  • Tuesday morning feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories again this morning, they’re both from Texas today, the first from Liberty County, where a fellow decided to steal a camper without checking to see if it was occupado;

    James Brown of Liberty County, Texas, already had his handgun and cellphone in hand when he said he made his way toward his camper’s door upon waking around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday to suspicious sounds coming from outside.

    “They were getting it prepared to hook off and take off,” he told KHOU.

    Brown…opened his side door and leaned out with his loaded gun ready while his trailer tore out of his driveway and down the road.

    He missed the thief, but stopped the robbery.

    In Texas City, another fellow tried to break into a home by kicking at the door, until he saw a sign that said “Trespassers will be shot; Survivors will be shot again” and he changed his mind about committing the crime, apparently;

  • Monday morning feel good stories

    Monday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends both of stories this morning which come from Birmingham, Alabama. The first happened on Saturday;

    Lt. Sean Edwards states that the suspect came to the home earlier in the day, inquiring about a truck at the residence. He left after talking with the woman who lived in the home.

    He returned and approached the woman, who was outside. He then forced his way into the home, demanding money. The woman pulled a small handgun from a side pocket of her purse and shot the suspect in the hand.

    The second happened on Monday;

    When they arrived, they found a man on a front lawn suffering from several gunshot wounds to the chest. He was taken to UAB Hospital for surgery, but died from his injuries Friday evening. The victim has been identified as Jake Nelson, Jr., 37, of Birmingham.

    Police received information that the home where the shooting took place was burglarized but were told conflicting stories after talking to witnesses and the resident’s owner.

    By Thursday, they had cleared the shooter/victim;

    Edwards says homicide investigators presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Edwards says the district attorney’s office decided no charges will be filed. Evidence gathered during the investigation rendered the death of the victim as justifiable, according to Edwards.

  • Friday morning feel good stories

    Friday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories for this morning. The first is from Connecticut;

    Police said the robber walked into the Quick Food Mart at 305 New Haven Avenue around 11 p.m. Monday and shot an employee in the leg after demanding money

    That employee, Jehan Zeb, recounted the harrowing encounter Tuesday night. He’s sporting crutches but expected to be fine.

    “I see the pistol and at that time, he came here inside the register area and tell me, ‘Hands up and give me money,” Zeb said.

    The robber then fired two rounds, one of which hit him in the leg, he explained.

    “And the third time, they target my forehead,” Zeb said. He opened the register, then lunged at the robber and tussled with him for the gun.

    Zeb said he wrenched the pistol from the suspect’s grasp and the robber ran off. Only then did he realize blood was filling his shoes.

    The next comes from South Carolina;

    Captain Travis Tilson said investigators have determined the victim, 41-year-old Bradley Payne, of Walhalla, was standing outside the home threatening the homeowner prior to the shooting.

    Tilson said the homeowner retrieved a pistol and yelled for Payne to not enter the home.

    Payne then jerked open the screen door and entered the home, Tilson said.

    He said the homeowner shot Payne as he entered, striking him in the hip. The homeowner then called 911 and waited for deputies to arrive.

    “No criminal charges will be filed against the individual who shot Mr. Payne. South Carolina law is very clear in stating a man’s home is his castle. A homeowner has the right to protect themselves if they fear their life is in imminent danger,” said Sheriff Mike Crenshaw in a release.

    And Jeff wanted you to read this one from Indiana;

    Police say James Worthington pulled up to a gas station on a bike early Tuesday morning. They say he approached James Shelton as he was pumping gas and demanded money.

    Shelton says Worthington pointed a gun at him when he initially denied he had money. Then Shelton told Worthington he had $20 in his truck.

    Shelton instead grabbed a club and fought off the would-be robber.

    Police say they located Worthington and chased him down after he attempted to flee. Officers say they saw him toss a gun as he ran and it turned out to be a BB gun.

    Worthington is charged with attempted robbery, pointing a handgun and resisting law enforcement.

  • Thursday feel good story

    Thursday feel good story

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good story for this morning. This time it’s from Illinois;

    A customer was pistol-whipped during the robbery, and she and two employees got out as a police officer was arriving, after he was flagged down by several witnesses.

