  • 3 More Get Their Punishment

Three more Navy personnel have been indicted in the ongoing Fat Leonard case.

    https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2018/08/19/feds-indict-three-more-in-ongoing-fat-leonard-scandal/

    From the article:

A federal grand jury in San Diego on Friday charged three retired sailors — a captain and two senior enlisted personnel — in the ongoing Fat Leonard corruption scandal.

Unsealed indictments allege that Capt. David Williams Haas, 50, took at least $145,000 in bribes from Leonard Glenn “Fat Leonard” Francis, the Malaysian tycoon and defense contractor who since his late 2013 arrest in a San Diego sting has ratted out a string of corrupt sailors who steered ships to his port services.

The portly Francis plied commanders and other key figures with cash, “Thai SEAL team” prostitutes, luxury resort rooms and other perks in order to bilk $35 million from American taxpayers.

Prosecutors have charged 32 defendants and 20 have pleaded guilty to public corruption charges over the past five years.

Separate indictments released Friday targeted retired Master Chief Petty Officer Ricarte Icmat David, 61, and retired Chief Petty Officer Brooks Alonzo Parks for allegedly taking other perks from Francis.

Thanks to AW1Ed for the heads up on this.

  • Wednesday Feel Good Stories

This was sent by AW1Ed. It’s the only one this morning.

“SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The fatal shooting of Titus Ellington at the Castle Point Apartments in July 2018 was a justifiable homicide and no charges will be filed, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.”

    https://www.abc57.com/news/home-invasion-suspects-death-a-justifiable-homicide

I’m sure there are more, so please inflict them on Dave Hardin, who is probably still in a daze and bumping into furniture from his trek.

  • Tuesday Morning Feel Somewhat Good Stories

Looks like the Soviet didn’t wake up Dave Hardin, so the usual crime stories haven’t come up yet. Much of this is local, so please bear with me.

From the Bannockburn PD: A Wisconsin man was charged with aggravated felony misuse of a weapon by the Bannockburn, IL, police.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/deerfield/news/ct-dfr-blotter-bannockburn-gun-charge-tl-0823-story.html#nt=oft13a-1gp1

James L. Blackwell, 24, of Milwaukee, was originally arrested July 22, according to a Bannockburn Police report.

Police and the Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Protection District were sent to a gas station at the southeast corner of Waukegan and Half Day roads to investigate smoke coming from a vehicle, according to the report.

During their investigation, police learned the car was stolen, according to the report. An officer safety alert was issued because Blackwell is affiliated with the Gangster Disciples and had a criminal history with weapons and assault offenses, police said.

Per the article, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office approved his being charged with a lack of an FOID. I’m not sure that will stick, if Blackwell is a resident of Wisconsin, but imagine being a gangbanger and trying to get an FOID. Think about it for a moment. If that doesn’t make you fall down laughing, nothing will.

I’ve been following this since it first appeared, and I’m glad to see this individual termed “unfit” by the legal system. He and his dingbat wife kept their 10-year-old daughter locked in the basement of their home because they thought she was demonically possessed. Unfit in the state of Illinois means he has to spend time in a state-approved facility before he faces trial.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/lake-county-news-sun/news/ct-lns-swopes-fitness-hearing-0822-story.html

In other words, she was probably a normal, energetic, bright young girl and they couldn’t deal with it.

And why we’re getting Chicago news from the UK is beyond me, but this story has 60 people getting shot over the weekend, 29 people getting arrested for gun violence, and CPI Police Chief saying it’s the same people doing this.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/chicago-shootings-latest-violence-gun-crime-police-2018-child-a8499726.html

Also one of the shooting victims was a 3-year-old child, and the likelihood that any of these guns were bought by FOID gun owners is ludicrous.

  • Florida Man Charged in Stand Your Ground Shooting

This one seems to be a puzzler. Several factors are involved here, so before you post something emotionally charged, consider this:

1 – Florida has a ‘stand your ground’ statute on the books, in place since 2005, prior to the Zimmerman (Latino?) shooting of Trayvon Martin (Black) and everything that followed.

2 – Unless otherwise informed, I believe almost all states do have a self-defense statute on the books. Even Illinois, with its tight-assed gun regulations, has that on the books.

3 – In this case, Drejka is white and McGlockton, the deceased, is black. Both of them have/had volatile tempers and were/are quick to pick a quarrel.

4 – Elections come up in a few months.

5 – CNN appears to be attempting to influence a court procedure, a very bad thing to do.  How can a jury be impartial if media source like CNN has prejudiced potential jurors against accused persons? Article 8 of the US Constitution, 5th and 6th Amendments are all impinged by such an attempt.

The original decision was to not arrest Drejka, based on the self-defense “stand your ground” statute, after McGlockton shoved him to the ground.

CNN has published an article in which it says that Drejka has a history of making threats toward other people.  https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/14/us/florida-stand-your-ground-previous-incidents/index.html

Apparently, the busybodies at CNN are determined to create a major incident, possibly including racist stuff, out of something that was a squabble which turned into a shoving match and someone got killed.

CNN’s attempts to try Drejka and fry him in the media, instead of letting the justice system do its job, are obviously based on their agenda to promote antagonism and magnify reactionary behavior to events, with no consideration for the real outcome.

Would they have spent so much time on this if McGlockton had been a white man, and/or if Drejka used a knife instead of a gun?

This is Reuter’s report on this incident:  https://www.reuters.com/article/us-florida-shooting/florida-man-charged-in-stand-your-ground-shooting-officials-idUSKBN1KY1VG

Reuters is simply reporting the facts of this event, not attempting to promote an opinion in you, the reader.  So this brings up an important subject: freedom of the press.

