  • Maddow blames “right wing” for Peters

    Rachel Maddow, whose show on MSNBC is viewed by fewer people than live in my house, took the time the other day to blame LTC Ralph Peters’s stupid rant on Fox News on Sunday over imprisoned Bowe Berdahl’s video on the entire right. IAVA’s Paul Reickhoff is interviewed and, to his credit, doesn’t engage in the partisan hackery of Maddow;

    Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

    Maddow takes the time to quote Michelle Malkin and disparages her for describing Peter’s rant as “tough words” – somehow that’s evidence of a broader conspiracy against our troops. Actually, I think Ms. Malkin was showing uncharacteristic restraint.

    I wonder where Maddow was when the famous left-wing blogger Markos Moulitsas Zuniga commented on American contractors who were killed in Iraq aqnd their bodies hung from a bridge with his famous “F*** ’em“.

    In fact, some of us saw evidence of Maddow having an effect on the nutroots yesterday when a Left wing blogger accused the milblogs of supporting Peters’ statement. The truth is that the milblogs have been mostly silent on it, there is no support for Peters among the milblogs or even the Right blogs.

    Maddow, true to her character, makes a mountain out of a mole hill. The left would be wise to do their research before they go off half-cocked.

  • On Bowe Bergdahl

    Some of you may have been waiting for me to write something more about PFC Bowe Bergdahl, the captured soldier who appears to be held by the Taliban. I’ve got some opinions, but I’d rather hold off until he gets recovered. In the meantime some folks who are much better informed than I are writing some brilliant stuff at their own places.

    First you should read Greyhawk at Mudville Gazette. And someone who seems to know more than he’s telling us is Bouhammer. He also has the complete 28-minute video.

    Speaking of videos, this one of LTC Ralph Peters on Fox News was absolutely uncalled for. Peters may know something the rest of us don’t know, but he should just shut up until Bergdahl is back in our custody;

    But I understand why he calls Bergdahl a liar – I’d say stupid shit if I was talking to Julie Banderas, too.

    Added: Jimbo says it’s time for the media to have a nice hot, steamy cup of STFU.

    Michelle Malkin has updates to her post that make references to a note and desertion.

  • VV’s Friedman on smoking

    Brandon “Beaker” Friedman of Vote Vets is unhappy that soldiers will retain their choice whether to use tobacco or not after the Department of Defense rejected recommendations to curtail tobacco use in the military. Somehow he blames some nebulous “pro-tobacco opposition”;

    Even though no one suggested the government’s Morale Suppression Squad would immediately deploy agents to the front lines to confiscate Joe’s smokes, that’s exactly how the pro-tobacco opposition framed it. And you guys were successful. So well played, my tobacco-loving friends, well played.

    I don’t remember anyone except real soldiers who like to dip tobacco to fend off stress and fire up a stogy to celebrate when it’s over expressing their opinions. Somehow we did irreparable damage to future soldiers. But see, that’s not the end. How can anyone write a post at Vote Vets without pulling statistics out of their ass? Well they can’t. In defense of his post, Beaker wrote this;

    beaker-on-smoking

    Notice the first line; Military service is not more dangerous than smoking and drinking. I don’t have the data, but I guarantee you more veterans died of smoking- and drinking-related causes last year than died in combat. In fact, that’s a statistic I’d love to get my hands on.

    He had to say “veterans” because no one on active duty dies of tobacco use – it takes decades of use to die from tobacco usage. No one dies when they’re 19 from a year of a pinch between teeth and gums. But ya know, when you say “veterans” that means people who don’t go to combat – because they’re not in the military. They’re veterans. And they get to choose whether they use tobacco or not – irrespective of military policy.

    So, and I’m just guessin’ here, I think that 100% more veterans die of tobacco use than die in combat.

    Below the jump, Freidman sings “Ode to Joy” to repent for his anally-retrieved statistics;

  • TAH haunts Kokesh in Las Vegas

    The other day I got an email from Chris Hill of Gathering of Eagles;

    Jonn,

    Adam Kokesh, as part of his campaign is at Freedom Fest out in Vegas and is one of the speakers. By chance Captain Larry Bailey happens to be there too. Kokesh’s bio has all sorts of false or embellished claims, most noticeably that he received an honorable discharge. We’re putting together a flier to distribute there countering his claims. Do you have any of the reports about the weapon Kokesh brought back from Iraq, it’s theft from his vehicle, a copy of his DD-214, or any of the statements he made about the officers which resulted in the general discharge. The event runs for a few more days, but I’d like to get this flier put together today with a banner something like WHO IS ADAM KOKESH REALLY? Thanks for any help you can provide bro. Manchu.

