Jamie Fredericks, who shot and killed Robert Morgan on August 12, was justified in his actions according to the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor’s office released more information about the incident that occurred at 7311 Parle Avenue NE in Grattan Township, where one man was killed and another injured in a shooting. After interviewing several witnesses it was determined that Robert Morgan first encountered Macy Fredericks earlier in the night after she complained to Morgan about his reckless driving in the neighborhood. Macy Fredericks confronted Robert Morgan at a vacant lot near her home on Parle Avenue NE and Macy reported to police that Robert Morgan threatened her. Minutes after Macy returned home Morgan along with two passengers, Jake Morgan and Matthew Foster, reportedly drove the jeep into her yard.
Due to Robert Morgan’s threats Macy Fredericks woke up her husband Jamie Fredericks. Jamie told police he tried to calm the situation down but when he couldn’t he went and grabbed his gun from the house.
“Jamie Fredericks was justified in using deadly force,” said a statement by the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office. “There is no question that he faced a ‘sudden, fierce, and violent attack’ that morning by Robert Morgan. Mr. Morgan had driven his jeep onto the front lawn of Jamie’s home, and had been acting belligerently the entire night. Before ‘charging’ Jamie, Mr. Morgan had repeatedly threatened to harm him, his wife, and had expressed to people he asked to with him…when he went over to the house.”
It was when Robert Morgan charged Jamie Fredericks that Fredericks reportedly fired one shot into Morgan’s stomach. That one shot also struck Jake Morgan in the arm. Robert Morgan was later pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy revealed that Robert Morgan’s blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit.
According to officials, Jamie Fredericks was justified in his action because it was self defense and he was in possession of a valid CPL license.
“Under the law he is justified in using deadly force at this time,” said a statement by the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office. “He is in his home, he has been attacked, he does have a right to defend himself and his family when the attack takes him inside his home.”
The statement goes on to say “This was an incredible tragedy. One person is dead, another, who from evidence presented to this office did nothing more than go with his uncle to the home, and who may have tried to stop his uncle from attacking Jamie, was shot in the arm. This is a lesson in what can happen when an individual consumes too much alcohol; under normal circumstances Mr. Morgan would most likely have not acted the way he did that night.”
No charges will be filed against Jamie Fredericks.
A man suspected of trying to rob another man and his girlfriend during a transaction that began on line, was shot and killed outside a Garland home.
It happened Sunday, September 9, just after 10:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of Hawaii Drive.
Garland Police said when officers responded to a shooting call, they found an unidentified man shot in the front yard where Quan Tran and his girlfriend had been waiting. Police believe the unidentified man showed up at the home to rob Tran, 23, and his girlfriend. Detectives said Tran and his girlfriend were in front of the home waiting to purchase a camera that was being sold online by someone they did not know.
While they were outside, the man approached them with a gun demanding money. Police said he “began assaulting Tran, threatening to shoot him and his girlfriend. Tran produced a handgun and shot the robbery suspect.”
This is an ongoing investigation. No criminal charges have been filed at this point.
Dave’s not here, man. He’s probably out getting plywood for the windows. Whatever happened to storm shutters? Did those go out of fashion? So here’s what I have:
Wess Arnold, 35, is accused of killing Ta’anda Hall and setting her second-floor apartment on fire in the 1300 block of West 57th Street around 12:10 a.m. on July 12.
Hall, 38, was discovered in a bedroom. An investigation determined her death was a homicide.
Arnold was arrested in Waukegan on Wednesday and the charges were approved on Thursday, acording to Officer Michael Carroll, a Chicago police spokesman. Arnold has two prior convictions. One from 2011 for aggravated battery and another in 2004 for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
I won’t say this is “open and shut”, but I hope he gets to go to the Big House for this episode of violence.
Brendan ‘Speedy’ Fegan has become the latest drug dealer to die in Northern Ireland. Chief Reporter DARWIN TEMPLETON examines his life of crime and the theories surrounding his death.
BRENDAN ‘Speedy’ Fegan spent his life trying to stay one step ahead of an assassin. Yesterday one group of enemies finally caught up with him.
As a major player in the drugs trade on both sides of the border, there were a lot of people who wanted him dead.
