  • Reality really does bite

    Obama tried to govern with campaign rhetoric. He spent the last few days taking his public plea to the people to pass his “stimulus” bill. Moments before the vote, he sent his Treasury Secretary out to calm the markets. The bill passed and the markets swooned;

    It took moments for the Financial Times to question whether the Obama presidency hasn’t already failed;

    Has Barack Obama’s presidency already failed? In normal times, this would be a ludicrous question. But these are not normal times. They are times of great danger. Today, the new US administration can disown responsibility for its inheritance; tomorrow, it will own it. Today, it can offer solutions; tomorrow it will have become the problem. Today, it is in control of events; tomorrow, events will take control of it. Doing too little is now far riskier than doing too much.

    A juvenile little putz in our own comment section cheered;

    Hooray for democracy!

    In your face assholes!! We won!!!

    Won what? A vote? Just because the president won a vote doesn’t mean he’s off the hook. The plan has to work and apparently the experts don’t think it will work. CBO warned last week that this plan would slow growth over the next ten years, and the campaign-like rhetoric was short on details that the experts need to plan the future of their companies. From the Wall Street Journal;

    Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner promised forceful action to get credit flowing again in the economy, but the lack of detail in his much-anticipated speech helped drive stocks down nearly 5%, the worst selloff since President Barack Obama assumed office.

    From the Washington Times;

    President Obama on Tuesday for the first time staked his fledgling presidency on pulling the country from its economic crisis, promising dispirited Floridians that his stimulus plan will produce tangible results such as jobs and tuition credits or he’ll be ousted from office in 2012.

    Mr. Obama — who earned a small victory when the Senate passed his $838 billion plan but then was hit with a big drop in the stock market — was on the campaign trail again, using a town-hall meeting and one of the best weapons in his arsenal: himself.

    He’ll always draw crowds of acolytes and ass-kissers, even Bill Clinton in his darkest days could do that – but now Obama has to produce, too.

    Even the Washington Post finally admitted their messiah wasn’t wearing any clothes;

    Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner vowed yesterday to bring the “full force” of the U.S. government to battle the financial crisis, assembling an unprecedented coalition of agencies and mustering federal resources on a scale rarely seen except at wartime. But the lack of detail in his plan dismayed lawmakers and investors, triggering a steep sell-off on Wall Street.

    The problem is; the average voter who responds to the pretty rhetoric of the campaign isn’t the same person trying to map out a future for their business or their investments. The reality is that Obama and his staff have always been sparse on details for the purpose of shagging along voters, as long as he said what they wanted to hear, they supported him. However, the rest of us work, live and plan for our futures in the real world where we need details – but as we saw with the stimulus bill, the more details we hear, the less likely we’re going to support Obama’s plans for our money.

    I mentioned a month ago that the campaign is over and it’s time for Obama & Co. to produce results. The president must not have heard me.

  • The party’s over

    That free-wheeling, good time spending you’ve been doing – yeah, that’s over. it’s time for the government to straighten out your life, you buncha incompetent morons;

    Mr. Obama pronounced “in fact, the party now is over” for free-spending Americans, defended his cataclysmic language on the health of the economy and said bipartisanship will have to take a back seat to getting an economic recovery spending bill completed.

    Thank God we’ve got the Obama, otherwise you boobs would have spent your own money for years on stuff you wanted for your own selfish reasons. And quit asking questions about how we’re spending your money.

    Michael Steele‘s response;

    The legislation moving its way through Congress bears little resemblance to what President Obama described at tonight’s press conference. The spending bill written by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid is filled with unnecessary and wasteful programs that will saddle future generations with massive debt. With so many Americans looking for work, it’s important to act quickly, but also act prudently. This bill will fail to have the necessary and direct impact it should – in part – because the Democrats rejected proposals to improve the legislation. The President has called on both parties to work together to solve this crisis; I hope Congressional Democrats will heed his call and listen to all ideas.

    I just saw Steele on FNC ask DNC Chair Kaine why Obama needed Republicans to vote for the pork-laden bill. Steele made the point that the Democrats have the votes they need to pass it without anymore Republicans – so why is Obama making a plea for Republicans to vote for it. Because Democrats want to share the blame when it tanks the economy even more. They want it to look like a bi-partisan failure.

