  • Wrong Family in the Rose Garden

America was recently treated to a heart-warming display of presidential warmth, sympathy and concern when our commander in chief lent his magisterial presence in a particularly personal way to a Rose Garden photo opportunity. Barack Obama personally led the nation in welcoming the return from behind enemy lines of PFC Bowe Bergdahl in the presence of Bergdahl’s parents in a highly scripted event on the White House grounds. After Bergdahl senior stepped to the lectern and demonstrated in Arabic or Pashto where his true loyalties lie, our ever so solicitous chief executive escorted the happy family away from the ceremony with a comforting presidential hand on the centers of both their backs.

Even before this ceremony, Internet buzz, especially among those in the military and veterans, was that the guy the president was honoring before the entire world was in fact an undeserving deserter, possibly a defector and most likely a collaborator with the enemy. Coming out of all that buzz was the heretofore unknown information that there were at least a half-dozen or more young soldiers killed in the efforts expended by the American military forces in Afghanistan to recover the rogue soldier who’d gone through the wire.

At minimum, six Gold Star Mothers lost their sons in a futile effort to recover a possible traitor. While Bergdahl’s family is treated to a celebratory Rose Garden event by a super solicitous president, not a one of those grieving mothers of the dead searchers is given the time of day by the most agenda driven and politically motivated commander-in-chief of our armed forces this nation has ever seen. A Rose Garden stroll? Sure, but what’s in it for Barry, hmmm?

Military deaths must be sorted and categorized, you see, by this most transparent of administrations, for their relative political value. Deaths that can advance their politically correct, socialist agenda become high value opportunities. Should that political value be lacking, then meh…not so much. But in the case of Bergdahl, this tender flower child with ballet skills and inclined to ethereal walk-abouts is obviously poster material for liberal causes, so we will level the full force and presence of the United States government to enshrine him as a hero.

Oh, the families of those killed in the search for our precious little flower?

Tough…they’ll just have to work through it on their own.

Hey, this is the office of the commander of the chiefs; we’re busy, ya know?

  • A ‘Black Heart’ medal for Bergdahl’s No-Show Officers

This Bergdahl swap is emitting a growing stench that is more apparent to those who are serving and those who have served. A huge question is why those who served in Bergdahl’s squad, platoon and company may have been intimidated into silence by being required to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements by their superiors. My take on that is that the Army and the Obama administration were embarrassed by the desertion and probable defection of an American G.I. in Afghanistan. Knowing what I have learned in the past five years about this “most transparent” administration, they were eager to avoid the negative publicity such an event might generate.

Bergdahl’s squad members have ignored the looming threat of those non-disclosure agreements to appear on the FOX News Channel and openly express their views that Bergdahl is clearly a disaffected young soldier who deserted his post. They are right to speak their minds because those Non-Disclosure Agreements were worthless from the get-go. NDA’s are used to insure that people who are about to enter into proprietary or classified environments will not reveal anything regarding the information to which they are about to be given access. They are not sworn to reveal that which they already know to be fact and may be called on to testify about. That would be an ex-post-facto NDA.

Further, an NDA is a contract binding the signatories. Basic contract law will tell you that no contract is valid if one of the contracting parties is doing so under duress. The very fact that these enlisted men in Bergdahl’s squad were asked by their superiors to sign such a document implies duress because of the reality that the signatory’s continued successful service and promotion, within his unit and beyond, is totally dependent upon the approval and recommendation of those requesting his acquiescence. Those unequal bargaining positions also raise the issue of inequality of parties, another legal doctrine that can invalidate a contract when one party has power and position so as to overwhelm the other.

So Bergdahl’s enlisted brothers have come forward with first-hand testimony to prevent the Obama administration and the Democrat party from embracing another false hero, as they too frequently have done in the past. They are the party of Stolen Valor, embracing and protecting those who disgrace their service with phony medals and awards. Those Democrat politicians who have ridden that terrible lie into office deserve nothing but icy contempt from the honest veterans in America.