    The officer saw the robber running out the back, carrying a large duffel bag and a gun. When the suspect spotted the officer, he dropped the bag and ran away. The officer began chasing the suspect, but soon heard two gunshots, and he took cover, not knowing who was shooting.

    It turned out the man with the concealed carry permit had entered the store and fired at the suspect from the back door as the officer arrived.

    Crestwood police said the man with the concealed carry permit told investigators he was concerned for the officer’s safety when he saw him go behind the building after the robber went out the back door. No one was injured as a result of the gunfire.

    The next story comes from Tennessee where a thief and his intended victim exchanged gunfire;

    It happened around 8:20 a.m. at Jackson and Liberty, not far from the University of Louisville’s dental school and in front of an apartment complex. That’s where police say a man armed with a gun tried to rob another man, but that man had a gun, too.

    Investigators say the two shot each other. Both men were taken to University Hospital, but police tell us their injuries are not life-threatening. U of L confirms one of the victims is an employee at the dental school and is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

    WDRB 41 Louisville News

    The next story is from Florida where employees were spending the night in a Tobacco store because of previous break ins;

    “All I heard was glass breaking, and I just jumped up. It’s kind of a blur,” said Shane Hiser, who was sound asleep in the Smoke Shop when someone smashed his way in through the glass front door.

    Police identified the suspect as Dillon Trujillo, 22, and said he got into a confrontation with Hiser before Hiser shot Trujillo.

    Hiser said he thought Trujillo was armed and remembers having one thought go through his mind.

    “That it was him or me, and I was afraid for my life,” Hiser said.

    Trujillo was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said he stole something from the business before the confrontation, and will face burglary charges.

    “It appears at this point that the shooting is justified but obviously there’s still a lot that needs to be looked at and that’s something we’ll discuss with the State Attorney’s office,” said Andrea Davis, a TPD spokesperson.

  • Wednesday morning feel good story

    This morning’s feel good story comes from Tennessee where a not-very-sneaky teenager left the scene of his bad behavior with a few more holes than he came with;

    The investigation revealed that the homeowner saw a man walk past his front window, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release today. A short time later he heard tapping at the back bathroom window. He then saw a brick being thrown through the bathroom window. As the burglar was entering the bathroom window, the homeowner shot at the burglar, authorities said.

    The burglar went back out the window and ran, the release said.

    […]

    In the process of checking the area, deputies made contact with a 16-year-old boy on Denmark-Jackson Road who had two gunshot wounds to his arm. The teen was taken to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment. After the teen was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

  • Tuesday morning feel good stories

    Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories today, the first is from Minnesota where 34-year-old Benjamin Beaudoin tried to score a two-fer for himself. After getting his ass beat at the first home, he had to push his luck on a second break-in;

    The sheriff says Beaudoin first broke into a home around 5 a.m. about 15 miles south of International Falls. The homeowner retrieved a shotgun and struck Beaudoin over the head several times, breaking the stock off the shotgun according to the sheriff.

    The sheriff says Beaudoin then fled the scene to another home a few miles away where a 72-year-old woman let Beaudoin into her home. Jespersen says Beaudoin threw the woman to the ground and began beating and choking her.

    Jespersen says the woman’s 48-year-old son went to get a gun from his bedroom where Beaudoin lunged at him and was shot.

    Authorities rushed Beaudoin to Rainy Lake Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

    The next story comes from Georgia;

    The single mother and her three year old live in what she thought was a safe neighborhood. That is, until she returned home on Thursday afternoon and found it had been broken into.

    “I found things missing. They trashed the house, pulled out drawers,” Olearnick said. “They got in through the dog door.”

    One of those missing items was the spare key to her Jeep Wrangler. Petrified and trying to clean up the mess, Orlearnick says she kept her daughter and her weapon close by just in case a burglary came back. And they did the very next night.

    She adds “I heard the back gate open. You can hear it pretty loudly in the house. And it alerted me. So I went off my balcony to check and I saw a man getting into my car.”

    Olearnick says she told the burglar that she had a gun and demanded him to stop, but he continued backing out of her drive way. She says she was not letting the robber get away with anything else of hers.

    “[I] grabbed my gun, ran downstairs and ran out the front door and met him as he was backing out. So, I started firing,” Olearnick explains.

    Completely emptying the magazine in the Jeep and scaring the robber out through the passenger seat and running down the street.