  • Grassroots lobbying

    Obama has apparently pegged his reputation to the passage of this stimulus bill – that’s fine, because when it’s all said and done, he’d better be able to stand the criticism for the failure. But, he’s in Indiana today doing what he does best – campaigning for himself;

    We’ve had a good debate. Now it’s time to act,” Mr. Obama siad. “That’s why I am calling on Congress to pass this bill immediately.

    That’s like saying that “after we have a trial, we’re going to have a good hangin’”, doesn’t it? The media made sure that the only news came out of this was the President’s scare-language. How many have seen the media report the CBO findings that the stimulus will have the effect of slowing growth? Do a Google search – I found it mentioned once somewhere besides the Washington Times. In in one of US News and World Reports blogs.

    It’s almost as if the media wants Obama to fail by letting this bill pass.

    The defeatist language isn’t impressing people either. From Frank Luntz, quoted in the Washington Times;

    “Mr. Hope has to be careful not to become Dr. Doom,” said Frank Luntz[…]

    “The danger for him is using the Jimmy Carter malaise rhetoric, particularly for Mr. Obama, who was elected because people thought he was the solution. There’s only so much negativity they will tolerate from him before they will feel betrayed.”

    The grace of Gerald Ford coupled with Jimmy Carter’s doom and gloom malaise rhetoric – a one-term strategy.

  • Reparations we can believe in

    You’ve probably heard that John Conyers is back on the reparations mule. Ten years ago on January 6, 1999, Conyers tried to get his foot in the door with HR 40, here’s screen shot from thomas.loc.gov of that HR 40;

    Well, on January 6, 2009, Conyers dusted off that failed bill from 1999 and submitted it again with the same HR 40 designation;

    So that’s how the Democrats plan on healing the wounds of this country – by dividing us even further using the sins of people ages ago to suck even more money out our pockets. To make us MORE conscious of superficial differences in “Post-racial America”.

    In January, 2002, Thomas Sowell wrote this about the reparation scam;

    …the demand for reparations may seem like an exercise in futility. However, seen as a source of a lasting unmet grievance, it is a stroke of genius to keep blacks separated from other Americans and an aggrieved constituency to support black “leaders” in politics, organizations and movements.

    This demand also mobilizes a certain amount of support or sympathy among whites, especially those in the media and in academia, where such support or sympathy costs nothing, and allows those who give it to relieve their own sense of guilt, while risking other people’s money — and national cohesion. Some white politicians can also benefit at little or no cost to themselves by expressing sympathy with the reparations cause or even voting for meaningless apologies for what others did centuries ago.

    Not to mention that people like Jesse Jackson and the other race pimps stand between government and the Black community. He’s already been heard to say that individual reparations paid directly to the intended recipients would not benefit the Black community as much as if that same money was filtered through his grubby fingers first.

    Also, in 2002, Jesse Peterson wrote about Jesse Jackson and his ilk;

    The fading and desperate Jackson, who for over 30 years has built a lucrative career on the backs of black Americans, has paved the way for some of his “offspring” to push for reparations, a plot that if hatched will destroy the black community and divide our whole country. Among Jackson’s chief “descendants” are trial lawyer Johnnie Cochran, Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree, and Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., who, among others, have banded together on this unholy crusade.

    Masterfully, they have performed the two tasks on Jackson’s lifetime “To Do” list:

    1. Indict contemporary white America for something of which it is not guilty.
    2. Demand money, and lots of it.

    I can almost see a single tear roll down Jackson’s cheek.

    If Obama wants to be “everyone’s President” he should put anend to this farce and potentially the most divisive legislation since the “stimulus” bill.

  • Michael Steele’s weekly address

    The new RNC Chair lays out the Republican plan for stimulus;

    He briefly tells us out WHY the Democrat plan won’t work and offers the Republican plan – that’s what the Democrats failed to do in their eight years of being the Party of No. It’s easy to just oppose a measure, but offer us something in contrast. It looks like we have common sense at the helm again.

    Here’s the transcript;

    “This is Michael Steele, Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Democrats have controlled both branches of government for less than a month. And you have to wonder if all that power has gone to their heads.

    “For the last two weeks, they’ve been trying to force a massive spending bill through Congress under the guise of economic relief.