Rival dealers eyed his extensive empire enviously. There were many criminals eager to step into his designer boots.
Then, there were the faceless money men whose cash helped Fegan finance the huge consignments of cannabis and Ecstasy he smuggled into Ireland.
Over the last year (1998-1999), Speedy had suffered heavy losses at the hands of the Gardai and RUC drug squads. A lot of money had been lost and there were rumblings that Speedy was in trouble with powerful backers.
His latest setback may have come on Friday, when Gardai seized £800,000 of cannabis in Balbriggan.
And of course, the paramilitary godfathers were keeping a watchful eye on his activities.
He had been warned to stay out of his home town of Newry and had personally threatened local republicans during flare-ups.
Security sources suspect he may have been prepared to pay up to keep them off his back.
In the background, there were always whispers that Speedy was in cahoots with the police.
Only 24, Fegan entered the drugs underworld as a henchman for drugs baron Paddy Farrell, who was later shot dead by his mistress.
The man who earned his nickname for his manic driving during high-speed car chases with police on one occasion driving the wrong way down the hard shoulder ofthe M1 had contacts with the gang who murdered Dublin journalist Veronica Guerin in 1996.
It’s thought that members of the gang who fled to Amsterdam after the killing kept open the supply routes.
But Fegan knew well the possible consequences of his involvement in drugs.
Weeks ago, he was shot during a failed murder bid in Belfast’s Golden Mile, which was blamed on a rival dealer.
Last February, his pal Brendan Campbell was shot dead in Belfast, a month after he had survived another murder bid.
Both had watched with unease as the IRA, under the guise of Direct Action Against Drugs, launched a bloody purge of alleged drug dealers in 1995 and 1996, murdering eight people.
But with reported profits of up to £50,000 a week, Speedy was hooked on the cash and the lifestyle it brought.
He had a string of properties; police had a baffling list of addresses for him and he was fond of the trappings of the high- life.
The only picture in circulation of Fegan shows him in the back of a hired limo with Brendan Campbell, on their way to the races. Around his neck is a chunky gold necklace and the key tool of his trade, the mobile phone, is lying on his lap. Both men enjoyed the fruits of their ill- gotten gains, but have since paid the ultimate price. – Source: Belfast Telegraph
A home intruder, believed who police say has been breaking into homes on Hall Road in Elizabethtown for a few days, was shot in the head by an elderly homeowner Friday morning, police say. The suspect, whose named wasn’t released as of Saturday afternoon, was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville with non-life threatening injuries.
Kentucky State Police Post 4 spokesman Scotty Sharp said troopers already were working another burglary in the area when a call came in from the homeowner’s wife that her husband had shot a male intruder.
In a matter of minutes, authorities were on the scene at a home in the corner of a large property along a narrow road lined with tall trees. Sharp said as of Saturday afternoon the suspect has not been charged, but charges are expected. He said once the man is charged, his name will be released. He said the homeowner will not face charges. According to a KSP Post 4 news release, the suspect “forcefully gained entry into the residence.” KSP received a call at 11:52 a.m. “stating her husband had shot a male subject after he entered their residence.”
The suspect was placed on a gurney, transported to a waiting helicopter that landed on the homeowner’s property and was flown to Louisville. Sharp also said authorities Thursday were called to the area of Hall Road on a report of a suspicious person in the area. “We were not able to locate anyone,” Sharp said, of Thursday’s report.
In addition to KSP, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Hardin County EMS responded to the shooting scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Columbus Police are now searching for a crook who walked off with hundreds of dollars worth of cigarette cartons from a North Columbus convenience store. “They take Newports, some other flavors,” said Mohamed Razzaq, as he showed the empty shelves inside a storage room at Busch Center Smokes & More on Boardwalk Street.
Store surveillance cameras capture a stranger walking through the business on Labor Day, and then sneak into the storage room while no one was watching. Razzaq tells ABC 6/FOX 28 he confronted the thief when he noticed the culprit had cigarette cartons hidden inside his pants. “I say you have cigarettes, why you go in my office and take cigarettes, ” said Razzaq, ” he say no, I haven’t.”
Video shows the two men get into a scuffle inside the store. At one point, Razzaq can be seen waving a gun at the suspect.