Is it more important to let CNN run with its attempts to stir up controversy and trouble,  a clear indicator that they have a hidden agenda, instead of shutting them up? Is their obvious bias toward causing trouble going to show not just overt prejudice, but also a very obvious attempt to influence the judicial system and the outcome of real-world trials?

If CNN, and others of their ilk, try someone in the press – nothing new, by the way, it has happened for a long time – who will be able to get a fair trial? And should CNN, et al., be held responsible for such interference when/if evidence is found to show that an accused person was, in fact, NOT the guilty party, despite their attempts to hang him high? This, also, is not something new.

Since it appears to me that CNN is doing everything possible to hang Drejka to keep him from getting a fair trial, what is the solution to their miscreance?

  • Two Villains As Yet Unhung

Last week, a 58-year-old man in Lake Villa was beaten to death in an alley behind Walgreen’s on his way home from a purchase at a local store.

    https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180723/two-charged-with-murder-of-lake-villa-man

Authorities have charged Lake Villa Township residents Jordan L. Toney, 19, of the 39000 block North Poplar Street, and Buddy W. Johnson, 20, of the 21600 block of West Birch Street, with three counts of first-degree murder. They are held in Lake County jail on $5 million bail, authorities said.

Authorities say they have now identified the 58-year-old man who was the victim of a fatal beating and robbery Saturday in an alley near downtown Lake Villa.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Jerry Griffith of Lake Villa died from multiple traumatic injuries after the attack near the 300 block of Grand Avenue, Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said Wednesday.

    https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180725/authorities-identify-victim-of-fatal-beating-in-lake-villa-alley

These two geniuses decided that they would find a victim in someone who was least likely to be able to resist them. Like any other predators, they waited for the right moment and beat Mr. Griffith to death when he was on his way home from a local store, robbed him, and dropped a 40 lb. sandbag on his head before they left him there.

The mug shots in the articles show us what charming fellows they must be.

Lake Villa is a sleepy, quiet suburban bedroom community which used to have a low crime rate. That has changed lately. Unfortunately, the element of surprise was at work here.

If you think a gun might have stopped this, I would say it’s rather doubtful in this case. It’s more likely that they’d have stolen the gun along with Mr. Griffith’s wallet and keys.  He certainly did not deserve what they did to him.

  • Citizen Comes to Aid of Officer

    police line

Not a true “Feel Good” story, but a nice start to a Saturday morning. A citizen comes to the aid of a Provo, Utah, police officer, as a Body Cam shows, by apprehending and body slamming the suspect on concrete.

Breitbart News gives us the video, which begins by showing an officer walking around at a gas station checking vehicle occupants in search for a suspect in a gray shirt.

He talks to one individual, concludes he is not the suspect, then turns to see the suspect walking across the parking lot.

The officer approaches the suspect and asks if he is alright, citing a call that the suspect had allegedly been walking around asking for water.

The suspect quickly becomes agitated and allegedly reaches for something on the officer’s belt, then resists arrest when the officer grabs his arm.

The officer and the suspect grapple before the suspect breaks free and runs. The officer gives chase and a citizen intervenes:

    Cop Cam

Nice open field tackle, and thanks from the officer.

  • Dean Crouch tackles armed thief, then he’s fired by Academy Sports

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Dean Crouch, the manager of the local Academy Sports store, tackled Jason White as White sprinted from the store with a stolen handgun. He had ammunition and magazines in his backpack when he was subdued by Crouch.

“Academy has decided to, instead of treating him like the hero he is, they terminated his employment effective immediately because he put his hands on Mr. White,” Crouch’s attorney Ryan Hobbs said.

Just hours before he was taken into custody, White stole two handguns from Cash America Pawn on South Adams Street, according to Tallahassee Police.

White asked to look at the handgun at the firearms counter [in Academy]. He was handed the gun, then ran toward the front door.

Crouch, who court records say observed the transaction at the counter, and another employee tackled and subdued White at the exit doors and recovered the gun, a stolen backpack, five boxes of ammunition and two magazines for the Glock.

    Academy Sports hid behind the “personnel issues” excuse to avoid the media;

“While the incident ended without injury, actions inconsistent with corporate policies were taken,” [Academy Sports spokeswoman Elise Hasbrook] said. “We addressed the matter with the local store and individuals involved.”

Crouch worked at the store for more than two years and is married with a family and has no way to support them.

Company policy or no, someone needed to take action to stop a madman from running around town with a loaded gun and Mr Crouch did something.

  • Ranchers Dwight and Steven Hammond pardoned

Ranchers Dwight and Steven Hammond pardoned

The Associated Press reports that the father-son team of ranchers, Dwight and Steven Hammond, whose imprisonment sparked the Malheur Valor Thief Convention in Oregon in 2016, were pardoned by President Trump.

A sympathetic judge had sentenced the pair to reduced imprisonment terms, but prosecutors won an appeal that sentenced the ranchers to sentencing minimum of 5 years terms.

In a statement Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders called that decision to resentence the Hammonds “unjust.”

“The Hammonds are devoted family men, respected contributors to their local community, and have widespread support from their neighbors, local law enforcement, and farmers and ranchers across the West,” she said. “Justice is overdue for Dwight and Steven Hammond, both of whom are entirely deserving of these Grants of Executive Clemency.”

The Hammonds asked the valor thieves at Malheur to abandon their pointless occupation of the National Wildlife Refuge, but their pleas were largely ignored by the occupiers.