    “All of us — Republicans and Democrats — agree the government must act to kick-start the American economy. American families are doing their best to balance their own budgets and pay their mortgages.

    “The fastest way to help those families is by letting them keep more of the money they earn. Individual empowerment: that’s how you stimulate the economy.

    “But the Democrats have a different philosophy. Instead of leaving money in the family checkbook, they want to send it to Washington, run it through a slow and inefficient government, and hope that does some good.

    “When families keep the money, they spend it, save it, or invest it. And the private sector economy benefits when families and businesses buy consumer goods or invest it for the future. But when Washington spends the money, some of it may flow into the economy, but all too often, much gets wasted.

    “Democrats in Congress want a one-trillion dollar spending bill. You’ve heard about the pork-barrel programs they want to fund… 45 million dollars for ATV trails and removal of fish passage barriers is one that caught my eye. Exactly what is a fish passage barrier and why does it cost 45 million dollars to stimulate the economy with it?

    “That’s why Republicans in the House voted against uncontrolled spending. This is not a bragging point, but rather a statement that at least Republicans would stand with the American taxpayer.

    “But voting ‘no’ is not enough… and Republicans have offered innovative ideas to help struggling families and small businesses. We’ve offered plans to spark job creation and investment through lower taxes, to stop the taxation of unemployment benefits, and to help Americans keep their jobs and their homes.

    “The comprehensive Republican plan would lower taxes for all working American families. If you’re married, the first 16,750 dollars you make this year will be taxed at ten percent. Why don’t we cut that rate in half to give instant buying power to every working American family?

    “Good ideas… lots of them… all left out of this plan by the Democrats in Congress.

    “Republicans stand ready to work with reasonable Democrats to do what is right for America.

    “But it will take more than bipartisan words from the President. It will require fair-minded action from Democrats in Congress.

    Curt at Flopping Aces writes that Steele is cleaning house at the RNC – that’s what they’ve needed since the nineties.

  • Heh. My first El Tee in the news

    Yeah, OK I’m a few days behind the news, but I just thought I’d mention that Karl Eikenberry, Obama’s ambassador to Afghanistan, was my very first platoon leader when I was E-fricken-two in Bravo Company First of the Seventy Fifth Infantry back in nineteen seventy-five when they were still on Fort Stewart.

    I sure hope he’s less of a (ringknocker) dick now than he was then.

    I don’t fault him for working for the Obama Administration. If the Obama Adminstration asked me to be an ambassador for, say, oh, I don’t know…Panama for instance (hint, hint), I’d accept it.

    LT General Eikenberry has had a long and distinguished career, and I’m sure he’ll do a great job, but to me he’ll always be that dickhead El Tee back 34 years ago. So, I guess there won’t be any job offers to work on the diplomatic staff in Kabul coming my way anytime soon.

  • Another “Tradition” broken by the President

    “Patrick T” emailed us a link last night to a Yahoo/AP story about our dear President breaking yet another tradition.

    Departing from the South Lawn, Obama broke from tradition as he boarded Marine One, the presidential helicopter. He seemed to stun the Marine standing at attention by reaching out to shake his hand. The Marine obliged, shaking the president’s hand before returning to a steady salute.

    Since no one on the internet believes anything we write any more unless we have two sources they can click on from the comfort of their homes, here’s another account from the NY Daily News;

    The intimate moment came when Obama saluted and then gestured to shake the Marine’s hand (most Presidents just salute and then board the aircraft). The surprised Marine shook Obama’s hand, exchanged pleasantries and then snapped his arm back to full salute.

    There, we’ve fulfilled our obligation by spoon feeding the Leftist doubters their daily reason to hate us.

    Jon Ward in the Washington Times noted the difference between Bush and Obama;

    You can tell the difference between presidents — at least Bush and Obama — in the little things, and Obama’s gait on his way to the helo reflected the fact that this was a new experience for him. There was none of the familiarity that I so often saw watching Bush make this similar walk countless times.

    Because Bush had respect for the position he was elected to, while Obama still thinks he’s more important than the office. In a way, it’s probably true, because he’s the American Idol President and his “fans” are willing to forgive him every little mistake. Watch the comments to see what I mean.
