  • Rich Davis; American Sheepdog

    My buddy, Skye from Midnight Blue sent this video along and asked me to post it. Like I’d turn down Skye for any request. But it’s about Rich Davis, whom I met briefly when I went to West Chester last month – only breifly because Rich was on the move from the time we got there until we left. But, here’s Skye’s video about Mr. Davis;

     It turns out that this is Skye’s entry for the GOP Convention video contest. She says she might find out tomorrow if she’s been selected for the competition. Stay tuned here for news on how you can help her get a free trip to the convention.

  • My inaugaral post

    Now, I know the jeopardy of having my first post just oozing with estrogen, but the man that wore that crazy blue shirt up to West Chester can’t possibly hit me for this one, and the only other likely culprit is LT Nixon, and I heard he’s spending all his free time trolling the upper midwest for men.

    So anyway, hello this ain’t hell minions! I’m your not-particularly humble correspondant TSO who has been waiting in vain for 4 days to find something blog worthy. And I think I found it.

    Meet 12 year old Minnesotan E’leese Madgett Manrique.

    eleese

    In her words:

    I am going to ride from town to town raising money. We will create a place where any soldier in need of a place to heal can go for free.The Ranch will not be fancy, in fact it will be humble. Just like the men and women that serve their country. Here in Minnesota we have a very good life. People in Minnesota have a long tradition of service and volunteering. Neighbor helping neighbor. The Ranch will be a number of cabins surrounding a lodge and dining room. Soldiers can spend the day lounging around. Taking a walk, going for a swim, or taking a horse out for a ride. Do ranch chores or relax, read a book, or have a good conversation, be our guest. For those who do so much for others, we thank you.

    She’s getting support from Minnesotan politicians like Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, and Governor (and dare I hope, VP candidate) Tim Pawlenty. Either way, the story is humbling. Some people *cough* IVAW *cough* Codestink *cough* talk about helping the vets, and others just get on their horse and get it done. Not that I would suggest that any groups are less mature than a 12 year old girl of course. *cough* liar *cough*

    Anyway, here is a long article about it, and if you are significantly less manly that I am, bring some kleenex. Thankfully, I am the paragon of manliness, and never succomb to such petty things as feelings.

    And, thus spake Ortner.

    (And like nearly all TSO posts to follow, this one initially replete with spelling and grammar errors.)

  • Zombie in Berkeley

    img_3684.JPG

    The blogger who influenced me to focus my own blog on the countless protests here in DC, Zombie, has a great photo essay on this weekend’s events in Berkeley against the Marine Recruiting station there. Complete with video;

    [youtube 3j5TstKikD0 nolink]

    Code Pink was classy enough to disrupt a eulogy a Gold Star Mom was giving for her son. World Can’t Wait showed their class by throwing Nazi salutes and booing the National Anthem. More pics at PC Free Zone, Melanie Morgan and a coupla AARs at Eagles Up.

    Zombie actually sent me an email a few weeks ago complimenting our work here, but I could never reach the quality of Zombie – they have much loonier moonbats in Berkeley.

    There’s supposed to be a protest this weekend in Lafayette Park and TSO and I were talking about going. If nothing else, there’s several bars in the area where we can cleanse our memories.

  • Change the IVAW can believe in

    logobama-1.jpg

    TSO has gotten the IVAW pissed at him again, so I figured I’d take some of the heat off him for a while. I figured out how when I visited my buddy, Jacob, at Views of a Veteran so you get the Jesse MacBeth/IVAW/Obama logo.
    TSO and I will be planning our next move over lunch at Stan’s again.

    UPDATED: Marooned in Marin recounts the story and the personal history of some other phony soldier clowns who spit on the graves of soldiers. They’d better stick to those who can’t defend themselves.

    UPDATED Again: I knew that I knew this Crooks clown. I’ll leave the link up to Marooned in Marin, but I urge you not to go to the video…not because it’s nasty, but because this guy is a publicity hound. He rants and raves about the troops and how we should “forsake” them and cut their pay.

