  • OK People, time to pay up for the charity date

So, as I mentioned earlier, the wounded warriors had an awesome date with Jamie.  And now comes the time to pay up if you offerred some cashola, and if you didn’t, please still consider offering some.  As my internet spouse states:

First of all I just want to thank everyone who participated, commented, and linked to our little date auction. I was really hoping to make $140 so we could sponsor a service member and you all overwhelmed us with support from our count we had $620 in bids and Tankerbabe panhandled the last $80 from everyone hanging out at O’Sullivans.

Defenders of Freedom is a wonderful organization that supports our service members in many ways, many of the same women that founded the organization also organize the DFW Welcome Home a Hero.

Anyway, please go to the Defenders of Freedom website and contribute. I’m doing it right now. And besides, how sweet is this picture:

  • TAH Photoshop contest

Looks like everyone is doing them, and so I asked my buddy Sniper to kick it off.  The only requirement is that you put AirForce 1 in the picture.

Anyway, I give you the “Imperial Economy Destroyer”:

Please email your addition to our public email address.  We’ll come up with some award for the winner.

  • Have you ever been close to tragedy or been close to folks who have?

[Title of thread provided by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, video at end of post]

A while back Jonn did a story about MacBeth in one of his insane videos. In that video MacBeth talks about an extreme element within IVAW that would engage in direct action. (Like 1:40 in is what you want to see.)

Now, I still think he is largely full of [IVAW] but there are things emerging which make his accusations considerably more plausible. It comes largely from the current civil war raging in IVAW. What started my interest was the part of Casey Porter’s phenomenal resignation letter that Jonn covered here.

For example, Carl Webb places IVAW in a very serious position through his advocacy of radical action from the safety of his keyboard. Advocating of sabotage and other such actions puts other people’s lives at risk and IVAW by not condemning such rhetoric and disassociating itself from persons who advocate sabotage places all members in a compromised position. It now becomes dangerous to any active duty soldier who wants to speak out by giving the Army the ammunition it needs to paint IVAW as a radical and dangerous organization. If it went to trial, all a prosecutor would have to do is point out these posts and that alone could sway a Military Jury into believing the organization is radical and advocates sabotage. And yet, IVAW is silent on Carl Webb and his methods that place other soldiers in harm’s way. There is a time for forgiveness and tolerance, but I cannot be part of an organization that will not take action when a member willfully advocates putting others in harm’s way. By allowing people like Carl Webb to remain a part of IVAW, not only does IVAW have a serious legal issue, it also keeps other potential members from joining.

Further, Porter talked about the same thing in an interview he gave to the Austin Chronicle, where he said:

“I’m honoring the contract. I work hard; I don’t do shortcuts. One person in the anti-war community suggested I do sabotage. Absolutely not. I’m doing this, obviously for the Iraqis but for the other soldiers, because they’re the ones in the wringer.”

The more I read about Casey, the more I am impressed. He didn’t only disavow sabotage; he talked about doing what he was obligated to do. As Robert E. Lee once said: “Duty is the most sublime word in the English Language.”

  • If you ever wanted to see a pissed off TSO, come to my office…

So, as you know, we had a milblog conference this weekend.  The Washington Times kindly attended and covered it.  From their article:

Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, lamented “stereotypes” about veterans: Veterans are often presented as “unhinged” and prone to violence. The panelists on veterans affairs were unanimous: The media highlight stories in which violence occurs, they said. What about all the productive work of veterans? Many veterans continue to be community leaders after their military service; they carry on the values of serving the common good and remain role models.

Wow, Paul’s statement almost makes sense doesn’t it?

Except…..PAUL WASN’T THERE, THAT WAS ME THAT SAID THAT!!!!!!

ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!  I’m joining Cartman’s pirate group, because the rules of our society are too stringent, and the DHS is already watching me.

Ok, On slight edit as the Xanax kicks in, I hate to be mad because honestly this author seemed VERY nice, and getting us print is always a good thing.  Always.  But confusing me with Paul?  Krusty the clown I get.  Maybe the time to make the donuts guy.  But Paul?  I mean, Paul?????

  • Honoring courage, be it American or not. Vive la Legion!!!!

I generally honor this day each year with a post, and this year shall be no different.  It’s a story of honor and courage, and the Monument built to these heroes is where I got the quote that I had inscribed in my Citadel ring.  Hope you enjoy.

HERE, THEY WERE LESS THAN SIXTY
    AGAINST A WHOLE ARMY
    ITS NUMBER CRUSHED THEM
    BUT LIFE RATHER THAN BRAVERY
    LEFT THESE FRENCH MEN
ON THE 30TH OF APRIL 1863.

    TO THEIR MEMORY
    THE COUNTRY BUILT THIS MONUMENT

Yup, that is me on my cool Bear that I got for killing Thrall the Orc Leader, Bloodhoof the Tauren, Sylvanas Windrunner of the Undead, and Lor’thermar Theron of the Blood Elves.

BTW- That is Claymore playing as Dreadbeard.

Now you know why Caro wants me so bad.

  • Some Truths about Desertion

Dude, sometimes this blogging this is so easy a Caveman can do it. Case in point….

Got an email from Raoul about this post. “Cliff Cornell was denied sanctuary in Canada. He will face general courts martial Tuesday, April 28 at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.” The money shot quote from me was some genius from Courage to Resist.

“This is outrageous,” said Jeff Paterson of Courage To Resist, a war resister support group that has established a legal defense fund for Cornell. “The U.S. war against the Iraqi people remains illegal today, just as when George Bush and Dick Cheney started it,” said Paterson. “President Obama should bring all our troops home now. And he should grant amnesty to Cliff Cornell and hundreds of GI’s who refused to take part in an occupation that has killed untold tens of thousands of men, women and children.”

Really? Is that why people are deserting? Well, not according to my new friend LTC Nathan Banks, hero, scholar, Dancing with the Stars winner and PAO:

  • Good Riddance

Specter to go to the Dems, and I couldn’t be happier since that piece of crap has been screwing America for years. Despite being a lawyer, he knows as much about law as I do Cricket.

I hope Toomey beats him into the ground.

Jonn added: I think I can safely say that is the official position of This Ain’t Hell on Arlen Spector.

Shock value? It’s like Tom Cruise telling us he’s gay.
