  • Seattle woman finds IED on her car

H1 sends a link to an article from Seattle that is a little skimpy on details, but a woman found an explosive device on her fuel tank while she was out doing her errands. The police say she removed the device and put in on her car and then called the police.

I don’t think I would have removed it. I’m no demo expert – except that I know how to apply the “P” principle to destroy stuff (P = plenty).

Police Cmdr. Mike Hirman tells The Seattle Times that officers confirmed the item was an improvised explosive device. No one was hurt.

The woman found a fused device with tape around it attached to her gas cap. Police say she took it off and put it on top of her car, then called police.

A bomb squad neutralized the device.

I’m checking my gas cap as soon as I get off work.

  • Detroit Police; Enter Detroit at your own risk

    Fox News reports that the Detroit police greeted fans at the Tigers game with handbills that warned them to stay out of Detroit;

As they poured into Comerica Park, fans were given the fliers reading: “Attention: Enter Detroit at Your Own Risk.” It warned that Detroit is America’s most violent city and that the city’s police force is grossly understaffed.

“We’re not discouraging people from coming, I love the city, I want them to realize we don’t have enough man hours,” police union president Joe Duncan told the station. “I don’t think the city is going to get same officer 8 hours a day as you do for 12 hours a day.”

  • May Issue or No Issue? A Veteran’s Path to Getting a Legal Gun in NYC

First, I’d like to give all the credit for this idea to Emily Miller of the Washington Times, for her very well-written series “Emily Gets Her Gun,” [1][2][3][4][5], (for a start), about her attempt, as a law-abiding citizen, to get a permit and a weapon in the nation’s capitol.

Like Emily, with rising violence and crime in the streets, I don’t feel safe. My neighborhood had a serial rapist that the police never caught, and I’ve witnessed three muggings in the last year, all from too far away to help even when I started running to get up. I had to break up a fight between two machete-wielding homeless guys on a train armed with…my words, not the best choice. (For future reference, apparently if you ask “Is there a problem here, gentlemen?” they think you’re a cop.)

I’m an Army veteran with an honorable record. I have numerous firearms qualifications and training. I’ve never been convicted of any crimes. I was arrested once as a juvenile for being in a park past curfew: charges were dismissed. I’ve had a few tickets for speeding, which I paid. I’m a decent shot. I know gun safety. And now, I’d like to obtain a firearm for my home and to carry with me to protect myself and my family.

Only one problem: New York City, and Mayor Bloomberg. Mayor Bloomberg has never been a fan of guns, but in the wake of the Aurora shooting he’s gotten even more nuts.

My goalposts may move, but here are my starters, which certainly don’t seem unreasonable to me:

Would like to acquire (but do not currently possess):
legal permits to have one rifle and one handgun in a NYC residence,
NYC concealed carry permit for a handgun.
rifle: M16 or something similar – it’s what I know.
handgun: 1911, widely acknowledged as the finest gun ever made.

For those who are easily amused, I’m the “token lefty” on this site. I was a precinct captain for Kerry. I have only the barest familiarity with the process of obtaining a gun in this country.

So hold onto your beer and watch this shit.

  • Sunday feel-good story

    Cortillaen sends us a link to a Sunday feel good story about a 14-year-old in Phoenix, AZ who was watching his three elementary-school aged siblings when a woman began ringing his the doorbell at his home. He herded the younger kids upstairs and armed himself with the family firearm;

When he got to the top of the stairs, he saw a man break through the front door and point a gun at him.

The boy shot the 37-year-old man, who was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition and underwent surgery. The man was upgraded to critical condition and is expected to survive and be booked into jail within the week on counts of aggravated assault and burglary, Holmes said.

He said the suspect did not get a shot off. He declined to release his name until he is booked into jail.

The woman who rang the home’s doorbell got away.

    I guess the part to really feel good about is the Phoenix police reaction to the shooting;

[Phoenix police Officer James Holmes] hailed the teen’s actions and his parents for teaching the kids to never open the door to strangers.

“The police and indeed our community does not ever want to see a situation where a teenager of that age has to take a weapon to protect his family … but this young man did exactly what he should have done,” he said. “I’m not sure he gave full thought about what he had to do. He just acted.”

So, parents, make sure you train your kids to use your firearms, and train them when to use it. I was 14 when I got my first gun.

  • Army reject kills five, self, in Seattle

Ian Stawicki, a 40-year-old former soldier, shot five people in Seattle yesterday before killing himself as the Seattle Police Department closed in on him. He started his shooting spree in a cafe in the University District by shooting five people, one of whom survived, before heading downtown and killing a seemingly random woman in a car jacking. His family didn’t express any surprise and described him as having mental problems and “a lot of anger”. According to the local ABC News affiliate, KOMO, Stawicki did a brief stint in the Army in the early 90’s and was based at Fort Drum before being discharged as “unsuitable” for the military.