    But the truth is this; Crooks was a slick-sleeve private for about three weeks back before the war began and he was booted for inability to adjust to military life – he probably didn’t get to wear all of the socks they issued him before he got thrown out. Ever since he was cashiered, he’s had a personal vendetta against everyone who was ever in the military.

    When GI Jane and I were on another forum, he’d pop up occasionally with his latest bit of theater. Jane used to dig up his crap from cached websites where he’d alternately supported the troops and then bashed them.
    I see Cao has more information on one of his more recent antics – pretending he’d been murdered by some sort of extremists who thought that killing him was worth a couple years in the slammer.

    The guy’s just a delusional moron who thrives on internet traffic to his idiot rants. Don’t give him the satisfaction.

  • Targeting Right Blogs

    A few weeks ago, on Sunday, June 1st, I started getting hits to this blog from Larry Johnson’s No Quarter – maybe ten hits in an hour which is real weird for a Sunday in June. I tracked them back to this page about the infamous Michelle Obama “Whitey” tape. At first I didn’t think anything of it, but the hits kept coming and I couldn’t find the link here on that page. It’s actually a blogger trick to get folks to pay attention to your posts, so I kind of brushed it off. But then I started seeing other bloggers picking up on it – kind of skeptically, though. Nearly everyone questioned the veracity of the story – me, I never heard of this Johnson guy before. But I did know he had a really bad haircut.

    Anyway, I mentioned the links in a comment by zero ponsdorf and COB6 immediately perceived  it as some sort of dirty trick. At Ace of Spades, I made the comment that I had the feeling that the Right blogs were getting set up, and someone asked me how we could get set up when no one writing much about it. On it’s face, that’s a reasonable question. No one was writing much about – except to make fun of Larry’s hair (someone called him Flo-Bee Johnson…hilarious).

    Then on Tuesday, June 3rd, Bob Beckel came out and on Fox News and perpetuated the rumor that something was coming out soon.

    Than this last Saturday, I read in the New York Times that “the final straw for Mr. Obama, his aides said, was the story circulating on conservative blogs that a video existed showing Mrs. Obama making a racially tinged speech at their former church, Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.”  Huh? What conservative blogs were those? The only place I saw it was on Larry Johnson’s blog.

    Well, this morning, I checkout Little Green Footballs to see what those guys on the Left Coast talked about while I was sleeping and I find this.

    UPDATE at 6/15/08 5:37:50 pm:

    My jaw has just dropped.

    Beckel had the nerve to blame the “whitey tape” smear on right wing bloggers. Wow. A new apex of hypocrisy has now been achieved.

    UPDATE at 6/15/08 5:42:17 pm:

    Beckel actually claimed that he tried to debunk the rumor. Here’s the video clip, courtesy of Hot Air. Sleazy, sleazy, sleazy.

    Yeah, you need to go to LGF and see both clips – And of course, we’re a bunch of “crackers and rightwingers” according to Beckel. Even though he and Johnson were the only ones spreading this rumor, it’s our fault.

    And I just went over to Larry Johnson’s and find that he’s still trying to perpetuate the rumor that Obama isn’t an American citizen…something neither COB6 nor I questioned when the crap was flying around in the middle of last week.

    I defer to Baldilocks on questions of Obama’s citizenship and childhood. And my source for his political career are the infallible Chicagoan duo of Backyard Conservative and Marathon Pundit.

    But anyway, we, the blogs on the Right, did nothing, yet apparently we’re to blame for lefty clintonista Flo-Bee Johnson spreading the rumor of the “Whitey” video.

    From James Taranto’s “Best of the Web” Friday, there’s a link to an Obama ’08 page called “Fight the Smears” which lists four rumors about Obama that are “lies” and they provide documentation. It’s not real important stuff – it includes the Whitey tape, the rumor of which,  the Obama campaign claims, was started by Rush Limbaugh. Yuh, huh.

    Actually, the Fight the Smears page isn’t new – it’s been on the campaign website for more than a month and it was directed at the Hillary campaign, but now it includes Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity as it’s targets.