I have saved the last couple of paragraphs to shame the officers of Bergdahl’s unit. They, just like their enlisted men, had to know Bergdahl was a deserter, but in this battle for the honor of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, the very first paratrooper organization America ever fielded, with many battle ribbons and a proud heritage earned around the world, those officers are silent. Rather than support those troops they led into battle, they sit back and let the enlisted men carry the load. That abandonment of their paratroopers in a time of high crisis is disgraceful and should plague their souls to their graves. They quit. That is the ultimate disgrace in Airborne units where the motto, “All the Way,” carries a very special meaning, that the unit, its officers, its non-coms and the troops are committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve the mission, and if it brings death, so be it, I will have died honorably with my paratrooper brothers. And yet, when their men need them most, the officers of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment quit; they have deserted the battlefield every bit as much as PFC Bergdahl. For them I propose an award:

The Black Heart, a flat-black medal with the point of the heart upwards to be awarded to deserters, whether they be those who go out through the wire or those who silently desert their responsibilities by shrinking into quiescent anonymity, leaving their men out there, as the only troopers bearing the colors of the regiment.

    Call them the no-shows.

  • A Dishonorable Discharge…Flowing from the White House

Barack Obama’s best case yet for his own ineptitude comes in the form of the White House’s attempt to dig itself out of the deepening hole of the Bergdahl swap. This has become the public relations equivalent of a field latrine.

As most of you know, Bergdahl’s fellow soldiers, with whom he was serving when he deserted, have come out fighting against the White House propaganda campaign to make a hero out of a despicable defector and enemy collaborator. In none of the interviews I’ve watched has a single one of those paratroopers followed the administration’s line that Bergdahl served with honor and distinction. Rather, they courageously deny it, to a man, in spite of the fact that many of them were required to sign non-disclosure agreements by their superiors.

According to a usually supportive mainstream media source, Obama’s unicorn cavalry expected to ride their horned steeds in a ticker-tape parade led by their returned hero, the only POW of the Afghan War, himself marching at the head of the Rainbow Ranger Band. It just so fits the liberal image of how war should be – so deliciously Hollywood and Busby Berkeley.

As NBC’s Chuck Todd put it, the Obama administration were “caught off guard” when the Bergdahl swap turned out to be not dazzling fireworks, but more of a rolling live grenade. Perhaps if that bunch of buffoons had bothered to do a simple Google search prior to launch, they could have foreseen that Bergdahl’s release might be problematic; there were investigations in 2010 that showed that their honorable soldier was most likely a deserter in time of war, a violation of Article 85 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice that carries with it the possibility of capital punishment.

Now, with even some of their most loyal media lapdogs nipping at their heels, the Democrats are resorting to an old tactic that is truly despicable: attacking the honorable warriors who served with the Dems’ dishonorable deserter. John Nolte at Breitbart.com reports that Chuck Todd is saying that the White House staffers are now referring to the brave men who served with Bergdahl and are coming forward to expose the Democrat lies as “swift-boaters.”

Democrats have never accepted that they almost elected a dishonorable traitor to the White House until John Kerry’s fellow sailors came forward and exposed Jean Fraud as just that: a fraud and military poseur who had inflated his résumé and who, to this day, has never released his military records. In the military community, it is widely believed that he cannot release these records because they will show that he received a less than honorable discharge from the Navy for his unauthorized treating with the enemy at the Paris Peace Talks as a still-serving Naval Reserve officer. It’s rumored that that discharge was later changed to honorable during the opening months of the Carter administration, when “Jimma” was busy pardoning every draft-dodger on the planet.

Those who saved the country from electing Kerry were the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a group of warriors I was proud to support with my writings throughout the 2004 campaign. The Democratic Party and their lapdog media attacked these brave veterans mercilessly, with every form of lie and smear, but it did them no good; the public could see who looked into the cameras without guile and spoke honestly of their Vietnam experiences. The records-hiding Kerry looked like the deer in the headlights, and he lost, although not by as much as he should have due to the media’s smearing of the Swiftees.

The Democrats have never forgotten or forgiven. In their political lexicon, swift-boating is a pejorative, but as Nolte points out, “[w]hat ‘swift boating’ really means to Democrats is the use of facts against their phony narratives.” I would add to that “honest warriors exposing Democrat politicians guilty of stolen valor.”

It would be helpful if some Army officers who were in the command structure of the 501st Airborne Infantry at the time Bergdahl deserted came forward and supported their men, as Navy admirals did for the Swiftees. Of that, however, I am not hopeful, considering the lack of courage in today’s senior officer corps. Should the long-ago lieutenant-colonel who was battalion commander at that time read this, this old trooper would plead with him to remember the motto of the Airborne – “All the Way!” – and let his courage match that of his men.

