  • Memorial Day Weekend at Walter Reed

    I started my Memorial Day Weekend at my favorite place with my favorite people – the weekly Friday FReep at Walter Reed to welcome the wounded soldiers back from the war. The last time I was there was back on their 3rd Anniversary in March.

    The FReepers and Protest Warriors still own all four corners at front gate where the troops arrive since Concrete Bob discovered the Code Pink crowd lost their permit.

    The Code Pink contingent has been forced to hold their protests about 100 yards from the gate, in the middle of the block;

    At least their flags are right-side up for a change.

    The usual more signs than moonbats dilemma;

    A good friend to this blog from the very beginning – Tom the Redhunter just back from Israel;

    I’m always surprised at the amount of support these guys get in the heart of Northwest DC – not a bastion of Conservatism but, apparently filled with Americans. Here’s a video so you can see what it feels like;

    [youtube TCWUOsgin4w nolink]

    I love the girl in the video – she’s always so full of energy. While I was filming the corner, a pedestrian stopped and told her how he missed her on Friday nights when she’s not there. She told me that some troops returning from Iraq had mentioned to her that they recognized her from the video I shot in March and put on YouTube and Google.

    A few soldiers who work at Walter Reed stopped by and thanked the FReepers for being out there. Just as I walked up, one of the FReepers was autographing a sign for the father of a wounded soldier who had driven down to see his son from Illinois. He was so grateful for the support in front of the hospital, he asked for an autograph and a sign.

    It only takes a few stories like that to keep those folks coming back – every week.

    Stay tuned here this weekend as I plan to cover a lot of the Memorial Day events in the Nation’s Capitol.

  • Code Pink heckles McCain

    John McCain dealt deadly blows to Barak Obama’s insinuation that Iran is no threat like Soviet Union was today at the National Restaurant Association convention according to the WSJ’s Washington Wire;

    McCain’s harsh words today stemmed from Obama’s defense of his foreign policy on Saturday.

    Of his plans to meet with foreign leaders, Obama said, “That’s what Kennedy did with Khrushchev. That’s what Reagan did with Gorbachev. That’s what Nixon did with Mao.” Campaigning in Oregon, Obama added: “I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union.”

    “Such a statement betrays the depth of Sen. Obama’s inexperience and reckless judgment,” McCain said on Monday. “Those are very serious deficiencies for an American president to possess.”

    McCain said that while Iran isn’t a superpower and doesn’t have the military of the former Soviet Union, it remains a grave threat in part because Ahmadinejad’s anti-Israel comments.

    Then as he began his prepared remarks, three old hags began their childish antics;

    …three women in pink aprons stood up to protest the Iraq war. One woman climbed on her chair and waved a maroon banner while singing a song about McCain and President Bush to the tune of “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad.” The crowd, gathered for a convention of the National Restaurant Association, booed the women as they were escorted out of the ballroom.

    I don’t see the Code Pink hags protesting Barak Obama or Hillary Clinton for their admissions that they’ll remain in Iraq for a period of time. Maybe it’s because Code Pink are just the SWAT team of the DNC.

  • Mothers’ Day Peace-nik (now with IVAW)

    I went to the Code Pink Mothers’ Day protest in front of the White House two years ago and they were able to scrape together a few hundred people;

    They even had giant puppets;

    But those heady days of yore are gone. Today, they couldn’t even get in front of the White House. The closest they could get was about twelve blocks away up Connecticut Avenue at DuPont Circle. On their website, they called it a Mother’s Day “Peace-nik” and they urged people to bring their children for fun and games. I expected a hundred or so, but, by my count they were a little over thirty;

    They had activities for the children, but not too many children showed up, so why waste all of that face paint stuff, huh?

    No media was there, it must’ve been tough for them. They couldn’t get the giant puppets, so they brought tall people instead;

    It was a little hard to tell who intentionally dressed like a clown and who didn’t;

    Nothing is sadder than a bunch of old hippies trying to recapture their respective youth by acting like they’re…well, hippies;

    [youtube x8OhqQeapnQ nolink]

    But since it was the only show in town the big guns were there;

    They started begging as soon as they got there. Apparently they thought the thirty or so people there were flush with cash.

    [youtube mB9J0bJk59c nolink]

    Geoff Millard (the guy who’s going to testify to Congress that our troops are all racist) from IVAW was there with his mother;

    He pleaded with the Code Pink to attend their testimony in Congress next Thursday and pack the room to keep out people that might disrupt the hearings. Like this I suppose;

    condi-hands.jpg

    He went on to say that Congress should hear about Iraq from soldiers on the ground, not just from “Generals and pundits”. Well, then I suppose he supports Veterans For Freedom because they tried to talk to Congressmen, and I doubt they got to talk to too many of the members of the Progressive Caucus. I also wonder what soldiers who haven’t been in Iraq in the last two to five years can tell the Progressive Caucus about what has happened there in the last year or so. So what Millard meant was that Congress should hear from the drama queens and sociopaths of the IVAW who haven’t been able to find their collective ass with both hands in the last year or so.

