  • Vets4Obama

    Zero sent us an article from Reuters which warns that the Obama campaign has assembled about 700 veterans to spread the message that Obama is a strong and capable military leader. I guess that IAVA and VoteVets haven’t successfully shouldered their load;

    The Obama campaign has built a network of more than 700 supportive veterans to promote the president in key states such as Virginia and North Carolina, where 13 percent and 11 percent of residents are veterans, respectively.

    These states are among a dozen divided battleground states that could hold the keys to victory in the 2012 election.

    The move is a sign that the Obama campaign will aggressively tout the commander-in-chief’s record as a military leader while it tries to assure Americans that the president can lift the struggling U.S. economy.

    I suppose that it’s fairly easy to find a few hundred Kool Aid drinkers among millions of veterans. The military isn’t a monolithic bloc of voters and, of course, there will be a few who still support Obama and are willing to campaign for him, but I don’t think it will turn out well for them or for Obama. The problem is that you can’t convince someone of somthing when they’ve seen it with their own eyes.

    Yeah, you can tell the regular old nimrods that Obama is going to pay their rent and car payments and they’ll believe it. But you can’t tell the military that Obama is a strong and capable leader when they’ve been surrounded by strong and capable leaders for their whole adult lives and know what one really looks like.

    And they’d better prepare their bios…veterans are not going to be convinced by someone who spent twenty years managing the Fort Jackson NCO club. We want credentials.

  • Iran claims they’re almost done decoding their new drone

    I don’t think the iranians could decode the New York Times crossword puzzle, but they claim they’re almost done decoding the drone they found last week according to the Associated Press;

    Lawmaker Parviz Sorouri, who is on the parliament’s national security and foreign policy committee, said Monday the extracted information will be used to file a lawsuit against the United States for the “invasion” by the unmanned aircraft.

    Sorouri also claimed that Iran has the capability to reproduce the drone through reverse engineering, but he didn’t elaborate.

    Well, if we had a leader with gonads, he would just go ahead and bomb the shit out of whatever facility contains the drone at this point. I mean the world is already going to point their fingers at us for violating Iranian airspace with the drone, we might as well go ahead and really violate their airspace and keep them from duplicating the technology on top of the world’s condemnation, right? By blowing the drone (and the scientists) to shit we can at least mitigate the intelligence loss. And while we’re blowing shit up, we could make a side trip to their nuclear facilities and drop one down the chute there, too.

    It’s actually an opportunity of a lifetime.

  • Thank you, come again

    This is brilliant; the Obama Administration plans to install unmanned self-service kiosks along our southern border monitored by border agents hundreds of miles away from the crossing point according to an Associated Press link from Old Trooper;

    By the spring, kiosks could open up in Big Bend National Park allowing people from the tiny Mexican town of Boquillas del Carmen to scan their identity documents and talk to a customs officer in another location, at least 100 miles away.

    The crossing, which would be the nation’s first such port of entry with Mexico, has sparked opposition from some who see it as counterintuitive in these days of heightened border security. Supporters say the crossing would give the isolated Mexican town long-awaited access to U.S. commerce, improve conservation efforts and be an unlikely target for criminal operations.

    Damned right wing rethuglicans, can’t they see how intuitive this administration is? It’s not like there’s millions of Mexicans trying to get into this coutnry illegally or anything…so why shouldn’t we make it easier for them to come here and spend their millions in our country?

  • AZ Sheriffs call for Holder’s resignation

    Here’a news report about 10 Arizona sheriffs who called for Attorney General Eric Holder to step down for allowing the “Fast and Furious” operation to spin out of control. Yeah, Clarence Dupnik wasn’t there, but then neither was Joe Arpaio.

    It’s shameless that Holder won’t allow an investigation of the incident and its also just as shameful that he won’t admit any culpability for it. Of course, none of that makes up for the fact that thousands of weapons, bought with US taxpayer dollars, are in the hands of criminals and by Holder’s own admission will be used by those criminals for decades to come.

    Their own incompetence has already led to one regulation foisted on gun dealers in border towns and that’s probably only the beginning.

  • Why does Obama hate jobs?

    Obama wants a tax cut and the Republicans are willing to give him one…if he helps them give a green flag to the construction of an oil pipeline from Canada to Texas, the Keystone pipeline. Republicans say that the pipeline will provide jobs for at least 20,000 Americans across the country.

    The Obama Administration, however has threatened to veto any bi=partisan approval of the pipeline. In a link from Fox News, they quote the Democrats;

    “It’s a non-starter,” House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said.

    Her top deputy, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., urged Republicans to “reconsider” the Keystone language.