So here we are, ten years later, dealing with an altogether different war, and once again, when American warriors speak truth to Democrat lies, they are viciously attacked. One has to wonder if, should the Gold Star Mothers who lost their sons, men killed while searching for Bergdahl, start speaking up against the administration’s spin, they will be dismissed for swift-boating poor Bowe. They’ll probably have to recall Hillary to active duty to do something that cold.

It remains to be seen if the media will be so easily led this time around. Surely, even some in the liberal media will hold their noses at this dishonorable discharge flowing from the White House and not let Democrats, desperate to defend their darling deserter, get away with scapegoating soldiers who did in fact serve with honor and distinction.

  • Treason Trifecta: Bergdahl is a Deserter, Defector, and Collaborator

Forgive the cynicism of this old infantry sergeant when it comes to media depictions of anyone and anything associated with the military. But they inevitably get it wrong: ranks, unit designations, and terminology. And most of all, what they never seem capable of comprehending is the military mindset regarding loyalty to your brothers in arms and the importance of successfully completing the mission. Except for the minuscule few veterans among them, journalists just don’t get it.

Let us hope that in the case of this recently apprehended deserter, Bowe Bergdahl, they will resist their natural compulsion to brand another American traitor a hero. Several liberal media outlets appear to be taking a balanced position rather than swallowing whole the Obama administration’s propaganda.

Notice that I do not use the term “POW” for the simple reason Bergdahl disgraces that description of his captivity. He is a wartime collaborator, or more precisely, a collaborationist, the term applied to treasonous soldiers who defected to the enemy in earlier wars. And apprehended is the correct term to apply to a deserter/defector now back under U.S. Army control in Germany.

Bergdahl deserted his platoon to fulfill what may turn out to be a family-concocted book-deal plan to undermine the mission of American troops in Afghanistan. His recorded words and those of his father indicate their sympathies to those Islamists we are fighting. PFC Bergdahl’s fuzzy, feel-good airs and mysterious conversations may well have been contrived to justify and camouflage his true intent to desert his post and go over to the enemy.

A truly surprising source, CNN, probably trying to compensate for its usual liberal bias, has disclosed that someone in government, presumably in the military command structure, tried to throw a blanket over Bergdahl’s defection early on:

Many of Bergdahl’s fellow troops – from the seven or so who knew him best in his squad to the larger group that made up the 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division – told CNN that they signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl’s disappearance and the efforts to recapture him. Some were willing to dismiss that document in hopes that the truth would come out about a soldier who they now fear is being hailed as a hero, while the men who lost their lives looking for him are ignored.

America should be particularly proud of those troopers willing to risk prosecution to get the truth out about this phony hero and our government’s attempts to sweep that truth under the rug. Any of them who have a Republican or conservative Democrat senator or congressman should contact those officials immediately to obtain whistleblower protections. The rest of us need to let our political representatives know that we are going to fight, and that we want them to fight as well, any efforts by the Obama administration to whitewash this issue.

PFC Bergdahl’s premeditated acts of desertion, defection, and collaboration with the enemy resulted in the deaths of several American soldiers. For that, he must pay – if not with his life, which existing law permits, then with lifetime incarceration at Fort Leavenworth.

  • A Five-Sided Kennel of Cowardice

That lukewarm reception Barack Obama received at West Point last week was indicative of the widely held view among the troops that the man is a truly incompetent commander in chief, or as the language-mangling Al Sharpton might say, “the Commander of the Chiefs.” Notice that I said the troops, not their senior leadership. If our Pentagon weren’t currently occupied by the perfumed princes of political correctness, we might be seeing some courageous generals and admirals falling on their swords and exposing this failure of leadership instead of enabling it. Those ambitious cowards should ponder the reality that neither “I was only doing my duty” nor “I was only following orders” is a viable defense.

It is this failure of courage by our military leaders that has allowed this dilettante president and his inexpert staff to make one unwise military decision after another, with a compounding effect of weakening and endangering America’s forces around the world. The latest example is this political stunt of releasing five high-level terrorists in exchange for one American soldier who most likely is a treasonous deserter who should be in Gitmo himself. In doing so, this lawless “Commander of the Chiefs” has ignored another federal law that was passed precisely to prevent this sort of executive overreach.