    Chris Hill

    So I sent him a bunch of links to posts that we’d written over the past few years and apparentlythey printed the pages out and made a handout of them. A few days later, Chris emailed back;

    John,

    Captain Bailey used the material you provided on Kokesh to rattle him completely this morning at Freedom Fest in Las Vegas. It was being videotaped, but we are unsure by whom. The Fest only lists audio tapes. We’ll be looking. Thanks bro. Mission Accomplished. Manchu

  • MoveOn and Acorn Meet Patriots

    goevsmoveon

    Our buddy, DanNY, went and counter-protested a MoveOn/ACORN rally at Lil Chuckie Schumer’s office with a number of his friends out on Long Island today. Apparently, they outnumbered the Soros minions by a 10:1 ratio. Click on over and give them some love in the comments (make TSO jealous).

  • Tankerbabe and other news

    Tankerbabe has a real cool story to tell you about a guitar. You need to read it. She emailed the story around a few weeks ago, but it hasn’t lost it’s luster when I read it again this morning.

    Something going around and showing up in my inbox is a story about Joe Biden’s speech to 200 new citizens who also happened to be military members and assigned to units currently deployed to Iraq.

    “As corny as it sounds,” he told the troops, “Damn, I’m proud to be an American!”

    Knowledge Is Power has pretty good response from DougM. (Hat tip to Chuck)

    Iowa Republican Senator Charles Grassley tells a constituent that if they want good health care, they should work for the government…and eat cake, too, I suppose;

    I don’t know why anyone thinks government employees’ health care is so good, by the way. There are a bunch of plans and if you want to pay a lot, you can get a great plan – I’ve had better and cheaper plans from civilian employers. I get the impression that everyone thinks government employees get free health care or something.

    Stars and Stripes reports that tourism is “booming” in Iraq. S&S also does a story about the 3rd Infantry Division “wargaming” the withdrawal from Iraq.

    Michelle Malkin started the story about fallen soldier Aaron Masters, Twitter spread it, and now Fox News writes about him.

    This isn’t news, but the price of oil fell again – just like it falls every year after the 4th of July – and every year, for some reason, it’s news.

    And this is just funny from Genghis at Ace of Spades.

    I’m actually working on something that’s pretty complicated and it won’t be up for awhile yet, so I threw these links together so everyone didn’t think I was in the stupid hospital again.

  • Where in the world….

    Y’all probably know that TSO is off this weekend and hanging out with the USO Girls and Uncle Jimbo at Dallas/Fort Worth airport.

    Jimbo says they’re fund raising for Warrior Legacy Foundation, but I don’t know how – apparently they can’t even give candy away to troops in the airport.

    I dunno – judge for yourselves at Blackfive.

  • Tuesday night links

    Actually, the whole reason I’m doing links tonight is because Army of Dude has an excellent review of a sorry-assed review of “The Hurt Locker” and I wanted y’all to see why we’re OK with Alex beating us at the best military blog thing in the Weblog Awards this year. He doesn’t write as much as we write, but when he does, it’s infantry poetry.

    Tankerbabe welcomes home the last of 6/4 Cav to Fort Hood from Afghanistan.

    Knee Deep In The Hooah has the best video of God Bless America ever made. Take hankies.

    The American Power Blog asks “Are you Franken serious?

    Gateway Pundit says “We’re all Marxists now”.

    TSO sent me this goofy shit this morning – I thought it was one of those ads that get in your way when you’re trying to get to a news story. But it’s just silly-assed Geezers For Sitting On Our Hands still beating the Bush Impeachment dead horse.

    Are you wondering what “out of the cities in Iraq” means, ask Grim at Blackfive who still has Iraq sand in the crack of his ass. Greyhawk corrects the headlines.

    While you’re at Blackfive, take advantage of the 20% discount from Ranger Up.

    Need some Sarah Palin? Don Surber and Ace of Spades has links and photos to the Runners’ World article.

    I like eddiebear, and if you don’t mind the language, you should read as he rips up Mark Tapscott into tiny little profane pieces at doubleplusundead. VanHelsing at Moonbattery takes on Henry Waxman.

    JammieWearingFool tells about another whistleblower in the Obama Administration who spoke truth to power and got shat upon. Ms. Malkin has the video of Mr. Alan Carlin on Fox.

    Subway used to make good sandwiches 30 years ago, but now all they sell are lettuce sandwiches. If that’s not enough to keep you from going in there, The Sniper has another reason.

    Speaking of abusing the troops, Weasel Zippers has another story about the British troops being verbally abused by some people of undetermined nationality, but waving Palestinian flags.

    Everyone’s favorite video blogger, Skye at Midnight Blue, went to the opening ceremony for a homeless veteran shelter in Philly.

    Feel free to pimp your links in the comments or email them to me and I’ll add them in here.