    [youtube Er9cCqGX2Xc nolink]

    Then it was time to leave. I thought they’d march on the White House but they went in the opposite direction. So I just filmed them leaving;

    [youtube 7_vBHYNNUh0 nolink]

    [youtube rdNcElPKbos nolink]

    The anti-war movement is coming undone. They’re unable to announce their events in a timely manner anymore without being countered. Their members are losing interest and their antics turn off more people than they can attract. They claim to have the support of the American people, but the reality is that they don’t. In a city with more than 30,000 college students, they couldn’t get any of them out for their lame showing. This “peace-nik” was nothing more than pan handling – and they were probably out numbered by the regular panhandlers in DuPont Circle today.

  • Code Pink (rhymes with witches)

    codepinkxannewitch.JPG

    Our favorite commies to hate have been at it again out in Berkeley, CA. Now that Medea Benjamin has come back from Syria, they’ve shifted into high gear. This time they’re casting spells on the marines recruiting there. Melanie Morgan has links and pictures here and here. And of course, my favorite photo blogger, Zombie, was there, too, and points us to a Fox news broadcast;

    [youtube tzTsC82qrDM nolink]

    I know they’re pretty hot about Mothers’ Day, so if you catch them loose in your town, snap some pictures and I’ll put them up here.

  • Code Pink sponsors “weekly reality tour”

    Knowing Mothers’ Day is around the corner, I went looking for the usual suspects to start acting up and found the most amazing and wonderful page on the Code Pink website. It seems they’re sponsoring “reality tours” of DC this summer. Now, if anyone is unqualified to give a tour of anything resembling reality, it’d be Code Pink.

    But that won’t stop them from having lessons in “Yoga for Activists” or delightful “Pancakes and Peace” breakfast (you’ll be able to decorate your pancakes with your favorite ChimpyBushMcHitler slogan). Who can resist the siren’s temptation of “Songfest – learn all our songs and how to create your own”? Wednesday morning is time for “Mindful Muffins – peace with every bite”.

    Can’t wait for this summer to start your weekly reality tour? Well, stop by the Code Pink store and get your official Code Pink Activist package which includes;

    – classic “CODEPINK Women for Peace” woman tee in your choice of black, pink, or fuchsia

    – sheer fuchsia scarf, handmade by a women’s collective in Pakistan

    – Women Say NO to War DVD, includes 2 documentaries, Mother’s Day & Iraqi Women Speak Out

    – collection of CODEPINK buttons & bumper stickers

    Medea Benjamin is in Syria this week meeting with Iraqi refugees and bringing them the power of Pink;

    medea_amman.jpg

    So I guess they’ve got nothing planned for Sunday. if anyone hears of anything, please let me know. They’re a little reticent about putting stuff on the net these days.

  • What’s good for the Goose…(Updated)

    Zombie, in the new blog Zomblog has photos of Code Pink getting a taste of their own medicine. Apparently, Marine Corps veterans are protesting outside the Code Pink recruiting center in Albany, CA.

    img_2345.JPG

    Poifect.

    Update: While we’re in a mood for protests, Skye at Midnight Blue and Flopping Aces has pictures of yesterday’s Chester County, PA rally and a video that takes some shots at the Left and their “projection”.

  • DC Moonbat Convergence

    Another day, another protest. Today is ANSWER’s “Day of Action”. Since the Iraq War started five years ago today, all of the organizations that have sprung up to cash in on the war decided to have an eight-ring circus in downtown Washington DC, because as one IVAW member told me, the war is about money – apparently for the moonbats, too. My coverage was abruptly ended when I was ID’d as “one of those Milblog guys at Winter Soldier”, so excuse me for not getting all I should have.

    I was there bright and early for the festivities. It must’ve been a little too early because the Code Pink gals were looking especially raggedy;

    They even had their own marching band;

    Complete with mascot;

    Everyone headed out to their respective “actions” and I went looking for the recruiting station, where I figured the action was going to take place. But the Freepers beat me to it;

    [youtube 6ge2psjY6Ao nolink]

    The recruiters felt safe enough with moonbats roaming around to come outside for air – thanks to the Freepers and a few ladies from the Second Amedment Sisters who were in town for the Supreme Court doin’s yesterday.

    A large police contingent stationed at the recruiting office was helpful, too. This particular officer told us his son is in Iraq with the Air Force.

