  • The Nuge Says!

This post – posted without electricity BTW, was actually prompted  by Jonn’s post even if somewhat off topic.

NUGENT: Celebrate when good conquers evil

There is so much good news that goes largely unreported that it makes me want to scream. As I write this, just a couple of days ago, a 14-year-old boy in Phoenix who was watching his three siblings at home shot a punk who busted through a door and pointed a gun at the young man.

This is an incredibly wonderful news story that should be the lead story on the evening network news. It should be the front-page story in the New York Times. The Sunday morning talking heads should talk about it.

But it won’t be covered by the media. Outside of the Phoenix area and this opinion piece in The Washington Times, this wonderful good-news story will not be heard or read. What a shame.

I thought I was paranoid, but The Nuge explains why  I’m not.

  • Just in Case Ya Missed it? RE: Stolen Valor

Jonn put this up on FB, a coupla hours ago, but for those of you who don’t indulge:

ABC called to say that we’re going to be on ABC’s World News Tonight (whatever that is) so tell me how it turns out. I was angry guy.

    Update from the comments (Thanks):

MSNBC has an article AND a pix.

  • It Ain’t Over Quite Yet – Or Looking For A Silver Lining?

As TSO points out here there IS a bill pending that may actually be a better option for dealing with Stolen Valor anyway.

    The Summary:

Stolen Valor Act of 2011 – Amends the federal criminal code to subject an individual who, with intent to obtain anything of value, knowingly makes a misrepresentiation regarding his or her military service to: (1) a fine, one year’s imprisonment, or both if the misrepresentation is that such individual served in a combat zone or in a special operations force or was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor; and (2) a fine, six months’ imprisonment, or both, in any other case. Provides that: (1) this Act shall not apply to a misrepresentation that an individual did not serve in the Armed Forces, and (2) it is a defense to prosecution that the thing of value is de minimis.

Time to shake off this set back and get to work!

Just a FYI sort of reminder.

  • Remember this?

    I dunno if If I’ve posted this….

  • Silly Marine?

OWB alerted me to this a while ago, but I didn’t keep track.

My name is Jamie Summerlin and I’m a 39-year-old former Marine from West Virginia.

On March 26, 2012, I will start a 100-day cross country run as a fundraiser to support my fellow military members through the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and other Veteran’s organizations. It’s going to take 30-40 miles a day to complete the run, starting in Coos County, Oregon, where my wife is from, and finishing on July 4, 2012 in Annapolis MD, a total of just over 3300 miles.

Everyone I have talked to has said I am slightly insane, but they support me 100%. My wife is behind me completely as well, which makes this all the more possible.

OWB and her crowd helped him move through her patch in Charleston and now I have to get organized to, at least, cheer him on.

Looks like overnight stops are planned for Gassaway, Jane Lew,  and Morgantown. if I can find him I WILL have pictures.

Minor update: I’m aiming for Jane Lew this Saturday.

  • Questions That Don’t Get Asked Enough: Who Is A Veteran?

This post just might get me dumped at TAH? Paranoia strikes deep?

We have two formal institutions in this country that deal with Vets. The DVA and those programs for our retired military.

Each involves a set of bureaucrats, and yet they each stumble rather a lot. Anyone Surprised? Jonn has an agenda that may not survive. The noise about trimming Tricare is only temporarily abated.

Here’s the thing… Who in DC has the nerve to meld the two?

If our President, who never served in any military capacity gets re-elected what will get cut? This question is not the ravings of some crazy. President Obama’s second term is generating some non-trivial questions, not the least of which has to do with us? A second term means HE will decide…

Gonna refer back to a post I offered on the broader issue. Can’t leave Russ out either. Some vets are proactive.

Still… Do YOU want a voice? SOS is offering one.
