  • Massa threatens to rescind resignation

    My cousin Scott sends me this from Roll Call about Scott’s soon-to-be-former Congressman, Eric Massa;

    Responding to a caller to his weekly radio show on WKPQ Power 105 FM, a recording of which was made available via the Web site of local station 13 WHAM-TV, Massa said: “I’m not going to be a Congressman as of 5 o’clock [Monday] afternoon. The only way to stop that is for me to rescind my resignation. That’s the only way to stop it. And the only way that’s going to happen is if this becomes a national story.”

    During the hour-and-a-half show, Massa said that Democratic leaders are using the House ethics committee to get him out of office before the vote on health care because he voted against the House health care bill last fall.

    Well, he voted against the healthcare bill because it wasn’t “robust” enough for his liking according to Fox News;

    Massa, who supports a robust government health insurance plan, was one of 39 House Democrats who voted against the health care bill last year.

    So he’s really no sympathetic hero in all of this – he wants both the public option and single-payer plan. Fox also details the incident that put on the ropes for a sexual harassment charge;

    Massa said he had just gotten up to sing Auld Lang Syne and had finished dancing with the bride and bridesmaid — in full view of cameras — when he sat back down at a table with male staff members.

    That’s when he made the “inappropriate” remark.

    “One of them looked at me and, as they would do after, I don’t know, 15 gin and tonics, and goodness only knows how many bottles of champagne, a staff member made an intonation to me that maybe I should be chasing after the bridesmaid, and his points were clear and his words were far more colorful than that.

    “And I grabbed the staff member sitting next to me and said, ‘Well, what I really ought to be doing is fracking you,’” he said.

    That ain’t so bad, if it’s true, but it does show poor judgement on his part. Yeah, you can probably chalk it up to his Navy years, but I can’t imagine an officer in my chain of command doinng soemthing like that.

    And like I said last week, I don’t care why he’s gone, I’m just glad he’s gone. Well, if the Democrat leadership doesn’t screw up his resignation.

  • Massa resigns

    I read yesterday at Ace of Spades that Eric Massa, has resigned effective Monday. Of course, he claims it was another bout with cancer that did it. But it was two bouts of cancer that got him elected in the first place.

    Of course, after his initial denial of a sexual harassment charge, he admits it;

    “I am guilty,” Massa said in an interview with a Corning, N.Y., newspaper columnist.

    Later in the day, Massa released a statement saying that after discovering he had a recurrence of cancer, he learned he was the subject of an ethics complaint by a male staffer who felt “uncomfortable” during an exchange with Massa. The exchange reportedly had sexual overtones.

    One of our readers, Jetty, who happens to live in Massa’s district pointed me to Bob Lonsberry, a local journalist, and his recounting of Massa tales from his Navy days;

    In one instance, Eric Massa was a lieutenant commander and the combat systems officer of the USS Jouett. That made him the third-ranking officer on the boat – behind the captain and the executive officer.

    According to another officer on the ship, Massa and a lieutenant were on liberty in the Middle East. Massa had made the motel arrangements and the room turned out to have only one bed. The lieutenant reportedly told other officers on the ship that while they were in the room, Massa came up behind him and started massaging his neck and shoulders.

    The lieutenant, shocked by this conduct from a higher-ranking officer, shrugged it off, literally.

    In the night, he later told shipmates, he was awakened by Massa’s hands in his shorts. The lieutenant was startled and turned away. Massa rolled over and pretended to be asleep.

    Whether that happened or not, only two people know. But the story was known on the ship and was passed to me by a fellow officer and graduate of the Naval Academy.

    Lonsberry recounts more of Massa’s bizarre behavior at the link. Consider this a kick in Massa’s fat ass on his way out the door.

  • And another one’s gone

    I wrote about NY Congressman Eric Massa (D-29) last year when he told local media “I will vote adamantly against the interests of my district if I actually think what I am doing is going to be helpful. I will vote against their opinion if I actually believe it will help them.”

    Well it seems the little turd is floating out of the bowl;

    Rep. Eric Massa is poised to announce this afternoon that he will not seek re-election in the 29th Congressional District this fall as planned, a Democratic source confirms.

    The freshman congressman is going to make his announcement at 3 p.m., according to the source. It’s unclear if that event is taking place in the district or in Wahsington, D.C. A call to Massa’s spokesman has so far not been returned.