    White House Press Secretary Jay Carney warned Republicans not to include “extraneous attachments” in the bill.

    “Whatever happened to Republicans being for tax cuts?” Carney asked. “Is it because this one goes to 160 million Americans, middle-class working Americans, that they’re ambivalent or they’re willing to oppose it if they don’t get some political scalp? Is it because President Obama supports it, or Democrats support it?”

    In his 1979 “Malaise Speech” Jimmy Carter, when he announced the establishment of the Energy Department, promised;

    To make absolutely certain that nothing stands in the way of achieving these goals, I will urge Congress to create an energy mobilization board which, like the War Production Board in World War II, will have the responsibility and authority to cut through the redtape, the delays, and the endless roadblocks to completing key energy projects.

    We will protect our environment. But when this Nation critically needs a refinery or a pipeline, we will build it.

    The emphasis is mine. If they won’t bother to build this pipeline, like they haven’t built a single refinery since that speech, what will Democrats do to put Americans back to work and relieve our dependency on Middle East oil (another broken promise from Jimmy Carter in that speech). And what, exactly, is the purpose of the Energy Department if they just block energy production in this hemisphere?

    Yeah, th Obama Administration wants to make it sound like a tax cut issue, but obviously Republicans are committed to help Americans find work. So what does Obama have against increasing the ranks of the employed, and the tax money that the government would get as a result?

  • Unrepentant Holder

    Even though the top law enforcement officer in the country, Attorney General Holder admitted that under his leadership thousands of repeating, assault-style weapons were bought with tax payer dollars and transferred into the hands of the enemies of law-abiding Americans and that those weapons will “continue to show up at crime scenes in the U.S. and Mexico for years to come” – he still won’t admit that it was ultimately his responsibility. Fox News link;

    Holder, in testimony on Capitol Hill that comes as the congressional investigation into the program expands, decried the “gun-walking” tactic used in the operation as “inexcusable” and “wholly unacceptable.” But a day after an influential senator called for the resignation of one of Holder’s top deputies over the scandal, Holder denied department leaders played any role in the crafting of “Fast and Furious.”

    He continued to assert that top Justice officials were not told about the “inappropriate tactics” until they were made public.

    Thousands of thugs are running around with weapons purchased in the United States with our tax money and all he can muster is “inexcusable” and “wholly unacceptable”. Then they plotted to blame it on gun dealers and our gun laws to take away some of our rights.

    The anti=Bush crowd got bent out of shape when they found about the Bush Administration wiretapping terrorists calling the US, but they can’t get exercised about this plot to curtail American civil liberties?

    I expect Occupy DC will be marching on the DoJ any minute now to protest the crimes Holder and his crowd perpetrated on the American people.

    You can’t see it, but this is my bated-breath face,

  • Lieberman joins fight for domestic Purple Heart awards

    In the Stars & Stripes, Leo Shane reports that Joe Lieberman has joined with Senators from Texas and Arkansas to lobby the Defense Department to award to casualties of domestic terrorists in those States.

    At a hearing Wednesday, Lieberman said he will try to insert an amendment in the annual defense authorization bill (currently in conference committee) to award a posthumous Purple Heart to Army recruiter Pvt. William Long, who was killed in a brazen 2009 shooting by a radical Islamic adherent.

    I don’t see anything coming from this because this administration seems allergic to admitting that the war against terrorists has come home with the troops. Our first line of defense in this domestic war is the defense of the 2d Amendment which is contrary to this administration’s ideological leanings. We’ve seen how they’ll sacrifice the economy for their adherents in the environmental hostage business, the same goes for the gun issue.

  • DoD: The terrorist act at Fort Hood was “workplace violence”

    Old Trooper sends a link to a Fox News article which reports that wishy-washy Susan Collins finally found something that gets her knickers twisted, and in this case I have to agree;

    During a joint session of the Senate and House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, the Maine Republican referenced a letter from the Defense Department depicting the Fort Hood shootings as workplace violence. She criticized the Obama administration for failing to identify the threat as radical Islam.

    Talk about an understatement. I guess we could call the two wars we’ve been involved in over the last ten years as workplace violence, too.

    If Congress wants to do something about protecting soldiers, they should let those guys carry their weapons, their personal weapons, on base. As it stands now they can’t and that makes them a target between their homes and their work…a target that can’t fight back. They’ve just returned from an assignment during which they carried loaded weapons to protct themsleves and now that they’re home, they can’t defend themselves and their own families? Where’s the common sense in that?

    But that workplace violence call by the Obama Administration, is total horseshit, just so they don’t have to admit that there is indeed a terrorist threat in this country.