When his identity first broke and before any history of his time in the Army came out KOMO ran the picture of him above, wearing a gray Army PT shirt. KOMO also went out of their way to mention that he suffered hearing loss from a grenade going off near his head during training, presumably to set up the narrative of Stawicki suffering from some sort of service induced PTSD. This narrative is already being diligently picked up on by some commentators. We’ll see if there’s any further attempt to beat this meme to death.

And, in the tradition of never letting a good tragedy go to waste, Jonathan Golob and the always petulantly fussy David Goldstein, both of alt weekly Seattle paper The Stranger, used the “opportunity” to attack “right-wing propagandists” and the Second Amendment, quite literally while the bodies were still warm. Their solutions are, of course, right down the center of The Stranger’s extremist, left-wing Progressive statism, calling for a larger welfare apparatus (but not “inhumanly” institutionalizing crazy people) and restricting law abiding people’s access to guns. Stay classy, guys.

  • OWS/Black Bloc Hippies Show “Courage”

Coming to us yesterday from the the Chicago Sun-Times is a story about our brave intrepid hippie warriors who decided they’d blow off a little steam between throwing “I was there” medals, plotting to blow up shit, and generally being worthless malodorous dickheads to attack some unarmed, innocent diners:

Police call the melee at the restaurant a targeted assault by a mob that Winston said wielded metal batons and hammers. Ten diners were hurt in the attack, and three of those were hospitalized.

Tinley Park police had five suspected assailants in custody, and Winston said 18 young men, all wearing hooded jackets and obscuring their faces with scarves and other coverings, stormed into the restaurant.

“They came running in the door single file,” said Winston, who owns Ashford House, 7959 W. 159th St., and the adjacent Winston’s Market.

Winston, and police, said the men knew who their targets were, and that the attack wasn’t a random act of violence. Winston said the mob “targeted” a group of 20 diners, all of whom were from out of state.

Now I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and make a little observation. As of a few months ago when WI went from no-issue to shall-issue, this leaves Illinois as the only state in the nation which does not allow concealed carry.

Anyone here want to guess as to whether or not they’d pull this shit in a place where CCW was 1–allowed, 2–likely?

Those little hooded shitbags might have come into the restaurant single-file, but even with their hoodies, masks, hammers, and police batons, as soon as they found themselves facing some pissed off patrons willing to dump a couple of hundred grains of P+ .45 hollowpoint into their sorry meatsack carcasses, they sure as hell would be piling over each other in a mad rush to GTFO before they were carted out in rubber bags.

    YMMV.

  • May Day riots unfolding in Seattle

An organized riot started today as protesters stormed into Seattle Central Community College, the location of the now evicted Occupy Seattle camp. From the Community College the protesters joined with a mass of bicyclists who “swarmed” the roads to block traffic for the march down to Westlake Center. After regrouping there they moved down Denny and Pine Streets, attacking stores and cars as they clashed with police. Once Black Bloc and Marxist protesters reached the Federal Courthouse firebombs were thrown at the front of the building as rioters attacked windows and doors. Nobody is reporting it yet but a young man, possibly an adolescent, with Down’s Syndrome was waiving a red flag as he beat on windows and doors with a club of some kind. At least one car was trapped and destroyed as its occupants fled their attackers.

The attacks were obviously very well coordinated. As police responded to one set of attacks another group of Black Bloc and red flag waiving rioters would immediately attack another. This is a coordinated attack by left-wing extremists on the city of Seattle and its citizens. I’m working on pictures now but I’m not sure of the quality as they’re being taken by a friend in the thick of it.

UPDATE: Many police have been resisting making arrests, even on rioters they witnessed attacking property. One guy said he saw them stand aside as rioters moved past.

    UPDATE #2:

Here’s the mentally handicapped Marxist facing down a vigilante dressed as a super hero. If that doesn’t just sum up how screwed we all are I don’t know what does. Credit to the Seattle Times.

  • JBLM Pvt stabbed to death off base

The hits keep on coming for JBLM.

Twenty-nine year old 5th Stryker Brigade Private Nathaniel Ollis was found stabbed to death at his off base apartment. He was a married father of three pending separation at the time of his death. When he was a Pfc he survived an IED blast in Iraq that killed three of his fellow soldiers and left him badly wounded.

I’m unsure of the nature of his discharge or the exact circumstances of his death and I won’t echo the grusome details, those so interested can follow the link. After a police chase of the two losers who killed him came this:

After Olympia detectives arrested the suspects, one of them told a detective that he and others helped clean blood from the crime scene Friday on Lilly Road. He said he was “masterminding” the cleanup efforts because “I’m the smartest one.” The same suspect told detectives that he was injecting methamphetamine during the police pursuit Sunday on I-5.

I looked these two dipshits up but until I’m sure the guys I found are in fact the guilty parties I won’t post any of their information.

My sincere condolences to his family.