    UPDATE: Massa’s office says he will be speaking with the press on a “very important” conference call at 3:30 p.m. He’s in Washington.

    Rumors are that he’s been accused of sexually harassing a male staff member;

    According to several House aides on both sides of the aisle, the House ethics committee has been informed of allegations that Massa, who is married with two children, sexually harassed a male staffer.

    Massa told POLITICO Wednesday afternoon that no one has brought allegations of misconduct to him.

    Asked about the sexual harassment allegations, Massa said: “When someone makes a decision to leave Congress, everybody says everything. I have health issues. I’ll talk about it [later].”

    Health issues like getting a man’s belt buckle imprinted on his giant-ass forehead. I don’t care why he’s leaving, just that he’ll be gone. He was such an pompous, arrogant ritard, he’s virtually insured there will never ever be a Democrat in that seat.

    Thanks for your service now go the fuck away, Ric, ya little homo.

    UPDATED: COB6 emailed me that bone smuggler Massa was one of the Vote Vets-sponsored candidates in the last election. Wesley Clark even stumped for him in New York. Is that egg on your face?

    No wonder dicksmith has been pushing for the repeal of DADT.

    Yup, he announced his “retirement” while I was writing this. I hope his wife slaps the living shit out of him every-damn-day.

  • Obama extends some PATRIOT Act provisions

    Associated Press reports that the President has extended some of the provisions with which Democrats, including Campaign Obama, beat up the previous administration and Republicans, in general.

    Three sections of the Patriot Act that stay in force will:

    –Authorize court-approved roving wiretaps that permit surveillance on multiple phones.

    –Allow court-approved seizure of records and property in anti-terrorism operations.

    –Permit surveillance against a so-called lone wolf, a non-U.S. citizen engaged in terrorism who may not be part of a recognized terrorist group.

    Obama’s signature comes after the House voted 315 to 97 Thursday to extend the measure.

    I’m certainly not complaining that the provisions were kept alive, for the sake of our national security. However, I sure wish the Democrats had been honest about their intentions over the last eight or nine years in regards to this and not used the issue to agitate the tin-foil hat crowd. It does illustrate the Democrats’ dishonesty with their own constituents. Not that the idiots will stop sending the thieves back to Congress or anything.

  • Good Riddance

    A big news story today is the announcement by Patrick Kennedy, son of Ted Kennedy, that he will not seek reelection to Congress from Rhode Island. He claims his life has “taken a new direction”.  I cannot think of a finer example of the type of human garbage that inhabits the halls of Congress than Patrick Kennedy. Here is a guy that has been elected official since the age of 21 and in his own words has “never worked a fucking day in my life” (which was uttered after he said he didn’t need the Bush tax cuts).  Almost every year, there is some new scandal with Patrick involving drugs, women, DUIs (plural), and dealings with fugitive Democratic fundraisers. Patrick also like to manufacture controversy, most recently when he claimed that he was asked not to recieve communion  by the archbishop of Rhode Island due to his support of abortion, but failed to mention that the archbishop made this request two years before Patrick’s public announcement.  Its no secret that daddy Teddy covered for little Patrick  and was able to insure all his scandals were cleaned up nicely by the media and other Democrats in Congress. Patrick also played the  “I’m depressed and bi-polar” card multiple times and used his mental illness as an excuse for his outrageous behavior. Even though we all struggle with personal demons, someone who admits to having serious mental health issues should not be continually elected to Congress but I guess thats okay if you are a Kennedy.

    However, now that Teddy is no longer around to pull strings and with polls showing his support tanking in Rhode Island, Patrick has decided to call it quits after 16 years in Congress (yeah, thats right 16 years…). It is a testament to the power that the Kennedys possessed in the Northeast that this scumbag was able to win EIGHT elections. Not only that, he was considered a serious contender to replace RINO Senator Lincoln Chafee. His announcement also reveals another new reality about American politics. Without a Kennedy holding a powerful politicial office, it shows that the era of Kennedy influence in American politics has ended. And for that, I thank God. The Kennedy family is nothing but of bunch entitled, arrogant, and corrupt trust fund babies that think we owe them because they are related JFK, America’s most beautiful (and overrated) President. What has this family really done for America? The Peace Corps? The Special Olympics? [sarcasm] Oh wow, those things have really change the course of human events. [/sarcasm]

    Good riddance Patrick, I hope we never see you or anybody else from your family in a position of power ever again.

