  • Choi Discharged for DADT

Everybody’s favorite Don’t Ask Don’t Tell attention-whore Lt. Dan Choi was discharged from the National Guard today. From ABC News:

Lt. Dan Choi has been discharged from the Army National Guard.  The Iraq war veteran became one of the most outspoken critics of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy on homosexuals in the military after outing himself as a gay soldier on national television.

Choi told ABC News that his battalion commander called him Thursday morning to notify him of his honorable discharge under the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.

In a statement he said, “After 11 years since beginning my journey at West Point and after 17 months of serving openly as an infantry officer this is both an infuriating and painful announcement.”

I’ve stated before on this site that I think it is time to make changes DADT (in a reasonable and logical manner however). However, Lt. Choi’s conduct since he outed himself on the The Rachel Maddow  has been completely unbecoming of an officer and I don’t think he deserved that honorable discharge. In many ways, this is what he wanted. He wanted to be a martyr for gay rights and most importantly he wanted the attention. He will probably get both.

    Added Sporkmaster:
Seems he is likes the feel of steel. He was recently arrested today with eleven other people for chaining himself to the White House gate, again.

  • HuffPo Poster Claims To Know More About War Than People Who Have Actually Been In One

Nick Turse over at the Huffington Post knows a lot about war, even though he has never been in one. He knows so much in fact that he can tell people like Sebastain Junger who has actually in been in a war that they don’t know what they are really talking about.

Turse has a lot of issues with Junger, which really boil down to the fact that Junger didn’t make an anti-war film (It should be pointed out that Turse wrote a book about why we should withdraw from Afghanistan). More below the fold…

  • Saturday Stuff

Most of our readers and regular posters are enjoying their 4th of July weekend and not spending very much time near their computers, so I don’t expect a lot of posts or comments. For those of you who are like me and are staying home this weekend, here is some stuff that you should see.

First, here is a video of TAH friend Pete Hegseth smacking down Elene Kagan in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee:

If you got some extra cash and want to help elect some real warriors to Congress, donate to Vets for Freedom.

This essay by dead communist historian Howard Zinn is making the rounds on far-left websites. Basically it says we should be ashamed of our country on the 4th of July. Pretty typical, but if you feel like getting pissed off, read it.

Bite Me is in Iraq this weekend in order to help the Iraqis form a new government. Of course, Bite Me is perfect for the job of helping to form a unity government, especially considering he strongly advocated breaking the country into three seperate states… oh wait. Iraqis are tired of the violence. The Sunnis don’t want Al Qaida to come back, the majority of Shiites have turned agains the Sadrists, and the Kurds want a strong Iraqi state to deter Turkish incursions into their autonomous region. Iraq can work, but I don’t think we have the right people going over there to help.

William Kristol slams Michael Steele for talking out of his ass about Afghanistan and states he should resign. Steele should have resigned a long time ago, but he has stubbornly held on to the position of RNC Chairman and has completely marginalized the RNC. Very few Republican candidates and conservative groups work with or get help from the RNC anymore. I hope this is the final straw for Steele, he is completely incompetent.

I hope you all have a great 4th of July weekend.

  • This Is Why College Is A Joke

I found this story while reading Uncle J’s post about SSG Giunta over at Big Government. Apparently Dear Leader Obama has been ranked as the 15th best President of all time by a group of “leading presidential scholars” (read: a bunch of liberal poly sci professors). Some quotes from the article:

The Siena College poll, which surveyed 238 presidential scholars at U.S. colleges and universities, asked scholars to rate the nation’s 43 chief executives on 20 attributes ranging from legislative accomplishments to integrity and imagination.

Legislative accomplishments? If you call that monstrosity of a healthcare an accomplishment, but that was more of Pelosi’s doing and not Dear Leader’s.

While he ranked high on traits like imagination (6th), communication ability (7th) and intelligence (8th), Obama rated poorly ratings on background (32nd), which was composed of traits like family, education and experience.

How do you rate imagination? How do you rate intelligence? These are completely arbitrary. Also how do you rate a President based on his family? How does that contribute to a President’s greatness? I despise Dear Leader but it is completely retarded to rank him as a President based on family background.

Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush, was ranked at number 23 in 2002 — the last time Siena’s presidential expert poll was conducted — but has since dropped to number 39, qualifying him as one of the five worst presidents. Bush came in at number 42 — second to last — on issues such as handling the U.S. economy, foreign policy accomplishments and intelligence. (Warren G. Harding was rated the least intelligent president).

No surprise on GWB’s ranking, but again back to the ranking intelligence, how did they determine Warren G. Harding‘s intelligence? None of these people were even alive when he was President so obviously they pulled that one out of their ass.

Obama outranked Reagan in this poll. Again, anybody really surprised?

This would be more funny to me if I didn’t have to rely on these people for an education.

  • Rolling Stone Posts Full McChrystal Article

    Here.

The only thing I have to add to this is that I really think McChrystal is using this article as a way to get himself forced out of Afghanistan. The Rolling Stone reporter responsible for the article was just on CNN and said that pretty much all the controversial stuff was said by McChrystal and his aides within the first 24 hours of him following around McChrystal. McChrystal is not an idiot. He knew Rolling Stone was going to print what he said.

  • No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy (And How The Obama Administration Is Weakening the Marine Corps)

When the first battle of Fallujah in April 2004 reached its climax and it appeared that the Marines and soldiers assaulting the city were close to securing the insurgent stronghold, General John Abizaid travelled to Anbar to order General James Mattis, commander of the 1st Marine Division, to stop the assault. Disingenuous news reports from Arab media outlets which painted the assault as a massacre of innocent civilians had caused an outcry in the international community and as a result the Bush administration and its Iraqi allies waivered in its support for the operation. Abizaid met Mattis in his command post outside the city, where he had been leading the battle from the front for weeks. Over three dozen soldiers, sailors, and Marines had died in the assault. Mattis’s own command element had been attacked multiple times by this point and had suffered casualities. His uniform was soiled and dirty from the weeks of constant combat. When Abizaid (a four-star general in charge of CENTCOM) told Mattis (a two-star divisional commander) to stop the assault Mattis looked Abizaid in the eye and growled IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE VIENNA TAKE FUCKING VIENNA. Abizaid just nodded and Mattis stormed out of the room.

That story for me is the embodiment of General James Mattis, whom I think many Marines would agree is the greatest Marine general since Chesty Puller.
