  • Frocked!

Gary Sinise must have the constitution of a bull. He and his band stay on the road even when his TV show is active.

Can’t wait to hear how he enjoys his first visit to a “Goat Locker”

MCPON Names Gary Sinise Honorary Chief

Actor, humanitarian and musician, Gary Sinise, was named an honorary chief petty officer during a ceremony held at the United States Navy Memorial and Naval Heritage Center Aug. 24.

BTW, still having connectivity problems with TAH. I hope this post is coherent, but…

  • A Man Has Passed On

Neil Armstrong is with us no longer.

    Fair winds and following seas.

A quiet man who eschewed publicity, he was a hero of mine. Somewhere there is a place for those that have been there, done that. It doesn’t welcome many, but I’d sure like to hear those stories.

  • Tossed a Coin… Who Loses? Re: Kerry

Aside to all: Started this post and then got hit by some technical/weather related glitches. Satellite internet can be a curse at times. Sincerely thought it was saved in draft form rather than posted so I could finish it later.  It’d be funnier if it hadn’t already happened (sorta) once today on another post.

Even half finished it awakened Insipid so I’ll let it stand with just a little minor editing.

Let us begin with Jonn’s post.

I won’t riff on Kerry, you are allowed to have your opinion.  [shrug]

Those of us who helped kick Kerry aside are once again being demeaned it seems. Mentioned a book in a comment, it’s a book that explains how a process led to a truth.. A truth that most can acknowledge without difficulty.

Kicked the exchange over to one of the authors and he told me about a price change.

My debate was whether to promo that a new price for the eReader version on FB or here. You lose

Said Scott: “I just dropped the Kindle price of TSTRS to $0.99, so it should be within most budgets.”

  • Blame it on Jonn – A Sunday Silly

In an odd confluence of events Jonn recently told me not to be so paranoid (via email) AND then posted this?

This post is to amplify MY concerns.

Let us start with a definition:

    paranoid [pær-n-d]

    1. (Psychiatry) of, characterized by, or resembling paranoia
    2. (Psychiatry) Informal exhibiting undue suspicion, fear of persecution, etc.

This poor Marine got taken in because he espoused weird ideas. Weird as defined by most rational folks.

But, where do we draw the line? As Jonn noted this particular case demands a deeper look.

Us ‘Nam vets have had an undeserved stigma attached for decades, but I think you’ll find few intercessions like this one.

Here’s the silly bit: Even though Mr. Raub was singled out is it paranoid for us vets to look over our shoulders? That DHS warning is quite real. Toss in the SPLC report and…

The question really does interest me. BTW, Jonn seems more concerned about zombies than I am. I am concerned about a trend here.

  • A Salute to Those That Wear The Hat

As it happens I’m gonna be spending some time with 1stCavRVN11B in a coupla weeks. Frankie Cee too, but this is for the grunts.

These folks visited central WV a while back:

    Jonn added; 68W58 sends a picture of him with his lovely wife, but I think he wants you to notice the Stetson;

  • Not Safe for Work – Emphasis! Maybe NOT Safe for TAH?

Damn you Troy via FB… So long Jonn, if this don’t crack you up you finally have an excuse to delete and dump me.

Still, the funniest thing I’ve seen for a while:

  • Geezer Action Pron – A Saturday Silly

Preface: I’m older than most here, less sane than most here, and certainly less physically able than some here to be grabbing a gun and chasing down bad guys. However, if said bad guys are foolish enough to offer a target that don’t require me to be chasing anyone – I’m game.

While I was once (I think) tough enough to bear hunt with a willow switch I’ve come to enjoy a more vicarious life.

That said: I do get a kick out of some of the comic book actions movies, I’ll admit, but there’s another sub-genre I call Geezer Action Pron that simply tickles me.

Take a marginally improbable plot, toss in some elder hero types – add guns, knives, and things that go BOOM, and Viola!

The first that comes to mind might be “Under Siege”, and/or even “Heartbreak Ridge” . Neither quite fits the spec, but… with lines like “He’s just a cook” and “you’re an anachronism” they do set a tone that jibes to me?

Then came “Red“! This one defined the genre quite nicely.

Then along came “The Expendables” to further refine the definition.

And now in less than a week we have “The Expendables – 2” coming to a nearby theater. Okay so this really doesn’t need a preview OR a trailer. It ain’t “Stars Wars” or LOTR, but I’m looking forward to it!

You folks got any suggestions I’ve missed that fit the genre?

ETA: I was so excited I left out “Second Hand Lions“.