There is no way that the White House could have pulled off this “wag the dog” stunt without considerable acquiescence from the highest levels of our military leadership. Those perfumed princes, led by their secretary of defense, have made themselves complicit in the crime by carrying out an order that they all knew to be unlawful. Moreover, they had concluded that Bergdahl was a deserter back in 2010, according to media reports that broke yesterday. They had the testimony of PFC Bergdahl’s fellow paratroopers that he was a deserter, supported by the content of e-mails sent to his parents. Does packing his clothes for their return to his parents in the days preceding his desertion not imply premeditation, rather than spontaneous disorientation or capture? And in spite of that knowledge, our vaunted military leaders went along with this administration’s foolish stunt that now will endanger yet more of our warriors by encouraging kidnapping by terrorists.

What is truly disheartening is that not a single one of the perfumed princes had the courage or honor to resign in protest.

Democrat strategists in the administration, watching their president getting hammered by scandal after scandal, were no doubt encouraged by this lack of opposition from the lie-down leadership of our military. It also likely fed the confidence of the Screw the Constitution Cabal in this administration that they could proceed to ignore the law and that Obama could once agian flip a defiant bird to effete Republican leadership in Congress. And that confidence in turn reinforced their belief that this prisoner-swapping stunt could be pulled off, distracting the president’s critics and providing some respite from the building wave of disillusionment in the electorate regarding Democrat leadership.

A single, public resignation by a single honorable four-star could have stopped this executive branch arrogance in its tracks, like a kitchen light breaking up a roach-fest.

Thus, the overconfident political strategerists encouraged their exalted leader to defy a clearly drawn congressional red line, which requires the secretary of defense to provide Congress with thirty days’ prior notice of any such prisoner exchange. If our Republican congressional leaders roll over on this act of defiance, then they will have proved their red lines to be as meaningless as Obama’s.

Let us hope there are some braver souls in Congress looking at Obama’s unlawful action as the basis for yet another indictment in a growing body of charges to support articles of impeachment. And yes, I’m fully aware that there is virtually no chance that Obama could be both impeached and convicted, but the reality is, he can be impeached. It would be a significant repudiation and disgrace for both him and his party.

Should this country regain enough political sanity to elect a Republican president in 2016, high on that president’s list of things to do should be a clean sweep of the Pentagon, starting with the service secretaries, then the Joint Chiefs, the service chiefs of staff, their staffs, and then all the generals and admirals advanced to major commands around the world appointed by this corrupt Obama administration. They should then be replaced with warfighters who recognize that their sworn loyalty is to the Constitution, not the tenets of political correctness. Pick leaders who fully comprehend that the primary mission of our military is to defend our nation, not to be an incubator of socialist experimentation. The process should be dubbed Operation Spinal Implant.

At this moment, while writing, I am listening to this traitorous deserter, Bergdahl, being applauded as a hero, which truly sickens me. And even now, as this is happening, not one of our military leaders has the courage to step forward with the truth and prevent the liar in the White House and his Democrat loyalists from foisting another huge fraud on the American people. Thank goodness the troops are speaking out, undeterred by the spinelessness of their leadership.

One has to wonder if there’s mandatory neutering for these former dogs of war upon being assigned to lapdog duty in that five-sided kennel of cowardice.

    Postscript:

Senator John McCain, when asked by Greta Van Susteren about Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey’s role in the prisoner exchange:

General Dempsey is irrelevant in any discussion of national security.

    The author rests his case…

  • Not a Smart Trade, Sir

    Not a Smart Trade, Sir

There’s an old joke here in Arkansas about President Clinton returning to his home state for a Razorbacks championship football game. While there, he’s given two cute little piglets by a wealthy agribusiness, Razorback alumnus. As he later disembarks Marine 1 on the White House lawn Bill has a cute piglet under each arm. At the foot of the stairway, a sharp young Marine lance corporal snaps a smart salute and barks, “Nice pigs, Sir!” A grinning Clinton hoists them a bit higher and says, “Yeah, they a couple of real Arkansas beauties aren’t they; I got one for Hillary and one for Janet Reno.”