    So the message is “Don’t believe the blogs and radio folks on the Right and here’s why…” Nice try.

  • Flag Day in bitter West Chester, PA

    My buddy Skye from the blogs Midnight Blue and Flopping Aces has been pestering me to come up to West Chester, Pennsylvania to cover her pet project, the Victory Group that counters the Chester County Peace Vigil, so I finally relented (I hate driving back into DC after the peace and tranquility of Real America) and I wasn’t disappointed. I’m sure most of you remember that Skye was the blogger attacked by a member of the “Peace” vigil last month, but that hasn’t stopped her from being there every Saturday.

    So when Thus Spake Ortner and I met up there, we estimated there were probably 200 bitter, patriotic Pennsylvanians clinging to their flag, their guns and their faith facing about forty enlightened beings ready to surrender their safety and well-being for the sake of world peace. Guess which group is which of these two pictures;

    All of the old hippies were out with their tired bumpersticker politics;

    It’s no surprise that the peace movement in West Chester would hijack the image of West Chester’s favorite son, Smedley Butler, and quote from his writings in a socialist magazine;

    And more timely slogans;

    Of course, you can’t put a whole Supreme Court decision on a sign or in few enough words that a Leftist could pay attention all the way through – it’s just easier to call the whole thing illegal.

    Apparently the pro-Victory side are uberpatriots;

    I wonder to what lie she’s referring. Maybe the lie that the Left is patriotic and supports the troops. What the Tibetan flag had to do our Flag Day, I’ll never know.

    But luckily there was a bunch of people on the spot to raise my spirits again;

    Did I mention they had bagpipes?

    I think TSO almost wet himself.

    After the good guys sang the Star-Spangled Banner and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the hippies figured their job was done and streamed off down the street pathetically chanting “Out of Iraq Now” in those weak little voices they have. In the meantime, we were treated to good food and beer at the Knights of Columbus Lodge up the street. There was speechifying, prayers and more bagpipes. And more Skye;

    I had a great time – usually I have to wait to see good Americans when they come to DC…but this time venturing out into the hinterlands paid off for me – I felt privileged to be surrounded by such dedicated and proud hardworking Americans.

    I threw together this video of parts of the event, so across America you can get the sense of how the bitter folks of West Chester, PA stand up to the malignant “peace” movement;

    [youtube OYi16QtMNHE nolink]

    I hope everyone understands that when I say “bitter”, I kid.

    And just so you know, when I got back to DC, I was stuck 6 miles from home in an hour-long traffic jam. Yay!

    UPDATE: TSO remembers the event a bit differently than I remember.

    Skye’s report is at Flopping Aces and Midnight Blue. From her group shot, I found TSO and me – well, the top of our heads, anyway. My head is the one that’s not reflecting sunlight.

  • Chanan Suarez-Diaz meets TSO

    My drinkin’ buddy, Thus Spake Ortner takes on yet another IVAW fable-ist at The Sniper. A sample;

    We relieved the Second Battalion, Fourth Marines, and they wanted us to do the same death mission that one of its squads–which is eight Marines, plus a Navy corpsman, for a total of nine–did.

    The squad was completely wiped out. They got ambushed in a bad part of Ramadi, and all of them were killed–their bodies were stripped and left on the street. They wanted us to do the same thing–to go on the same route, but have backup at some distance. They wanted us to draw the fire, call in the backup and then wipe them out.

    Death Mission? There are several things to this story that are interesting/inaccurate. First off, the so-called “Death Mission” happened on April 6, 2004, over 6 months before Diaz’s unit even arrived in country. So it wasn’t like they were sending him the next day. When a unit is said to “Land on Omaha Beach”, it would make a big difference if they did so on June 6, or November 6.

    Speaking of IVAW, TSO also sent me this video last week promising to write about it (and he never did – but it’s good for entertainment value). It should have been entitled The Army of Duh;

    For those of you who don’t know, Robin of Chickenhawk Express (my alter ego according to the IVAW) is back blogging more regularly.

    Concretebob wants you to contact your Congressman to get him/her to sponsor a bill to protect recruiters.
