  • The attack last Friday

Somebody sneaked in our backdoor on Friday morning and tried to interrupt my vacation by goofing up the permalinks so no one could get to the comments. Luckily, I had my laptop with me and unscrewed the initial damage.

Apparently it happened to a lot of WordPress blogs. I think I’ve fixed it and restored the blog to it’s former grandeur. But, while trying to find the culprit (who made himself an invisible Administrator), I deleted a lot of unfamiliar user accounts. If you were a lurker who never posted, your account may be gone. It was nothing personal – I was lurching around trying to find the scummy turd. You only need to register again.

I’m sorry for any confusion I might have caused.

  • I know there’s a problem with comments

I think I fixed them, but you probably won’t be able to comment on posts that have been published before this one if I’ve fixed it. Try this one out to see if it posts comments.

Someone changed the permalink structure which goofed up all of the previous posts. I’m trying to fix this with a wine buzz (we’re passing through wine country – did you expect me to ignore it?) at 55 mph.

  • Little help; Open blog weekend

I’m making my annual trek to Mom’s house this weekend and probably won’t get much time to blog. One of my co-bloggers is AWOL, the other cracked a joke about porn to his IT folks who promptly took away his computer and lashed his wrists to his legs (guess which is which).

So I’m opening the blog up to you guys from Friday until Sunday while I’m knocking back Saranac beer in the wilds of the Finger Lakes region of New York.

Anyone who wants to try their hand at the challenging task of keeping a couple of thousand people entertained by commenting on the news, all you have to do is register (at the bottom of the sidebar) and email me your user name and I’ll set the permissions so you’ll be able to access the control panel and join the blogging team at TAH.

    Any takers?

  • We’re busy today

We’re working for you guys. We’ll be around soon.

  • Is Jonn the Harriet Tubman of IVAW?

    jonntubman1

    A wise man once said:

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests – we did. But you can’t hold a whole blog responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole blog system? And if the whole blog system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our media institutions in general? I put it to you, readers of TAH – isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America, Gentlemen.

Now, like the Chewbacca Defense, that does not make sense. But, I report you decide:

Is Jonn Lilyea the Harriet Tubman of the IVAW movement?

  • Amazon drops Kindle price

I don’t push my links on you folks very often, but Amazon just made it worth my (and your) while. I don’t know how many books ya’all read, but I read a ton a year. It was a main point of contention with my wife because I can’t seem to throw any away.  I looked at Kindle 1 last year and thought it was a great idea – no more arguments over our shrinking home and all the books I can read delivered in seconds. But it was too expensive, so I figured I’d wait.

  • Forum note

I noticed that 1stCavRVN11B dropped off a bunch of links to phony soldier stories in the forum, if you’re interested. 1stCav has been my biggest tipster on those types of stories – so now you get the stories straight from the master without suffering through my blabbering.

  • Forum update

As I promised, the forum has been installed on the blog. Ponsdorf is working feverishly to make it presentable. Please remember that it’s a very basic forum. There aren’t going to be a lot of bells and whistles although, it does fill some of the spaces missing on this blog like Private Messaging and the ability to send email to each other, if you want (it’s your option). I hope all of you, especially the lurkers, will take advantage of it.

I’ve also put the folks who installed the forum to work helping Ponsdorf, so I expect it to be up later on today or early tomorrow. In the meantime, you can register for the forum by registering for this blog down in the bottom right corner under “Meta”. If you’re already registered here, your registration has been carried over to the forum, so you don’t need to do it again.

Updated: I’ve been assured that the forum will be ready to roll tomorrow.