The Marine, still holding his salute says, “Smart trade, Sir!”

Well, it would appear that America’s second black president isn’t quite as adept at hog-swapping as America’s first black president was. As we have learned in the past twenty-four hours, our outlaw president has taken it upon himself to ignore the law and oversee a prisoner trade between our country and the Taliban.that is so one-sided as to once again demonstrate to the world that in the Obama White House, ineptitude is the acceptable standard of performance.

Obama got his pig, and I make no apology for that description of PFC Bergdahl (he was promoted to sergeant while being held captive) for this is where this discussion turns deadly serious. As a former non-commissioned officer who served in combat with another airborne unit, my first reaction upon hearing of Bergdahl’s desertion many years ago was, get him back, give him a fair court-martial and put him in front of a firing squad. Good, honorable paratroopers lost their lives searching for this treasonous bastard. Various sources from Bergdahl’s unit, the 501st Airborne Infantry are reporting in around the Web with this information:

PFC Matthew Michael Martinek, Staff Sgt. Kurt Robert Curtiss, SSG Clayton Bowen, PFC Morris Walker, SSG Michael Murphrey, 2LT Darryn Andrews, were all KIA from our unit who died looking for Bergdahl. Many others from various units were wounded or killed while actively looking for Bergdahl.

Those deaths, every single one, are on Bergdahl’s head. For the squeamish among you who find my opinion too harsh, here’s Article 85 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the statutory regulation dealing with desertion:

    (c) Any person found guilty of desertion or attempt to desert shall be punished, if the offense is committed in time of war, by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct, but if the desertion or attempt to desert occurs at any other time, by such punishment, other than death, as a court-martial may direct.

And there is damning evidence against PFC Bergdahl from those in his unit. He made no secret of his disillusionment with America, sending emails to his parents, one of which contained this statement, “The system is wrong. I am ashamed to be an american. And the title of US soldier is just the lie of fools…I am sorry for everything here”

Notice that non-capitalization of American. A fellow trooper, Jason Fry, has reported that Bergdahl told him, “If this deployment is lame, I’m just going to walk off into the mountains of Pakistan.”

So yes, we can court-martial this dishonorable deserter whose selfish views and actions caused all those unnecessary deaths and take his life or lock him away for the rest of it for the simple reason that the son of a bitch walked out on his band of brothers in an active combat zone in an act of betrayal that caused the deaths of his brothers in arms who willingly went in search of him, to save his sorry, weasel ass. Those events have immeasurable consequences on those both above and below his rank that he deserted. There is no greater crime that a combat infantryman can commit than desertion to the enemy on the battlefield. Were he to be judged by his fellow paratroopers, he’d be dead in the blink of an eye for the deaths that he caused. He willingly manipulated and violated the code of, “No man left behind,” for his own selfish sense of fulfillment that proved deadly to troopers in the 501st Infantry, and who knows how many more in special operations, who sent in patrols for years trying to find this weak-ass traitor.

So, Mister President, in another demonstration of your unprecedented presidential ineptitude, you just unleashed five, ferociously rabid, bloody-tusked, Islamic boars on our world and our troops for a weak-ass, whiny, little piglet traitor that would fit neatly under Bill Clinton’s arm.

    Not a smart trade, Sir…

  • Mark Pryor: Another Democrat Liar

How do you know when a Democrat politician is running scared? That’s easy; it’s when he trots out that old Democrat chestnut that his opponent is out to destroy Medicare and Social Security.

Every election cycle, you can bet the farm that a few desperate Dems will begin running television ads aimed to scare the old folks – that sector of society whose desperate fear is losing their medical care and those twice-monthly checks that they worked all their lives for.

Seniors are America’s best voters, but they are also the demographic most dependent on television as their primary news source. Many can no longer read the small newsprint in newspapers, and only a small portion of them are computer-literate. So those Democrat ads are indeed effective in striking fear into older Americans.

Cruel, isn’t it? Damnably heartless and despicable come to mind. One has to wonder if these Dem candidates who spread these callous lies call up their own aged parents and grandparents and reassure them that they shouldn’t worry, that it’s just politics. Yet they have no compunction about planting a cold seed of fear in the hearts and minds of the rest of the old folks out there, purely for political gain.