  • 2010 Senate predictions

    COB6 has been making Senate predictions since last month. now John Hawkins of Right Wing News weighs in with his GOP’s Top 10 Best Opportunities To Pick up Senate Seats in 2010.

    Here’s a sample;

    10) State: Washington
    2008 Presidential numbers: Obama 58% vs. McCain 41%
    Currently held by: Patty Murray
    Ranking: Likely Democrat Hold (90% chance of Dem hold) — unless…

    Analysis: Murray’s favorability ratings are right around 50%, but in a leftward leaning state with no blue chip candidate to go against her, Murray’s seat is probably safe. That is, safe unless Dino Rossi decides to run.

    According to a GOP polling firm, two-time Republican candidate for governor, Dino Rossi was beating Murray 45% to 43%. Could Rossi pull off a victory? Yes, he could. Will he run? That’s hard to say. However, if Rossi were to run, this race would turn from a likely Democrat hold to a toss-up.

  • More News On Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

    In my last post, I addressed some of the big issues concerning how the DoD would go about repealing DADT. According to an article from the AP, the DoD has apparently begun to address some of the same issues that I brought up in my previous post. I am happy to hear that the DoD is at least making the right noises in preparing for a potential lifting of DADT. Gates and Adm Mullen are also going to testify in front of the Senate Armed Service Committee on the issues facing the military in regards to DADT. I still believe (and so do most political commentators including the author of the AP article I link to) that there will not be any changes to DADT this year. The focus is obviously on the economy and the 2010 election and I realistically don’t see the Democrats in Congress or the President making repealing DADT a centerpiece of their 2010 agenda.

    My personal feelings on DADT are a bit conflicted and my mind is not completely made up on the issue. I do not believe that homosexuals should be allowed to serve in combat arms units or on submarines. I don’t believe this because I buy into a stereotype of gay men/women as “weak” or “girlie”. The living conditions in these units  do not allow for the ability to segregate gay and straight soldiers/sailors/Marines and adding sexual tension (and I don’t care what anybody says that tension will exist no matter how many people say otherwise) to an already stressful environment that exists in these combat units is a dangerous mix. These are some of the same reasons why we do not allow women to serve in combat arms units. On the issue of gays serving in other MOSes, I am not sure that this would effect the capability of some of these units. Again, I spent my four years in security force and infantry units, so my experience with non-combat arms MOSes is limited, but nobody can argue that they operate differently. I certainly don’t believe that there should be quotas for gay enlisted and officer promotions to insure that there isn’t discrimination against them. There is so many things wrong with that I don’t even know where to start with that one. The military is meritocracy (thats why many on the left dislike it) and promotions should be based on ability not on race, sexual orientation, or anything else. I also don’t believe that men and women who were discharged under DADT should be allowed to reenlist/recommission. Right or wrong, they violated a stated DoD policy by revealing their sexual orientation. The only exception I would make is the ones who were maybe involuntarily outed.  If the United States were to legalize pot, should we let everybody who was kicked out because of drug pop on a piss test? Absolutely not.

    Again, the overall point I want to make on DADT is that is far from a simple issue that can just be changed overnight. There are serious implication for our military, which is currently engaged in active combat operations all over the world.

  • Larger payraise for troops?

    The other day I wrote about the Obama Administration requesting a smaller pay raise for the troops. TSO said it was ploy so Democrats in Congress could pretend to be outraged and demand more for the troops than voters in those troubled districts would reward the “outraged” members of Congress with another two years in office.

    Well right on schedule comes Democrat Glen Nye;

    Amid reports that the Administration will only request a military pay raise of 1.4% this year – the lowest since the return of the all-volunteer military in 1973 – Nye sent a firm letter to House leaders, stating that military personnel should get a pay increase “worthy of their service and sacrifice.”

    “We must not balance the budget on the backs of our military personnel. There are many areas where we need to cut federal spending, and I applaud efforts to do so, but the compensation paid to our troops is not one of them,” wrote Nye, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

    Congressman Glenn Nye already has a winning track record when it comes to fighting to protect military personnel and veterans.

    Well, however it happens, I’m glad the troops are getting what they need.