    This kind fellow brought coffee to the Freepers;

    Up the street from the recruiting station was the American Petroleum Institute – since the war is about money and oil, it was a good target for the Greens to block people from going to their jobs;

    And the most energy efficient way to get your bicycle into the city is to bring it in a U-Haul pickup;

    I went several blocks away to the IRS – where apparently they hand out cash for fueling the war machine while starving children. On my way there, I passed a group of guys wearing media passes, ten steps behind them, moving her tiny legs as fast as she could was Code Pink’s head troll Medea Benjamin – I just thought that was funny.

    I got to the IRS just in time to see 20 or so people getting packed up for the hoosegow;

    [youtube z4eIGtaofx4 nolink]

    I went back to McPherson Square and was lucky enough to record some poor distraught veteran who had gone into Iraq five years ago today tell us about how he figured out that Bush had lied to him in the first three days and describe some atrocities that didn’t happen – but that we should “imagine” happened anyway.

    [youtube N57QMzmadQs nolink]

    You might notice that while I filming that video, the police roared out of the park behind the speakers – they were headed to the recruiting station, so I cut short the video and scurried over the station, but I missed the protest there. I did however get there in time to catch “Barbie” Benjamin riding in her toy bed;

    I noticed that it was nearly time for the “veterans” event to begin so I took off for the ten block walk to the National Archives. I passed by the White House and notice that there was no “action” there;

    I got to the National Archives just in time to catch the drama queens of the IVAW, Veterans for Peace and their mish-mash bands of friends and enablers. Notice how they show their love for this country.

    [youtube OliV6mF7nrE nolink]

    And right upfront is every Leftist’s heart throb, Adam Kokesh – so you just know someone’s going to get arrested. I also noticed that the IVAW fellas have stopped wearing military uniforms and they’ve opted for the black sweatshirts these days.

    So they arrived at the National Archives and charged up the steps with their upside-down flags;

    [youtube k4cQhbk62Z0 nolink]

    And explained to the crowd why they fly the flag upside down (I can’t understand a word of it – so good luck)

    [youtube ovA51wNAmWU nolink]

    George Bush, Dick Cheney and Condoleeza Rice showed up;

    And so did the DC cops to cart off Kokesh and his merry band of trespassers on Federal property;

    They read some long speeches about the typical blather “Blood for Oil”, “War for Exxon”, etc…. I lost interest waiting for the police to cart them off.

    The chivalrous side of me was my downfall though. One of the IVAW guys (I don’t know which one – one of the little loud mouths) started yelling at the female security guard because she wouldn’t let him go up the steps and I told him to calm down that she was just doing her job. Then he yelled out “I know you! You were at Winter Soldier – one of those milbloggers”.

    As the crowd pressed in on me, I beat a hasty retreat – but another one of the IVAW guys started following me up the street calling me names – he had a buddy with a video camera to get it all on film in the event I knocked the little halfpint out. But they got nothing – except I left the event just as the DC cops arrived to arrest Kokesh, so I didn’t get pictures of that little theater.

    Most of the protesters were the same demographic as attendees at Winter Soldier – old hippies reliving their hey-day.

    Thus Spake Ortner, my battle buddy at WSII, has pictures at The Sniper as well as some hillarious commentary.

    While you’re in the mood to look at Moonbats, zip over to the Left Coast at Zombie and see if you can spot the spelling error on Cindy Sheehan’s sign.

    The Freepers wanted me to remind you all that March 29th is the third anniversary of their Freep at Walter Reed every Friday night and if you’re in town – make it.

    UPDATE: The Washington Post (that neocon rag) estimates protest numbers at a thousand – tops. The Washington Times concurs. I’d thought it was a little more, but we can use their number.

  • Protest some more, Code Pink

    Despite Code Pink’s best efforts to hinder recruiters, all of the services’ recruiters are reporting that they’ve met or exceeded recruiting goals for February, according to Some Soldier’s Mom.

    Yeah, well, I’d rather go somewhere and get shot at than wake up to this every morning, too.

    medea-benjamin-code-pink-protest.jpg

    code_pink_1.jpg

    Or read garbage like this in my local newspaper (h/t Little Green Footballs);

    Many who oppose the Bush regime wars also say they “support the troops.” Let me say it straight out—I do not support the troops and neither should you. It is objectively impossible to support the troops of the imperialist military forces of the U.S. and at the same time oppose the wars in which they fight.

    The United States has over 700 military bases or sites located in over 130 foreign countries. The hundreds of thousands of troops stationed in these countries are not there to preserve or foster freedom and democracy as the Bush regime would like to claim, but to maintain U.S. imperialist domination of the world.

    What self-respecting American wouldn’t enlist to offset the garbage that passes for American Political Thought these days?