Such a cold fish liar is Mark Pryor, Democrat incumbent senator here in Arkansas, a state with a growing retiree population, the perfect target for such targeted deceptive advertising. Pryor, raised as a true-believer Democrat by his politician father, marches in lockstep with his party with incredible obedience, devotion, and fervor. Well, at least until re-election time rolls around and it comes time for Pryor to dance his little sidestep around all the lockstep loyalty demonstrated by his voting patterns for the past five years.

Ooh I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don’t,

I’ve come and gone and, ooh I love to sweep around the wide step,

Cut a little swath and lead the people on.

    – Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, 1982

Watch that video and tell me it isn’t just too easy to picture Porky Pryor’s face on the corpulent Charles Durning, whose real-life credentials as a combat infantryman in WWII cause Pryor’s privileged path to politics to pale in comparison.

Tom Cotton, Pryor’s hard-charging young Republican challenger, is as much an opposite figure as any campaign manager could pray for. Cotton, with the lean face and figure that reflect his service as a combat Army infantry officer in our Mideast wars, comes from a comfortable family background just like Pryor. However, how the two chose to use their respective springboards of financial comfort and influence is where their paths diverge: Pryor pursued privilege, while Cotton chose combat

I sincerely hope that Cotton’s campaign has the good sense to produce a television ad pointing out that Pryor’s lies about Medicare and Social Security being targeted by the Republicans are as empty and baseless as they have been for decades.

  • General Shinseki, Duty, Honor, Country

    General Shinseki, Duty, Honor, Country

General officers in the Army have spent at minimum, two decades, observing the honor system that demands they accept responsibility for the failures that occur within their commands; the term for a superior officer accepting that responsibility is, “Falling on your sword.”

Which then begs the question; why has Eric Shinseki, whom I don’t particularly care for as a too politically correct general, ignored the officers’ honor code and not fallen on his sword? Perhaps it is because he has been ordered by his commander-in-chief not to do so. I believe it is Barack Obama and his constantly scheming political staff who have seen that a Shinseki resignation is an indicator of failure and just as they have done with Fast and Furious, Benghazi and the IRS scandals, they’re going to dig in and tough it out.

The possible problem with that strategy is that with this latest scandal, they may not have a solid line of defense from the Democrats on Capitol Hill and perhaps not even in their usually compliant, lapdog media. This is not an issue that involves a few hundred dead Mexican citizens and a couple of murdered federal agents, all dead by the hand of this inept administration. Nor is it an outraged segment of their political opposition unfairly targeted in an administration directed campaign of political harassment and suppression by the IRS.

Nope…this time the hapless fools have made the cardinal mistake of stepping onto that politically fatal third rail, the care of America’s war veterans. Were our wars all in the distant past, they could possibly, with the aid of their compliant media, sweep this latest scandal under the rug. But America, even now in our cowardly and ignominious withdrawals from all those nations we had vowed to free from religious terror and tyranny, still has fresh wounded returning from far-flung battlefields, many with grievous injuries that will place them at the mercy of this failed Veterans Administration bureaucracy for the remainder of their lives.

I doubt that even the most craven Democrat Senators and Congressmen are willing to face the wrath of their righteously angry constituents by siding with this clearly incompetent administration when it comes down to depriving America’s injured warriors and their families of the care and support they so desperately need. Those Democrats with their noses in the political wind are already placing distance between themselves and those losers in the White House. You can be sure there will be more to follow.

So let’s get back to Shinseki and his unwillingness to follow the tradition of the Long Grey Line by accepting responsibility and resigning. I’m no admirer of Shinseki’s, believing him to be a product of affirmative action and a willing promoter of political correctness and debilitating liberal social experimentation in our military. Suffice it to say, he’s a Clinton creation but still, he’s a product of a long-established system that holds honor above all other human traits. Eric Shinseki needs to distance himself from those political manipulators using him to shield themselves from the righteous wrath of the citizenry.

Eric Shinseki needs to ponder his old Cadet Honor Code, but even more so, MacArthur’s instruction of Duty, Honor, Country, and recognize that the old general put those requirements in ascending order of importance where both Honor and Country prevail over duty. General Shinseki, please put your personal and professional honor, and most especially your country ahead of any duty you may feel to this aborted administration. Resign, Sir, please, and let these miserable politicians take their rightful blame.

    For once…
