Can you spot the fear mongering in this Associated Press report?
A better question would probably be “Can you avoid the fear mongering in this report?”

See how easy it is to blame America for everything;
I think you’re going to see over the next four years, we’re going to be blamed for a lot of things that happen in the world when the world gets a whiff of the possibility of some of our taxpayer dollars. Those Democrats love to throw our money at stuff that’s not our fault to assuage their own guilt.
I guess it’s too much to blame the people in Mexico who caught the flu from the pigs in the first damn place.
Yeah, if you think that fly-over that Air Force One did over New York City yesterday was no big deal, you probably need to watch this video that I found at Hot Air (see how I linked, Hot Air Guys ?), thanks to a Facebook link from our buddy, Renwaa.
Can you imagine the paranoia and conspiracy theories if President Bush’s administration would have done that?
According to Audrey Hudson at the Washington Times, David Rehbein National Commander of the American Legion accepted an apology from Janet Napolitano in a private meeting yesterday;
“We connected meaningfully about the important issues that have emerged over recent days, and I offered him my sincere apologies for any offense to our veterans caused by this report,” Ms. Napolitano said. “I pledge that the department has fixed the internal process that allowed this document to be released before it was ready.”
David K. Rehbein, commander of the veterans group, told Fox News he has forgiven the department for the report, but he will not forget it happened.
“[Ms. Napolitano] said the report was not worthy of the department or the veterans of this country,” Mr. Rehbein said. “She gave us some explanation of how the report went out before it should have been released, before it was properly vetted by the senior leadership of the department.
The key is: Napolitano needs to know that we veterans won’t forget what that report said. We also won’t forget that the Administration thought of making troops with service connected disabilities pay for their own treatment and that the Presidentblew off the Medal of Honor recipients.
Fox News quoted Mr. Rehbein;
“She was very sincere,” he said. “She distinctly used the words ‘I’m sorry.’ And to me, that says that’s sincere apology. Her body language, everything about those first few minutes of the meeting told me this was a real apology coming from her heart.”
Not enough apologies in the world for having thoughts like her office expressed, but we’re all watching.
President Obama learned why we’ve frozen out Cuba from US relations for the last five decades. On Sunday, Obama sent a message to Raul Castro announcing his plans to lift some aspects of the embargo against the communist nation (McClatchey link);
If Castro wants to start a dialogue with the United States, he should start by releasing political prisoners and lowering the steep fees the Cuban government charges on money sent from abroad, Obama said.
In the meantime, his administration will examine what other steps can be taken toward ending decades of isolation between Washington and the hemisphere’s last communist nation.
So today, Fidel responds (Fox News/AP link);
Fidel Castro said Tuesday that President Barack Obama “misinterpreted” his brother Raul’s sentiments toward the United States and bristled at any suggestion Cuba should free political prisoners or reduce official fees on money sent to the island from the U.S.
How dare the US dictate policies to the Castros? In other words, they have no intention of ever allowing any meaningful measure of freedom. They want to continue with business as usual – stealing the bounty of the labor of everyday Cubans PLUS steal money from their relatives in the US, and they feel no compunction to abide by any deals with the US.
Damn, this is harder than just making campaign promises, isn’t it?

After Obama spent the weekend sucking up to the terrorist-supporting gang in Trinidad and Tobago, his administration seems surprised that Ahmadinejad went off on a tear today about Israel;
Addressing a UN conference against racism, Ahmadinejad criticized the creation of a “totally racist government in occupied Palestine” in 1948, calling it “the most cruel and racist regime.”
The remarks by Ahmadinejad — who has in the past denied the Holocaust — prompted 23 European Union delegations to walk out of the Geneva conference room in protest.
The United States and Israel were among countries which had already boycotted the meeting, refusing to attend at all due to its anticipated tone regarding the Jewish state.
So what did they expect? Obama spent the weekend glad handing with Daniel Ortega who ranted for 50 minutes about the US “aggression” in the last century. So what were the reactions of Obama and his staff? Hillary Clinton said “I thought the cultural performance was fascinating.”
Obama? Well, he’s just glad that Ortega only ranted about the US and not Obama specifically, “To move forward, we cannot let ourselves be prisoners of past disagreements. I’m grateful that President Ortega did not blame me for things that happened when I was three months old.”
Yeah, that’s our president, boys and girls. Only things that are directed at him are important. So Obama tells Israel that they need to withdraw from Jerusalem before the US gets involved in Iran’s nuclear program. So what does Ahmadinejad do? Takes full advantage of the weakling in the White House.
Yeah, I heard Janet Napolitano say the word “apology” on Fox News the other morning in regards to the threat assessment of the right, it it wasn’t attached to any other words so that it could in any, way, shape or form be construed as an actual apology. In fact, today in the Washington Times, she blames some nebulous “politicization” typical of Washington, DC for the furor;
“I regret that in the politicization of everything that happens in Washington, D.C., some took offense,” Ms. Napolitano said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The secretary defended the report, as she has since a report in The Washington Times detailed how it defined “rightwing extremism” as including pro-life and anti-immigration groups and cited Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh as an example of a disgruntled veteran.
“But I think any fair reading of the report says this is very consistent with other reports that have been issued before. . . . They are meant to give people what is called situational awareness, and they are certainly not intended to give offense – far from it.”
Well, in my opinion, ”politicization” is what caused the report. And if Napolitano had any veterans or pro-lifers or small government advocates in her office, she might have seen this coming. And it is hardly “politicization” when Democrat Congressman (who also happens to be Black) Bennie Thompson is outraged by the report. From a Washington Times article last week;
“This report appears to raise significant issues involving the privacy and civil liberties of many Americans including war veterans,” Mr. Thompson said in the letter sent Tuesday.
“As I am certain you agree, freedom of association and freedom of speech are guaranteed to all Americans whether a person’s beliefs, whatever their political orientation, are ‘extremist’ or not,” Mr. Thompson said.
The report “blurred the line,” and Mr. Thompson said he is “disappointed and surprised that the department would allow this report to be disseminated” to law enforcement officials nationwide.
For some reason, the only place I can find Thompson quoted is in the Washington Times – I guess no other news source is interested in the fact that there’s a Democrat who finds the report distasteful. And how do Democrat Iraq veterans in Congress respond (PhillyBurbs.com)?
Eighth District Democratic Congressman Patrick Murphy, who has gained notoriety as the first Iraq War veteran in Congress, had no comment on the report, according to his spokesman Adam Abrams.
Yeah, that’s how you man-up, Patty. Either you agree with it or you don’t…just say so. Stop hiding behind the skirts of your press office.
I’m sure you’ve all seen this video of CNN reporter Susan Roesgen confronting some poor unprepared guy in Chicago;
According to doupleplusundead, CNN tried to put a copyright on the video, but them damn bloggers won’t let this be buried.
But here’s what I heard in Roesgen’s responses to this guy; “Obama gave you a four hundred dollar tax credit and $50 billion to Illinois, so what’s you beef? Just shut up, take your crumbs and go home.”
Because CNN hadn’t approved the tea parties, the Tea Partyers are fueled by “Right wing conservative network Fox” and they’re “Anti-government. Anti-CNN.” Lady, most of us have been anti-CNN since 1992. Haven’t you been paying attention? If you think Fox is “right wing conservative” you’ve never watched the day time news programs. The anti-government part is ensconced in the Bill of Rights which was written to protect Americans from the government not to protect Americans from their own choices.
Did Obama really think we’d shut up if he gave us a $400 tax cut, for Pete’s sake?
