down saw the knife,” said Guffey.

    The police arrived later and took Lynch into custody. Guffey said that his whole family got gun permits about a year ago, and he’s thankful now that he did, although he never planned on needing a gun.

    Deputies eventually arrived and took the suspect into custody.

    Ellen said she realized how scary the situation was after her adrenaline had worn off.

    The second story comes from an evidently cold Rochester, Minnesota where a man broke into a home to get warm and got a chilly reception;

    According to the report, the man said he heard someone smash the glass of his front door. When he investigated, he found the 21-year-old standing inside the house; the suspect demanded money. The homeowner told the intruder he was going to get his gun. The 21-year-old reportedly told him to “do what you gotta do.”

    The homeowner went to his bedroom — where he didn’t have a gun — and called his son, who lives nearby. The son arrived and found the suspect hiding near some outbuildings, the report says. He held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived.

    According to the report, the 21-year-old had a preliminary breath test result of 0.251. He later told authorities he’d been out drinking and had been kicked out of the car, so he was looking for a place to get warm.

    Another story comes from Ohio;

    Dispatchers received a call at approximately 2:10 p.m. of a burglary in progress. Deputies say the homeowner was in the residence at the time and had a gun. He shot at Willis multiple times, hitting him in the cheek and abdomen.

    According to deputies, Willis left the house and crashed his car into a ditch approximately half a mile from the home. He was airlifted to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

    Deputies say the homeowner did not know Willis.

    Rock, according to officers, retrieved his handgun and told Reese to leave.

    Police said that Reese aggressively approached Rock, so the 81-year-old man shot Reese.
    Officers said they do not expect Reese to survive his wounds.

    “I’m sure he did not want to shoot him. He’s not that kind of guy. As far as I’m concerned, he’s a very good neighbor,” said Cornelius.