“He go into my office, its my private property,” said Razzaq, when we asked why he pulled out a weapon. The thief attempts to run out the back door but quickly returns to the display cases when he cannot get outside. When the thief makes a break for the front door, Razzaq is waiting for him. After a second tussle between the two, the thief manages to slip away.
“If he is bad people, he go to jail,” said Razzaq.
A police officer was called to meet a woman at a Denton hospital. She told him she’d been shot, and her landlord drove her to the hospital.
As the officer questioned the woman, he discovered she had wounded herself. She said she’d been handling an unloaded .380 caliber pistol, and shot herself in the hand.
She conceded the weapon must have been loaded after all.
The woman will recover and no charges have been filed.
After being caught in the middle of an armed robbery, police say a Las Vegas woman’s quick thinking helped her disarm the suspect who had taken her as a hostage.
Experts say it was a risky move, but it’s one that paid off because it appears she had experience with firearms. That one thing may have saved her life. “We know that he’s armed with two guns,” said Sutton. “He’s holding his pistol to the victim dragging her out.” But the woman quickly turns the tables on the suspect who has been identified as 27-year-old Mario Trejo.
“He’s got the wrong victim here,” said Sutton. “First of all she is exceedingly courageous and second she’s familiar with a firearm.” The video shows the woman confidently disarming the suspect and then running away giving police officers a clear shot. “It’s very rare for a civilian who is in that kind of situation to basically take aggressive action,” Sutton said. “And that’s what she did. She did a fantastic job! She’s a hero.”
Jeanette Morgan is the program director of the Annie Oakley Women’s Shooting Program in Las Vegas.
“I’m glad she was able to drop magazine, clear it and able to run away,” said Morgan.
A jury has found a man not guilty of murder in a shooting death after an argument in a South Carolina Waffle House.
Eric Nixon’s lawyer said he feared for his life in February 2017 when he shot 28-year-old Wayne Bell in the parking lot of the Columbia restaurant.
Witnesses testified that Nixon went after Bell, but defense lawyer Micah Leddy told The State newspaper a video from a bystander showed Bell following Nixon into the parking lot after the argument.
Prosecutors told jurors Nixon acted like a guilty man when he didn’t call 911, changed his clothes and hid the gun after the shooting.
But Leddy says all that mattered for self-defense was how Nixon felt when Bell aggressively came toward him with his hands in his back pockets.
Times of Israel reports a member of the Hamas security forces was killed Wednesday in an accidental explosion in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian terror group reported.
The military wing of Hamas announced the man was Abdel Rahim Abbas, 42, a local commander of the Hamas security forces.
The Hamas-run Gaza interior ministry said the explosion happened at the administrative headquarters for the police’s bomb disposal unit and was a result of explosive materials catching on fire during an inspection.
Police and civil defense units extinguished the fire caused by the explosion, the ministry added.
A Hamas security source said he was trying to neutralize an Israeli munition.
Self-inflicted wound, or a successful Israeli assassination? Guess we’ll never know for sure, but in the end it really doesn’t matter.

Suspected thief in Colorado drops gun, loses pants in botched robbery
A suspect was left running from an e-cigarette shop in Colorado with his pants falling down after what police are calling a botched robbery. Security camera footage shows a man walking into the store on Sept. 2 and attempting to take out what police later said was a replica handgun. But it ends up flying over the counter instead. “The BB gun, with the orange tip removed, fell onto the floor where the clerk grabs it,” Aurora police said in a Facebook post.
Video captures the surprise on the suspect’s face as the gun makes its way over the counter. The suspect attempts to climb over the counter, before appearing to change his mind. He runs back out the door. He is then seen losing his pants before going off screen. The clerk then goes to the door and appears to lock it.
Police released the video in hopes of identifying the suspect and arresting him. The owner of the store told the Denver Post he was surprised by the footage. “I don’t want to downplay the seriousness of an armed robbery, but the guy really does belong in the ‘world’s dumbest criminals,’” Chris Burgess said. “He needs to find a new career.” He added store policy is to give suspected armed robbers “whatever they want.” He said in this situation, the clerk reacted appropriately. Officers obtained the replica gun in question and say they’re hoping to obtain fingerprints from it to help in the investigation.
